One of the best scriptures I can think of would be Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. 7In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace 8which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth--in Him. 11In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, 12that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. 13In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. I think it might help to remember just how undeserving we really are by reading Is 64:4 For since the beginning of the world Men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, Nor has the eye seen any God besides You, Who acts for the one who waits for Him. 5You meet him who rejoices and does righteousness, Who remembers You in Your ways. You are indeed angry, for we have sinned-- In these ways we continue; And we need to be saved. 6 But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away. 7And there is no one who calls on Your name, Who stirs himself up to take hold of You; For You have hidden Your face from us, And have consumed us because of our iniquities. You see, you and I are used to thinking like humans. Generally, when we go to a court of law, we start thinking of all the reasons why we deserve some form of mercy. But in God's World of absolutely Perfect Justice, we don't deserve ANYTHING but death and eternal damnation. So now, you might begin to appreciate the extreme contrast between man's image of grace and God's Perfect Image of Grace. Thus, it's an ABSOLUTE FACT the ONLY way any of us will get to Heaven is by the Grace of God. Does this help? If not, let me know and I'll try again. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

362 | What consitutes a "righteous act?" | Rev 19:8 | Country Girl | 123972
I don't see how. Like I mentioned, we're following the lead of Savior. He set a whole standard of behavior for the whole world. I'm convinced if it hadn't been His influence in this world, it would probably have been destroyed again by now. It's just not in the nature of mankind to stay up with God's standard of doing anything decent and righteous for very long. We're just too prone to choosing the easier path as He talked about with the straight and narrow gate to Heaven. What do you think? Blessings to you. Country Girl |

363 | What constitutes a "righteous act?" | Rev 19:8 | Country Girl | 123970
Matt 22:11 "But when the king came in to look over the dinner guests, he saw a man there who was not dressed in wedding clothes, Matt 22:12 and he *said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here without wedding clothes?' And the man was speechless. Matt 22:13 "Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' I see your obvious point in comparing these two verses from Revelation and Matthew but the more pressing issue is your question "What constitutes a righteous act?" I would have to submit the following verses from the same speaker Matt 25:31 "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy[3] angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34Then the King will say to those on His right hand, "Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.' 37"Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, "Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?' 40And the King will answer and say to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.' 41"Then He will also say to those on the left hand, "Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.' 44"Then they also will answer Him, saying, "Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?' 45Then He will answer them, saying, "Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.' 46And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." Jesus words seem very clear to me. We are to follow His example and be kind and thoughtful to all with whom we come in contact. If we see a need, we should do our very best to fulfill that need. It'll be like "storing up treasures in Heaven." Blessings to you. Country Girl |

364 | John 1:18-1 Cor 15:23,24 comparison | 2 Cor 5:8 | Country Girl | 123965
I'm looking forward to this discussion. Copied for context: Jn 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. 15John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, "He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me."' 16And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. 19 Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?" 20He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ." 21And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No." 22Then they said to him, "Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?" 23He said: "I am "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Make straight the way of the LORD,"' as the prophet Isaiah said." 24Now those who were sent were from the Pharisees. 25And they asked him, saying, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?" 26John answered them, saying, "I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know. 27It is He who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose." 28These things were done in Bethabara beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. compared to 1 Cor 15:12 Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 1 Cor 15:13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; 1 Cor 15:14 and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. 1 Cor 15:15 Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. 1 Cor 15:16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; 1 Cor 15:17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. 1 Cor 15:18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 1 Cor 15:19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied. 1 Cor 15:20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. 1 Cor 15:21 For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. 1 Cor 15:22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. 1 Cor 15:23 But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ's at His coming, 1 Cor 15:24 then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. 1 Cor 15:25 For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. 1 Cor 15:26 The last enemy that will be abolished is death. 1 Cor 15:27 For HE HAS PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET. But when He says, "All things are put in subjection," it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him. 1 Cor 15:28 When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all. The conclusions from this discussions should be very interesting. What in particular do you draw from these two sets of scriptures? Blessings to you. Country Girl |

365 | Study on blasphemy!! | Matthew | Country Girl | 123964
If you'll insert the word "unpardonable sin" or "blaspheme Holy Spirit" into the Quick Search on your screen, you'll receive a tremendous wealth of information. I know because I just did; some of the statements go back years. I mentioned those two different phrases because you can't squeeze all those words into one search. Blessings to you in your study. 366 | Can salvation be lost? | Jude 1:5 | Country Girl | 123963
1. Yes, very definitely. I became a christian at the young age of 13. I've had ups and downs in my life and have been unfaithful but I've been restored and am now quite faithful. I'm now a member of a very good, dedicated bunch of christians who encourage me and work with me to be the best christian I can be. 2. I have full confidence in my salvation because I have obeyed the commands of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I have complied with ALL of His terms and conditions so I can receive His gift of salvation. I'm growing in my spiritual relationship with Him and His Father every day. I study His Word and am getting to know It better and better. I think my attitude is closer and closer to the heros in the Bible about whom we read. I love to share the best parts of my life with others so as to encourage them. I don't hesitate to mention the mistakes I've made IF they come up, especially if it's beneficial to help someone through their own crisis. How about you? What is your response to these same two questions? Blessings to you. Country Girl |

367 | Can salvation be lost? | Jude 1:5 | Country Girl | 123931
I would submit that the only way of being confident of our salvation is after a lifetime of studying God's Word, obeying what we read and maturing in a close spiritual relationship with our Lord. I've lived quite a few years and I've only known a small handful with that kind of confidence as cited in 1 John. But I do think it's attainable by anyone who devotes himself as mentioned above. But if it were easy, then that would go counter to our Lord's Words about the straight and narrow gate to Heaven vs. broad and wide road to Hell, wouldn't it? Blessings to you. Country Girl |

368 | Can salvation be lost? | Jude 1:5 | Country Girl | 123928
The most powerful question, in my opinion, posted in this thread is from your post "Why do Paul, John, James, Jude and Peter write so much about the need to fight the fine fight and hold a good conscience if no risk of losing salvation?" I do hope a multitude of folks read this thread and your post in particular. I do believe you've head the crux of the matter with a dead on bombshell. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

369 | Am I my brother's keeper? | Gen 28:15 | Country Girl | 123917
Gen 4:9 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" And he said, "I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?" Of course, you are correct but remember Cain asked this question because of God's question so in effect God still expects a good, positive answer from all us, His creation. But thanks for pointing our my error. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

370 | Am I my brother's keeper? | Gen 28:15 | Country Girl | 123916
Have you ever inserted the words "one another" into the Word Search to come up with all the associated scriptures on the subject? I just did and there are dozens of such scriptures in the NT alone. It seems the Bible puts a tremendous emphasis on our relationship with our fellow christians here on earth. As a matter of fact, I believe John put so much emphasis on it, that we can't even hope to go to Heaven unless we're in fellowship with our brethren at least as much as it is possible with our direct input into that fellowship. (1 Jn 1 and 2) So you see, we can't be just satisfied that we have a good vertical relationship with God our Father. We must also strive for a balanced, horizontal relationship with our christian family here on earth. Yes, I'm very much afraid God does expect a positive answer to his question to Cain. For He does indeed expect us to be our brother's keeper. No, I'm not saying we must be ultimately responsible for our brother's sins UNLESS we are the direct cause, like our drinking alcohol in front of him when we know he has a weakness. But I am saying that God wants us to learn to truly love our fellow man, and most especially our fellow christian enough to check on them now and again. Encourage them, love on them and ocassionally chastise them when they really need it. We should see this relationship like blood brothers of the same earthly father, only better and closer for we all have the same eternal Father. For scriptures, I can only cite the ones already cited before. You probably know them better than I do. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

371 | Are "careless words" sin? | Matt 12:36 | Country Girl | 123910
I just thought of another interesting parallel: Upon thoughtful consideration of the way our God speaks to us as His children through His Word, our Bibles, I have to draw the conclusion that generally God speaks to us with great simplicity and straight forwardness. Upon describing the greatest achievement in this whole universe, its creation including the creation of man and woman, Adam and Eve, God only takes a few chapters to do so and does it with an amazing amount of simplicity. As I mentioned, I think God describes the way this universe is going to end in a rather simple manner, speaking a word like He did in the beginning and bring it to a very sudden end as depicted by His Son in Matt 24, by Paul in 1 Thes 5:2 and by Peter in 2 Pet 3:10. In contrast, men have come up with a great elaborate idea of a gradual, dramatic phasing of the end of the world and the various kinds of judgments as you've suggested. First, the rapture, then the 1000 year reign and other feautures about which I really don't know very much. All I know my Bible (and yours) teaches God is a tremendously powerful, all-knowing, all-present Being but when He deals with His creation, including you and me, He does so very simply. He created the whole universe in a mere six 24 hour days. I'm sure he can destroy it much quicker, and conduct judgment in a much faster timeframe than you and I can imagine and then proceed with the rest of His existence, whatever form that's going to take. As you said this is all opinion so what you think of mine? I hope you'll pray and study on it. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

372 | Are "careless words" sin? | Matt 12:36 | Country Girl | 123906
As I mentioned, Jesus' Words are very clear and it doesn't seem to describe anything like what you're saying. In contrast to that, I'd also submit Paul's words from Hebrews Heb 9:27 And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, Heb 9:28 so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him. As I mentioned, when you take ALL the scriptures from the NT and put them together and draw a solid, consistent conclusion, I can only see the scene as clearly depicted by our Lord in Matt 25. I realize this goes counter with what you and several others believe but the Bible really should be read clearly and simply whenever possible as our Lord intended it. Of course there are exceptions like the figurative language in Revelation, Daniel and Ezekiel. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

373 | Are "careless words" sin? | Matt 12:36 | Country Girl | 123896
Copied from an earlier post: Also, since you bring it up. Are you saying that once we become christians, we don't have anything more to do for Christ? We can coast on into Heaven, doing absolutely nothing more? If so, what about all the scriptures that depict the christian way of life after being saved. If we are to do something, what are we to do? Can you provide scriptures? I noticed you didn't respond to these questions. Maybe you overlooked them? Thanks for taking a second look. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

374 | Are "careless words" sin? | Matt 12:36 | Country Girl | 123895
I'm not certain exactly what Paul is the Corinthian letter but to me Jesus' Words are quite clear. I'm afraid I'll go with His words and assume there will be two groups at Judgment Day as mentioned earlier. Matt 25:31 "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 39Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?' 40And the King will answer and say to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.' 41"Then He will also say to those on the left hand, "Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.' 44"Then they also will answer Him, saying, "Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?' 45Then He will answer them, saying, "Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.' 46And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." I think there are far more scriptures depicting this view than the questionable scriptures you and Kalos are referring to. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

375 | Am I my brother's keeper? | Gen 28:15 | Country Girl | 123894
I was just reading this thread and found it to be interesting. I noticed you didn't really complete the line of thought you started with this post. So this line of reasoning begs the question: ARE we indeed our brother's or sister's keeper? I don't really see how we could consider this question from God, Creator of the Universe to be rhetorical. I'll wait for your response and then sumit my opinion. I would humbly suggest Ja 5:13-18 could be included in this discussion. What do you think? Blessings to you. Country Girl |

376 | Are "careless words" sin? | Matt 12:36 | Country Girl | 123813
Copied from your post: As I read this passage and consider the Judgment Seat of Christ (which is only for believers) I suspect that these careless words are anything apart from Christ at work in our lives. Did you actually mean to say that Judgment Day will be only for believers? What is your scriptural basis for such an unusal statement? I hope you didn't mean to say that; there's just too many scriptures to counter that position. For example Jesus' depiction of Judgment Day with the sheep and the goats in Matt 25. Please tell me this was just a typo on your part. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

I've read your post twice but I'm not certain of your position. Are you saying we ARE going to answer for all the careless words we say or not? Also, since you bring it up. Are you saying that once we become christians, we don't have anything more to do for Christ? We can coast on into Heaven, doing absolutely nothing more? If so, what about all the scriptures that depict the christian way of life after being saved. If we are to do something, what are we to do? Can you provide scriptures? Blessings to you. 378 | Biblical - women preachers/teachers??? | 1 Tim 2:12 | Country Girl | 123808
Sometimes I must admit those on the Forum can get just a little rough with some of their responses. Sometimes they don't even sound like they came from people who have read about the love of God as described in 1 Cor 13. BUT I'm still afraid that doesn't mean that ANYONE can EVER revise God's Word and He is very, very clear on this matter of the woman's role in the Lord's church. And that role is to be in submission to the men of the congregation of which we're members, in accordance with the pattern set for us in the NT. I pray this is helpful. Blessings to you. 379 | Are "careless words" sin? | Matt 12:36 | Country Girl | 123807
I would have to say yes. We know from the many pictures painted throughout the Bible depicting Judgment Day, there's only going to be two groups of people: those who were faithful and kept their Lord as a high priority in their life and those that didn't. BUT I do think the Greek word for careless was a little more suggestive of sin than we mean in today's world. I'm certain our Lord doesn't mean for us, his children to NOT enjoy a good wholesome joke or to recognize humor in our world. We don't see Jesus in very many humorous situations but that's because he had such a serious job of saving the lost from a dying world and He had such a short time to wrap up His mission. Do you have any idea of the exact Greek word for "careless" and its full meaning? What are your thoughts on this matter? Blessings to you. Country Girl |

380 | Are careless words "sin?" | Matt 12:36 | Country Girl | 123798
Col 3:17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. With the words from Jesus and these words from Paul, it does seem the Bible is very clear that we as God's people should strive for this as a high priority in our lives. But I think that's also where Grace comes in, to make up for our shortcomings. As long as we really are genuinely giving God our very best, He'll meet us to make up the balance. Blessings to you.
