Lightman: Welcome to the Forum! You question reminds me of a man who was 37 and asked the same questions you do. This man told of asking the the lord into his heart over and over. He told of how he was scared to death to die. He too claimed have read the Bible for many years, and his Bible looked as if he had all but worn it out! He told of how he had repeatedly gone to several pastors in his life time seeking reassurance of his salvation. Some pastors told him he needed to pray more. So he says, he prayed more and more, with no results! Other pastors told him to tithe, and to read the Bible even more. He said he did all that and more. He was a trustee, Sunday School teacher, and active in the church. This man looked as saved as anyone, and no one doubted he was a true believer. The pain and agony of the constant fear of death and doubts got so bad it got unbareable. One Saturday at a men's breackfast at the church the special speaker told how he found Christ. Every detail the speaker related of how it was before he was truely born again, matched this mans life. This man claimes that what he was missing was repentance. He said he had never repented of anything. We know that confession without repentance is incomplete. Right? This man did repent and went to extremes. He refiled his past 5 years of income tax becaue he said he had never filed an honest one. He sought out those he had wronged and asked for restitution and forgiveness. The story goes on, he had to ask the deacons permission to be baptized. He was so active in church the deacons would not believe he just got saved. One deacon is said to have told the man, if you were't saved then I am not either! The man was baptized, and his family was changed. He went to Bible colledge, and completed four years in 24 months. He got a M Div at Seminary and pastored four churches. Both he and his wife got the same degrees, and ministered together until he became retired medically, several years later. This man's story has been the kindling to start some people thinking if they too were like he was. I have often wondered how many people are just like this man was. Do you recall a point where you not only confessed Jesus Christ, but repented? Repentance and confession are the two sides of the same coin. Examine carefully your self and see if this man's lack of repentance is in some way connected to how you feel. I pray this offers some new insight to you. Blessings and peace to you. Justme PS: I was that man! |

Hank: I too hear a lot about spending eternity away form God, and enduring until the end. I recall hearing or reading that more is mentioned about hell than heaven. I have never checked it out for my self to see if the statement is true. Have you heard this too? Christianity Today had an article, I saw in the last 6 months, that said that a good number of graduating Seminary students did not believe in a literal hell, some doubted the virgin birth, and several other areas that realy distribed me. Hank have you seen this kind of article? If some pastors come out disbelieving some of the very foundations of the Christian faith, no wonder we have so many neo-orthodox liberal churches! Now please allow me to quote a Arkansas fellow. Those people who choose to go to hell one day will say "It hurts like hell". Justme |

2783 | I wan to YEILD | 1 John 5:13 | justme | 88883
Hank: To be very up front, I have really struggled with when I was really saved. I clearly remenber at the age of 8 praying to recieve Christ. I am sure at that point my statement of faith was genuine, However I believe some of us take a long time to get to the point of real repentance. I believe we are called to repent, and with out repentance everything will be totally off. I do see salvation as a coin. On one side is recievibg Christ, the other side is obediance. By that I mean repentance, baptism and maturing in the Lord. I believe we are being saved, which is active renewal of our total being into Christ. I hope I am making myself clear. For me it took a long time to hear what I was lacking. I do not believe in a second blessing, or that to speak in tongues is a sign of of salvation. I do believe unless there is a real change of sinful direction, then there is a flaw in our faith. I have been able to think about this for a more than two decades, and it has not been easy for me to come to this conclusion about my own experience, and spiritual journey in maturing more in Christ likeness. I also believe satan will do whatever it takes to influence us to believe we are not saved, or anything to discourage us. I hope this helps in a better way to explain my experienced. I am experiencing what 1 percent of those going through radiation get, ALL the worst of the side effects. This is a real hard mountian to climb. I am blessed as Jesus is carring me. The end of the treatments stop at the end of July. Then only time will tell. I dwell in the Psalms, Romans, and Matthew. I can say the family who walks beside one with this illness suffer more than the ill person! Thank you for your concern and prayers. Blessings to you old wise Arkansas brother. justme |

bumpas5: Lest I fail to recall correctly, when in a court of law we are asked to "so help me God". The President and members of Congres are sworn into office with their hand on the Bible. Do these instances count? Personally I could offer more examples if you need more. Blessings. justme |

kalos: You ask a question that I have pondered for a long time. May I refer you to the "left behind" Multi volume fictional books for a more complete, imaginary understanding. I understand where Mark is coming from, but I have a more post trib understanding of Scripture. I don't say this to be arguementive, just saying what I see Scripture say. Blessings Kalos. Justme |

2787 | Are we not judged by how we vote? | 2 John 1:11 | justme | 71914
Ventures Fan 1: Welcome to the Forum! You can change your Forum name by leaving a note in your present Update Uuser Info saying you have changed to.... Then sign in new again and stick with the new forum name. That is honest and open to all. I changed form farout to justme quite a long time ago. A few thought farout was, too farout. Long story but thats another rabbit to chase some other time. Now to your question. I have NEVER missed a time to vote in my entire time I could vote! I feel I paid a real heavy price to be able to vote. So I wont be deprived of my privledge! Recently I have voted by the "planks" of the party, rather than the man. I think abortion is murder! I will not vote for anyone who supports abortion! I do not support any more rights for any group that is different, just because they are sexual perverts!! I do agree with the rights of the people to have firearms. With these requirements I was left with one choice. If my Christian beliefs are in line with these requirements, I will in a local election, vote for the person who holds the same values as I do disregarding political party. This last Presidental election is the first time I voted for a winning President! No matter who is in office I pray for God to work in their live. I hope never again to have such an immoral President as Mr. Clinton was. That is not to say he was the only President that was unable to be sexually pure and true to his wife. There should be no doubt that those in leadership positions, in church or otherwise, will be held even more accountable for their actions. We all will answer for our deeds good and bad. I have friends who have supported the opposite party, that I could not, according to my Christian beliefs. One example was Jimmy Carter. I have had the privledge to hear him explain his reasons as to why he could not change abortion laws. I confess after hearing him I understood his reasoning. He is accountable to God, not to me any longer. I think he has made a better peacemaker and Christian example, out of office than when he was President. Don't you wish we could say that of all past Presidents? We are required to pray for our leaders, we have a job to do and let us be faithful in doing so. justme |

2788 | Do you own a TNIV BIBLE? | 3 John | justme | 68487
Do you personally own and have used the TNIV? I would prefer only someone answer that has a TNIV, to respond please. What is you actual experience about it. I have read many reviews and they have been from a glance at the TNIV perspective. Is this a worthy translation in the language of today? Is it better than the LIVING BIBLE?

2790 | To Prosper or not to Prosper? | 3 John 1:2 | justme | 57391
ITimothy 6:17 gives a good reason to respect what God gives, and how you are responsible for your money. For most what ever they make is not enough. I have found the thrill of the desire to have is far greater, than the actual reality of having gottenthe desired item. I think it's called buyers remorse. The thrill of a new car quickly is gone when the first payment falls due. I think most materialistic things turn out this way. Only that which is given in free love never loses value, or is unsatifactory. Salvation in Christ is a free gift, and never stops giving on and on. agape, justme |

2791 | 1 Tim 6:17 | 3 John 1:2 | justme | 57510
GeeVee:Philippiams 4:12. I am not sure how to answer you to be quite honestly. I am not the one whom will be judged by how any one lives but me. So how I see materialsm and prosperity is how I am prepared to answer to the Lord for my way of life. Some of which I won't be to proud to be accountable for. I am of the opinion that materialisn in Pauls day was quite meager compaired to our times. Recently on PBS TV they had FRONTIER HOUSE. They took three families and they lived exactly as the people of 1883. Now compared to the time of Christ these 1883 people had many "modern advances" but life was hard, especially for women! But they had materialism in comparison from Christs time. As I look at how we live today, so much better off than 1883, it is like living in "tommrow land". So the farther we get from the time Paul wrote this, much has changed. Paul learned to live in humble means and in prosperty, learning to suffer, being hungry and filled, and having abubdance and suffering in need. I don't think the meaning of prosperity and materialism that we use today have much in common with the meagerness Paul was thinking when he penned prosperity, or materialism. However I do not live in the conditions Paul did either. Frankly, This is a challange every believer must choose for themself. I consider that in many parts of the world, people live in conditions much as when Paul was alive about 2000 years ago. Go to Mexico City, DF. and within 20 miles I can show you proverty that Christians suffer, yet praise the Lord corn flower, wood for the fire, and plastic for a roof that keeps the rain out. I would agree that there materalistic Christian children working 40 plus hours a week trying to find any usable item for their family. GeeVee, prosperity and materialism has different meanings, to people in many cultures, countries, and with a wide range of income, from just enough to eat, to buying a Ferrari or a Neon. If we as Christians do not evaluate what prosperity, and materialism little will change. For me prosperity and materialism in todays world in the major countries, there is a very small line that devides the two. Several years ago Color TV was materialistic. Today Color TV is prosperity. Less than 30 years ago Microwaye ovens were materalistic, mow thery are prosperity. The closer prosperity comes to materalism in rich countries the further appart prosperty and materialism becomes for third world countries. All one has to do is look where you clothes are made, or even trucks and cars where workers are paid far below our minium wage. However, now that a larhge percent of US workers are with out work, they are now willing to work for much less than some foeign workers! So some foriegn car makers ar blessing us by moving back here! In 1980 18 dollars an hour was a good wage for union carpenters. Now that wage is around 12 dollars an hour. Prosperty, can turn to materialism and then back to proverty. We need to work for things that last in Gods Kingdon. This is just food for thought by one who the LOrd has never let down. agape, justme |

2793 | Where is trib? | Revelation | justme | 50278
I am a per-trib believer anf in my understanding the only thing to save you would to ask Christ to be your LOrd. Most likely this would mean physical death by exucution. Why not ask Christ to be your Lord now? That is if you have not already done so. agape, justme |

2797 | OT verses in Revelation? | Revelation | justme | 51296
Oh Kind Searcher: As I look at my copy of CHRISTANITY IN CRISIS at this very second, may I humbly, and as an old pain in the neck that I am, correct your misspelling of the dear Dr.s lastname it is Hanegraaff, But to assure that HARVEST HOUSE PUBLISHERS did not misspell our brother in Christ last name I looked in the title page. But for sure it is spelled Hanegaaff. I did want to make sure beyond a shadow of a doubt, sounds almost biblical, I checked the Libary of Congress Catalogue-in- Publication Data. That read as Hanegraaff, Hank. I am aware that at times I spell like I failed the third grade, which indeed I did. So please forgive my true mistakes. However, names I really try extra hard to spell right. So maybe by the time I turn 75 I will have the spelling vocabulary of a sixth grader. agape, justme |

2799 | Who is the Bride of Christ? | Revelation | justme | 83713
RCSCROLL: I find your thoughts interesting. What you say is true, Darby came up with the dispensional view, and Scofield brought the theory even further. I too am a admirer of Hank Hanegraaff's ministry, and his carring on after Dr. Martin went to be with the Lord. Hank has taken a responsible position to bring to light that the "left behind" theology is questionable. I have said that if there was no book of Revelation a few author's who pump out this "left behind" series of massed produced, fiction and some Biblical truth, might starve to death. How many more in the "left behind" books do you think they can come up with? As a personal note of my belief, I take Matthew 24, and find Jesus has very adequately presented the signs of His return, and how we are to be ready. I think it is rather bold to think we can project the exact 7 years, and other events, when Jesus said that ONLY the FATHER knows! What causes me concern, is so many people have missed the joy of sharing, living in Christ's love for us. Instead they are making converts to Christ based on fear! In 1 John 4:18 " There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love." That sums up my thinking quite well. I enjoy your willingness to bring thinking "outside the box" to the forum. Blessings to you. justme |

2800 | who is not in the book of life? | Revelation | justme | 88726
uniqueone49: Those in the Book of Life are those who are born again believers. Those who's name is not in the Book of Life are not believers. In your profile you wanted more information about the Book of Life. Zondervan published a Bible reading progran with 24 volumes and called it The Book Of life. This is a very "unique" way for systematic Bible study. I own a set and it has been a good tool to help in seeing the Bible in a new fresh light. Some church libarys have them, perhaps some public as well. justme |
