241 | Biblical warrant to engage in debates? | Titus 3:10 | Mommapbs | 109827
Greetings Kalos! We are to be "ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;" 1 Peter 3:15 Should we be the initiators? Blessisngs, mommapbs |

242 | ethics of church | Ex 28:41 | Mommapbs | 109821
Greeetings Wilbo - I'm not quite sure what you are looking for here, but as I was searching the web, I came across a site that promoted immediate ordination for basically anyone. A self-proclaimed minister is quite a departure from God-directed ordination as described in Exodus. Most ministers are seminary trained - these graduates have "passed inspection" and are ordained by those who have examined their faith. See Tit 1:5 - Elders were appointed, not self proclaimed. Blessings, mommapbs PS: I suspect that you may be struggling with accountability issues here. We are to be accountable unto each other. Sadly, in churches where the Pastor is a rule unto himself, when conflicts or disagreements arise, there is no "higher authority" to mediate the issue. |

243 | Was Martin Luther King Jr. wrong? | Matt 5:13 | Mommapbs | 109765
Greetings Pastor Glenn - Martin Luther King Jr had a dream and he shared that dream with us; but would you say that we are any closer to realizing his dream today than when he first brought it to our attention? Is there more peace; is there more acceptance of others with differences today than there was then? (This is not just about race - neither was it for MLK.) And, one doesn't need to be a Christian to be a hypocrite. Anytime an individual (black, white or polka dotted) focuses on our differences rather than the similarities, he/she discriminates. Martin Luther King Jr 's vision for the world was one where peace reigned - and indeed, it will one Day! Certainly I am not "lumping the peaceful activists together with the evil unpeaceful ones," but our mission is to introduce others to the Prince of Peace. This is the "salt" and "light" we have that others need so desperately. Yet, I'm not sure that "Christian activism" is the best mode of its delivery. Blessings to you! mommapbs |

244 | Should Christians Tithe Today? | 2 Cor 9:7 | Mommapbs | 109756
Greetings and welcome to the Forum. Please use the Quick Search feature to read the posts on tithing. This question has been asked and discussed time and time again. It is a good idea to search the archives before you post a question. Jesus said, "render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's." Mt 22:21 Blessings, mommapbs |

245 | How many great commission ? | Matt 28:19 | Mommapbs | 109740
Greetings Ken John! What do YOU understand the 3 great commissions to be? David Chadwell in "Jesus'Two Great Commissions," identifies them as Evangelizm and Edification. The latter refers to to the progressive sanctification of the believer. (Heb 12:14) I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, this is just what I found. Blessings, mommapbs PS: As I reflect, what does "make disciples" entail? What is necessary for this to happen? A disciple is a follower of Jesus Christ. As my Pastor noted just yesterday, too many "followers" are stuck in their pews - they are stagnant. And you know what happens to stagnant water over time? It begins to stink! :-) |

247 | Christian Activism? | Matt 5:13 | Mommapbs | 109730
Greetings Hank! Great question. Should we "do whatever we can" or might this be better expressed as whatever God calls us to do? I think that recognizing the difference is important - without the sanction of God on out efforts, we are working on our own authority. What kind of effect should we expect from that? Many times, I see well meaning "Christians" grandstanding over issues that do nothing but garner negative media attention and result in a smearing of Christianity, in general. Am I afraid of the media, no of course not, but it does concern me when I see folks "take matters into their own hands" like James Kopp, who killed the husband of a woman I know. (Believe me, this has been a challenge for me. A wife has lost her husband and children have lost their father. I don't agree with abortion, but killing someone because he is exercizing his legal right to preform abortions is a heinous misappropriation of "justice.") God has allowed laws to be written and He may also allow for them to be repealed, but we must work THROUGH the system in submission to the authory that God has placed over us. Thankfully, our freedom of speech and our freedom to protest have not been taken away! As for me, I have not joined any picket-lines, but I do express my opposition to these, et al, when given an opportunity. (Eph 5:1-16.) I think that many believers are ignorant of their power source - greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4) - and as a result, they remain silent in the face of sin. (And silence is often interpresed as agreement. Sad.) A young man we knew was killed by a drunk driver. As a result, his parents have ACTIVELY campaigned for a change in the laws of NY to impose stiffer penalties for such offenses. God used a tragedy to get His people "in gear." Is this what it will continue to take to "wake us up?" I suspect that the syndrome of complacency has lulled many believers into such a deep slumber that they fail to hear the alarm ringing! BTW, the AFA did a great job in mobilizing God-fearing folks to ACT. Any other ideas that we might use to encourage one another to live as children of Light in this dark world? Blessings to you! mommapbs |

248 | Why does God not want yeast? | John | Mommapbs | 109703
See John 6:33-51 Yeast represents sin or false doctrine. Jesus is the sinless Bread of Life. Therefore, the bread was to be unleavened - without yeast as it is a forshadowing of Christ. Only the priests ate the holy meal as only believers partake of Christ. These are the parallels I see. This is just my opinion. Blessings, mommapbs |

249 | Why do we read the Old Testament? | Rom 6:14 | Mommapbs | 109666
Greetings fritzgirl001! We don't throw the baby out with the bath water and neither do we throw the Old Testmanet out because we have the New! When you are told that the Law does not apply today, it means that we don't observe the Law to obtain our salvation. Jesus fulfilled all of the Law's requirements and offered Himself as our Perfect Sacrifice to satisfy the demands of God for our sin. There are some excellent posts on this verse for you to read. Just click on the verse at the top of the page and then click on the green N. Blessings, mommapbs |

251 | My questions are needed as I am leading | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 109653
Greetings rboles0122 - Your opening question was incomplete. Do I understand that you need these questions answered because you are LEADING a Bible Study? This may sound harsh, but I must ask, if you don't know the answers to these questions, how can you lead anyone else to the Truth? You are no more than a blind guide. I am copying Hank's response to a reply you received: Angelpenned: "Salvation comes from believing in Jesus Christ," -- that would have been an excellent place to stop, without adding the phrase "securing your eternal destination through water baptism." The Bible says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son (unique, only one of His kind), that whoever BELIEVES in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." [John 3:16]. The Bible says, "For by grace you have been saved through FAITH, and that (salvation) not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast." [Ephesians 2:8,9]. ..... Man asks, "What must I do to be saved?" [Acts 16:30] ... The Bible answers, "BELIEVE in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved...[Acts 16:31] --Hank Understand that on this Forum, you will receive MANY different responses. Not all of them are reflective of God's Word. I encourage you to be like the Bereans, "they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so." Act 17:11 Please, before you teach others, study God's Word for yourself first. Know WHAT and WHY you believe, in this way you will be able to point others to the Truth too. "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." 2 Tim 3:16-17 May God bless and prepare you for His purposes as you open and study His Word. mommapbs |

252 | What's your surname? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 109652
Greetings Earnest. When a question is posted on the Forum, the replies are read by everyone who visits the homepage. 2 Tim 2:15 reminds us to accurately handle the Word of Truth. How do you think your "creative answers" do this? Has the original question been satisfactorily answered? Some folks come looking for an "apologetic" that they can use to answer those who question the authority of God's Word et al. Have we let them down? mommapbs |

Greetings chosen 1 "Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name." 256 | how many were gathered in the upper room | Acts 1:14 | Mommapbs | 109576
Greetings and welcome to the Forum! At least 16 were gathered. The Bible specifically names the 11 disciples and Mary, the mother of Jesus. Women and Jesus' brothers are plural, so we know that there were at least 4 others. Is this significant? I would say yes, for the church is made of of people we know and those we don't. The important point is that everyone there was united in their faith in Christ. (And what a mixed bag that must have been when you consider the backgrounds of some!) I suggest that the fact that they were unified in their faith and responding in continual prayer is an example that the church should aspire to today. Blessings, mommapbs |

258 | explain Kenosis | Phil 2:7 | Mommapbs | 109483
Welcome to the Forum. Please see this web site: kenosis.info - for an article written by Dan Musick. I have posted the author's conclusion below: Each of us is admonished, as was Timothy, to "study to show ourselves approved unto God, workmen that need not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth" (2 Tim 2:15). The great crisis in conservative, Bible-based teaching comes from a failure to be taught, and a failure to study the core doctrines of the Christian faith. Infidelity to God's Word is also tempting - no less than is infidelity to a marriage partner. New "truths" entice the faithful, as do new illicit relationships. Heresy is no respecter of godliness. This web page has been established for three purposes: (1) To help those who have not studied the two natures of Christ to understand the proper Biblical view of His humility, (2) To provide resources for those who understand the proper Biblical view to defend it, and (3) To provide resources for advancing the truth in a Christian world of ignorance, misinformation, apathy, and heresy. Corresponding to the purposes you will find in these links information to understand, inspiration to defend, and motivation to advance the truth wherever God has placed you. As you read the articles and books attached to this site, please remember that truth is not conservative or liberal. There is sound doctrine and there are false teachers. There is the Gospel and there is another gospel. There are those who have given their necks - they have been beaten, fed to lions and exiled for the truths we take for granted; and there are those whom our Lord said would be better off in the bottom of the sea with a millstone around their necks. There are the pure in heart who see Jesus, and there are those who, while seeing, do not see Him. The broad range of links at this site underscores the reality that the issue of Christ's full Deity is basic to Biblical, orthodox thought throughout history. In studying and discovering our Lord's undiminished Deity, it is our prayer that you, too, will lose yourself in the glory of Christ's humility. Mommapbs |

259 | What is the meaning of delight ? | Ps 37:4 | Mommapbs | 109467
Greetings! To delight in the Lord means to find satisfaction in Him. Happiness depends upon happenings or circumstances - not all of our experiences are pleasant. But this does not mean that we can not continue to "delight in the Lord" while in the midst of them. As we focus on Who God is (a study of the names of God is a great place to begin) and what He has done for us, we can ALWAYS "delight in Him." In fact, He is the ONLY ONE worth delighting in! Focusing our attention on the desires of our heart, (ie, to be happy as suggested by another post)is to violate the first commandment: "You shall have no other gods before Me." Ex 20:3 Anything we put before God is an idol. I hope this helps. Blessings, mommapbs |

260 | How long did Job suffer? | Job | Mommapbs | 109389
Greetings! A few days ago I posted this answer to angelgirl who asked the same question. God allowed Job to suffer to accomplish His plan and purpose - that Job might know God through it. "I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear; But now my eye sees You;" Job 42:5 (See Job 42:1-10.) To me, the length of time is insignificant but the outcome is what is important. When God removes a suffering, it demonstrates His sumpremacy. When God allows a suffering to remain, it demonstrates His sufficiency. There have been periods of suffering in my life that I thought would never end. Sometimes it was physical, other times it was emotional and more recently, it has been spritual. But through each of these experiences, I have grown closer to God and would not trade any of them! The secret to suffering is praise. I know it is a hard thing, but you can rejoice in the midst of suffering - we can ALWAYS praise and give thanks for Jesus! I hope this helps, mommapbs |
