41 | selling raffle tickets | Bible general Archive 3 | wordoer | 158039
Hello pbp, I had always wondered what was wrong with gambling, such as the lottery, raffles, and other games of chance. I found out that it causes covetousness. Through these games of chance it can also make people poor. It also helps people to break the Tenth Commandment. Especially if it is a desirable item to have, Like a beautiful quilt or 26 million dollars, now who wouldn't want that? Deut 7:25 "The graven images of their gods you are to burn with fire; you shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, or you will be snared by it, for it is an abomination to the LORD your God. 42 | Creation of man noted on 2 diff. days? | Gen 1:27 | wordoer | 157763
Hello rayanez, I guess the following statement, "For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. 2 Tim 4:3a NIV", that kalos points out disqualifies me from giving a reasonable answer as it may be seen as "not sound doctrine" by the many. My answer to your question is that Adam was an eighth day creation, other men and women were created previously. I and a few others see these accounts in Genesis 1 and 2 as a continuation of the creation account. Two questions I would like to have answered is, "Where in scripture does God have a point gone over to explain in greater detail other than the supposed Genesis 1, and 2 accounts?", and "Is there an example for us to take the position that Genesis 1, and 2 are the same accounts?". In the account in Gen.1:26,27 this man and woman were spoken into existance, and in the Gen.2:7 the man was formed out of the dust of the ground, and in Gen.2:5 states that there was not a man to till the ground. Adam was a farmer, these created in 1:27 were hunter, gatherers. Then we have in Gen 3:1, the serpent, Ok a talking snake, possibly the progeny of those John spoke to in Matthew 3:7, "you brood of vipers", Did John see and speak to snakes, or men? These other peoples are mentioned throughout scripture. wordoer |

43 | the law regarding a wedding | OT general | wordoer | 157735
Hello candice, I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for in the way of an answer; maybe you could clarify your question to be more specific. There seems to be a lot of traditional rituals that are adhered to by different cultures. In some cases the Bible says that a man took a wife, and from what I can see, a wedding can be as simple as a man and a woman giving each other the vows, in front of two witnesses. I would hazard to guess that "taking a wife" has different contexts as to the condition or situation of His people as a nation. I cannot find any hard and fast rules/laws on the wedding itself (as I understand the ceremony), other than the MAN and WOMAN must be in agreement when entering the covenant. Therefore the vows that are taken reflect the agreement of the parties. I had previously posted on marriage vows (which are given in the wedding) in post # 96145, you can enter that number in the search box in the upper right hand of the page to read that. There are laws for marriage, divorce, and other related subjects. The word "wedding", used in scripture, seems to be used in some cases, as "marriage". hope this helps, wordoer |

44 | what age does a boy become a man bibica | Bible general Archive 3 | wordoer | 157401
Hello Melvie, I am certain there is a Biblical answer to your question, and I believe this also relates to what some refer to as the "age of accountability", I would define this as an age when boys become men and therefore accountable to God for their actions. This is according to my definition, if you define it differently I would be interested in your definition. Contrary to Jewish tradition, The scripture is clear, the age when a boy becomes a man. If you look in scripture, Ex 30:14 "Everyone who is numbered, from twenty years old and over, shall give the contribution to the LORD. Num 1:3 from twenty years old and upward, whoever is able to go out to war in Israel, you and Aaron shall number them by their armies. Num 1:18 and they assembled all the congregation together on the first of the second month. Then they registered by ancestry in their families, by their fathers' households, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, head by head, These are listed for every tribe, But suffice it to say; Num 1:40 Of the sons of Asher, their genealogical registration by their families, by their fathers' households, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, whoever was able to go out to war, Num 26:2 "Take a census of all the congregation of the sons of Israel from twenty years old and upward, by their fathers' households, whoever is able to go out to war in Israel." This scripture may be the hardest to see an age that people would be held accountable for their actions. Num 32:11 'None of the men who came up from Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob; for they did not follow Me fully, Ezra 3:8 Now in the second year of their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem in the second month, Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Jeshua the son of Jozadak and the rest of their brothers the priests and the Levites, and all who came from the captivity to Jerusalem, began the work and appointed the Levites from twenty years and older to oversee the work of the house of the LORD. Some say five, seven or when they (children) understand right from wrong, This would be a good place to arbitrarily put in an age, as some see fit, such as twelve or thirteen. Deut 1:34"Then the LORD heard the sound of your words, and He was angry and took an oath, saying, Deut 1:35'Not one of these men, this evil generation, shall see the good land which I swore to give your fathers, Deut 1:36 except Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him and to his sons I will give the land on which he has set foot, because he has followed the LORD fully.' Deut 1:37"The LORD was angry with me also on your account, saying, 'Not even you shall enter there. Deut 1:38'Joshua the son of Nun, who stands before you, he shall enter there; encourage him, for he will cause Israel to inherit it. Deut 1:39'Moreover, your little ones who you said would become a prey, and your sons, who this day have no knowledge of good or evil, shall enter there, and I will give it to them and they shall possess it. 2 Tim 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; I know there is opposition to this teaching, So please follow this standard of using scripture! Most states say eighteen or twenty one, however scripture says those numbered from twenty years and upward. In my state they are trying to hold accountable at this time an eighteen year old boy as an adult (time or age to be fully accountable for his actions) for a death that occurred when he was seventeen (the crime he committed would be considered involuntary manslaughter, a girl died in a car accident, in which he was driving). There are other aspects to this case, but I just say it just to show an age, which the state has decided they would be able to hold him fully accountable for his actions. So, it is left for you to decide, the scriptures I give you show God’s view on the subject, search the archives to see SCRIPTURE that others may show you. (emphasis mine) Children are accountable to their parents up to an age when God will hold them accountable. Even Jesus was under His parents as shown in Luke 2:51 And He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and He continued in subjection to them; and His mother treasured all these things in her heart. He could have told them “go on without me”, but He continued in subjection to them. (the scripture notes that He was 12 years old at that time). I would be interested to hear your comments on this, agreeable or not. I hope this is in line with your question, and has helped you. wordoer |

45 | Where do we go after death | Eccl 12:7 | wordoer | 157334
Hello iwatercc, If you have never been to a funeral, you can see first hand where people go when they die. It seems to be a prominent happening in scripture, that dead people go to the grave. Gen 50:5 'My father made me swear, saying, "Behold, I am about to die; in my grave which I dug for myself in the land of Canaan, there you shall bury me." Now therefore, please let me go up and bury my father; then I will return.'" 1 Kin 13:31 After he had buried him, he spoke to his sons, saying, "When I die, bury me in the grave in which the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones. Here are a couple of scriptures concerning the spirit or breath that God has given, as He breathed the life into Adam. Ps 146:4 His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; In that very day his thoughts perish. Eccl 12:7 then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it. Then those who die in Christ have the resurrection to look forward to. John 11:25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,... 46 | Age of accountability? | Luke 2:42 | wordoer | 156857
Hello lionheart, May I ask you, "age of accountability to, or for what?" Please explain. Maybe this is why people can not get a solid answer to this question. I think Jesus' age was mentioned for a reason in this referenced scripture, and I think it does have something to do with His accountability. I look forward to your reply, wordoer |

47 | What would change End-Times? | 2 Pet 3:12 | wordoer | 156241
Hello pejo, It won't change the outcome, because I've read the Book and we (Christians) win. I do believe that the timing would change, as it says in 2 Peter 3:12 "looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God,..." This scripture shows the timing can be changed. We have the capacity to do this thing, maybe we could try it sometime. But, I'm so busy (Burdened Under Satans Yoke) though like everyone else, with work and all (having to gather my own straw to make bricks). Where would we ever find the time to do such a thing as a nation? wordoer |

48 | tattoos | Leviticus | wordoer | 156058
Hello Laura, It is written. Lev 19:28 'You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD. There is the scripture Mark says many will point out (in Leviticus). I myself would obey the Lord, But you have the decision to make. If I needed some outward sign, I would get a hat, shirt, or a plaque with that insignia on it, at least you wouldn't be breaking the Law, and you could take it off a lot easier. 1 John 3:4 Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. Prov 29:9. Does the debate rage on for you? wordoer |

49 | Was Sabbath tested prior to Sinai. | OT general | wordoer | 155154
Hello swerv, Well, In addition to Makarios' answer, I see at least one right off that was tested. Gen 26:5 because Abraham obeyed Me and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes and My laws." So there it is, the Law of God in existance before Mt. Sinai. He had to have been tested, because it says he was obedient. But, It appears God kept this Sabbath day, as it is written in Genesis 2:2-3, My Bible even references Exodus 20:8-11. It has probably existed as long as God. wordoer |

Hello Doc, Why wouldn't we accept it? I don't know. I was just trying to answer the question. I do stand corrected though, as I was wrong, Terah was Abrahams father, and Sarah was from another wife of Terah. Thank you, wordoer Thanks also to WOS |

51 | What Bible says on marriage of relatives | Gen 28:2 | wordoer | 154448
Hello tkt, You may read the Law in Leviticus chapter 18 to discern what relationships are forbidden. But the Bible example we have to learn from shows that it would be no closer than first cousins. I have also studied into Abrahams relation to Sarah, and I believe she was Abrahams brother Terah's daughter, which would have made her Abrahams niece. And Foxworthy joked about rednecks going to family reunions to find a mate. Well, maybe they were rednecks, and God loved them and blessed them. wordoer |

Hello Billwalk13, In Jeremiah 3:8 you will read that God definitely did divorce Israel. As He says in Hosea 1:4 ...I will put an end to the kingdom of Israel. Read Hosea 1 and 2, especially 1:10 and 11. wordoer |

53 | Was this promise fulfilled? | Josh 1:4 | wordoer | 148624
Greetings kalos, Josh 23:14 "Now behold, today I am going the way of all the earth, and you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one word of all the good words which the LORD your God spoke concerning you has failed; all have been fulfilled for you, not one of them has failed. Josh 23:15 "It shall come about that just as all the good words which the LORD your God spoke to you have come upon you, so the LORD will bring upon you all the threats, until He has destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you. It really sounds like He kept all His promises, I would have to question your reliable sources in light of the scripture. Rom 3:4 May it never be! Rather, let God be found true, though every man be found a liar, as it is written, "THAT YOU MAY BE JUSTIFIED IN YOUR WORDS, AND PREVAIL WHEN YOU ARE JUDGED." In the blessed name of Jesus Christ, wordoer |

55 | why did jesus speak in parables | Matt 13:13 | wordoer | 124476
Hello LSmith, Jesus spoke in parables because there were some people that He did not want to understand. Mark 4:34 and He did not speak to them without a parable; but He was explaining everything privately to His own disciples. Matt 13:13 "Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. Matt 13:34 All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and He did not speak to them without a parable. Matt 13:35 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: "I WILL OPEN MY MOUTH IN PARABLES; I WILL UTTER THINGS HIDDEN SINCE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD." Things are revealed in the parables that had previously been hidden. Mark 4:10 As soon as He was alone, His followers, along with the twelve, began asking Him about the parables. He explained them to His disciples. Mark 4:11 And He was saying to them, "To you has been given the mystery of the kingdom of God, but those who are outside get everything in parables, The outsiders got everything in parables. Here is one case where those who He did not want to understand, perceived that He was speaking of them. Matt 21:45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables, they understood that He was speaking about them. Mark 4:13 And He *said to them, "Do you not understand this parable? How will you understand all the parables? Mark 4:33 With many such parables He was speaking the word to them, so far as they were able to hear it; He was speaking the Word to them, at that time the Word consisted of what we now know as the Old Testament. Mark 4:9 And He was saying, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." Jesus had many other things to tell His disciples but they could not bear to hear them yet. John 16:12 "I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. I hope this helps your understanding, wordoer |

57 | It isn't right to eat pig is it? | 1 Tim 4:4 | wordoer | 111596
Hello EdB, I am focused on this part of the Law, because it is relative to the question that started this thread, (unlike your question to me which would be more appropriate in another thread- concerning the whole of the Law, and what Jesus Christ accomplished on the cross). I am not as ignorant as you may think concerning the Law. I also believe you skirted my request by giving me chapter references, and no specific verse, It is time consuming to search through all those chapters (especially on a wild goose chase). My reason for asking you for references of your statement is because I am unaware of these laws you mention, specifically; (your statements in quotes), This is the first one I can’t find in God’s Law, “…and you do not touch your wife and make her leave the house when she has her period” Nor can this be located maybe it is worded differently? “You have two fridges one for dairy and one for meat” I believe I have heard of the great cheeseburger prohibition, But, I can't find it in scripture. “you never eat cheese burgers” “ If not, why do you keep part of the law but not all of it?” Are we looking at the same Law? You did mention some of God’s Laws and then saw fit to throw these in; I am just trying to make sure your statements are valid. I would like to be on the same page with you when I answer your question. I appreciate your blessings, wordoer |

Hello EdB, I have been intending on addressing your question to me, however I am unable to answer because I can find no scripture relating to several of the things you are assuming I should keep according to the Law. Please give me the scriptures you are refering to so that I may properly address your question as to why I keep "part" of the Law and not all of it. I am assuming these are all found in Leviticus. Thank you, wordoer |
