126 | odds of Christ fulfilling every prophecy | Bible general Archive 1 | inmyheart | 79715
What Are the Odds? "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me." Words of Christ, John 14:1 NKJV. The below web site will give the answers you are looking for! A number of years ago, Peter W. Stoner and Robert C. Newman wrote a book entitled Science Speaks. The book was based on the science of probability and vouched for by the American Scientific Affiliation. It set out the odds of any one man in all of history fulfilling even only eight of the 60 major prophecies (and 270 ramifications) fulfilled by the life of Christ. The probability that Jesus of Nazareth could have fulfilled even eight such prophecies would be only 1 in 1017. That's 1 in 100, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000. Stoner claims that that many silver dollars would be enough to cover the face of the entire state of Texas two feet deep. Now I've been to Texas. I've driven for days to get across Texas. Texas is a very big state. Who in his right mind would suppose that a blindfolded man, heading out of Dallas by foot in any direction, would be able, on his very first attempt, to pick up one specifically marked silver dollar out of 100, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000? :) http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/walliancec/theodds.htm God Bless |

127 | What do you think of this great mystery? | NT general Archive 1 | inmyheart | 79575
Hi Ray! He that is joined to the Lord is one spirit (1 Cor. 6: 17). We are united to Christ. And oh, what a revelation it gives us of the nearness and the intimacy into which we are brought with Him! For we are made to know that we are one with Himself, that whatever touches us touches Him (see Acts 9: 4); and therefore that we are inseparably, indissolubly, connected with Himself forever. The same bond, then, that unites us to Christ, unites us also to all believers; for the same Spirit that unites us to Christ has united us also one to another. This is what is meant by "the unity of the Spirit" (Eph. 4: 3); i.e., the unity of all the members of Christ which has been formed on the earth by the Spirit of God. 1 Cor. 12, you will see the wonderful character of our mutual relationships, arising out of our being members one of another. You can read the passage from the 12th to the 27th verse, at your leisure; it is carefully insisted upon that "the body is not one member, but many"; and that every member has its own place in the body. Just some thoughts.... God Bless |

129 | is interacical marriage wrong biblecal | Numbers | inmyheart | 78765
Greetings, In the Old Testament, God commanded the Israelites not to intermarry with people of foreign nations, but we saw that "racial purity" was never the issue. The reason for this command was because the Israelites would turn from God and begin serving foreign gods, which is exactly what happened. In the New Testament, there is only one command concerning whom Christians can marry: A Christian must marry another Christian. When Christian marriages are mentioned in the New Testament, nothing is ever said about Christian husbands and wives being from the same race, the same skin color, the same nation, the same culture, etc. Based on all of this evidence, I don't see anything Scripturally wrong with interracial marriage among Christians. Backslide: to draw back or apostatize in matters of religion ( Act 21:21; 2Th 2:3; 1Ti 4:1). This may be either partial ( Pro 14:14) or complete ( Hbr 6:4-6; 10:38,39). The apostasy may be both doctrinal and moral. God Bless |

134 | Divorce | 1 Thess 4:3 | inmyheart | 77603
AnneDenise, First of all, the divine standard for marriage is lifelong commitment to one's spouse, and nothing else. Even though divorce was permitted in some cases under the Old Testament economy, Christ made it plain that this was not God's ideal. When He was asked this very question, "He answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that He which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." (Matthew 19:4-6). This seems very comprehensive and conclusive, yet He immediately followed up this statement with the following apparent exception: "Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery" (Matthew 19:9; see also Matthew 5:31, 32). It does seem from this statement that the discovery of extramarital unchastity on the part of one' spouse is here given as a possible grounds for divorce. God does place a high value on faithfulness, on the part of both bride and bridegroom, as a basis for a happy and lasting marriage. Fornication is condemned as a sin in both Old and New Testaments. In this day of widespread sexual license, however, this provision might well become a rather common ground for divorce, even among Christians. It does, indeed, dilute the principle of "one flesh" used by God to describe a true marriage. "What? Know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? For two, saith He, shall be one flesh . . . Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body: but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body" (I Corinthians 6:16, 18). This passage, incidentally, suggests that a woman who submits to extramarital sex becomes, in God's sight, a harlot, whether she yields her body for money or some other reason that she sees as profitable to herself. On the other hand, it is noteworthy that Jesus, evidently on a different occasion, did not give fornication as an excuse for divorce. "Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery" (Luke 16:18). If there is any doubt, this also applies to wives. "And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery" (Mark 10:12). Since the Lord would not contradict Himself, we should conclude that, while there may be some situations in which extramarital sex would create such problems in a marriage that divorce would be better than continuing in an unhealthy or even dangerous relationship, in general it would be better to forgive earlier indiscretions (if accompanied by repentance and present faithfulness) rather than to break up what might otherwise still be a good marriage. In both cases, however, Christ warned that remarriage after divorce amounts to adultery, a sin which is explicitly forbidden by God's seventh Commandment. Both divorce and remarriage, therefore, are extremely serious steps, and both violate the divine principle of permanent union and faithfulness in marriage. God bless |

135 | Saved !! | Rom 8:1 | inmyheart | 77602
pete, They quote Scripture about David to support their tradition. Others believe you can be saved, but if you lose your faith and return to your sinful ways, you are lost. These also stand on Scripture. One has to be wrong. God’s Word gives us the answer. Telling a person, "once saved always saved," does not build faith. Only God’s Word can build faith. The following verses are sometimes used by those who say salvation can never be lost. David was saved. He committed murder. He did not lose his salvation, but he did lose the joy of it. God promised David He would not take His mercy away, even if he sinned, as He did take His mercy from Saul. Saul lost his salvation. As we read, AND DAVID SAID UNTO NATHAN, I HAVE SINNED AGAINST THE LORD. AND NATHAN SAID UNTO DAVID, THE LORD ALSO HATH PUT AWAY THY SIN; THOU SHALT NOT DIE-2 Sam 12:13. NEVERTHELESS MY LOVING-KINDNESS WILL I NOT UTTERLY TAKE FROM HIM, NOR SUFFER MY FAITHFULNESS TO FAIL-Ps. 89:33. I WILL GIVE YOU THE SURE MERCIES OF DAVID-Acts 13:34. It is written, I WILL NEVER LEAVE THEE, NOR FORSAKE THEE-Heb 13:5. The question arises, can we forsake God? The answer is yes, and many people have. Jesus cannot divorce us, but we can divorce Him. God bless |

137 | When was genesis written? and by who? | Bible general Archive 1 | inmyheart | 76600
Phil, Actually, there is no clear cut answer to this. Liberal scholars would point to a time about 800 BC, citing stylistic differences and differences in the terms used to refer to God (YHWH vs Elohim), and say that it is actually a compilation by 3 or more individuals. Conservative scholars support the traditional assertion that it was compiled by Moses, citing his level of education, the witness of tradition, and a number of other factors. As for the date of Moses, two different dates have been proposed. One is c. 1200-1400 BC, based, I believe, on the chronology found in the Masoretic text (the Hebrew text edited/assembled by the council of Jamnia c.AD 90?). The other date places him c. 2000 BC based on the chronology found in the Septuagint text (the translation of the Hebrew scriptures into Greek done c. 100 BC). Personally, I would tend to agree with those who hold to a Mosaic authorship. As to the dating, however, I haven't sufficiently researched the matter to form an opinion. I don't believe that the Church has made a definitive statement either way. God bless |

139 | whole armour and significance | Eph 6:13 | inmyheart | 76531
eze, The Helmet of Salvation: The Helmet protects the mind. The Breastplate of Righteousness: The Breastplate protects the heart. The Gird of Truth: The Gird serves two purposes. One, it hold the sword at the ready. Two, it protects your bowels of belief. Shod with the Preparation of the Gospel: The leg and foot armor protects your mobility. During a conflict with the devil, the Helmet, Breastplate, Gird, legging and foot armor will protect the more vulnerable parts of the body. But, there are still places that the darts of the devil can get through to wound you. For these, the shield and the sword are used. The Shield of Faith: The shield is mainly a defensive weapon. You must learn how to use it, for it to be effective. It must always be kept at the ready. Even a small shield, if used properly, is sufficient to protect every open area. However, to protect these areas, one must anticipate where the devil is aiming, (usually, at your greatest weakness), and be ever ready to swiftly move it to resist the next attack. (Putting down your shield, could cost you your life!) The Sword of the Word of God: The sword is mainly a offensive weapon. You must learn how to use it, for it to be effective. To wield this weapon skillfully against the devil, and to discourage his challenges, one must study how it was used by the Master. Each time His sword was drawn, it was swiftly, skillfully, and accurately used to produce the desired effect. Warning: This sword has two edges, and cuts both ways. One must know this weapon well. And constantly Practice, practice, practice! God bless |

Ruth77, Pro 15:21 Folly is joy to him who lacks sense, But a man of understanding walks straight. My testimony was being rebellious, meaning Partying, drinking and using drugs. At the time I was having fun, but now looking back, all I was doing was hurting myself and everyone connected to my life. But thank God for His Grace, I repented of my sins (Rom 3:23). Now the bible says... the thief comes but for to steal, kill and destroy, but Jesus has come that we might have life, and that we might have it more abundantly (John 10:10). I come to find that there was no good in me (Rom.7:18) and the only good that was to come out of me, is what God has put in me (Eph. 2:10)so now I want to please God by doing and knowing His will (Rom. 12:2). One last thought, because I am also learning more and more of God..."Brethern, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, "forgetting those things which are behind", and reaching forth unto those things which are before. Phil.3:13(KJV). God bless you, you have made the best decision of your life. Put all of your life into God's hands, He'll never let you down :) |
