I can think of a couple more Matt 5:43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? 48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect. and Rom 12:9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. 10 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; 11 not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; 13 distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion. 17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. It's a little bit helpful to remember the Roman Army during this time period were generally horrible to those nations whom they conquered. They could REQUIRE their Jewish subjects to carry their backpack weighing as much as a 100 pounds or more for about a mile. And the Lord encourages His audience to carry it for that "second mile," in the verses in the same chapter. Again the army soldiers were famous for beating up on innocent citizens and stealing their money. But the Lord wanted them to "turn the other cheek." So in stark contrast with the OT, Jesus was setting a whole new and much higher Standard for this Era of Christianity. Even for those in our world whom we might think really don't deserve Mercy and Compassion, that's exactly what our Lord wants us to do and do it in His Name. Yeah, I know, very tough to do. Someone has deleted my post with which I input quite a bit of information and Guidance based on the scripture above. (I even reflected my own personal battle with this challenging topic.) But I notice that no one is posting any replacement message to this individual in his plight. Are you all NOT going to do the right thing? Are you all NOT going to offer some sound advice in replacement of my attempt? He's waiting as am I but of course his need is far greater than mine. I'm kinda curious as yo how y'all are going to interpret this scripture and apply the basic to this topic. Anxiously awaiting your response(s); Go with God in all His Ways. Bill |

168 | why you shouldn't go to casinos | Rom 14:23 | Bill Richardson | 231204
I'm thinking the big issue with this area is whether or not gambling or going to casinos gets in between you and your God as a christian. My wife and I go a casino occasionally and I just consider whatever small amount of money I win or lose in such a place to be entertainment. I have witnessed some of my friends who would go and drop their entire paycheck which would mean their family went without food and left some bills unpaid. So the scripture below comes to mind... 1 Tim 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. Mark's citation of the verse above at the top of this post is right on target. That basic principle must be applied to everything we do as christians. Another verse that applies... Col 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. I realize these verses seem to cover a lot of ground in a wide specturm of application. But you see, that's what our Lord Wants. He Wants our whole hearts, our whole being to be dedicated to him. He said it best in... Mark 12:30 And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. So it all boils down, to who you're going to choose: Going to casinos or your Lord and Saviour. Is it really that serious? IF this casino is in between you and your God, it's just another form of idol and you know how He Feels about that. We'll be praying for you and hoping for the best. Hope this helps; Go with God in all His Ways, Bill |

169 | Is drinking and smoking pot allowed | Rom 14:23 | Bill Richardson | 231205
This thread of discussions has two main points as I understand it. 1) The first one is that all of us want to go to Heaven and therefore we should avoid those activities that are clearly considered sins. In those situations that are questionable, it's always better to go with one's conscience and NOT do anything IF you have doubts about it. After all we do want to assure ourselves of going to Heaven, right? True enough it's drunkeness that's condemned in the Bible and not drinking. BUT if your family finds out that you're now a drinker, they will most likely try to get you to drink more and more and the alcohol will control you instead of your God. Just some advice; I've seen what one drink can do to an individual and his family. That's why I decided some years ago to be a "tee-totaler." No, it's not required, it's a judgement call everyone has to make in their lives as they mature in their walk with God. 2) Now on the matter of marriage, I have to say it's always best to come to the Lord and get His Blessing on our marriage. The best way to do that is after confirming both spouses to be are going to be an asset to the other in getting both to Heaven. If you're both looking up to God for His Guidance in "ALL things pertaining to Godliness," 2 Pet 1:3-4, then you'll have less time for arguing and what not. So Justme makes a good point. Such a couple should get to know one another and confirm that their spouse truly is a person dedicated to God and foremost and to the spouse second. (A true man of God should be a real friend, interested in confirming this before marriying such a couple.) Then all the other priorities will fall into place. It's difficult to come up with scripture in direct support other than those above. But I'm convinced this advice is quite sound as I'm enjoying my first and only marriage after 30 plus years. Maybe this passage... 2 Cor 6:14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? 15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. We've had our stuggles as we're both head-strong and stubborn but I'm convinced she's the perfect one sent to me by God Himself as she does assist in keeping on the "straight and narrow." I can only wish God's Richest Blessings in your life and I'd recommend if you're going to drink, do it in moderation WITH your spouse and NOT your buddies. Why? That's part of how christians behave. After all, we are God's people as cited by Peter in... 1 Pet 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; Believe me, people of the world are watching us, you and me and all other christians to see if we're the real thing "set-apart" for our God. Hope this helps; Go with God in all His Ways, Bill |

172 | where does it say in the bible, we will | 1 Corinthians | Bill Richardson | 230792
1 Cor 13:8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. NOW I KNOW IN PART, BUT THEN I SHALL KNOW JUST AS I ALSO AM KNOWN. 13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. Go with God in all things, dear friend. 173 | Talked about on Francis and Friends SBN | 1 Corinthians | Bill Richardson | 230799
I'm thinking there's quite a bit of controversy on this subject. Some believe that we'll be in Heaven with our physical bodies based on Jesus' acension into Heaven with His Body. Some believe we'll just have spiritual beings since the whole world will be "burned up" and the "elements melted" according to Peter and no air to breathe. I do think in Heaven we won't know about or remember our family members IF they didn't make it and went to Hell instead based on the fact there will be "no tears in Heaven." Will we actually recongize each other, ie spouses who both make it to Heaven? I just don't know. Thus the controversy and the need for an open mind. Anyone else want to share their thoughts? 174 | John 9:6 why clay and spit on blind man? | 1 Cor 3:19 | Bill Richardson | 230626
The only answer I can think to give is the same reason as He gave us concerning Doubting Thomas. With mankind, "Seeing is believing." We all want to see BUT if we were to see everything about God's World, what would be left for faith. Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. There are so many things in the Bible such as why did Jesus write on the ground upon presentation of the aduterous woman, John 8? Of these kind of questions, I can only reply with... 1 Cor 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”; Go with God in all things, Bill |

175 | division? | 1 Cor 14:1 | Bill Richardson | 230612
1 Cor 14:34 Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. 35 And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church. Yes I can see that in this modern world of liberal thinking that God's Position on this subject is rather difficult to accept. But remember, we men MUST also follow the sacred Patterns for us set by God so we all have a role to fulfill as Decreed by God, including kids. BUT I must disagree about this dividing the church into groups in Bible School. We enjoy both concepts in our congregation. On Sunday morning, we have two co-ed classes: 1) a class on the Minor Prophets taught by one of our elders and 2) a class on the Christian family taught by our minister. On Wed night, our ladies get together for an exclusive class, discussing the articles in "The Christian Woman" magazine. Thus they are complying with God's Commands to teach younger women and train them up "in the Lord." Us guys meet in a class with me as the discussion leader. Right now we discussing the Book of Hebrews. I acknowledge that it is true, throughout our nation and the family of Christ that some congregations have their own distinct personality and do this dividing business as you suggest a little more harshly than it should be done. But that's just one of the quirks of being where you're at. I grew up in a VERY conservative congregation and have since seen and experienced a great many different parts of the nation and the world, worshiping and working with dozens of congregations. They all have very distinct personalities, spanning the whole spectrum of conservative to liberal. So it's always important to choose a congregation that closely resembles your own personality, for your own spiritual growth as well as your spouse and children. I can't think of a specific scripture to support that last statement but I can offer a famous quote: "Grow where you're planted." I do know for a fact that our God does want us to grow and we MUST do so in accordance with His Word. Jn 15:1 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. Heb 5:12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. 14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Go with God, Bill PS: I confirmed just now with my wife about this exclusive class of women. They prefer it this way; they talk about stuff they would never feel comfortable discussing with men present. God's Way is always the best way. In this manner we men talk about men stuff, especially to our young men, including how they must respect the women in their lives and the ladies do their thing. |

176 | division? | 1 Cor 14:1 | Bill Richardson | 230641
I think it's worthwhile to note that in both cases, the OT and NT were progressive as compared with their contemporaries in the world at that time. God has always been far more decent to women than most men of the world are inclined to be. It also needs to be said that all of us, men and women MUST follow our roles as provided by God. This Guidance from God does place men over women, just as He placed His Son over the church, His bride. In no way does this imply a position of one superior or inferior to the other. It's simply the Order of God's World, much like we put a horse in front of the cart or a car in front of the trailer. But I'll be first to admit the very real truth to the old axiom: "Behind every good man stands a good (and sometimes better) woman." God's Way is ALWAYS the best way. Go with God in all things. 177 | What is the gospel? | 1 Cor 15:1 | Bill Richardson | 230608
To most Bible students, the Gospel simply means the Good News from our God, the Creator that He sent His Son to die for ALL mankind, from Adam and Eve to the last person born before the Return of His Son to end the world and begin Judgement Day. Of course, we must comply with His Son's Last Will and Testament to receive this Gift of Salvation, as depicted in Hebrews 9. Also applicable: Jn 14:19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. 20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” 22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me. 178 | biblical role of father with children | 2 Cor 6:4 | Bill Richardson | 230614
Sadly there's not a whole lot in God's Word to deal with your specific situation with the fact you and the father were never married. I'm not saying you're completely on your own without any guidance from God but it's VERY difficult to provide counseling especially over the internet without getting both sides of the story. I can only suggest you get counseling from some professional christian counselor and hopefully get the father in the room with you. It does seem rather unfair that he and his wife are getting the foodstamps if indeed you have primary custody of the kids. My son is facing the very same problem with his ex-wife. It's a very harsh and Godless world of darkness and sinful people in which we live. I'll be praying for you and your kids as I'm praying for my own grandkids. Go with God in all things. Bill |

179 | biblical role of father with children | 2 Cor 6:4 | Bill Richardson | 230624
My heart goes out to all good, Godly single parents. "There but by the Grace of God, go I." I don't know what my life would have been without my wife but it definitely would not have been good. My only caution to you about "giving up" to this man is this. If he doesn't give you the respect you've clearly earned in rearing these boys after all this time, I doubt he's going to do a good job of teaching them and providing a good example to them in this regard. I would suggest you stay involved in their lives and try to give them balance as it already sounds like their step mother is a little too much on his side. Still praying for you and may God bless your sons. Bill |
