181 | John 9:6 why clay and spit on blind man? | 1 Cor 3:19 | Bill Richardson | 230626
The only answer I can think to give is the same reason as He gave us concerning Doubting Thomas. With mankind, "Seeing is believing." We all want to see BUT if we were to see everything about God's World, what would be left for faith. Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. There are so many things in the Bible such as why did Jesus write on the ground upon presentation of the aduterous woman, John 8? Of these kind of questions, I can only reply with... 1 Cor 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”; Go with God in all things, Bill |

182 | biblical role of father with children | 2 Cor 6:4 | Bill Richardson | 230624
My heart goes out to all good, Godly single parents. "There but by the Grace of God, go I." I don't know what my life would have been without my wife but it definitely would not have been good. My only caution to you about "giving up" to this man is this. If he doesn't give you the respect you've clearly earned in rearing these boys after all this time, I doubt he's going to do a good job of teaching them and providing a good example to them in this regard. I would suggest you stay involved in their lives and try to give them balance as it already sounds like their step mother is a little too much on his side. Still praying for you and may God bless your sons. Bill |

183 | Jacob's way or God's way?? | Gen 32:1 | Bill Richardson | 230619
Naturally I must asssume you're talking about the most famous wrestling match of all time. As you suggest Jacob was used to getting his way in the world and God needed to "wrestle" that streak of stubborness out of him and accept His Way instead. Notice Laban's deception was also a "curve ball" Jacob didn't anticipate. But in the end, Jacob is fearful of his brother but surprise, "No need." Esau was willing to forgive and re-establish his relationship with his "long lost" brother. You show a lot of insight in your study of God's Word. I think the most powerful lesson we can learn is from Joseph and how he saw and appreciated God's Guidance in his life. Gen 50:17 ‘Thus you shall say to Joseph: “I beg you, please forgive the trespass of your brothers and their sin; for they did evil to you.”’ Now, please, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of your father.” And Joseph wept when they spoke to him. 18 Then his brothers also went and fell down before his face, and they said, “Behold, we are your servants.” 19 Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? 20 But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. It's sometimes VERY tough for us to grow and mature to the point that we see God's "Nos" and "Waits" for the valuable answers they are in our lives. Go with God in all things, Bill |

184 | Church and addiction | NT general | Bill Richardson | 230617
That's a tough question to answer. In my humble opinion, I would have to say, it really depends on your attitude, your intent deep in your heart. IF you're willing to commit your whole being to the Lord, then you should be willing to give up your addiction as soon as humanly possible. This could be compared to other people with a smoking addiction or drinking of using profanity. There are many such addictions like pornorgraphy and many others. All of us come to the Lord at various stages of our lives. Some at a young age before starting these kinds of addictions and other come afterwards. The apostles found people addicted to being Jewish and welding much power. Some of those Judaziers couldn't give up that power as they insisted on promoting an unGodly doctine of circumcizing christians with no such authority from God. BUT the apostles made it very clear that repentance and forgiveness AFTER becoming a christian is most certainly available. The most inportant feature in all this is our intent in our heart. We may be able to fool our fellow man or even our fellow christians but on Judgment Day, we'll all be facing God Almighty and He will know every little word, every action and every intent in our hearts. So the final question is: Who will be controlling your life? God Almighty or your drug(s). Will you slip and fall in your future? Quite possibly but you'll have your family of christians around you along with the Most Powerful Being in the whole universe helping you. Go with God my friend, Bill |

185 | Exodus 12:14-20 | NT general | Bill Richardson | 230615
There would be nothing wrong in your participating and observing the Passover as a Jew as long as you're not putting your faith in that observance. There's two distinctions you must make: Your Jewish heritage from your human ancestry and your Christian heritage from your Spritual Father. All peoples are allowed to celebrate their human heritage as long as it doesn't come into conflict with that of God's. This is made very by Peter and John in... Acts 5:27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them, 28 saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!” 29 But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men. 30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. 31 Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.” Go with God in all things, Bill |

186 | biblical role of father with children | 2 Cor 6:4 | Bill Richardson | 230614
Sadly there's not a whole lot in God's Word to deal with your specific situation with the fact you and the father were never married. I'm not saying you're completely on your own without any guidance from God but it's VERY difficult to provide counseling especially over the internet without getting both sides of the story. I can only suggest you get counseling from some professional christian counselor and hopefully get the father in the room with you. It does seem rather unfair that he and his wife are getting the foodstamps if indeed you have primary custody of the kids. My son is facing the very same problem with his ex-wife. It's a very harsh and Godless world of darkness and sinful people in which we live. I'll be praying for you and your kids as I'm praying for my own grandkids. Go with God in all things. Bill |

187 | division? | 1 Cor 14:1 | Bill Richardson | 230612
1 Cor 14:34 Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. 35 And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church. Yes I can see that in this modern world of liberal thinking that God's Position on this subject is rather difficult to accept. But remember, we men MUST also follow the sacred Patterns for us set by God so we all have a role to fulfill as Decreed by God, including kids. BUT I must disagree about this dividing the church into groups in Bible School. We enjoy both concepts in our congregation. On Sunday morning, we have two co-ed classes: 1) a class on the Minor Prophets taught by one of our elders and 2) a class on the Christian family taught by our minister. On Wed night, our ladies get together for an exclusive class, discussing the articles in "The Christian Woman" magazine. Thus they are complying with God's Commands to teach younger women and train them up "in the Lord." Us guys meet in a class with me as the discussion leader. Right now we discussing the Book of Hebrews. I acknowledge that it is true, throughout our nation and the family of Christ that some congregations have their own distinct personality and do this dividing business as you suggest a little more harshly than it should be done. But that's just one of the quirks of being where you're at. I grew up in a VERY conservative congregation and have since seen and experienced a great many different parts of the nation and the world, worshiping and working with dozens of congregations. They all have very distinct personalities, spanning the whole spectrum of conservative to liberal. So it's always important to choose a congregation that closely resembles your own personality, for your own spiritual growth as well as your spouse and children. I can't think of a specific scripture to support that last statement but I can offer a famous quote: "Grow where you're planted." I do know for a fact that our God does want us to grow and we MUST do so in accordance with His Word. Jn 15:1 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. Heb 5:12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. 14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Go with God, Bill PS: I confirmed just now with my wife about this exclusive class of women. They prefer it this way; they talk about stuff they would never feel comfortable discussing with men present. God's Way is always the best way. In this manner we men talk about men stuff, especially to our young men, including how they must respect the women in their lives and the ladies do their thing. |

188 | Saved by Grace or Acts? | Lev 6:2 | Bill Richardson | 230610
Then there's also a little more on this topic from James, the "Straw Epistle" as descriped in the past. James makes it very clear by using the conjuction "and." James 2:19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? Notice even the demons believe in the existance of Jesus Christ but they choose NOT to obey. We MUST follow the Commands of Christ; in obedience, we must adopt the lifestyle of a genuine christian with deeds of kindness and devotion for our Lord's sake. This is the way people of the world will see Christ in our lives by being that "light in the world of darkness" or the "salt of the earth," influencing the world for good and motivating them to inquire as to why we choose to live such a life. Notice ancient Samuel revealed this basic truth to King Saul and he too chose NOT to obey. 1 Sam 15:22 So Samuel said: “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. So yes indeed we must put in faith in God to save us AND we must obey Him in acting and behaving as a true, genuine child of God. BUT we must never think we can earn our way to Heaven. No this attitude is also put down rather harshly in... Rom 2:5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 who “will render to each one according to his deeds”: 7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; 8 but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath, 9 tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; 10 but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 11 For there is no partiality with God. 2 Cor 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. 1 Pet 1:17 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; Now on the other question about repentance as one of the steps in getting salvation. Throughout the Bible the concept of repentance has always included the attempt of restoration. Thus a theif must return the stolen goods to their rightful owners or do his best to do so. A murderer should feel obligated to ask forgiveness from the family and attempt to restore the manpower as represented by his victim to that family, again as best he/she can within his/her ability. Why is this necessary? God's basic Principle of "Reaping what we've sown in life." Gal 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. Are we forgiven by God? Sure BUT that doesn't mean He releases us from this basic principle. How long after being saved must this repentance or restoration process last? I really can't say for certain but I wouldn't want to approach God on Judgment Day and come up short when He asks that question. Ex 22:1 “If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and slaughters it or sells it, he shall restore five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep. 2 If the thief is found breaking in, and he is struck so that he dies, there shall be no guilt for his bloodshed. 3 If the sun has risen on him, there shall be guilt for his bloodshed. He should make full restitution; if he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft. 4 If the theft is certainly found alive in his hand, whether it is an ox or donkey or sheep, he shall restore double. 5 “If a man causes a field or vineyard to be grazed, and lets loose his animal, and it feeds in another man’s field, he shall make restitution from the best of his own field and the best of his own vineyard. Lev 24:18 Whoever kills an animal shall make it good, animal for animal. Go with God, my friend, Bill |

189 | Were the Jews doomed? | Is 58:2 | Bill Richardson | 230609
The answer above is good but I just wanted to make certain I understand correctly. It seems to me that Yes, of course, the Jews were all doomed to suffer the same fate as ALL mankind. Paul made this clear in Rom 3:23 for ALL of us are human and have a great irresitable urge to NOT live the absolutely perfect life like Jesus. So from the very beginning upon kicking Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden, God knew that we would all need His Son as the Perfect Sacrifice to take care of our sins, thus His Plan to send Jesus for that purpose, Gen 3:15. All the heros of the Bible, even Abraham, Moses and all the others made mistakes in their lives and thus needed this avenue to make it to Heaven. Without Christ's Blood to cover our sins, any person on Judgment Day is doomed to spend eternity in Hell. 1 Pet 1:2 elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied. 1 Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 190 | What is the gospel? | 1 Cor 15:1 | Bill Richardson | 230608
To most Bible students, the Gospel simply means the Good News from our God, the Creator that He sent His Son to die for ALL mankind, from Adam and Eve to the last person born before the Return of His Son to end the world and begin Judgement Day. Of course, we must comply with His Son's Last Will and Testament to receive this Gift of Salvation, as depicted in Hebrews 9. Also applicable: Jn 14:19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. 20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” 22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.
