Bible Question:
Hello, My question is what is the different between favor of God and his grace. What does it means when i hear people say that God give them favor? I am a little confuse with the word favor and the word grace. I guess grace is still underserving favor because he didn;t have to give his grace but he did. Can you please elaborate on the two. |
Bible Answer: One of the best scriptures I can think of would be Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. 7In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace 8which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth--in Him. 11In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, 12that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. 13In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. I think it might help to remember just how undeserving we really are by reading Is 64:4 For since the beginning of the world Men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, Nor has the eye seen any God besides You, Who acts for the one who waits for Him. 5You meet him who rejoices and does righteousness, Who remembers You in Your ways. You are indeed angry, for we have sinned-- In these ways we continue; And we need to be saved. 6 But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away. 7And there is no one who calls on Your name, Who stirs himself up to take hold of You; For You have hidden Your face from us, And have consumed us because of our iniquities. You see, you and I are used to thinking like humans. Generally, when we go to a court of law, we start thinking of all the reasons why we deserve some form of mercy. But in God's World of absolutely Perfect Justice, we don't deserve ANYTHING but death and eternal damnation. So now, you might begin to appreciate the extreme contrast between man's image of grace and God's Perfect Image of Grace. Thus, it's an ABSOLUTE FACT the ONLY way any of us will get to Heaven is by the Grace of God. Does this help? If not, let me know and I'll try again. Blessings to you. Country Girl |
