42 | origin of standard marital vows | Ex 24:7 | wordoer | 96145
Hello mamere17, I think the principle is in scripture, it is not the same wording ,But I think the principles apply. I have been intending on doing a more thorough study on the subject, I hope this will suffice. Concerning, "for richer and poorer", I would relate that to when Israel was prosperous they would turn their back on God and go whoring after other gods. "in sickness and in health", The Lord said "I will never leave you or forsake you", which I would say applies here. "forsaking all others", The Lord said, "thou shalt have no other gods before Me" Exodus 20:3. "til death do you part", I believe the scripture uses the term, "all the days of your life" I believe the vows are scriptural in nature. After all, God is the one who gave us this institution of marriage, He married (entered into a covenant relationship with) Israel at Mount Sinai. Ex 24:7 Then he took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people; and they said, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient!". And there is "obey", his woman Israel, said that. hope that helps you, wordoer |

43 | tattoos | Leviticus | wordoer | 156058
Hello Laura, It is written. Lev 19:28 'You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD. There is the scripture Mark says many will point out (in Leviticus). I myself would obey the Lord, But you have the decision to make. If I needed some outward sign, I would get a hat, shirt, or a plaque with that insignia on it, at least you wouldn't be breaking the Law, and you could take it off a lot easier. 1 John 3:4 Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. Prov 29:9. Does the debate rage on for you? wordoer |

45 | work on Sundays | Deut 5:14 | wordoer | 104859
Hello bobnstar, I would not say that it is in violation of God's law to work on Sunday, because it is hard to determine which day is the Sabbath. He doesn't say don't work on Sunday. I believe a good rule for today is to work six days and rest on the seventh, that is mentioned often. We should do the best we can, if your seventh day doesn't line up with everyone elses, I wouldn't debate it, allow the Lord to direct your steps. I do believe you should take one day in seven to rest. That seems to be sufficient for God, or he would not have said it. I believe we will know which day is the Sabbath as we grow closer to our Lord, He will reveal it, and we will with one mind keep that prescribed day, of one accord. I think it is interesting the way God determines as a day, look at Gen 1:5, God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day. , It seems to start at noon ( beginning of evening) and ends at noon (at the end of the morning). I hope this helps you, wordoer |

46 | lawful on the sabbath days to do good | Deut 5:14 | wordoer | 105000
Hello New Creature, you ask; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?" My answer is; It is lawful to do good, not to do evil, Never is it lawful to do evil. Saving life would be my preference and according to scripture as well (as if my preference would matter). Mark 3:4 And He *said to them, "Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath, to save a life or to kill?" But they kept silent. I won't keep silent, I'll tell you straight. Mark 3:2 They were watching Him to see if He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him. I don't know how you have come to think that I would not want someone to be healed. But the Pharisees were looking to accuse Jesus. Mark 3:6 The Pharisees went out and immediately began conspiring with the Herodians against Him, as to how they might destroy Him. They set out to destroy Him because He did good? This is the Pharisees mindset, they would rather see someone suffer, They had no compassion on this afflicted man. Never should a Christian desire to see someone suffer. The point of my answer was to have a day of rest. Work six days and rest on the seventh. As far a Doctors and nurses, do they heal on the Sabbath? or are they making a living off of the suffering of others? It is something to think about. If this is the case, I am not very appreciative of it. I would rather the sick and afflicted humble themselves before the Great Physician, so they might be truly healed. Thank you for the opportunity to clarify my position on this important subject, wordoer |

47 | is it wrong to date or marry outside of | Deut 7:3 | wordoer | 94408
Hello SD100702, There are examples in scripture where Israel was told not to intermarry with those of other nations and not to give their daughters and sons to them marriage. They didn't always listen and it caused them many problems, for they sinned against their God. Here are some of the scriptures, Gen. 34:9, Deut. 7:3, Josh. 23:12, Ezra 9:14. You can also search key words at the "Get Bible Text" window to the right. There is plenty on the subject in scripture. Ezra and Nehemiah tell of how the men sinned and took foriegn wives, Ezra 10, and how men of God made a change and had those men put away those whom they intermarried with. God doesn't change, Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Ex 24:12 Now the LORD said to Moses, "Come up to Me on the mountain and remain there, and I will give you the stone tablets with the law and the commandment which I have written for their instruction." Deut 7:3 "Furthermore, you shall not intermarry with them; you shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor shall you take their daughters for your sons. 2 Rom 15:4 For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. 1 Cor 10:11 Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. You can also read about Balak and Balaam, in Numbers chapters 22-25. Num 31:16 "Behold, these caused the sons of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, so the plague was among the congregation of the LORD. When you read this you can see how Israel was enticed to sin and God's wrath came upon them in a plague, which Phineas put an end to. This should get you started and I hope they help, wordoer |

48 | Israel and worship of other gods | Deut 11:16 | wordoer | 189655
Hello, Tuggy, They are an obstinant people, and not smart enough to know when they have a good thing going. Which I think is why He calls us sheep. Like in this verse in 1 Samuel 8, They had a King, Which was The Most High God, but they wanted a King like all the other nations, You can read the whole chapter. It is really dumb, even after Samuel told them how it would be under an earthly king. Also if you read in Kings and Chronicles their kings would cause them to turn away from their God, and some kings caused them to return. 1 Sam 8:5 and they said to him, "Behold, you have grown old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint a king for us to judge us like all the nations." Is 1:3 "An ox knows its owner, And a donkey its master's manger, But Israel does not know, My people do not understand." wordoer |

50 | Was this promise fulfilled? | Josh 1:4 | wordoer | 148611

51 | Was this promise fulfilled? | Josh 1:4 | wordoer | 148624
Greetings kalos, Josh 23:14 "Now behold, today I am going the way of all the earth, and you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one word of all the good words which the LORD your God spoke concerning you has failed; all have been fulfilled for you, not one of them has failed. Josh 23:15 "It shall come about that just as all the good words which the LORD your God spoke to you have come upon you, so the LORD will bring upon you all the threats, until He has destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you. It really sounds like He kept all His promises, I would have to question your reliable sources in light of the scripture. Rom 3:4 May it never be! Rather, let God be found true, though every man be found a liar, as it is written, "THAT YOU MAY BE JUSTIFIED IN YOUR WORDS, AND PREVAIL WHEN YOU ARE JUDGED." In the blessed name of Jesus Christ, wordoer |

52 | Lying justified? | Josh 2:5 | wordoer | 225067
Hello Just Read Mark, I think of the Hebrew midwives. They were directed to kill the male children of the Israelites by the King. Ex 1:15 Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other was named Puah; Ex 1:16 and he said, "When you are helping the Hebrew women to give birth and see them upon the birthstool, if it is a son, then you shall put him to death; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live." 2 Ex 1:17 But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt had commanded them, but let the boys live. 3 Ex 1:18 So the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them, "Why have you done this thing, and let the boys live?" (the lie) Ex 1:19 The midwives said to Pharaoh, "Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife can get to them." 5 Ex 1:20 So God was good to the midwives, and the people multiplied, and became very mighty. 6 Ex 1:21 Because the midwives feared God, He established households for them. Sounds like they lied, and God blessed themby establishing houses for them, They feared God, and He blessed them for it. We are under no obligation to do something detrimental to our own flesh. I guess the question is, "what did they fear of God, as opposed to the kings directive?" Was it, "Thou shalt not kill". What was Pharoah commanding? Thank you, wordoer |

53 | Seventy half brothers or 69? | Judg 9:5 | wordoer | 51568
Hello SisterM, I am using an NAS reference Bible to get this information and my memory. According to Judges 8:30 Gideon/Jerubaal had 70 sons who were "direct descendants". In verse 31, Abimelech was the product of his Shechemite (Caananite) concubine (this is in addition to the 70 direct descendants). Every instance in chapter 9 where the seventy brothers are refered to, references back to Judges 8:30 (those direct descendants). In Judges 9:2, they are inquiring about the seventy ruling over them or rather one man (Abimelech),in verse 4 they gave Abimelech seventy pieces of silver (ref. to Duet. 27:25, a bribe to strike down an innocent person, ( this is the "violence" refered to in Judges 9:24) So their intention was to kill all seventy brothers. The word "killed" in verse 5 is very interestingly referenced to 2 Kings 11:1,2. Which speaks of Joash being stole away and hidden when the kings sons were being put to death. And so Jotham escaped and was hid in Judges 9:5. I conclude that 69 of the brothers were killed. I also reason that their "intention" to kill the seventy brothers, was just as bad as commiting the act, 1 John 3:15. I hope this helps you, wordoer |

55 | Bible passage sins of few passed to all? | 2 Sam 24:10 | wordoer | 189951
Hello oscardog, I don't know that a passage actually states it in that manner, But the principle does exist in the Holy Writ. The following is one example. 2 Sam 24:10 Now David's heart troubled him after he had numbered the people. So David said to the LORD, "I have sinned greatly in what I have done. But now, O LORD, please take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have acted very foolishly." 11 When David arose in the morning, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying, 12 "Go and speak to David, 'Thus the LORD says, "I am offering you three things; choose for yourself one of them, which I will do to you.""' 13 So Gad came to David and told him, and said to him, "Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days' pestilence in your land? Now consider and see what answer I shall return to Him who sent me." 14 Then David said to Gad, "I am in great distress. Let us now fall into the hand of the LORD for His mercies are great, but do not let me fall into the hand of man." 15 So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning until the appointed time, and seventy thousand men of the people from Dan to Beersheba died. 16 When the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD relented from the calamity and said to the angel who destroyed the people, "It is enough! Now relax your hand!" And the angel of the LORD was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. 17 Then David spoke to the LORD when he saw the angel who was striking down the people, and said, "Behold, it is I who have sinned, and it is I who have done wrong; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let Your hand be against me and against my father's house." I hope this helps, wordoer |

57 | Hezekiah's invitations? | 2 Chronicles | wordoer | 76880
Hello CMOORE, It appears at first hearing the proclamation, they laughed the messengers to scorn and mocked them, I was just thinking on this and what a stupid response that was considering what the King had said to them, that the Lord would have compassion on their sons and brothers- how kind that would have been for them to entreat the Lord that those taken captive might return to possess their land (2Chronicles 30:6-9). This proclamation came to them shortly after Sennacherib King of Assyria had conquered the Northern kingdom and deported their fathers and brothers out of the land, the scripture goes on to say in verse 11 of Chapter 30, 2 Chronicles, “Nevertheless, some men of Asher, Manasseh, and Zebulun humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem”. I am thinking it was a small number of men that came, considering that the nation was made up of ten tribes of Israel, and only some men of these three tribes came. In further answering your question concerning the response of the Northern Kingdom, technically it was not a kingdom anymore, In fulfillment of the prophesy made in Hosea 1:4 (He says He will put an end to the kingdom, but not the house of Israel). (Scripture also indicates He divorced the House of Israel and that they were dispersed), which was the Northern Kingdom of Israel, they were His people, then they were not His people, they would later be called sons of the Living God, are these Christians?), also verses 9-10. The Southern Kingdom of Judah, I believe was being obedient to their King in his desire to turn the wrath of the Lord (which they had seen with their own eyes v.8) away from Judah and Jerusalem, 2Chronicles 29:10. wordoer |

58 | 2 Chronicles 7:14 | 2 Chr 7:14 | wordoer | 88282
Hello Kahari, I believe it means these people will literally be "called by His name", And yes , it is saying they would be named after God. I believe the name is "Christian"! I tried to look up the suffix "-ian", I was referred to, "-an", which means "of", or "belonging to". Of or, belonging to who, belonging to Christ, or "Christ I belong to". A powerful statement is made when one professes they are Christian. Let us be worthy of our calling and humble ourselves before the Living God, seek His face and turn from our wicked ways. wordoer |
