42 | Purpose Driven Life? | Bible general Archive 2 | inmyheart | 101409
The Purpose Driven Life answers life's question, What on earth am I here for?. For Forty days the Church breaks down to small cell groups (10-15 people) and studies what God says in the Bible about our purpose of why we are here, such as: Purpose 1: You were planned for God's Pleasure. Purpose 2: You were formed for God's Family. Purpose 3: You were created to become life Christ. Purpose 4: You were shaped for serving God. Purpose 5: You were made for a mission. Most people struggle with three basic issues in life. The first is identity: "Whom am I?" The second is importance: "Do I matter?" The third is impact: "What is my place in life?" The answers to all three questions are found in God's five purposes for you. In the Upper Room, as Jesus was concluding His last day of ministry with His disciples, He washed their feet as an example and said, "now that you know these things, you will be bless if you do them." (John 13:17 NIV) Once you know what God wants you to do, the blessing comes in actually doing it. As we come the the end of our forty-day journey together, now that you know God's purpose for your life, you will be blessed if you "do" them! The cell groups remain together after the forty days studying God's Word. The Testimonies of how a persons life has changed are awesome. Pastor Rick Warren is the Pastor of Saddleback Church in Irvine, Ca. I personally had the pleasure of visiting this Church, and believe me this Church is not about money, it's about JESUS! 46 | Is "slain in the Spirit" biblical? | Matt 16:6 | inmyheart | 90706
In 1988, an ORU student named D.R. McConnell published a thesis on the Word of Faith movement that would shock the Christian world (or at least the Christians in America). The title of this book was A Different Gospel. Supposedly, this book revealed the shocking "truth" concerning the origin of the teachings of Essek William Kenyon. This book supposedly revealed that Kenyon's teachings were not influenced by divine revelation or Evangelical Christianity, but by Christian Science and other Metaphysical influences. The premise of the book was this: First prove that E.W. Kenyon had metaphysical and cultic influences in his writings and teachings. Then show that well known Faith teacher, Kenneth Hagin Sr., whom so many believed was the father of the modern day faith movement, to have plagiarized Kenyon's writings. If you can do that then you have made Kenyon the true father of the modern day faith movement. By making Kenyon the true father of the modern day faith movement, you can then prove that the whole movement is cultic and heretical. This book was a great weapon in the hands of those who already had a bone to pick with the modern day faith teachers. Now they had research and scholarship on their side. This book was considered to be THE book to reference if one desired to receive accurate information on this movement. That is, until Hendrik Hanegraaf came out with his landmark book, Christianity In Crisis. Now those who opposed this movement had two weapons in their hands to confront those smart aleck, cocky Word of Faith people. I will only quote from one more source. Dr. Frederick K.C. Price, the pastor of Crenshaw Christian Center in California has also suffered false accusations and misunderstandings from the critics of the faith movement. However, in his book, How Faith Works, Dr. Price took the time to explain the differences between Bible faith and the teaching of cults such as Christian Science. Dr. Price relates in his book about a battle he had with a tumor on his chest. He went though surgery to have it removed but some of it had already spread and started growing back. He decided this time to stand on the Bible and trust God for his healing. Dr. Price began quoting Matthew 8:17 and 1 Peter 2:24 to himself.. He went through some trials as the tumor seemingly got worse. Nevertheless, Dr. Price continued declaring God's Word. Eventually his faith was rewarded (Heb. 11:6). During the testimony, which is in much more detail in his book than what I have related, Dr. Price said this: I never went around saying I didn't hurt when in fact I did hurt. If you do that you're getting over into the realm of Christian Science and the mind science religions. You're saying the thing doesn't exist. I've never said it wasn't there. I never said the thing wasn't hurting. I didn't say anything about it at all. I ignored it. I only talked about what I believed. And I said, "I believe that I am well. I believe that I am healed." I did believe because the Word of the Lord said to believe that I receive and I'd have it. This book was first written in 1976, long before the accusations that have been leveled against the faith teachers. I personally believe that the critics of faith teaching were on an agenda, one which was not from God. God bless |

HEALING IN THE ATONEMENT Even in our world of advanced medical technologies, there are many diseased individuals living all around us. Many of them suffer constant pain, and some of them do not have the ability to even perform the most ordinary tasks. There are others who endure lesser sicknesses, but the pain and inconvenience are just as real. It is natural for the Christian to ask whether God has provided any relief for such individuals. Some say that God decides whom he may heal on a case-by-case basis, that he may heal some but not others, and that he has good reasons for doing so in each instance. I will argue that according to the Scriptures, it is God’s desire for every Christian to be healthy. I base this assertion on what the Bible reveals to us concerning the nature of God and the atoning work of Christ. I will show that these two elements are the basis for faith in receiving healing. The Source and Origin of Sickness. In a very real sense, all sickness began because of sin. Physical death itself had started because of the sin of Adam: "Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned" (Romans 5:12). Many individual instances of sickness had occurred since then as a direct result of specific sins. For example, after having healed a man who "had been an invalid for thirty-eight years" (John 5:5), Jesus said to him, "See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you" (John 5:14). Although sickness itself had started due to Adam’s transgression, this is not to say that every instance of sickness is due to a specific sin that the individual has committed. In John 9, when Jesus and his disciples came across a man blind from birth, the disciples asked, "Who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" (v. 2). Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned" (v. 3). In other words, not every instance of sickness can be traced back to a particular sin. However, even if a particular instance of sickness is the direct result of a sin that one has committed, the word of God says that there is forgiveness for such a one. James 5:15 says, "The prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven." We should be careful before determining the spiritual reasons for someone’s sickness. There are a number of reasons and it may not be a sin, so do not judge a person base on limited and inaccurate information. The person may not have sinned. He may have contracted the sickness and allow it to remain due to lack of wisdom or ignorance of the Scriptures, or some other reasons. God bless |

"F.P. prayed over him, then informed me that my boy's healing would progress as my faith grew. That annoyed me, and I've since discovered the falsity of that presumption." Fred Price made a true statement, why didn't you pray for your sons healing? You went to F.P's service and you come out pointing fingers! You don't mention if your son ever received his healing, did he? God bless Phil.4:8 |

NO! Christ is that foundation, He is Life. Jesus not only says the way to the Father is by Him, but He is the Life in which He modeled for us to live(John 14:6). Also read 2Peter 2:2. God bless |

54 | How long did Adam and Eve live in Eden? | Gen 3:23 | inmyheart | 89443
We don't know how long Adam and Eve were in the Garden before they had to leave. Sadly, it doesn't seem like they were there for long. There are two clues. First, God commanded them to "be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth" (Genesis 1:28). This means they were to start having a family as soon as possible. And second, we don't read anything about the children of Adam and Eve until after they have left the Garden (Genesis 4:1-2). It takes about nine months for a human baby to develop. So they might have lived in the Garden for less than a year! The rest of the Bible is about God's wanting to get us back. He wants to be able to walk and talk with us just as He did with Adam and Eve in those wonderful days before sin came into the world. Our new home won't be the old Garden of Eden, because that was destroyed in the Flood. Instead, we can look forward to being in heaven where we can live with God forever (Revelation 22:1-5). God Bless |

57 | Look to Jesus not problems, be healed! | John 3:14 | inmyheart | 88645
The Scriptures reveal to us that physical healing has been provided for the believer through the atoning work of Christ; however, there are those who reject this view and contend that it is not God's will to heal everyone, even those who come to Him in faith. One argument these people use is that the apostle Paul himself had suffered numerous illnesses, implying that if such a one as the apostle Paul failed to receive healing, then it is only normal for many ordinary believers to remain ill. If it was not God's will to heal the apostle Paul, then it may not be God's will to heal us. I will present some of the biblical passages often used to "prove" that Paul was a sick man. I will argue that these passages in fact demonstrate the tremendous healing power of God at work in Paul's life. His life and experiences provide us with reasons to believe God for healing, not the other way around. Paul's infirmities. "Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first. And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus. Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it has been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me" (Galatians 4:13-15). This biblical passage is often quoted as a proof that Paul was sick and that healing is not for everyone (or for nobody at all). Even if Paul was sick (which he was not, as we shall see), that does not prove anything about God's will in the area of healing until we also take into the account the direct statements in the Bible concerning healing. Abraham, David, Solomon, and other righteous characters in the Bible had more than one wife, and from these examples, some have concluded that God allows a man to have more than one wife at the same time. However, when we take into account the direct statements from the Bible (as oppose to the implications derived from people's actions and experiences), we understand that God's will is for a man to have only one wife. In the same way, Paul's experiences prove nothing unless it is consistent with the direct statements of the Bible. Verse 13 says, "ye know how through the infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first." Paul visited Galatia "at the first" in Acts 14. The Bible says Paul went into Antioch, Iconium, Lystra, and Derbe. The province of Galatia contained Pisidia and Lycaonia, and therefore the towns of Antioch, Iconium, Lystra, and Derbe. So Paul first visited Galatia in Acts 14. What happened to Paul in Acts 14? He was stoned: "And there came thither, certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he has been dead." In those days, they dug holes in the ground outside of the city. Whenever they were to stone someone, they would push the victim into the hole. Then, a crowd would gather around the hole and throw big rocks at the person's head, until they were certain that it was completely crushed. From biblical evidence, it seems that Paul was actually dead. The timing would be about 14 years before he was to write 2 Corinthians, which would make Acts 14 the time when he died and temporarily went to heaven to see the visions mentioned in 2 Corinthians 12:2-4. Then what happened? God raised Paul from the dead right on the spot and Paul marched right back into the same city! This is why Paul had an "infirmity of the flesh" – His skull had been crushed and he was walking around looking like that. So, instead of disproving the biblical teaching on healing, this passage in Galatians demonstrates God's supernatural healing and resurrection power. Paul was walking around supernaturally with this and many other injuries. Priase God! |

59 | Functions of the Body of Christ | Bible general Archive 1 | inmyheart | 87074
The Bible describes discipleship as much broader and deeper than the "discipleship" that is often practiced today. Jesus specified in Matthew 28:19-20 that His disciples were to "… go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded." Jesus made it clear that, in addition to presenting the Gospel, making disciples includes teaching believers to observe all that He taught about how to live victoriously. The command to disciple includes all aspects of personal ministry to others. As described and practiced by the writers of Scripture, biblical discipleship involves evangelizing, baptizing, teaching, admonishing, instructing, comforting, encouraging, restoring, strengthening, reproving, rebuking, and exhorting others to follow a biblical pattern of life (based on Matthew 28:19-20; Romans 15:14; II Corinthians 1:4; Galatians 6:1; I Thessalonians 3:2; II Timothy 4:2; Hebrews 10:24). Helping someone to face, deal with, and endure even the most serious of problems or circumstances in a manner that pleases God is not a complicated or mysterious process. It is merely a matter of helping him to walk by the Holy Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:16-25). When a person is walking by the Holy Spirit, he has complete victory in dealing with and enduring the tests and trials of life. God bless |

60 | recovery and the bible | Matt 9:12 | inmyheart | 87071
There are many verses of scripture that can be used for addiction, such as Galatians 5:17-20. Are you in recovery? Or are you looking for some encouraging words for a person who is addicted? Please be a little more specific. The Apostle Paul writes: "I do not understand my own behavior; I do not act as I mean to, but I do the things that I hate. Though the will to do what is good is in me, the power to do it is not; the good thing I want to do, I never do; the evil thing which I do not want--that is what I do." Romans 7:14-24. In writing these words, Paul is talking about sin. Theologically, sin is what turns us away from love--away from love for ourselves, away from love for one another, and away from love for God. When I look at this problem psychologically, I see two forces that are responsible: repression and addiction. We all suffer from both repression and addiction. Of the two, repression is by far the milder one. God bless |
