181 | bodies | Phil 3:21 | Bill Richardson | 231004
The last verse of this passage seems to be close to that for which you're looking. Thus it also seems clear this takes place after we reach Heaven. Phil 3:17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. 18 For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things. 20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself. 182 | Heaven: Physical or Spiritual Body | Phil 3:21 | Bill Richardson | 231105
I recently went to a Bible Seminar in which we discussed this topic, the kind of body with which we'll go to Heaven. A large group of these folks believe that we'll go with a physical body whereas during all my past life as a christian, I've been taught we'll simply have spiritual bodies. I always thought this verse was pretty clear but then those closest to me in this group remind me of Jesus' Ascension into Heaven with emphasis on the last words of the "men in white apparel"... Acts 1:9 Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, 11 who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” My friend also reminds me with Jesus' special body, He was able to walk through walls and escape from crowds of people with ease. So His physical body was very different from ours. But I'm still inclined to believe as I've been trained all my life. To me personally, being transformed from one physical body to another one in Heaven just doesn't sound nearly as Glorious and Majestic as the Words I read about Heaven, in Revelation and elsewhere. Back at this Seminar, I brought up the Words from Peter below... 2 Pet 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. I asked how is this physical body in Heaven going to breathe; what substance will go thru our veins to keep us alive. The Seminar leader suggested that the Power of God would be breathed and go thru our veins. Again this just doesn't do it for me. I've always been a big SF fan, esepcially Star Trek; no, I'm not a "trekkie." But I did like the episode where the star ship travelers run into a being that was just a light of some sort and moved thru walls as easily as you and I move thru air. Then there's Q and his host of beings, so there's a whole genre of thinking along these lines. Anyway, I checked with some friends back here at home upon my return and they're in agreement with me. What do you folks think on this matter? Which set of scriptures seems to make more sense? Yeah, tough call, I know. Looking forward to some good discussion. Go with God in all things, Bill PS: I realize this topic has been discussed quite a bit but this Seminar was an "eye opening" experience for me. Kinda radical at least to me. I'd appreciate a few words for you all. |

183 | What is meant by the immanence of God? | Colossians | Bill Richardson | 230769
I can only assume that you're referring the last phrase below. Col 1:18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. Hopefully, this passage is self-explanitary. If not you need to read the whole chapter and you'll get it. Go with God in all things, Bill |

184 | is jesus god? | Col 1:18 | Bill Richardson | 231017
In addition to your scriptures as cited, I can only think to add these in an attempt to complete the picture: Jn 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. 32 And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. 33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.” Jn 17:20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. All of this leads us to the conclusion that there really is a concept known as the Trinity. No, the word itself is not in the Bible but the picture certainly is. All Three of the Godhead, God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit are all in Perfect Unity. BUT they're also three distinct Beings as shown in... Lk 3:22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” No we can't understand this Perfect Oneness yet in three distinct Beings; we just have to accept it. So in answer to your question, yes indeed, Jesus most certainly was then, still is and always will be God. Go with God in all things, Bill |

185 | is jesus god? | Col 1:18 | Bill Richardson | 231020
I can understand your difficulty; there are many people that believe as you do. But the ultimate conclusion, at least in my mind must agree with the whole Bible, as Paul preached in... Acts 20:17 From Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called for the elders of the church. 18 And when they had come to him, he said to them: “You know, from the first day that I came to Asia, in what manner I always lived among you, 19 serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears and trials which happened to me by the plotting of the Jews; 20 how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house, 21 testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God. So how does one rationalize all the scriptures you've cited with the ones I provided in my previous post? Yes a very challenging question indeed. One last bit of scripture and I'll hush. 1 Cor 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. Go with God in all things, trust Him, keep studying and He'll Bless you with the Answer. Bill |

186 | is jesus god? | Col 1:18 | Bill Richardson | 231023
It's helpful to understand there's been three major Dispensations in the Bible. What is a dispensation, you ask? From BibleGateway: Dispensation (Gr. oikonomia, "management," "economy"). The method or scheme according to which God carries out his purposes towards men is called a dispensation. There are usually reckoned three dispensations, the Patriarchal, the Mosaic or Jewish, and the Christian. (See COVENANT, Administration of.) These were so many stages in God's unfolding of his purpose of grace toward men. God the Father was the Dominent Figure during the Patriarchal Age, Genesis thru Abraham with the Law of Moses during the Jewish Age thru Malachi. Jesus the Son, of course started the Christian Age with the assistance of the Holy Spirit, Matthew thru Revelation. So you see all three of the Godhead did participate in the Creation as evidenced in Genesis with the use of "We" in the first chapter. So naturally, Jesus did Know and Hear all of what went on in the Garden of Eden; He just didn't show Himself like His Father did. But as you've already made clear Christ gets all the preeminence in this Dispensation, as given to Him by His Father. So is it a teamwork thing? Not sure; I'd like to think so as Jesus prays in John 17. And you make a good point when the disciples saw Jesus, they saw the Father, John 14:9. BUT another powerful point proving the distinction of the two separate Beings is the fact that no man can see God the Father and live. Ex 33:17 So the Lord said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.” 18 And he said, “Please, show me Your glory.” 19 Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” 20 But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.” 21 And the Lord said, “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. 22 So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. 23 Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.” One must read all of what God has to say on this matter to gain a full understanding of this Trinity along with the separateness of the Godhead. Keep studying; you'll get it. Go with God in all things, Bill |

I apologize as I goofed. Quoted from previous post: "God the Father was the Dominent Figure during the Patriarchal Age, Genesis thru Abraham with the Law of Moses during the Jewish Age thru Malachi." I should have cited as follows: Dominent Figure during the Patriarchal Age, Genesis thru Jacob. I forgot about the fact that the Law of Moses was not instituted until Mount Siani. And after all those Sunday School lessons. (That's egg on my face.) Still going with God in all things, Bill |

188 | only one interpretation for scripture | 2 Pet 1:20 | Bill Richardson | 231127
That's one reason I'm grateful for a Forum such as this. Prov 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. I'm thinking Christianity is the very best form of teamwork with the very best Head Coach, our Lord and Saviour. Go with God in all His Ways, Bill |

189 | sins forgiven, what about new sins? | 1 John 1:9 | Bill Richardson | 231178
I've been taught that as human beings, we're all weak and sinful creatures. First we have to succeed in avoiding "the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye and the pride of life," 1 John 2:16 which is incredibly difficult to do. Then another very difficult weakness of ours as humans, we can't possibly match Jesus in His Life as described in... James 4:17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. We can't possibly do every little good thing of we which we could think to do. We simply don't have the energy or the self-discipline but we also just choose NOT to do it. We are a people of convenience; I'll admit it as I am this way. We like our routines and really don't want to go out of our way looking for new and fresh opportunities to "do good." Also Paul tells us in... Rom 3:21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all[h] who believe. For there is no difference; 23 FOR ALL HAVE SINNED AND FALL SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. What are we to do with this conundrum, a seemingly almost impossible task imposed on us by our Lord? We do the best we can; we set the best kind of example around our co-workers, avoid those obvious sins above and go home to our family as that too is a responsibility charged to us by God in... 1 Tim 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. Finally we just got to go to bed and give over all our inadequacies, cares and frustrations to our God in prayer. I like to do this at night, wake up the following morning and start fresh, resolving to do the best we can in devoting ourselves to imitating His Son, 1 Cor 11:1. This is all part of the Process we call Grace, bestowed on us by our Lord. He gives us that kind of comfort as long as we're maintaining that relationship as cited in... 1 John 1:5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. So we must maintain a proper attitude of gratitude instead of pride and not do more sinning to bring on more Grace. That we must not do... Rom 1:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. I hope this helps; Go with God in all His Ways, Bill |
