121 | effect Christ's return on us | NT general | Bill Richardson | 230873
The clearest answer of which I can think is from Jesus Himself in... Matt 25:31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ 41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’ 44 “Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Go with God in all things, Bill |

122 | Plan for people who will never be saved? | NT general | Bill Richardson | 230888
This is a very controversial subject. So there seems to be a contradiction among some scriptures as follows: John 3:16-17, Acts 17:30 and the ominous warning in Matt 7:13-14. "Yes, God so loved the world..." and He wants ALL of us to repent. He even warns us of the consequences of our choices, Heaven or Hell. So what are we to conclude from all this? He Created us with His very own Image, our soul and conscience with which we'll carry forever into eternity. AND God gives us all the ability to choose which path we want to follow; we call it our "Free Will." 2 Cor 8:3 For I bear witness that according to their ability, yes, and beyond their ability, they were freely willing, 4 imploring us with much urgency that we would receive the gift and the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. We need to remember our Lord and Creator looks at us as His Creation, in the same way an earthly parent looks at his child, Matt 18:2-5. We all know and realize children can grow up and become one of two things. They can grow up to be a contributing member of society. OR they can grow up to be a deviant to some degree, maybe even land in prison or get themselves executed. Yes imagine those greiving parents. So our God does want us ALL to come home to Him, to the Heavenly Mansion He's got waiting for us but it's up us to accept that Gift and to obey His Commands. Samuel revealed this very basic, timeless Truth to King Saul long ago in... 1 Sam 15:22 So Samuel said: “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. We all know the wonderful feeling of a parent when his child obeys and does indeed follow the parent's wishes for his life. AND we've heard about the results and empathize with a greiving parent when their child becomes an awful criminal and ends up killing someone or many. Yes, so very, VERY sad. But let's all think about this for a moment. Do we allow such a hardened criminal to run free among us, continuing his pillage of society and run amok, killing and robbing or whatever else he chooses? I think we all know the answer to that. Now let's put ourselves in the place of our God. You've probably seen the E-Mail that's making the rounds. The world has got some horrible disease and it's running rampant, killing thousands, maybe millions. The medical community discovers our one and only son has the perfect cure running in his viens. Yes, his blood can save the whole world but those insane doctors need ALL of our son's blood to do it. Then we run into one individual who has the disease and refuses to take the cure. He even takes the vial and stomps on it in disgust, depriving someone else of that life-saving serum. You tell me, do we feel any pity for such an individual? Yes, I agree with you; a rather extreme, very extreme story. And our reaction is naturally human whereas our God is the all-powerful Almighty with all those omni-traits. So is it too much to believe that He really will send the disobedient and selfish people to Hell? I have to say I believe what He says. So should we become christians out of fear? Some do but I'm thinking we all find out it's great to be a child of God as you can still have fun with fellow christians. I know; I have fun every day. I cut up and act like a clown all the time; just ask my wife and kids, my grandkids. Well that's about all I can think to say. Yeah, maybe even a bit too much. Appreciate your patience in reading this far. And as always, Go with God in everything, Bill |

What I'm trying to figure out is why there is such a big need for such a question. That sudden question from you coupled with the deletion of my previous post on this thread of conversation seemed terribly suggestive. Do you have any idea as why or who deleted my post? If so, I'd like to know the reasons as to why and how to avoid so much waste of my time and effort in the future. Please advise. Thanks in advance. Go with God in all things. Bill |

129 | what are similarites of Matt and Mark 1 | NT general | Bill Richardson | 231270
There are quite a few similarities among all 3 of the Gospels, Matthew, Mark and Luke. This is known as the Synoptic Gospels because of their great similarity. The Gospel of John is quite different in style and stage of writing, much later than the first three. Anyway you can see all this in much greater detail at the Wikipedia website. Just insert Synoptic Gospels into their Search Engine which BTW is a great tool for doing homework or Bible School classwork. You can also find a "Harmony of the Gospels" at www.blueletterbible.org/study/harmony/index.cfm Hope this helps; Go with God in all His Ways, Bill |

130 | what was mark's occupation? | NT general | Bill Richardson | 231271
Also from www.joyofliving.org/html/MARK1BND01ff.pdf The Author of the Gospel of Mark We do know that this gospel was written by a young man named John Mark, who figures prominently in the New Testament. His mother was named Mary, and she was a wealthy woman who owned a large house in Jerusalem. In Acts 12:12, we see that a large group of the early disciples gathered in Mary’s house to pray for Peter’s release from prison. So apparently Mark might not have had a need for a job in the traditional sense, at least as far as we can know. Hope this helps; Go with God in all His Ways, Bill |

131 | Genesis 4:24 Lamech assumption? | Genesis | Bill Richardson | 230628
It's a little easier to understand this assumption when we check the Genesis record and see that in all liklihood, Cain was still alive as was Adam and Eve and most of their whole clan. So the stories from these famous people was still fresh on their minds in spite of their ages of several hundred years each. (They probably shared these kinds of stories around the campfire for many generations. I like to think the Garden of Eden left a very vivid impression on Adam and Eve. And holding one-on-one conversations with God Almighty was totally awesome.) Cain's reputation was probably widely disseminated then as it is now. Further, since God hadn't given out much Guidance it's not difficult to understand how a person like Lamech might have made such a conclusion. Remember all mankind likes to think we're great thinkers and problem solvers. Our biggest problem: we like to do ALL this thinking and solving without God's Input. Big mistake. He created us and knows what makes us tick far better than the wisest amoung us. But most are like your's truly and graduate from the University of Hard Knocks and then go back for our Masters and PhD. Yeah, after we get enough bumps and bruises, by NOT following His Perfect Maintenance Manual, His Word, we finally go to Him for Advice. Well, enough of my stuff. Go with God in all things, my friend. Bill |

132 | When did the hebrew become jew and why | Gen 11:16 | Bill Richardson | 230729
MJH, I agree with your answer for the most part but I thought I might add a little something. God did provide for an alternate way for a Gentile to become part of God's Jewish family although most Jews didn't seem to appreciate the idea. The two most prominent were 1) Rahab the harlot who hid the spies for the conquering nation as they spied out Jericho, Joshua 2 and 2) Ruth who became a wife to Boaz and literally becomes part of the lineage to Christ Himself. The Book of Ruth is really one of the most powerful love stories in the Bible. So it was quite possible for a Gentile to become a Jew. The Israelite nation never did appreciate God's sentiment in this matter as indicated in... Is 66:18 “For I know their works and their thoughts. It shall be that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and see My glory. 19 I will set a sign among them; and those among them who escape I will send to the nations: to Tarshish and Pul and Lud, who draw the bow, and Tubal and Javan, to the coastlands afar off who have not heard My fame nor seen My glory. AND THEY SHALL DECLARE MY GLORY AMOUNG THE GENTILES. 20 Then they shall bring all your brethren for an offering to the LORD out of all nations, on horses and in chariots and in litters, on mules and on camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem,” says the LORD. (My emphasis with all caps above.) Go with God in all things, my friend. Bill |

133 | When did the hebrew become jew and why | Gen 11:16 | Bill Richardson | 230767
I think our Lord summed it up rather succinctly in... Matt 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, 9 AND DO NOT THINK TO SAY TO YOURSELVES, ‘WE HAVE ABRAHAM AS OUR FATHER.’ FOR I SAY TO YOU THAT GOD IS ABLE RAISE UP CHILDREN FROM THESE STONES. 10 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” (Emphais with all caps is mine.) One of man's oldest and most difficult sins to discard is that of the "pride of life," especially as it relates to racial prejudice. It started with Cain and will dominate this planet until its very last day in the universe. It's always been facinating to me how the elite of old would look at an American Native or an African black man with their red flowing blood and then declare somehow they were superior. Same ole problem between the Jews and Samaritans or the Gentiles. God installed His Image in all of us; Paul makes this so clear in... Col 3:9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, 11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. God's Way truly is the best way for all of us. Bill |

134 | THE MAN THAT INITIATED ABRAHAM | Gen 12:1 | Bill Richardson | 231148
First of all, welcome to the Bible Forum. I don't think there was any man that initiated or inspired Abraham (Abram). Please advise as to how you arrived at this conclusion, preferbably with Scripture in support. If no Scripture, please describe the origin of this radical idea. 135 | Who was Isaacs wife | Gen 24:14 | Bill Richardson | 231152
First of all, welcome to the Bible Forum. This is one of the most beautiful and powerful stories of God's Providence in the Bible, in my humble opinion. But you really should read the whole story yourself in this chapter and you'll appreciate it as all of us kids in Sunday School have grown to do so. God Bless you as you study His Word, Bill |

136 | Jacob's way or God's way?? | Gen 32:1 | Bill Richardson | 230619
Naturally I must asssume you're talking about the most famous wrestling match of all time. As you suggest Jacob was used to getting his way in the world and God needed to "wrestle" that streak of stubborness out of him and accept His Way instead. Notice Laban's deception was also a "curve ball" Jacob didn't anticipate. But in the end, Jacob is fearful of his brother but surprise, "No need." Esau was willing to forgive and re-establish his relationship with his "long lost" brother. You show a lot of insight in your study of God's Word. I think the most powerful lesson we can learn is from Joseph and how he saw and appreciated God's Guidance in his life. Gen 50:17 ‘Thus you shall say to Joseph: “I beg you, please forgive the trespass of your brothers and their sin; for they did evil to you.”’ Now, please, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of your father.” And Joseph wept when they spoke to him. 18 Then his brothers also went and fell down before his face, and they said, “Behold, we are your servants.” 19 Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? 20 But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. It's sometimes VERY tough for us to grow and mature to the point that we see God's "Nos" and "Waits" for the valuable answers they are in our lives. Go with God in all things, Bill |

137 | Exo 29-30 bread w/o yeast? | Ex 13:9 | Bill Richardson | 231167
Welcome to the Bible Forum. You must be new to Jewish History. Generally, unleavened bread was a custom started long ago indicating devotion to God. I looked and the very first mention of this kind of bread is in Gen 19 with Lot's meal with angels in Sodom before its destruction. So it seems this custom could have possibly been done to simply rush the meal as it takes a little while for leavened bread to rise. But the most memorable reason for most is from... Ex 13:3 And Moses said to the people: “Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the Lord brought you out of this place. No leavened bread shall be eaten. 4 On this day you are going out, in the month Abib. 5 And it shall be, when the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, which He swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep this service in this month. 6 Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the Lord. 7 Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days. And no leavened bread shall be seen among you, nor shall leaven be seen among you in all your quarters. 8 And you shall tell your son in that day, saying, ‘This is done because of what the Lord did for me when I came up from Egypt.’ 9 It shall be as a sign to you on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that the Lord’s law may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand the Lord has brought you out of Egypt. 10 You shall therefore keep this ordinance in its season from year to year. And of course it sets the precedent for us as christians when we observe and partake of the Communion or the Lord's Supper as described in... Matt 26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” Now of course, the Lord and His disciples started this meal as their traditional Passover Meal and a person could ask why didn't Jesus do something different. But I think it's was a good thing that He was following the Pattern from His Father's preference for unleavened bread. It's something that gives us human beings an additional reason to pause and think about what we observing in the Lord's Supper, His being the Ultimate Sacrifice. Remember we're not doing this for us or any other reason as thought by man. We're following God's Commands because He's God and that's the Pattern He set for us. Hope this helps; Go with God in all His Ways, Bill |

138 | Saved by Grace or Acts? | Lev 6:2 | Bill Richardson | 230610
Then there's also a little more on this topic from James, the "Straw Epistle" as descriped in the past. James makes it very clear by using the conjuction "and." James 2:19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? Notice even the demons believe in the existance of Jesus Christ but they choose NOT to obey. We MUST follow the Commands of Christ; in obedience, we must adopt the lifestyle of a genuine christian with deeds of kindness and devotion for our Lord's sake. This is the way people of the world will see Christ in our lives by being that "light in the world of darkness" or the "salt of the earth," influencing the world for good and motivating them to inquire as to why we choose to live such a life. Notice ancient Samuel revealed this basic truth to King Saul and he too chose NOT to obey. 1 Sam 15:22 So Samuel said: “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. So yes indeed we must put in faith in God to save us AND we must obey Him in acting and behaving as a true, genuine child of God. BUT we must never think we can earn our way to Heaven. No this attitude is also put down rather harshly in... Rom 2:5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 who “will render to each one according to his deeds”: 7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; 8 but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath, 9 tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; 10 but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 11 For there is no partiality with God. 2 Cor 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. 1 Pet 1:17 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; Now on the other question about repentance as one of the steps in getting salvation. Throughout the Bible the concept of repentance has always included the attempt of restoration. Thus a theif must return the stolen goods to their rightful owners or do his best to do so. A murderer should feel obligated to ask forgiveness from the family and attempt to restore the manpower as represented by his victim to that family, again as best he/she can within his/her ability. Why is this necessary? God's basic Principle of "Reaping what we've sown in life." Gal 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. Are we forgiven by God? Sure BUT that doesn't mean He releases us from this basic principle. How long after being saved must this repentance or restoration process last? I really can't say for certain but I wouldn't want to approach God on Judgment Day and come up short when He asks that question. Ex 22:1 “If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and slaughters it or sells it, he shall restore five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep. 2 If the thief is found breaking in, and he is struck so that he dies, there shall be no guilt for his bloodshed. 3 If the sun has risen on him, there shall be guilt for his bloodshed. He should make full restitution; if he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft. 4 If the theft is certainly found alive in his hand, whether it is an ox or donkey or sheep, he shall restore double. 5 “If a man causes a field or vineyard to be grazed, and lets loose his animal, and it feeds in another man’s field, he shall make restitution from the best of his own field and the best of his own vineyard. Lev 24:18 Whoever kills an animal shall make it good, animal for animal. Go with God, my friend, Bill |

139 | Saved by Grace or Acts? | Lev 6:2 | Bill Richardson | 230787
I just wanted to let you know that my statement about restitution is NOT based on just my opinion as you can below. REPENTANCE, CONFESSION AND RESTITUTION from h**p://www.unification.net/ws/theme127.htm Repentance is the first step on the road to recovery of a relationship with God or realization of the original nature. Sins, attachments, and mistaken views must be acknowledged as such; then it is possible to turn away from the old life and set out on the new path of faith. Since accumulated sins and delusions form a barrier obscuring the presence of God or the true self, repentance is a condition for God to forgive the sin and eradicate illusion, that the divine Presence may once again grace the penitent's life. Repentance is sometimes misunderstood as being fulfilled by words of contrition uttered in prayer. Words of contrition are indeed significant when they reflect a fresh inner realization that a particular course of action was wrong, and when they are accompanied by a sincere vow not to repeat the sin. But that is only the first stage of repentance. The second stage, one far more efficacious, is to confess the sin to others, particularly a confession to the person who had been wronged. The humiliation and shame which accompanies confessing one's sin to another makes such repentance extremely serious, and laying one's sins out in the open is a powerful cathartic. The third stage of repentance is to make some substantial compensation for the past misdeed. This means to do penance or to make restitution to the person who had been wronged, or, if that is not possible, to someone else representing that person. Finally, repentance should result in an actual change of direction in the life of the penitent, as he endeavors to perform good deeds and eschew his former transgressions. Matt 3:2 Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Ps 51:17 The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. 2 Chron 7:14 If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Lk 18:10-14 Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, "God, I thank thee that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get." But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, "God, be merciful to me a sinner!" I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for every one who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted. Ez 33:14-16 Again, though I say to the wicked, "You shall surely die," yet if he turns from his sin and does what is lawful and right, if the wicked restores the pledge, gives back what he has taken by robbery, and walks in the statutes of life, committing no iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die. None of the sins that he has committed shall be remembered against him; he has done what is lawful and right, he shall surely live. I should emphasize as I mentioned in my previous post, this concept of restitution as being a part of repentance is one of attitude and action. Yes, it should be started as soon as possible BUT it is true that restituion cannot possibly be completed in its entirety before salvation from God. I'm convinced it should be started and continued thru one's life as necessary, especially in the case where complete restitution is impossible, ie taking a life. Again it's our attitude and intent God wants to see in our new way of life, our transformed lifestyle. Go with God and study His Word completely and He'll Bless you. Bill |

140 | Saved by Grace or Acts? | Lev 6:2 | Bill Richardson | 230798
I was just responding to Brent's post. I'm not of the Unification faith. I guess you noticed I left out all the quotes from all those other non-Christian faiths out since this Forum is dedicated to the Bible. I do think it's interesting that all those other faiths from around the world coincide and agree with the basic sentiment of what I was trying to say. I guess one would have to say I'm a practical kind of guy. 1 Cor 9:19 For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; 20 and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; 21 to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; 22 to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I HAVE BECOME ALL THINGS TO ALL MEN, THAT I MIGHT BY ALL MEANS SAVE SOME. 23 Now this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I may be partaker of it with you. Of course the statement in all caps above is the ideal for me as well as all of us. But what do you think of the whole matter? Go with God in all things, Bill |
