281 | What was the Reformation? | Rom 1:17 | Country Girl | 126018
This subject has been hashed over pretty well on the Forum in the past. Just insert the words, Reformation and Restoration into the QuickSearch. One of the best discussions imo was that involving Kalos, Rowdy and EdB. It started with Post no 122859. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

282 | Where does the Bible SAY that? | Bible general Archive 2 | Country Girl | 126014
I noticed you forgot to quote the whole post or at least the most important portion (in caps below for emphasis). Now, would you please reword your question to this statement? Thanks. Subject: Which one are we not going to keep? Note: I just remembered one more tidbit of explanation. Quoted from your post: Matthew 5:17-19 (ESV) "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. [18] For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, WILL PASS FROM THE LAW UNTIL ALL IS ACCOMPLISHED. Here I would key in on the phrase "until all is accomplished." I've been taught to believe that this was Christ's mission: to come to the earth, live the Perfect Sinless Life and offer His body as a Sacrifice for our sins and take the OT with Him to His Grave. Thus upon accomplishing that great and noble deed, the OT no longer existed as far as God was concerned but Christ's Law of Liberty was executed in accordance with His Last Will and Testament on that day at Pentacost, Acts Chapter 2. So there's another question for you to reconcile with your position. If this is not what Christ meant with that phrase; what WAS to be accomplished and do away with the Law and the Prophets? Blessings to you. Country Girl |

283 | Jews at the Wailing Wall of Jerusalem | Not Specified | Country Girl | 126011
I've been watching some news articles and every once in a while, catch some passing photos and video depicting Jews praying at the famous Wailing Wall of Jerusalem. I realize the name comes from all the grief meted out to the Jews over the centuries with emphasis to their loss as a nation in the first century. Now my question about their body motions there at the wall. Why is it when these Jews pray or read from their scriptures, they rock their heads or their upper torso back and forth? It's always been kinda curious to me but I'm just now remembering to ask those of you that might know. Please enlighten me. Thanks and blessings to you all. Country Girl |

285 | What was the Reformation? | Rom 1:17 | Country Girl | 126001
It seems to me that at least there's always the possibility that the Gospel or God's Word can be "lost" in one way when a whole generation of God's people forget about its basic importance in our lives just like the ways of Judiasm was temporarily forgotten before King Josiah found them in the archives in 2 Ki 22. Jesus emphasizes this point in the parable of the lost coin or the lost prodical son. His main point in both is that they were found. We must always remember, as it's been said before "apostacy can take place in any one generation." It only takes the forgetfulness of mankind which isn't too difficult to imagine, especially if we were to lose all this modern technology due to some world-wide catastrophic event. Blessings to you. 286 | Freewill before the fall? | Gen 2:9 | Country Girl | 126000
I'd have to agree with Mommapbs. Although God does hope to entice us into obeying Him, He certainly does NOT force our hand or our decision. I'm convinced each of us has 100 percent complete and total freedom to choose as we would like. Yes, the fish is forced to live the life of a fish but notice he's free to swim and roam the whole world depending on his species, freshwater or saltwater. In the same regard, yes we humans must live in a finite world and stay here on earth UNLESS we take our own supply of food and oxygen with us. Thus we can choose to make of our life what we like both physically and most especially our spiritual lives. We can choose to live the lifestyle of a chirstian and do the best in following the Bible, OR we can choose to follow any other course like the Devil or just not choose which is really a cop out. Those are the only two choices we have. And of course, God will hold us accountable for our choices. Hope this helps to clarify and Blessings to you. Country Girl |

If I may, I thought I'd take a shot at handling your question. The Bible examples of the church's handling problem really is the best way. When a brother notices a serious "wrinkle" in his brother's or sister's spiritual life, then he/she should approach that person in love and genuine concern for their soul as cited in Matt 18:15-16. Then you know the procedure from there, it gets elevated eventually to the church leadership, preferbly the elders. The most difficult and vital ingredient in this process MUST be the genuine Agape type love and fellowship that must exist between the erring christian and this group of christians. If that love and fellowship doesn't really mean that much either of those parties in this process, then the whole practice of this discipline process breaks down and doesn't work very well. But ultimately it is the responsibility of the eldership of that local congregation to watch out for that group of christians. An eldership has some responsibilities to be kind and INFORM another congregation of a brother that they have disciplined and excluded from the fellowship BUT again ultimately the eldership of that other congregation has its own responsibility to its congregation so we see how important it is to have and maintain elders. That's one of the reasons for so much disunity and lack of growth in the Lord's church in America today is our tendancy to no longer follow the examples and commands as laid out in God's Word. I too am most grateful for your posts to the Forum as you have a keen mind and are so devoted to studying God's Word and to the unity of the Lord's Body. If it's one thing I've learned about human beings, it is that we tend to be reactionary. Our basic instinct is to react to the circumstances and the actions that are placed (mostly by God) in our presence. Very, very rarely do we as humans act in a pro-active state and even rarer still do we act pro-actively in a Godly cause. So what I'm saying the Reformation AND the Restoration were both reactions from great men who saw the inadequacies of their current world and sought to improve upon them. All of us could benefit from the words of Paul by re-reading Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. 3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. Thus we all must resolve to wake up every day, reforming and restoring our soul to re-commit ourselves to living that actual life of sacrifice to our Lord. It takes work, real genuine dedicated work to remember this when the world tempts us...why it even shouts at us "to leave that spiritual stuff behind, come join us and have some fun instead." I appreciate your plea for unity but alas I also know it's a difficult goal to actually reach. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

But then, how do you explain or reconcile Col 2:14 into this position? If the OT was good to go, why do we have the NT? What about all those animal sacrifices and the Levitcal Priesthood? You can't observe and practice Judiasm and Christianity both, can you? If so, how's it done? How come Hebrews puts the superiority of Christianity so far over that of Judiasm? I'm afraid your position has quite a few problems with it. In contrast, I must admit your citation of verses from Matthew is quite powerful until one remembers that Christ may have been speaking figuratively. I'm thinking when the Romans came in 70 AD and totally destroyed everything, including the temple and all the records of their geneology, it really was like the Lord's destroying their world. It's like as if God was saying "I'm done with you people as a nation. You won't be taking advantage of my love any longer." Anyway, that's how I've reconciled this seeming conflict. What do you think? Blessings to you, dear friend. Country Girl |

I thinking we should comply or obey with all the commands of the NT, including those nine commandments carried over from the OT. Which portion of the NT do you see as disposable? Then again, which portion of the OT do you see that is essential or required of us modern christians? I thought Christ took the old law and its requirements to the cross with him in accordance with Col 2:14. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

I hope that your posted suggestion is made with "tongue in cheek," in jest. I think almost everyone likes to think the world is a better place since most of the developed world at least have access to a copy of the Bible sometime in their lifetime in a language they can understand. We have to remember that along with Christ's main mission of saving the world, he knew the high costs He was demanding for the Christ-like lifestyle would mean division for some folks, even between family members. So there's always going to be controversy in this world, until at least it ends with Judgment Day soon thereafter. Our job as christians here on earth is to glorify God as best we can and spread the Good News of His Son's Gift of Salvation. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

About the best I can do is refer you to the Books of Job and Ecclesiates. There, you'll find some similarly tough questions. The answers are also not easy to dig out or to understand. They both get pretty deep. Good luck or rather God's blessings to you. Country Girl

I have to admit, I'm a little confused by all this posting of 5 statements, 4 of which are identical, posted within a few minutes and then this, the grand summary, all on the Holiness of God. Why all the dramatics? Anyway, in answer to your question. After reading and re-reading God's Word over and over again, we can but say we are the creation, God's vessels of clay and He is the Creator. A person could also ask why did God strike down dead His servant Uzzah for touching the ark to steady it. We could ask why did He let His beloved King David kill such an innocent and noble soldier as Uzziah and let David live after committing adultery with Uzziah's wife. And naturally, the questions Job posed in his book never get answers in spite of Job's living a good life and not ever giving up his faith in God; why was Job abused so badly by Satan and allowed by God? The answer although not pleasant is rather simple. God is the Supreme Being and He does as He likes or dislikes and He really doesn't have to explain Himself or answer any of our silly questions. But we should consider Him completely Holy, worthy of all Praise and Honor. The slightest sin in our lives are like filthy rags to Him and thus we truly are less than worthy to receive the wonderful gift of salvation or Heaven when we die but nevertheless we can all look forward to that goal when we become one of His. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

I've been following all of the posts on this thread as the topic is very interesting but I'm hoping all of you can tackle a somewhat related subject. What do we as modern christians mean when we use the words such as spiritual gifts, speaking in tongues and all other miraculous powers? How do we determine if they're from God or not? What do we use for a standard for that evaluation in today's world? Can we be certain? I'm hoping to get responses from as many of you as possible from the Forum. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

I would like to agree with the overall gist of your message however, I would have to say you didn't go back early enough. It seems to me that the church started to slowly decline and the planting of seeds of apostacy soon after the last Apostle died as Paul predicted. We saw in the Garden of Eden, in the condition of the world just before its destruction and in virtually every large collection (nation) of mankind since then, that we don't have it within ourselves to live up to God's Perfect Standard, as endorsed by His Word, Pr 14:12. Without God's or Jesus' physical presence in our lives, every day, every hour, we just can't adhere to God's Perfect Level of Godliness in our lives, so it was inevitable that the church would go defective as compared to Her Perfect Condition when the Apostles were guiding Her every move. But without that divine Guidance from the Holy Spirit, the church was certainly headed for the apostacy. I'm thinking God knew that all the time. He never meant for mankind or the church to have the benefit of His Son's physical presence in the world. He sent His Son for the primary purpose of saving the world from our sins by dying and manking the Perfect Sacrifice. But Christ's life also set the Perfect Standard for us to follow, mostly by studying His Words, His Deeds and imitating His life in general. That's where God's Grace and Mercy comes in. Where we ALL fail so miserably to make that mark or anywhere even close to that of our Lord, our God and Father covers us with His Love and Mercy. Only by the Grace of God, can any of us ever hope to make it to Heaven. Yes, I must agree there is no one group of people here on earth who have ALL of what it takes to make the perfect church, mainly because there's no one person who can even come close to Christ's standard of imitating God and His amazing Love and Compassion to an Infinite degree. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

300 | Key verse of the Bible? | Bible general Archive 2 | Country Girl | 125645
I'd have to say Jesus provided the correct answer to this question. Mark 12:29 Jesus answered, "The foremost is, 'HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD; Mark 12:30 AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.' Mark 12:31 "The second is this, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' There is no other commandment greater than these." The best part of this scripture is that Jesus gives us the second KEY verse of the Bible, all in the same paragraph and setting. Blessings to you. Country Girl |
