81 | Adopting a Ministry | Matt 18:30 | Bill Richardson | 231094
Got a question for you. Do you all believe it's required or is it just a good idea to adopt a ministry of some kind? I've tried to promote this idea to our group but we still experience the 80-20 principle of getting things done. (Of course the 80-20 could vary as a ratio in your part of the country but I've found the principle to be part of human nature. It seems the Jews weren't the only ones to practice the Remnant Theory.) Anyway a ministry can be as simple as cleaning the building or as challenging as sharing Christ with one's friends and neighbors. I'm convinced it's important to adopt a ministry of some kind in light of Jesus Parable of the debtor in prison, Matt 18. Tell me what ya think and Go with God in all things, Bill |

82 | Lazy man | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231093
In addition to Brad's good suggestions, I must a couple of items. Even upon becoming a christian, God expects a higher level of behavior compared to the world. For example: 2 Thess 3:10 For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. and 1 Tim 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. Believe me I understand laziness as I'm inclined that way a little since I retired but then my conscience reminds me of my Christian upbringing and get up and do something, first for my Lord, then for my family. Then I usually have a bite of breakfast. Go with God in all things my friend and He'll Bless you. But I also agree with Brad; you need to make Christ your Lord right away. |

83 | Do you drink milk? | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231092
In support of Doc's good answer, I can only add a brief item. To me when I read your inquiry, I can't help but think God has a sense of humor. Have you ever gone to the zoo and looked at the tremendous variety of animals He Created in just one 24 hour period? Think about that crazy looking giraffe. Poor guy has to reach into the sky and eat off of trees and then almost do a split to take a drink of water. The wonderful part is, because of this awkward position, they watch out for one another for dangerous animals lurking around. Kinda reminds you of christians watching out for each other for Satan, the "roaring lion," of 1 Pet 5:8. One more tidbit: Have you ever thought what a boring world this would be without all of God's wonderful love of color? Example: The whole human race all one color? Yeah, I agree, BORING! Go with God in all things my friend, Bill PS: I think it's neat to take atheists all the way back to the beginning of the Big Bang and THEN ask 'em, "Where that stuff come from?" Yeah, it's called a leap of faith, you knucklehead. Far easier to believe in Creation in 6 days, 24 hours each. |

84 | why was queen of Sheba allowed in the Pa | OT general | Bill Richardson | 231091
I assume you're referring to the palace of Solomon, the wisest human of all time, except for Jesus. Solomon was enlighten, if you remember with a special Godly installed dose of His wisdom, as he asked for at a very young age. 1 Kings 3:7 Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. 8 And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. 9 Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” 10 The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. 11 Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, 12 behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. BUT also the Israelite nation had a great heritage because their Laws came from God. His Laws were far more humane and fair to women than almost all the surrounding nations. So it's really not all that unusual for a Queen from a neighboring country to come for a visit. Also don't forget, Solomon had a weakness for foreign women which was his undoing but that's another story. Welcome to the Forum amd Go with God in all things, my friend. Bill |

86 | cain was of the evil one | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231085
1 John 3:10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. 11 For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, 12 not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous. This passage seems pretty straight forward to me if you've read the story and Cain and Able. Why don't you re-read it and come back to us with your response. I'd love to talk about it. It could all be summed up from Jesus Words in... Matt 12:30 He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad. Of course, here Jesus is speaking for the whole Godhead. As God sees all mankind there's two groups of people as clearly depicted in... Matt 25:31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. and Matt 7:13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. 88 | requirements | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231077
Dear Deny, CDBJ's response is quite sound and right on target. It appears you and many, many others are at cross purposes with the main objective of this Forum. Our aim here is to solicit and interact with real and genuine students of the Bible. We want to open a good and productive dialouge with you and anyone else that has a very genuine interest in Bible topics, issues and tough questions. BUT we do get a tremendous host of folks who come here asking what obviously looks like what they are and that is homework and trivia questions. The way to offset this appearance is to cite Book, Chapter and verse of the particular topic about which you're asking. THEN after providing BCV, we want to see what your thoughts are about the matter. What motivated you to ask? You know the circumstances, ie sermon you just heard. But most important, start a real and genuine dialouge about the topic. If this is a little harsh, then I would suggest you haven't spent much in your Bible or on the Internet. These are very, VERY reasonable expectations on our part. We want to develop and maintain productive and long-lasting relationships with genuine Bible students. If you can accept these parameters, we would love to have you join us. Please do so. Hope this helps; Go with God in all things, Bill |

89 | Why more than 1 books of Kings an others | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231076
With this question, one has to remember the timeframe as part of the context. Its helpful to remember that the OT was written in Hebrew on scrolls and these scrolls took up quite a bit of room in someone's library. In the case of those Books like 1, 2 Sam, 1, 2 Kings, 1, 2 Chron, the author(s) had much to say and took up a lot of scrolls and thus a little more room in our OT. However, the mode of thought was completely different in the case of the Epistles. In this case, the authors like Paul and Peter were writing to a specific audience, including us BTW. But they were each dealing with specific issues and correcting very specific problems. Thus they were short and to the point with a certain amount of greetings and salutations, etc. The second letters from Paul, Peter and John were those of a follow-up nature. They were checking to see how everyone was making out with previous guidance and answered any further issues of one kind or another. Notice that there are rumors and even hints in Paul's letters that there were most likely a third or even a fourth letter to Corinth. Remember the Corinthians had many, severe problems and Paul felt like a "mother hen" to these people. It's quite obvious that God in His Wisdom didn't think we needed these letters or we would have them in our Bibles. It's quite possible they were just suggested guidance from Paul, not Inspired Commands from God, as Paul did in other letters. We should remember that the Bible was a Process that took over 1600 years to complete with about 40 authors, from all occupations and backgrounds, reflecting the distinct personalities in their writing style. But make no mistake, the whole Bible from Gen 1 to Rev 22 is all Inspired by God Almighty. He just allowed His Message to be given through the pens of these authors to reflect all the wonderful and majestic facets of our God. I think it's noteworthy to see and appreciate the Hand of Providence in protecting and maintaining the Bible throughout these thousands of years. We should revere the tremendous amount of care and respect by the copiers over the ages in this sacred Process. I understand throughout all these copies and the best translations, there's not much more than the tiniest bit of variation and those few are negligible. Hope this helps; Go with God in all things, Bill |

90 | when seeking forgiveness causes pain | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231075
In addition to Makarios' good answer I would add that pain and a little suffering is a good sign of healing just like with our physical bodies. Sin separates us from God and the spirit of a truly Godly person doesn't like to be separated from God. That's why "God wants all men everywhere to repent," Acts 17:30. Also 2 Cor 7:8 For even if I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it. For I perceive that the same epistle made you sorry, though only for a while. 9 Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. 11 For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter. 12 Therefore, although I wrote to you, I did not do it for the sake of him who had done the wrong, nor for the sake of him who suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear to you. When a grievous sin is involved as it appears to be in your case, then the trauma, pain and suffering as described above is a little more severe. BUT the best thing is the end result; after genuine Godly repentance is done then the healing can begin. Go with God in all things, Bill |

91 | Am I living as Christ would want me to? | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231074
I'm also thinking along with Ed's good advice that you'll want to add these features to your "walk with God." Check your armor of God, Eph 6:10-18, making certain you don't have any weaknesses. Almost impossible to do but we have to try and reach full maturity in the Lord. Then you might want to check your list of "fruit of the Spirit," as listed in, Gal 5:22-26. After you get all of this perfected, again tough to do, then you can move on to my last suggestion. BTW, one needs to go back and constantly maintain ALL of this stuff on armor of God and fruit of the Spirit, as it's easy to neglect one and then fall into temptation. Next I would say you probably need a soul mate, a person different from your spouse. Although your spouse is your very best friend here on earth and should be an invaluable source of encouragement and love toward your goal of Heaven, a spouse doesn't quite understand ALL the deepest details of the opposite sex. I'm suggesting a soulmate in whom you can trust and confide your most intimate secret weaknesses as described in... 1 John 1:5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. Our soulmate of the same sex will better understand the innermost and basic drives that separtes us from our mates. After all, there really is some wisdom in the book, "Men from Mars and Women from Venus." Your soulmate along with your spouse will pray for you and pray with you in your effort to reach the very best person for God you can be. After perfecting all the above, including regular and thorough maintenance, I'd have to refer you to someone else for further work, probably in person. But I do firmly believe we can never really achieve Perfection in the same way as our Lord but we must try. He's looking for our best efforts and intentions. Also achieving any modicum of success in this program is all trash and useless as far as "earning our way to Heaven." That can NEVER be done; instead we MUST put our faith and trust in the life-saving Blood of our Lord. Our attempts at growing and maturing in our walk with our Lord is merely just giving back to Him what we owe Him for saving our souls AND our lives from sin as depicted in His Parable, Matt 18. We're the one who owes Him "ten thousand talents" or more and can't hope to EVER pay Him back or earn our way out of debt. Hope this helps; Go with God in all things, Bill |

93 | Bible verse needed, I can't find it. | Luke 22:61 | Bill Richardson | 231071
Welcom to the Forum, Fjord1901. I believe this is that for which you're looking: Luke 22:54 Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed at a distance. 55 Now when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them. 56 And a certain servant girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, looked intently at him and said, “This man was also with Him.” 57 But he denied Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.” 58 And after a little while another saw him and said, “You also are of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!” 59 Then after about an hour had passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Surely this fellow also was with Him, for he is a Galilean.” 60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” 62 So Peter went out and wept bitterly. Yes the famous Peter, impulsive like so many of us, ready to fight for Jesus but afraid to stand up for Him when He just wants our alligence. Most sermons on this subject contrast this story and Peter's subsequent meeting with His Lord in his underclothes as he was in the water fishing, John 21. The most beautiful aspect is Peter's repentance and restoration to His Lord, later that same chapter. Now the most powerful contrast is shown with the tragic role of Judas. Sure he betrayed His Lord but he too could have repented and been restored but he couldn't forgive himself and instead commits suicide, Matt 27:5. What a tragic yet powerful contrast showing the two basic ways to respond to the Lord's invitation. Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21 To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. BTW, this is our preferred manner of responding here on the Forum where everyone can see and participate. We're all interested in getting your input and open a dialouge on this subject. Tell us what motivated you to ask this question. Also, for your reference and assistance in the future, all you need to do to look up a passage in the Bible is use the Search Engine to the right of your screen. I prefer the BibleGateway website. In this case I just inserted "Peter turned" and found the passage in spite of the fact that it was Jesus who turned His Head. That's one of the amazing features; it looks for those two words in the verse. Makes it easy for all of us. Let us know how we can help you further. We're your servants. 94 | gods blessing goes to younger not older | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231068
Quoted from Cheagan: "Anyone wanna take a stab at the theological implications?" I've always been taught this was a demonstration of God's Wisdom over man's wisdom. You see, like a small child we human beings read the scriptures below but it doesn't seem to register with us until we get smacked in the face with the "cold harsh reality of God's Ways," in the form of a humbling session. 1 Cor 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.” 20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 22 For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1 Cor 3:18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”; 20 and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” 21 Therefore let no one boast in men. and Is 55:8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. We just have to accept the fact in God's World, His Ways, His Thoughts are about as far above ours as our ways and thoughts are above the insect world, maybe a little more distant. Go with God in all things, Bill PS: And the answer is Yes. I too have had my humbling session with God; as a matter of fact, several times. |

95 | How was Jesus fastened to the cross" | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231055
In supplement to John's good answer, I thought I would give just a little more information. I just discovered a very good and thorough website on this subject, http://the-crucifixion.org/ In this website, the writers do take the position of nailing the wrists to the cross because it is a fact, nails in the palms of one's hands would just be ripped out with the "waves of pain." That brings me to the main point I wish to emphasize. IF you really want to know ALL of that which our Lord endured, click on the link, "Physician's View" and you'll see a horror story worse than anything on TV. Seven times our Lord said some pretty amazing statements and each time brought a truly inhuman amount of pain and torture. Click on this link and find out why. Even the strongest men in the world crucified in this manner would cry out in pain. Here's a clue: just drawing a breath of air to keep on living meant standing up on those nails in your feet. One CANNOT draw a breath while on the cross in this extended position because the diaphram can't draw in air that way. Yes, excruciating! But our Lord did this for us, you, me and the whole world, "while we were yet sinners." BTW, I understand in the Jewish world at that time in the first century, the wrist really was considered part of the hand so even if the nails were driven into the wrists, the Jews still called it the hand. 96 | Prophecies in Isaiah | OT general | Bill Richardson | 231053
I always like to wrap up my posts on the Forum with a reminder from Paul... Col 3:12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Go with God in all things, my friend. Bill |

97 | How to treat non-believers? | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231052
Along with Beja's good answer, I can only add another note. When we look at the example left by our Lord, we should follow His Lead and try to be merciful and compassionate. Mark 6:33 But the multitudes saw them departing, and many knew Him and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them and came together to Him. 34 And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things. and of course the wonderful example from Paul... 1 Cor 9:19 For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; 20 and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; 21 to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; 22 to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23 Now this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I may be partaker of it with you. But there again, I also think the Lord does draw a line when the unbelievers go too far and show their total lack of respect for God's Will as Jesus said in... Matt 7:1 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. 3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. 6 “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces. So what am I saying? I'm saying as long as there's the slightest chance a person might be reached with the Gospel, we shouldn't give up hope. We should continue to teach when we can, live as best we can to "be at peace with all men," like Beja mentioned with scripture. Then maybe with the seed we've planted, the Lord can work on their conscience and maybe even humble them in His Own Way and bring them around. But when it's obvious the person in question only shows complete, absolute disdain for God and everything about Him, then we should turn and find someone else to share God's Gift and not waste our time, "casting pearls to swine." But again, we should never show anger or frustration to such a person. Even this person can be humbled by the Lord and we His vessels should never close a door where the Lord might step thru and save such an individual. Go with God in all things, Bill |

98 | Please define AD and BC (time). | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231050
I must admit, I don't care for the changeover to CE (Common Era) and BCE (Before Common Era). They still use the same year, the one in which our Lord was born in spite of the 4 year "slip-up." The things our secular world does to bring it in alignment with being "politically correct," just so as to not offend our non-Christian friends and neighbors. This whole world operated for two thousand years and designed its calendar around this earth-shaking event, birth of our Lord, thus "giving Him all the preeminence." And now they want to change it. I don't care when I work on my school papers for my college course, I plan on using BC and AD in protest. Call me a radical but I prefer to think I'm following some pretty big footsteps, Peter and John in... Acts 5:29 But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men. Sorry, just had to vent. Go with God in all things. Bill |
