61 | What do we learn from praying | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231162
In addition to all the good answers you've received, I can't help but think back to the Words of our Lord... Matt 6:6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 “Therefore do not be like them. FOR YOUR FATHER KNOWS THE THINGS YOU HAVE NEED OF BEFORE YOU ASK HIM. So many come up with the response: "If God knows what I need, why should I pray about it?" Yeah, I agree great immaturity but still to some extent, the question deserves an answer. I've always been taught that by praying to our God, it helps us to acutally focus our mind on our needs and distinquish those from our wants. Thus we see in so many instances, God does take care of our needs. Secondly if we're in constant prayer as Jesus modeled for us and Paul encourages us, then we'll establish a regular dialouge with our Father just like our earthly parents love to hear from us. Then we know to go to God's Word, at least daily and see the answers to our prayers for there truly is "nothing new under the sun," Ecc 1:8 All things are full of labor; Man cannot express it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, Nor the ear filled with hearing. 9 That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done, And there is nothing new under the sun. 10 Is there anything of which it may be said, “See, this is new”? It has already been in ancient times before us. 11 There is no remembrance of former things, Nor will there be any remembrance of things that are to come By those who will come after. Yes good answers all; keep ourselves humble and in service to our Lord as His vessels on this earth as described by Paul... 2 Cor 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. 8 We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— 10 always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 62 | Why is wisdom referred to as HER? | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231165
In addition to these good answers, I'm thinking a big reason for thinking of wisdom as feminine, especially for us men is the elusive quality of wisdom. I know she has eluded me all of my life except when I married my wife. Prov 2:1 My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, 2 So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; 3 Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, 4 If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; 5 Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God. 6 For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding; At least, it's been my experience that knowledge comes somewhat easy. One has to work a little harder to gain understanding, especailly some of the complexities of life, you know the conundrums. But most elusive of all is wisdom. Even Solomon had a little difficulty applying wisdom to his own life. So we pursue wisdom to the end of our days and count ourselves Blessed to die in the Lord with His Name on our lips. Believe me, I know. I've had my "brush with death" and it was just a bit premature. Makes one take a "pause for the cause," and slow down a bit to appreciate life. 63 | Balance: Faith and Works | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231168
Quoted for reference: On previous post Bill said, "We should look at our relationship with our Lord and Saviour as our working off a debt as He paid for our sins for our very souls. I think this is made so clear in the Lord's Parable of the debtor in prison, Matt 18. That's why I think it's important for us as christians to adopt a ministry of some kind if it's nothing more than cleaning the building on a regular basis." BradK said: Are you suggesting salvation entails us workig to repay this debt to our Lord? Are you suggesting we to do this in order to maintain salvation? Or, are you suggesting we do this in order to show we are saved (cf Eph. 2:10)? Response: I thought my previous post made this clear. Seems like I said we can never, EVER even begin to think we can gain anything by these "works of faith." We should do them as proof of our genuine faith. James makes it very clear: the conjunction "and" marries these two items for a true christian. Faith and works go together like all the other couples in the Bible. We see that we must "worship God in Spirit AND in Truth," John 4:24. We must love God first and foremost BUT we must also love our fellow man, 1 John 2:9-11. Does this mean our walk with God is like a balancing act? I think that might be an extreme way of putting but to some degree, God does want us to do our best. I do agree with the sentiment of your post; I do think we must always place our faith in God far above our works. It's just that we can't take this position as a license to get out of working for the Lord. BradK said: I hope you're not implying that we do this to merit (earn) any justification before God? Response: No, please don't misunderstand. See above. As a matter of fact, as you alluding to, any hint of such pride in such an attempt to earn might be just the thing that keeps us out of Heaven forever. Prov 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. 19 Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, Than to divide the spoil with the proud. 20 He who heeds the word wisely will find good, And whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he. I hope this is an adequate response; gotta go to school and get myself all edumacated. I'll check back with you later this evening. Thanks for the dialouge. Go with God in all His Ways, Bill |

64 | will all christians go to heaven | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231169
I'm thinking the most important Guidance in this area is from Peter in... 2 Pet 2:18 For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage. 20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. 21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.” Other examples from John in... 3 John 1:9 I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, does not receive us. 10 Therefore, if I come, I will call to mind his deeds which he does, prating against us with malicious words. And not content with that, he himself does not receive the brethren, and forbids those who wish to, putting them out of the church. 11 Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God. It's such a sad end for a christian to turn away from the Lord and go back to the world of darkness, and eventually Hell itself. Some christians get caught up in being to full of themselves and instead of being examples following Christ, they choose someone else and get themselves lost like that of Diotrephes above. 65 | No last names of people - why not? | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231179
Just thought I'd share as I just head this lecture just a few months ago and it made a lot of sense. In the growth of our world from the Biblical perspective of about six thousand years, we must remember large cities like you and I are used to did not exist. For a very long time, practically no one lived in cities; almost everyone lived on a farm where almost every residence and every person was self-sufficient so there wasn't a lot of visiting, just a lot of work to get by. Then the age of tools came along and specialists were needed to maintain them, refine them and make them better. Now we're talking about cities maybe consisting of a couple hundred people. It was not practical to have more than maybe two blacksmiths or more than two stores with special wares to support such a small number of people. The total number of farmers in the surrounding areas couldn't support a bunch of toolmakers so the other sons of the blacksmith would move on to another town. Now as technology grew and more and more moved to town, it would grow in diversity, goods and services, ie banks and specialty shops, etc. In the small towns the two blacksmiths would be known as Mike and Joe. The shopowners Jeff and John. They were all known by the first name and then "of Town X." This worked for quite a while. But when there's so many of a given profession, it becomes a little more difficult to keep up with them, then another name becomes practical. Now when did this become the norm? Who knows but it seems to have taken a long while. Another factor keeping the growth slow. Very few could afford a horse with which to go to town. Fewer still could afford enough to own their own tools and quite possibly, the land owner might go out and hire his own blacksmith for tool maintenance. The point is the growth of towns and the use of multiple names was a very slow process. There's probably many other unknown factors keeping this growth slow, ie fear of towns or dislike by the landowners, lust for maintaining power. Hope this helps; Go with God in all His Ways, Bill |

66 | When is forgiveness not necessary? | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231182
In support of Doc's answer, God is very clear on this matter. IF we hope to get forgiveness for our sins, we MUST be just as willing to forgive others. Jesus relayed this kind of sentiment in several places like His Model Prayer... Lk 11:4 And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.” His Parable of the debtor in prison... Matt 18:21 Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. 23 Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 And when he had begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, ‘Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ 27 Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt. 28 “But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’ 29 So his fellow servant fell down at his feet[d] and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ 30 And he would not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt. 31 So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done. 32 Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. 33 Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’ 34 And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. 35 “So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.” Yes, this was a completely new teaching from that of the Law of Moses, with "eye for an eye and tooth for tooth." We are even expected to forgive our enemies. Yeah, I agree tough to do, especailly in our modern world. So in answer to your question, I'm afraid if you truly want to go to Heaven, it's very clear as to what we all must do. Hope this helps; Go with God in all His Ways, Bill |

No one has offended me. I just don't understand this obsession about my background. I can't get anyone to explain why my posts to the Forum are being deleted. I have been very diligent to make certain they're all Biblically based, tactful and gracious in demeanor. I've already tried contacting the Lockman Foundation directly and they won't reply to my message. Do you know who has all the power to whom I can discuss all this and plead my case? I'd like to know what is actually wrong with my posts so I can learn and avoid making those same mistakes. I have noticed there are many individuals on the Forum who don't reveal much information about themselves in their User Profile so I'm not the only one. Again I really, REALLY don't understand this obsession about MY background. It seems to be a form of passive-agressive persecution. But I can take it and count myself worth like the Apostles if that is my role in this ministry. I saw the recent posts about the acceptance of denominations "as long as they're based on Bible" and of course mine are, at least as far as I can make them. Can you please assist me in this area? I'm willing to continue this conversation in private, with E-Mails if that's what you'd prefer. Please let me know. I really appreciate your effort to reach out. I sincerely hope you're trying to help me. Go with God in all His Ways. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Bill |

74 | What does the bible say what happens to | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231207
Brad's Post is good solid Guidance but I like to remember Jesus' story in... John 8:2 Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them. 3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, 4 they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?” 6 This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear. 7 So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” 8 And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” 11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” Now of course adultrey is sin and worthy of condemnation but don't you see, we're ALL in that same trap. We've ALL sinned and we continue to sin every day of our lives and none of us can measure up to God's Perfect Standard set by His Son. We must rely on His Grace and Mercy and share the Good News with our friends and neighbors. We as human creatures see the many different sins in this world at different levels of "dastardly deeds" with some worse than others and of course that's normal. But we need to grow and mature and see things as God sees them and become repugnent to the sins in our own lives. God sees ALL sins as being alike; they all keep us separated from Him. James 4:7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. Instead of dwelling on the sins of each other, let's dwell on the good stuff we have Christ Jesus like Paul encourages us in... Phil4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. Hope this helps; Go with God in all His Ways, Bill |

In addition to Steve's good answer, I can think of a couple more verses, such as... Acts 5:40 And they agreed with him, and when they had called for the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name. 42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ. James 5:13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Rom 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. 1 Cor 13:4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 2 Cor 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ. 6 Now if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. 7 And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation. There are others but the bottom line is our suffering on this earth is but a "blink of the eye" compared to our Destination, our Home in Heaven. We must keep our focus on our Lord as Peter discovered while walking on water... Matt 14:28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” 29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” Also James assures us of the brevity of our sojourn here on earth in... James 4:14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. So just keep on keeping on and God will Bless you; Go with God in all His Ways. Bill |

76 | Does God Need us like we need Him? | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231233
I think your friend misunderstands the whole concept of God and His Whole World. I can only suggest her re-reading of His Majestic Handiwork, culminating in the Creation of Mankind, including both men and women, Genesis 1 and 2. I'm thinking all this stuff about Evolution and Theistic Evolution is whittling away at the Faith of many of our fellow christians. There are many, many websites I might suggest to you. Just insert key words like Evidences of Christianity and Creationism into your Search Engine and you'll find them. Brouse around and find several articles you like, print them for her. With most of these websites, you can even submit your inquiries and get specific answers and referrals to articles addressing your concerns. On the subject of Authority, I would start out by referring your friend to the last section of Romans, Chapter 1. There Paul does a masterful job of warning the people in Rome of what God would do as a result of their wickedness and reminds them of just Who God is and His Authority. It sounds like Mr. Haggin doesn't have a clue as to what he's talking about. Another person had a serious problem with the Authority of God. His name was Pharaoh and we all know how he turned out, starting at Exodus 5. We'll be praying for both you and your friend. Go with God in all His Ways. Bill |

77 | What is the only unpardonable sin? | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231243
This has been a rather difficult subject for all Bible students for many centuries. We have the plain and clear Words from Jesus Himself... Matt 12:31 “Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. No question there; then we have more from His Official Representatives, one of whom was Paul in... Col 3:8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, BLASPHEMY, filthy language out of your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, 11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. So it's clear a person CANNOT get forgiveness for Blasphemy against the HS but a person CAN get forgiveness for blasphemy against anything else. Repentance is the key here. Remember Paul is addressing his words to the christians at Colosse so they have turned their back on their past life of sin and became christians. Christians can always turn their back on their Lord as Peter depicted in 2 Peter 2:22. Then such a person can always come back to Lord, repenting of their sin and be included back into God's family as shown in 1 and 2 Corinthians with the man carrying on an affair with his father's wife. The anti-Christ was just another expression of the apostacy or falling away. There's always a temptation for most all of us christians to go back to our previous "man of sin." It's a tug of war as depicted in Romans 7. God's Grace and Mercy is ALWAYS available to us as His children as He wants all mankind to come home to him. Hope this helps; Go with God in all His Ways, Bill |

Another passage showing this concept is found in... Matt 25:14 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. 15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. 16 Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. 17 And likewise he who had received two gained two more also. 18 But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord’s money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20 “So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’ 21 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ 22 He also who had received two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.’ 23 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ 24 “Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’ 26 “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. 27 So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. 28 Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. 29 ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ Yes indeed, on that fateful Judgment Day, we'll all have to account for every word, every deed, every thought we held in our mind. And be judged by God's Perfect Sense of Judgement. We're all doomed unless we have to Blood of Christ covering our sins. Hope this helps; Go with God in all His Ways, Bill |

In addition to Azure's good answer, I thought I'd add one more. There's a powerful story in 1 Kings 13. It's not very well known, I guess because there's no names involved but suffice it to say, even a Prophet of God is NOT given free license to stray from His Word without consequences. (The only name mentioned is King Jeroboam.) Read the whole chapter and tell us what you think. It can prove to be a very interesting discussion. Hope this helps; Go with God in all His Ways, Bill |
