241 | Can I really have what I say? | Mark 11:23 | Scribe | 85774
Mark 11:20-26 And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. It is amazing how much revelation is in the context and yet how often preachers build their doctrines of verses divorced from the context. If we see that unforgiveness will cause God not to hear us then we see that the idea of asking what we will has to do with a proper spiritual request. In my opinion we could say that if I were to ask the Lord to give me the ability to forgive someone I could be sure that if I have faith I will indeed have forgiveness for that person. Or if I ask that I could be free from a besetting sin, though it have deep roots like this fig tree, I can ask and believe and will see that thing dried up from the roots and be gone. If I say to this mountain obstacle that is blocking my growth in the Lord or my vision, (such as the log in my eye) be removed and if I have faith like the widow who continously went before the judge, I will have victory, I will be free, I will have whatsoever I ask. If a man asks for things that he may consume it upon his lusts, Jesus never meant that he would get that, James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. So we know that there is a balance, and what is that balance? Spiritual treasures, that is what we are to seek. I will claim a deeper walk of Love, what will you claim? :) |

242 | can I have both? | Mark 11:23 | Scribe | 85784
both what? The prerequisite is to seek first His Kingdom. If you are consumed with Christ, there is nothing left for you to consume of yourself. If you are dead to self you are not concerned with self gratification. If Jesus said these things will be added to you if you first seek Him, and Jesus also said Take not thought for what you should eat or wear etc, then it is obvious that as you are busy seeking the Things of God He will take care of you. He will take care of your housing. If He as taken care of it, don't seek a bigger one, instead seek His kingdom, leave your physical needs up to him. Flee from the flase teachers of today that try and teach that material gain is the measure of faith. This is not the gospel but an anti-gospel and when the Lord comes back many of those that say they have faith will be told they have none. True Faith seeks His Kingdom, which is all about loving others and serving others, it is about seeing souls saved and delivered from sin. It is about being holy yourself and more like Christ day by day, whether you live in a tent or in a house. The true gospel says if you have more than you need, sell it and give to those that have need. It is harder for a rich man to enter into heaven than for a camel to go through the eye of the needle because, few rich will give their riches to those in need. Justification for hording wealth will ring from the rooftops until Jesus Comes, but many will be ashamed in that day. May God keep us from covetousness and help us give of our abundance to our brothers in need. |

243 | Not far from the kingdom of God? | Mark 12:34 | Scribe | 104072
Yes. Great Question. One of my favorite passages. This passage follows a "Truth Stream" in the bible I refer to as "the law of illumination" The attitude of this man. Mark 12:28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? Se this scribe realized that Jesus was giving good answers, and he was honest enough to concede to those answers as being better than what he had learned. Instead of trying to trip Jesus up or ask Him something to try and accuse Him, this scribe really wanted answers and was willing to listen to them. THis is what made him "Open" to more light. Jesus explained in many ways to his dicsiples how that those that had the right heart would have understanding and those that did rejected knowledge would be hardned. This is really what it boils down to. Let the theologians argue till Jesus comes, those that obey the Lord and keep coming to the light will get more light. Those that refuse to repent and harden their hearts will be driven to darkness. Mark 12:34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question. Now I do not know if this Scribe got saved or not, I think he did, but the point here is that when a person honestly seeks to know the truth, they will approach the Kingdom of Heaven in proximity if they keep seeking they will find. If any native in the remotest jungle honestly seeks to know God they will be introduced to Jesus. Hallelujah! May God Bless You as you study His Word. |

244 | Would they had of believed? | Mark 15:34 | Scribe | 85356
Mark 15:31 Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save. Mark 15:34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Notice that In this passage Jesus says My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? And much has been said about this, "did the Father really forsake him.. etc" But I believe that Jesus was declaring by this, not that the Father had forsaken him but that he was in the midst of the psalm that starts with these words. Psalms 22:1 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? ...7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him....16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.....18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture. You see all that was spoken of a suffering messiah in Psalms 22 was being fulfilled right before their eyes. Even their mocking words were prophesied. Now you would think that there was at least one religious leader among them that had enough knowledge of the word to notice the similiarities between what he was witnessing and Psalms 22, especially when they cast lots for his clothes. And so that their would be no doubt that all this was mere coincidence we have Jesus Crying out the words My God My God why has thou forsaken me. Would they have acted differently if he came off the cross? Why would they if, their very mocking words were recorded centuries in advance, and they were to blind to see it? Would they stop being blind if he came down? Well we know the answer. Not only would they be no different if he came down then, they did not change after over 500 witnesses testified to his resurrection. No wicked men will be blind because they are wicked. Blindness comes upon a man because of his rejection of truth and that rejection and rebellion is not interested in what is true, but only what allows them to continue in their sins unopposed. But there is coming a day when all the haughty tongue waggers will be stopped and this is the day Enoch prophesied of when he said. "Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him." |

246 | How to get new language? | Mark 16:17 | Scribe | 85770
Dear jbw, Let's take a closer look at your question. When you say that "you heard" that you "must" speak in tongues. I have to ask where you heard this? Certainly not in the scriptures. I am not aware of a verse that says you MUST speak in tongues. There is one that says this... Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; So if you believe certain signs can follow you. To say one MUST speak in tongues we would have to say one MUST cast our devils to be saved. Now that would be a silly doctrine wouldn't it? Or one MUST drink deadly things. We know that Paul is an example of taking up a serpent unawares on the Island of Mileta and shaking it off and feeling no ill effects, so that others heard the gospel from him as a result. Shall we say that becuase God has promised to protect us even miracously on the mission field that one MUST take up serpents to be saved? I suggest that you read through the book of Acts and underline every reference to the baptism of the Holy Ghost and the gift of tongues. Then read 1 cor 12-14 and also Rom 12. After reading carefully and meditating on them allowing God to reveal things to your spirit, pray before and after and during your meditation. Then when you have a handle on all these scriptures tell me what you think the Word says. I will not add anything to the subject until you tell me what the Lord has shown you. But I must warn you to forget what men have taught you. Start fresh and study the scriptures only. May God Bless You as You Study His Word. Also I would like to add, concerning Baptism in the Name of Jesus or Father Son and Holy Ghost do a search on this post for my previous posts about what "in the name of" means. |

248 | Can a person push God too far?? | Luke | Scribe | 55047
I am not sure what you mean to say by this. I often wonder exactly what my baptist friends mean (not saying you are baptist) when they say similar statments. I am not posting this to argue or debate or to criticise you. I think you love the Lord, know the Lord and walk with God. I do not accuse you of any kind of heresy. Maybe you refer to New Testament teachings.. Jeremiah 3:8 And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also. There are numerous references to backsliding in the OT and always that I can tell they refer to Israel. The Israel God made a covenant with. The Israel God said he was married to. Of all the arguements that can be used to enforce the idea that a born again Christian can never be rejected by God the same arguments can be used about Israel. When someone says, Can God stop calling you a son if He is your Father? so also one could say Did God stop calling Israel His Wife if she would not repent? The opposing view about whether a born again person can backslide and be lost or whether he can't if presented by two true brothers on opposite sides of the issue usually are saying the same things. The one that says a person who lives in open sinful lusts of the flesh and does not turn from them or make some genuine effort at repenting is not going to heaven even if he says he has been born again is most often agreed upon by the brother who says that indeed such a person is not going to heaven, but not becuase he was born again and fell, but becuase he was never saved, for a saved person cannot live that way. The one that says a person living in open rebellion or secret sins will not inherit the kingdom of heave agrees with the one that say he must not be saved at all because the holy brother knows what misery he feels when or if he falls into sin and cannot comprehend how anyone could endure a week of living without the full confidence that all things are right between himself and God through being covered by the blood by faith and walking a holy walk of faith and being quick to repent. So what both sides are really saying is.. the saved person walks in holiness and if he fails he repents and the unsaved person lives a careless existence taking no thought for the wrath to come. |

249 | husband leave wife for God | Luke | Scribe | 86569
The KJV has the word gune for wife, I don't know why NASB or NIV would leave it out, but there are instances where they left out words that the KJV had in becuase they decided the oldest manuscripts did not have it in there or something to that effect. But really the meaning does not change. Put yourself in the times following the resurrection adn the persecution the church went through for so long. What if a wife told her husband if he kept serving Jesus she would turn him in to the sanhedrin to be killed. He would be forced to forsake his wife for Christ sake, either by death or hiding. Consider a woman in a muslim country who actually wants to live as an oppressed muslim woman and tells her husband that if he accepts Jesus Christ as saviour she will leave him. He would not be initiating a divorce, but if he choose Jesus and she left him, the same could still be said. .he forsook all for Christ. So whether it was father, mother, brother, sister or wife, that threaten to leave him or turn him in to the authorities the same truth is still understood, whether from the NASB or the KJV. Personally I think that the KVJ scholars using the best manuscripts they had plus many other previous translations is good enough for me. I think wife fits in their as well as the rest. We are supposed to honor mother and father also, but this does not mean we do not follow Christ if they tell us not to. The same applies to the wife, we do not seek to divorce an unbelieving wife, but we do not hesitate to obey Christ if she tells us she will leav us if we do. To follow Christ is forsaking her for Him, though we do leave her. May God Bless you as you study His Word. |

250 | Rev. 19:10 - "spirit of prophecy"? | Luke 4:1 | Scribe | 85760
Revelation 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. The angel is saying that this whole prophetic book is a revelation of Jesus Christ, that all that it says speaks of the Glory of Christ, He is the one that is worthy of our worship. The Holy Spirit in our heart is given to us to testify of Jesus Christ. John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: Actually all prophecy even in the Old Testament has behind it the testimony of Jesus Christ. |

251 | Do you try to find what a verse means? | Luke 10:26 | Scribe | 104075
I know that some questions do not have only one answer. I read scriptures about a particular topic that to me are so plain in context not only of the passage but in combination with all other passages on the topic. And yet I consistently here or read those that use words like "what doe the text Say" explain something the text does not say. Often men who say they only go by what the Word says, say they believe something the Word does not say. The word does not say it but they beleive that is the interpretation of a certain subject. When presented with scripture only and asked to imagine that they had never been to church or heard any teaching on religion and they were cast on a desert island and had only the bible and read it, What does logic suggest they would think at first reading when they read a certain passage, if they are willing to be honest with themselves they will confess that at first reading they would think something that is not what their denomination beleives. But then they quickly add that as they studied the whole bible they would concluded otherwise. But maybe not. Maybe their "conclusion" is not based on studying the whole bible but on years of being taught what the Bible means. It is a good question and I think that the answer is given in the teachings of Christ. Jesus often explained that having understanding in the spiritual things of God or the Kingdom of Heaven is directly related to our heart response toward honest repentance and submission to God. There must be a willingness to admit we are wrong and God's way is best even if it means we will be kicked out of our denomination if we believe it. Only then will we be given more light. But if faced with what in our hearts we know to be probably the correct interpretation of the clear word for word text we decide to side with a denominational teaching that we think might be the wrong one..we stop the light at that point and will not be able to really move on with God in the true spiritual things He wants to show us, until we deal with that error. We can be saved, and if that is all we care about then we will not try to clear it up. But the spiritual man will feel a sense of nagging suspicion that he is not siding with the Lord and it will drive him to his knees and his heart will cry out for knowledge and thirst for the truth, and the Lord will be faithful to give it to him. But many do not cry out nor thirst with fervency and God does not owe it to them to reveal it. It is easy to read a passage and give your opinion. No man has to seek knock and ask for that. It is no wonder that there are so many that do not agree, when there are so many that do not seek. Seek for it as hid treasure said the writer of Proverbs and we glance at it between coffee cups and the morning news. But those that seek out the truth with a heart cry of hunger and faith that will not be denied until they awake in His likness will come away in agreement with one another. God Bless You as you study His Word. |

252 | what is jesus trying to explain | Luke 18:1 | Scribe | 42897
It is talking about faith. Praying in faith and not giving up until you recieve and answer. He states...telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart,.. and then ends with... when the son of man comes will he find faith on the earth... This kind of faith of the woman. The lesson is this A good example but not the only applcation Let's say you have a besetting sin..you want to be freed from it. The enemy or adversary is vexing you with shame guilt and condemnation. You can go to Christ in faith and say Lord you died on the cross for me to be free from this sin. I know that your word says that sin shall not have dominion over me. I claim that promise in your holy name. I believe I recieve victory over this sin. I repent and will recieve grace from God to resist this sin in the future." now if the saint goes on and stumbles again, he is to continue praying.. "God I will not be denied, Your word says I can be free from this sin, I will not accept anything less than your word on this subject. I know that the Word of God cannot fail And your word says that sin shall not have dominion over me.. " Soon that saint will be free from that sin and never fall to it again. Jesus is saying.. how many will pray and believe like this when I come again. The indication seems to be that few will be like that. That more might be believing dumb things like "oh we are weak and god understands our propensity toward sin and so it is ok to hang on to this sin" May God Bless you as you study His Word. |

254 | What are passages and sayings? | John | Scribe | 43609
Acts 15:5-29 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses. And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter. And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they. Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them. And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me: Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world. Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood. For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day. Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren: And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia: Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment: It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth. For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things; That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.
255 | Spirit and Truth | John | Scribe | 86026
John 4:19-24 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. This passage explains to us that the idea that the woman had, that which building or "site" you visit was significant in the eyes of God as to acceptable worship was error. Jesus was saying the establishing of his church, the pouring out of the Spirit on all believers was upon them, and they would learn that you can worship and praise and fellowship with God anytime any where by your faith in Jesus Christ. He would give us the Holy Spirit which would be in us a well of water springing up in our innermost being and we would have constant fellowship with God in the Spirit and in Truth. Not the pompuos outward religious show of religous man made rituals in stuffy cathedrals that have no biblical basis, but in real comunion in the heart with God and the Holy Ghost. He will open up the Word of God to us so that we know what it means without any religious ruler telling us or without any need to attend a "school" of man's making to teach us how to interpret it. May God bless you in Spirit and in Truth as you study His Word. |

256 | What do you think? | John 3:16 | Scribe | 47394
I think you will find that the best application of only begotten is that of the virgin birth. That My God , My God was a quote from Psalms 22 which details the crucifixtion. If those that were there would have looked at the Psalm he was quoting they would have seen all the proofs of the prophecy of the crucifixtion. |

257 | Am I once and forever saved? | John 3:16 | Scribe | 85366
There is no fear in love. 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. The context of this passage is all about fellowship with God in Christ. If you are born again, you never have to be born again, again. If you are loving the Lord He will be faithful to mature you and keep you until the final day. Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: There are many verses that promise you that God will see you through, no man can take you from his hand. The controversy about this topic is usually over the fate of a backslider who goes back to the world and sinful living, and stays there. There are some that will say that even he is still saved, but most do not agree and think that if you stay backslidden you have no hope of going to heaven. It is really not that important of an argument becuase those that love the Lord and have tasted of the Joy of the Lord find that sin is so miserable they cannot stay in it and are always breaking down in heart felt repentance, and the Lord always is faithful to forgive and give them power to overcome sin. So the man who is born of God will not stay is sin or will be found saying.."I can't sin.." I just can't do this anymore.. I will return to my Father..and tell him I am not worth to be his son.. make me one of your servants... " And God is always there to embrace the repentant man and clean him up and change him. The error comes when someone trys to use God's Love as an excuse to sin, which is something we were warned about would happen in the last days.. Jude 1:4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. |

258 | Why didn't Jesus perform baptisms? | John 4:2 | Scribe | 84507
Hello Ray, Acts 15 is well connected with Acts 10. As the discussion of the need for circumcision among the gentiles that are christians is being raised, the example of gentiles converted that are given as the basis of Peters argument is that of the house of Cornelius. The very quote you mention is by Peter in reference to what he had experienced in the house of Cornelius Acts 15:9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Now if you read the story of the conversion of the gentiles in Cornelius house they are all saved by faith and have evidence of such by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and even the gift of tongues. Then afterwards they are baptized in water. This baptism in water is after their hearts have been cleansed by faith, and yet they still follow through with water baptism. Why? We could discuss it until Jesus comes again but I think that based on the verse we have on baptism we conclude that there are two major points in obeying this command. 1) It is an ACT of faith that is external and not just internal, by doing it we make ourselves accountable. We put the world and the devil on notice, that we are following Christ. It is all about Following the Lord Jesus Christ and not just saying we believe in GOD. We are not just saying we are going to get religious. We are not even just saying that we are following the God of Abraham. We are stating by baptism that we believe in JESUS CHRIST and that there is no other way than the death burial and resurrection of JESUS CHRIST that a man is saved. It is a declaration that THIS is the true salvation and no other. It is also a way of making ourselves accountable. When the enemy comes against us to discount what God has done, the public confession of baptism gives you the fortitude of character to follow through with your decision. An action on the part of the new convert such as water baptism can make the difference between a short lived emotional experience and a true "going all the way" laying down your life walk day by day following Jesus Christ salvation that we all want. The only problem I have with modern day baptism in protestant evangelical churches is that it is not frequent enough. If I pastored a church I would baptize every week and if not I would wonder why we were not getting anyone saved. |

259 | John6:39- 40 who is raised, when? | John 6:39 | Scribe | 41889
Joh 6:39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. 39. Torrey Joh 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. The saints are promised from ancient times that we will have a redemption of the body. So what Jesus is referring to is the Bodily resurrection of the saints. When we die now our spirit goes to be with Christ. But in the last day (a time period called the Day of the Lord) saints will have thier bodies raised and glorified as eternal bodies. So that in your current limited understanding you could say they are spiritual bodies, but not spirit only. We have a body and we have a spirit. Now our bodies are corruptible but then they will be raise incorruptible. There is a time period between going to be with the Lord now and getting our glorified bodies. There are plenty of scripture for this. I will post them if you would like. |

260 | eternal security | John 6:39 | Scribe | 43068
When speaking of eternal security are there denominations that actually believe that a christian could have a porn addiction, not repent, and die with it, and still go to heaven? I am trying to understand what it is that is being said by many concerning this subject. I know that the saint who walks in faith will repent of sins the Lord convicts them of and so they always have eternal security. I know that if a christian falls into a sin they are not lost. I know that even if they were to fall and then die in the same hour before they repented, it is hardly fathomable that they are eternally lost. But is practicing a porn addiction 'faith?' So then can such a one really claim the promise of eternal security? Shouldn't that christian fear eternal hell?
