Bible Question: If the unpardonable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, then can a person be forgiven if they follow the anti-christ, then change their mind and ask forgiveness of Christ? |
Bible Answer: This has been a rather difficult subject for all Bible students for many centuries. We have the plain and clear Words from Jesus Himself... Matt 12:31 “Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. No question there; then we have more from His Official Representatives, one of whom was Paul in... Col 3:8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, BLASPHEMY, filthy language out of your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, 11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. So it's clear a person CANNOT get forgiveness for Blasphemy against the HS but a person CAN get forgiveness for blasphemy against anything else. Repentance is the key here. Remember Paul is addressing his words to the christians at Colosse so they have turned their back on their past life of sin and became christians. Christians can always turn their back on their Lord as Peter depicted in 2 Peter 2:22. Then such a person can always come back to Lord, repenting of their sin and be included back into God's family as shown in 1 and 2 Corinthians with the man carrying on an affair with his father's wife. The anti-Christ was just another expression of the apostacy or falling away. There's always a temptation for most all of us christians to go back to our previous "man of sin." It's a tug of war as depicted in Romans 7. God's Grace and Mercy is ALWAYS available to us as His children as He wants all mankind to come home to him. Hope this helps; Go with God in all His Ways, Bill |
