61 | Thief on Cross discrepancy Mt vs Lk | Matt 27:44 | wordoer | 107868
Hello Xenoid, I wanted to answer you sooner but I could not remember where I had come across the information relating to your question, It happens this evening, I open “Bullinger's Companion Bible”, and there it is in the Appendixes (page 187), Appendix number “164”. In my opinion, (for whatever that is worth), it gives a very detailed account of the discrepancies and possible solution, along with word studies and history, concerning the “others” crucified with our Lord. I hope you find the information helpful, wordoer |

62 | lawful on the sabbath days to do good | Deut 5:14 | wordoer | 105000
Hello New Creature, you ask; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?" My answer is; It is lawful to do good, not to do evil, Never is it lawful to do evil. Saving life would be my preference and according to scripture as well (as if my preference would matter). Mark 3:4 And He *said to them, "Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath, to save a life or to kill?" But they kept silent. I won't keep silent, I'll tell you straight. Mark 3:2 They were watching Him to see if He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him. I don't know how you have come to think that I would not want someone to be healed. But the Pharisees were looking to accuse Jesus. Mark 3:6 The Pharisees went out and immediately began conspiring with the Herodians against Him, as to how they might destroy Him. They set out to destroy Him because He did good? This is the Pharisees mindset, they would rather see someone suffer, They had no compassion on this afflicted man. Never should a Christian desire to see someone suffer. The point of my answer was to have a day of rest. Work six days and rest on the seventh. As far a Doctors and nurses, do they heal on the Sabbath? or are they making a living off of the suffering of others? It is something to think about. If this is the case, I am not very appreciative of it. I would rather the sick and afflicted humble themselves before the Great Physician, so they might be truly healed. Thank you for the opportunity to clarify my position on this important subject, wordoer |

63 | Why Is Leviticus11 Ignored by Christians | Rom 10:4 | wordoer | 104864
Hello TomBrooklyn, 2 Cor 3:15 But to this day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their heart; I believe it is because “Christians” have been taught that the Law has been done away with, and we are under grace, ( I guess many think, so that sin may abound). Deuteronomy was the second giving of the Law, and the teaching of clean and unclean animals is included. John 3:4, should clarify this point. The accusation against the priests in Ezek 22:26"Her priests have done violence to My law and have profaned My holy things; they have made no distinction between the holy and the profane, and they have not taught the difference between the unclean and the clean; and they hide their eyes from My Sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. Is this being taught in churches? You may never hear this read in a church. I would also maintain that what the Apostles were teaching and instructing the people in the early church was the writings known as the Old Testament, all that is contained in the New Testament was not even in a format for all the people to read until much later, I don’t know how they would have had any converts, teaching contrary to the older writings, (they may have convinced the Thessalonians but their teachings certainly would not have been accepted by the Bereans) for this is what was being read in the churches. Acts 15:21"For Moses from ancient generations has in every city those who preach him, since he is read in the synagogues every Sabbath." But, today most of the people think the New Testament is different in the sense of it’s teachings than the Old Testament. They think that God changes, When 1 Sam 15:29 says, "Also the Glory of Israel will not lie or change His mind; for He is not a man that He should change His mind." Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Peter speaking of Paul, 2 Pet 3:16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. In Acts chapter 10, some say that this teaches that unclean animals are cleansed, when I read it, it says Peter had a vision which he did not understand, Of all sorts of creatures (The text shows that all manner of beasts, that would include clean animals and unclean animals), to which Peter replied in Acts 10:14 But Peter said, "By no means, Lord, for I have never eaten anything unholy and unclean." In this vision the Lord spoke to Peter about the men He was sending, Acts 10:17 Now while Peter was greatly perplexed in mind as to what the vision which he had seen might be, behold, the men who had been sent by Cornelius, having asked directions for Simon's house, appeared at the gate; The Lord told him not to have any misgivings about going with them; Peter considered these men to be unclean, because they had in former times been rejected by God, they were not His people, therefore unclean. Hosea chapter 1 Acts 10:28 And he said to them, "You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a man who is a Jew to associate with a foreigner or to visit him; and yet God has shown me that I should not call any man unholy or unclean. I think it says “any man”. How have unclean animals been cleansed? Is this what Jesus died for, that we might eat swines flesh? I doubt it! These are some of the reasons I believe some Christians don’t follow the law as it is given, and that they have been taught not to. Even those that study this subject refuse to harmonize the scriptures, But hold the New Testament scriptures up in an effort to mute the Law. Hos 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. Good day to you, wordoer |

65 | work on Sundays | Deut 5:14 | wordoer | 104859
Hello bobnstar, I would not say that it is in violation of God's law to work on Sunday, because it is hard to determine which day is the Sabbath. He doesn't say don't work on Sunday. I believe a good rule for today is to work six days and rest on the seventh, that is mentioned often. We should do the best we can, if your seventh day doesn't line up with everyone elses, I wouldn't debate it, allow the Lord to direct your steps. I do believe you should take one day in seven to rest. That seems to be sufficient for God, or he would not have said it. I believe we will know which day is the Sabbath as we grow closer to our Lord, He will reveal it, and we will with one mind keep that prescribed day, of one accord. I think it is interesting the way God determines as a day, look at Gen 1:5, God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day. , It seems to start at noon ( beginning of evening) and ends at noon (at the end of the morning). I hope this helps you, wordoer |

66 | It isn't right to eat pig is it? | 1 Tim 4:4 | wordoer | 104301
Hello Steve, I believe that you already have a preconceived notion and are reading something into these verses; maybe it is because you think "unclean animals" are for "food". I cannot get around the teaching in Lev.11 and Deut.14, of which animals are clean (for food) and unclean (not for food). It reads so plainly that we are not to eat unclean animals. It seems that Sissy is at this point also; further study may be of benefit to others on the forum. For me it is going to far to assume that unclean animals are clean, without scripture to back it up. I only ask that you please refrain from using confusing terminology, I don't know what "ceremonially clean food" is, it only appears that you are trying to reclassify what God in His Word has already classified. The only hurdle for me in continuing this discussion is this question that needs to be addressed first and foremost, Where does the Word of God teach "unclean animals" are for "food"? Paul said we (I think Christians) are destroying speculation and taking every thought captive, we need to take these thoughts captive and examine them to come to the truth. 2 Cor 10:5 We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, Please look at this part of your closing statement; "Eating pork (or rattlesnake, or shrimp) can't make a believer unclean because there are no unclean foods." You are giving examples of what the Bible has classified as "unclean animals" and then saying there are no "unclean foods". To say the least it is confusing. I would agree that there are no unclean foods. What leads you to believe there are no unclean animals? We should look at this with humility and be willing to examine these things to find the truth. I only want to search out the truth, and if it is not the truth it is a lie. If you do not wish to answer my questions I will understand that. Please only reply if you wish to study this further ( I have asked two questions in this post and I would like answers), you may see something in scripture that I don’t, please enlighten me. I would rather study it out to see what is so. I am hoping I may even learn something. I hope this is a help to you and others as well, wordoer |

67 | It isn't right to eat pig is it? | 1 Tim 4:4 | wordoer | 103800
Hello Makarios, You ask how would I handle these passages; "And He said to them, "Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him, because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?" (Thus He declared all foods clean.)" Matthew 7:18-19 [NASB] I would handle it with care, to be true to the Word and be in the context of the whole of scripture, by taking all of scripture. Ps 119:160 The sum of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting. Shin. It is hard to deny what is taught in Lev. 11, and Deut. 14, you can't twist it any way to make it say that God allows for His people to eat unclean animals. As I stated with the reference I gave, it does no violence to the Word of God. Nor will this explanation do violence to God's word. It makes it easier for me to find if you give the correct location of the verse! Mark 7:18 And He *said to them, "Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him, Mark 7:19 because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?" (Thus He declared all foods clean.) I don't know what the problem is really, This has nothing to do with unclean animals. I'll do the best I can in explaining it, since you think it is pertinent. This scripture comes after the Pharisees have asked Jesus why His Disciples are not following the tradition of the elders, the washing of hands, Jesus called them hypocrites, neglecting the commandment of God to hold to the traditions. So The problem for the Pharisees was that the Disciples were not going through all the ritual prescribed by the "tradition of the elders" ( which are not Biblical writings), that apparently teach that a man would be defiled if he didn't do the ritual proper. The add on in parenthesis stating all foods to be clean, I would have to agree with because I stated before that the clean animals were for "food" and the unclean animals were not for "food". Are you having trouble understanding this? "Eat anything that is sold in the meat market without asking questions for conscience' sake; FOR THE EARTH IS THE LORD'S, AND ALL IT CONTAINS." 1 Corinthians 10:25-26 Again this is out of context, you would have to assume "swines flesh", was being sold in the meat market, for this to have any relevance. In context, the scripture is dealing with "meat" sacrificed to idols, and not to offend another by eating it. There were a lot of superstitious people back then, just like today. You say: "Therefore, we can eat pig, pork or any kind of meat without believing that we are in some way "violating" Leviticus 11." You are saying that "swines flesh" is for food, and that would not be violating Lev.11,and Deut.14? That sounds double-minded to me. I also noticed you did not mention 1Timothy chapter 4, Do you agree with me on the points I made previously concerning those verses? wordoer |

68 | It isn't right to eat pig is it? | 1 Tim 4:4 | wordoer | 103793
Hello Sissy, You are correct, It is not right to eat pig, I prefer to use the Biblical terminology “swines flesh” I would say they think they know something you don't, But you seem wiser than they, because you believe what you read from God's word, It reads very plainly in Lev. 11, and Deut.14, doesn't it? You would do well to not eat unclean animals. It is in the Law of God. If you do a little study into these filthy, detestable beasts, you will find out that they are a walking garbage disposal that God created to clean up the earth of dead and rotting flesh, among other filth and garbage, and not created to be consumed as food, (therefore their purpose is good, although not as food). They also carry a parasite know as trichinosis, which can if ingested, cause much damage to your body, I wouldn’t even want to take a chance on getting any of that. Here is a scripture I like to point out, Ezek 22:26 "Her priests have done violence to My law and have profaned My holy things; they have made no distinction between the holy and the profane, and they have not taught the difference between the unclean and the clean; and they hide their eyes from My sabbaths, and I am profaned among them..." Violence is done to the Law, by stating it is no longer valid, and is it not amazing that there is nothing new under the sun, the priests continue to neglect teaching the difference between the clean and the unclean. Jesus said in Matt 5:17, "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. Don't even think He came to abolish the law! I would have to agree with EdB on one thing and that is that Paul answers the question for me as well, I really like the scripture this post is listed under, this is one that many use to give hearty approval to eating unclean animals, when in fact it says exactly the opposite. In 1Tim. 4:5 , Paul states that it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer, “sanctified” means, “set apart”, Please also note in verse 3 he is speaking of “foods”, It doesn’t take to much study to find out what has been set apart for food ( to be received) and what has been set apart as not for food ( to be abhorred) in God’s word. Understanding it in this manner does no violence to God's Word, it is in harmony with the Old Testament. Another warning is found in Is 66:17"Those who sanctify and purify themselves to go to the gardens, Following one in the center, Who eat swine's flesh, detestable things and mice, Will come to an end altogether," declares the LORD. There are a lot of sick people in the world that have been eating things that they should not have been eating. This may be why some have chosen to eat unclean animals in moderation, rather than believing God's Word and obeying the Law. God offers life, health and a blessing for keeping His Word, and death and a curse for turning away our ears from His Law. Ex 23:2 "You shall not follow the masses in doing evil, nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after a multitude in order to pervert justice;..." I hope this helps you in your understanding, wordoer |

72 | Why did Adam grow old? | Gen 5:5 | wordoer | 100952
Hello Ken hepting, Of course I believe Adam would have grown old irregardless of his sin, as time passes, at each circuit of the earth around the sun, you accumulate years to your life, No different than Adam. The thing about Adam that I find interesting is that God told them in the day they ate of the fruit they would die. Gen 2:17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die." No one has ever lived past that mark of a "day". 2 Pet 3:8 But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. Gen 5:5 So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years, and he died. Did he not die in that day? Death was a promise, but not a reality before Adam sinned. What thinkest thou? wordoer |

73 | how to treat these people? | Prov 20:19 | wordoer | 99833
Hello BNBRIONES, Prov 20:19 He who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets, Therefore do not associate with a gossip. That is very clear, I know sometimes it is hard to get away from these people, you may have to work with them or they may be around you in your daily activities, I have developed an answer for them when they bring gossip to me. When I have someone come to me to gossip about someone, rather than saying, "Really" and having them continue, I usually ask them if they have said anything to the person of whom they are speaking about the issue they are bringing up, or I tell them how I have had a problem with something similar and what they think of MY shortcomings or If they are being double-minded, I ask them about their own similar or related problem, usually it is whatever comes to me at that moment. You would be suprised how this repels these people. A change has to start somewhere and where would be better than with Christians being a light unto others, showing others by example how gossipers ought to be treated, I mean rejected. This really doesn't stop them from gossiping, But you separate yourself from them (not associating with them). When others see you around these people they associate you with them, I believe that is why the Lord would have us separate from them, It makes "Him" look bad. Prov 11:13 He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets, But he who is trustworthy conceals a matter. Jer 6:28 All of them are stubbornly rebellious, Going about as a talebearer. They are bronze and iron; They, all of them, are corrupt. I have noticed that a large majority of people I know and others I've observed are gossips. The scripture also describes these people as malicious gossips, You even stated how you had been hurt by them. There are plenty of things to talk about, that would be good and edifiying to others, rather than to tell disgusting stories about what your neighbor is doing, has done, or outright lying. 2 Tim 3:3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good,.. Two things I can't figure out one is why you have respect for malicious gossips? The other is calling them your "friends", you have heard "with friends like this who needs enemies". One of the definitions I found for "associate" means to connect in the mind. You don't want to be of the same mind as these people. It also means to join together with, To unite in company; to keep company, implying intimacy; as, congenial minds are disposed to associate. I think you are on the right track by not seeking to join their company. In my job, I have to work with these people, so if they need my help in doing a job related task I am there to help them, beyond that I do not congregate or associate with them. I hope this helps you, wordoer |

74 | origin of standard marital vows | Ex 24:7 | wordoer | 96145
Hello mamere17, I think the principle is in scripture, it is not the same wording ,But I think the principles apply. I have been intending on doing a more thorough study on the subject, I hope this will suffice. Concerning, "for richer and poorer", I would relate that to when Israel was prosperous they would turn their back on God and go whoring after other gods. "in sickness and in health", The Lord said "I will never leave you or forsake you", which I would say applies here. "forsaking all others", The Lord said, "thou shalt have no other gods before Me" Exodus 20:3. "til death do you part", I believe the scripture uses the term, "all the days of your life" I believe the vows are scriptural in nature. After all, God is the one who gave us this institution of marriage, He married (entered into a covenant relationship with) Israel at Mount Sinai. Ex 24:7 Then he took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people; and they said, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient!". And there is "obey", his woman Israel, said that. hope that helps you, wordoer |

75 | how do i fast and pray? | Matt 17:21 | wordoer | 94655
Hello bttr007, What you would do is to not eat any food, and only drink pure water, and plenty of it. If you have never done this before you can start out easy by just not eating one or two meals on a given day. Then on your next try you can work your way up to a whole day. I actually believe that fasting intensifies your prayers. That may be why Jesus said that these come out only with fasting and prayer, Matthew 17:21. I believe fasting also has a healing effect on the body, If you are interested in the healing aspect, you should read, "Fasting and eating for Health" It really helped me in my understanding of fasting, ISBN # 0-312-13071-6. As far as prayer goes, the scripture is full of references and examples of prayer, like David's entreating of the Lord in the Psalms. Matt 21:22 "And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive." John 15:7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. For those of you with health issues, I would suggest you take them to the Great Physician. I hope this helps, wordoer |

76 | is it wrong to date or marry outside of | Deut 7:3 | wordoer | 94408
Hello SD100702, There are examples in scripture where Israel was told not to intermarry with those of other nations and not to give their daughters and sons to them marriage. They didn't always listen and it caused them many problems, for they sinned against their God. Here are some of the scriptures, Gen. 34:9, Deut. 7:3, Josh. 23:12, Ezra 9:14. You can also search key words at the "Get Bible Text" window to the right. There is plenty on the subject in scripture. Ezra and Nehemiah tell of how the men sinned and took foriegn wives, Ezra 10, and how men of God made a change and had those men put away those whom they intermarried with. God doesn't change, Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Ex 24:12 Now the LORD said to Moses, "Come up to Me on the mountain and remain there, and I will give you the stone tablets with the law and the commandment which I have written for their instruction." Deut 7:3 "Furthermore, you shall not intermarry with them; you shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor shall you take their daughters for your sons. 2 Rom 15:4 For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. 1 Cor 10:11 Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. You can also read about Balak and Balaam, in Numbers chapters 22-25. Num 31:16 "Behold, these caused the sons of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, so the plague was among the congregation of the LORD. When you read this you can see how Israel was enticed to sin and God's wrath came upon them in a plague, which Phineas put an end to. This should get you started and I hope they help, wordoer |

77 | SHOULD CHRISTIANS EAT PORK AND SEAFOOD? | Ezek 22:26 | wordoer | 92613
Hello LORRAINBOW, It is argued against ( by lovers of swines flesh and broth of abominable beasts), that God somehow changed His Law. But, we really should not be eating what the Lord has told Israel is unclean for His people. He is holy so shall we be holy, His representatives here on earth. If you go back and look at Lev. 11 and Duet. 14, it does not call those unclean things food. They shall however be detestable and abhorrent to you. This is the mind of God, what God thinks of these things, and He is instructing His people very clearly. Lev. 11:24 starts out saying "By these, moreover you will be made unclean:..", speaking of the unclean animals. This was also an accusation God had against the priests, that they did not teach the difference between the holy and the profane. Ezek 22:26"Her priests have done violence to My law and have profaned My holy things; they have made no distinction between the holy and the profane, and they have not taught the difference between the unclean and the clean; and they hide their eyes from My sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. Have you heard anything from the church pulpits about the difference between the clean and unclean? Is 66:17 “Those who sanctify and purify themselves to go to the gardens, Following one in the center, Who eat swine's flesh, detestable things and mice, Will come to an end altogether," declares the LORD. also see, Is 65:4. He says these will come to an end , not that He will change the law and do away with clean and unclean. Is 9:16 For those who guide this people are leading them astray; And those who are guided by them are brought to confusion. It is violence to the Law to say and teach the Law is done away with. In the New Testament, it seems as if Jesus Himself speaks this Law out of existence , remember to harmonize the scriptures, God is not the author of confusion. To do away with the Law was not Jesus’ purpose, He says in Matt 5:17 Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. If you study out these scriptures in the New Testament (that many use to give hearty approval to eat unclean animals) you will find they are being used out of context. In the case of Matthew 15 in verse 2 the Pharisees were complaining because His disciples were not following the tradition of washing of hands, and all that is discussed down to verse 20 of that chapter was in reference to this washing of hands subject, and having nothing to do with eating unclean animals. Matt 15:20 "These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man." The Pharisees were saying they were being defiled by not washing their hands, Not because they were eating pork, had there been any confusion about that He would have directed them to the Law as He did in other instances. wordoer |

Hello Kahari, I believe it means these people will literally be "called by His name", And yes , it is saying they would be named after God. I believe the name is "Christian"! I tried to look up the suffix "-ian", I was referred to, "-an", which means "of", or "belonging to". Of or, belonging to who, belonging to Christ, or "Christ I belong to". A powerful statement is made when one professes they are Christian. Let us be worthy of our calling and humble ourselves before the Living God, seek His face and turn from our wicked ways. wordoer |
