2701 | Church membership scriptural? | Heb 10:25 | justme | 169300
Messiahh'schild: I have read the notes to your question, and thought I would add food for thought. I attend Clavary Cahpel that does not have membership. Pryor to five years ago I was a baptist, which always have membership. Having been part of both I believe I can be fair as to my opinion. Even though Calvary Cahpel says they are not a denomination, they are one hair width from it. I do not like non-membership. I personally like a congreation form of governing, with Elders and Decons being voted by the congreation, and budgets voted on. Having said that, I respect the sincere desire of my churches Pastor and Elders to lead the church in the direction they are sure the Lord is leading. I have for the most have not found too much to not agree with. I feel the members have the right to see the budget and have greater input into these matters. Having been a pastor, I think non-membership makes it hard to know who really is a devoted Christian and loyal to the body of believers that they worship with. There is most certianly no reason why God can't work in either situation, and He does. I believe if the Lord is calling and there is a ministry that one feels they should do, then do whatever the Lord leads you to do. Blessings. Justme |

2702 | what is the church's responsibilities t | Heb 10:25 | justme | 239226
Better question is why don't members remember they are the CHURCH? They seem to think the Pastor is the church and he does most of the work. Something is sure backwards here. The Bible says Born Again followers are the CHURCH
2703 | what is the church's responsibilities t | Heb 10:25 | justme | 239234
Doc: How many times have we heard the "church" meaning those in some kind of paid position, didn't do this or that? I also came to the conclusion by experience, there is no such thing as a part time pastor (bi-vocational). When I see church members who do not get involved, visit, or even make a phone call to see why you were not there last Sunday, I wonder is anyone really Following Christ? One Pastor can't do it all or even come close. |

2704 | what is the church's responsibilities t | Heb 10:25 | justme | 239261
Doc: it's high time for us to go back to the Bible and start from there. Maybe even consider new churches, or find old boarded up churches and start from there. Too many pastors like being king pen and churches like being lazy? I am puzzled at this point. justme |

2705 | should it be Easter, or Passover? | Heb 12:24 | justme | 221821
sonofmom: You have brought to the attention of some who have not given serious thought about what "easter" really is. Easter is satans way of distracting the attention of people from the true meaning of The Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Eastar was a pagan fals god who was the goddess of fertility, thus the little bunnies and baby chickens. Satan will do all possible to distract from Christ His die worship. I literally hate the word easter. Anyone who doubts that easter clelbration is a pagan holiday needs to read the papers advertizment. In our local area one church ran a add saying there would be a early breakfast, before Sunday School and the easter Lords Supper would be after the easter message. This would be followed by an easter egg hunt. This made me sick! When we use the word "easter" to represent our Celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, we totally distract the genuine meaning of the Resurrection! I believe calling Resurrectio Day Celebration "easter" is a sin, and shame on those who dishonor the Lord Jesus Christ By doing so! justme |

2706 | fellow believers or not? | Heb 13:1 | justme | 139928
Hank: I believe "old Oliver" has some relatives up here in Missouri. They have some car lots, and most of them cars have been driven by old widow ladies, that only drove them to church and the store. They went to church a lot, the cars all have about 175,000 miles. For three year old cars that's pretty good would'nt you say? Blessings Hank, have a merry Christmas. justme |

2707 | Curse/Divorce Question | Heb 13:4 | justme | 67386
simplyword: Welcome to the Forum! Please take some time and tell us something about yourself in the Update Users Info. This allows us to answer questions, and know something about yourself. Your answer with scripture is good. I wonder if you are aware that "putting away" is different from divorce? Putting away was sending a wife away with out a certificate of divorce. Anyone marring such a woman would be commiting adulery, as she was still another mans wife legally. The meant the old husband could come get her, and take her away at anytime. This is what happened and why Moses permitted divorce with a certificate freeing the woman. That is why in Malachi 2:16 "I hate putting away....." Some versons sending away or even divorce. In the Hebrew it refers clearly to sending away or putting away. There is a sharp clear difference from divorce, and putting or sending away without a certificate of divorce. All divorces begin with hardness of heart. Now that I think about it most sin starts with a hardness in our heart toward God. Many Christians have carried unbeliveable second class Christian status in the churches that do not seem to recognize the difference. Divorce is painful and carries with it enough guilt, grief and failure and shame, without us adding more wreight to those who carry this heavy burden as is. Who am I to judge someone elses past when my own had sin; or what need of Jesus would I have had? I once heard someone say "Christians are the ones who shoot their wounded" Oh may this never be said, I pray, out of my mouth, that I added more pain to a wounded Brother or Sister in Christ. However, I shamefully admit I am sure I have. justme |

2708 | Premarital sex is a sin? | Heb 13:4 | justme | 112503
Kalor: We could add that our laws are based on married couples and families. We have family laws. The majority of our country beliefe marriage to be the basic foundation of social structure. There is a natural shame that takes place when couples just live together. Now if their hearts are so heardned to no longer feel shame than that is another story. Just thought I would add my pennies worth. Blessings. justme |

2709 | ministry? | Heb 13:8 | justme | 89232
4givn: Welcome to the Forum! I am glad you feel so positive about the Forum. There is a lot that goes on that very few have much of a clue about what it takes to have such a Fourm. I believe just the computed needed to have such a catalogue of keeping the all the information strieght would be a huge job. Say nothing about the progran to run a forum, must be quite costly. Somewhere you have to factor in many phone lines upkeep and reppaie and the people to host the site while its on. Maybe it would take so much time you might burry yourself and have little time for anything else. There are other forum's already, and I would think you would need to research to other Forum's to see what the need realy is. So if after all the research, you still feel inclined then maybe this would be worth looking into. Blesings to you. justme |

2711 | Confronting forgiveness | James | justme | 63993
Statrn44: Welcome to the Forum! I am glad to you have become a Christian. I hope you are in a church and have followed our Lords command to be Baptized. I am pleased that you are a brother in Christ. The most important issue is what is the Holy Spirit directing you to do? What I say really is insignificant if you feel the Spirit leading you differently. I would ask did you anything that he should forgive you for? Perhaps your anger, when you vented on the landlord was wrong? I really do not know what you wrote. I would consider, if you feel so directed, contact the landlord and set the record streight if you were unfair in your letter. You might just let it pass and continue to be friendly, and see how it goes from here on. Be wise, if this person was a problem before, has he changed to where you feel you can trust him? The Bible tells us to be wise. Pray for wisdon, in James 1:5 there it promises wisdom for those who lack wisdom. I hope you become a part of this forum and God Bless you! justme |

2712 | first new testament book and author | James | justme | 63997
Deaconjohn: Of course when we look at the New Testament Matthew is the first book we open to, I am sure that is no supprise. However, in seminary I was taught that Mark was the first book written, most likely in early 50 AD or as late as 70AD. Many Biblical schollars think Matthew and Luke used Mark as source for their books. There is stilla beliefe by some that believe a source called "Q" for Quallie, was a source that was used by all four writers of the gospels. I personally do not subscribe to that theory. Should you want to dig further into this consider going to a near by seminary or Christian bookstore that has graduate level research materials. The study is really fasinating, and who knows you might really enjoy the research. I hope this helps. justme |

2713 | Where do we go with burdens? | James 1:5 | justme | 66655
Why is it that we seem to seek out others advice on problems and seek their advice or solutions, from the Forum first? Are we not to seek out Wisdom from our "Owners Manual" the Bible, and pray to our Father in Heaven for wisdom and direction, first before seeking the advice of others? When a thread takes nine hours to suggest some answers for a problem that a burdened person has, is this how we as Christians are to resolve our problems and issues? Should we not direct our burdens to Jesus our Lord, and expect Him to direct and give us wisdom? I am not saying the Forum can not help but should we not direct burdened people to the Lord who has every answer? Psalm 139:3 " You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways." NASB updated. Who is wiser, more knowledgeable, and loving than God Almighty? Does not God have the answer to everything? Maybe we need to say I am willing to prayer partner with this for you? Is it perhaps, easier to come up with a quick fix instant answer, I really wonder, do you? justme |

2714 | Where do we go with burdens? | James 1:5 | justme | 66667
Hank: I personally have found that remembering Psalm 139:3 has been a verse that has brought me to prayer over burdens and all of lifes problems. Just Knowing the my Father KNOWS ME COMPLETLY! I have at times wondered if asking other Christians to pray for a need I am facing is really that important, if I ask to be in God's direct will. What more could I want. Does the prayers of many make God hear my request any more? If I am truely His Child is not my prayer enough? I say this with a serious question, as I have asked for prayer many times in my life, and it was comforting. But, was that not using my faith in God's ability to answer my prayer? I have pondered this for several years. I would respect and appreciate your opinion. justme |

2716 | drinking of wine | James 1:5 | justme | 225852
theresamac: For more than a half century I have heard that Jesus drank wine, so it's ok for me too right? Drunks frequently use this verse to justify their drinking. I personally think it's a dialogue that can go on forever. The main issue is how does this line up with pleasing the Lord in all we do? I have never met someone who said I started drinking to please the Lord and be a witness to others and be able witness to the unsaved. I think if one had tithes and has money left over and not in debtb and the family is doing fine then money should be ok to use to support a missionary or help a family in need. In my book for me to buy drink is wrong. What do you think now? justme |

2717 | Grace vs Works? | James 1:22 | justme | 242537
Welcome to The Study Bible Forum Rikbrooks. When we take the Word seriously it stirs the soul, and pricks our heart, and opens our minds. I believe that is the renewing our mind Paul refers to. In recent decades often alter calls were made and people were moved to come in mass and say a "sinners prayer". All too often nothing else was given except the assurance that a person was "saved". Sadly with the assurance that that they were saved that settled it for that person once and for all, and they returned to the lifestyle they had always been living. Those folks were led astray, and some even died in their sins and did not enter the Lords prepared place for genuine followers of Christ Jesus. This has been a travesty that even continues today. In Matthew 11:20 Jesus went into town doing miracles and preached to the people. However they did not become "followers" and they did not "repent". They did not turn in a new direction and reject their sins which required then to change. Without repentance and becoming a true follower of Jesus Christ there is no salvation. In Matthew 7:21-23 Jesus clearly said there those who will do many things in His name and yet they are not genuine born again followers of His. Furthermore Jesus said just because some call Jesus "Lord Lord" they will not enter His Kingdom. Those who do and say things about Jesus don't mean they are genuine born again repented flowerers of His. One only has to watch TV and see completely anti Biblical teaching and preaching. By some who love titles like Bishop, or the Holy Reverend so and so. How many people who were searching for Christ have been shipwrecked because of these greedy money hungry fake Christians have taken the Lords name in vain by their lies. As we grow in Christ we are being made aware of sins in our lives by the Holy Spirit. We are to confess these sins and turn away from them. One John one nine gives us assurance of being forgiven. When we allow the Holy Spirit to speak to our conscience or heart and we confess and Follow Christ we are becoming doers of the Word. Becoming a totally obedient believer of Jesus Christ is not accomplished in a ninuet or a day, but it takes our lifetime. Blessings in your walk with Jesus. justme |

2719 | Almost understanding? | James 1:22 | justme | 242563
Brother Rik, Wow a lot has changes from when you first signed in, way to go. I was afraid that you might drop out. But you have stuck in with it. Rik that's just the beginning, ib "following" Jesus, do you now understand what "follow" means? The becoming a Christ like believer is not accomplished in a day or a week it is one second built on the next. Year after year we grow into maturity, but no one every reaches perfection. Why? We have the OSN (my term) Old Sinful Nature. Bless you Brother Rik. Colossians 4:2 "devote yourselves to prayer; stay alert in it with thanksgiving." HCSB justme |
