181 | what does the scripture mean? | Is 9:6 | Mommapbs | 120491
Aixen7z4 writes: Jesus lets us know that following him will involve pain, that the Christian life is not a life of ease. Living for him will bring us into conflict with others, and I suppose that the sword is a symbol of conflict. This is only one of the many difficulties that one experiences because of his association with Christ (Luke 9:23;John 15:18). It is apparent that conflict within the family is quite painful for some people; painful to see and painful to experience (Jeremiah 15:10). And Jesus explains what he means by continuing to say that there would be divisions within natural families because of him: “a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law“ (Matthew 10:35). The language does seem strange because Jesus seems to be saying that he came for that purpose, to set us one against the other. Other Scriptures state that his purposes were otherwise (Luke 19:10; John 10:10). I suppose that he is saying, not that he desires these conflicts, but that these conflicts are an unavoidable consequence of his coming (John 16:33; 2 Timothy 3:12). True, as mommapbs has said, he does give personal peace (John 14:27). This peace is beyond human understanding (Philippians 4:7), and it reigns in the heart in spite of the conflicts. The believer has personal peace, and even joy, even when his family may misunderstand him and reject him. He will love them and want to be at peace with them, but his faith often makes that impossible. Unbelievers can be hostile and resentful towards believers. In some cultures it can be severe. That, I suppose, is the sword. Whether there should be conflict among believers is another matter. Within the household of faith, we are commanded to be at peace among ourselves (1 Thessalonians 5:13). We may not know exactly what difficulty tip is having with the statement quoted in the question, but this writer hopes that these thoughts, added to those that our sister has already given, are a useful contribution. |

182 | what does the scripture mean? | Is 9:6 | Mommapbs | 120465
Greetings tip - although Jesus is called the Prince of Peace, the peace that He brings is only available to those who accept Him. The reference in Matthew underscores that each one must answer Jesus' question: "Who do YOU say that I am? (Luke 9:20). Even in "christian" circles, this question divides, for there are those who reject the Diety of Jesus Christ and in doing so they align themselves with "Antichrist." God's Word reminds us that we are in the midst of a great spiritual battle (Eph 6:12). I hope this helps in your understanding of this verse. Blessings, mommapbs |

183 | Explain Hebrew 4:12 | Eph 6:17 | Mommapbs | 120380
Greetings mrsrock! If you input Heb 4:12 in the Questions/Notes on Verse field (upper left in the green bar) you can read what others have posted on this verse. In reading Hebrews 4:12 I am reminded of Eph 6:17. When we look at what the Lord has given to us in Eph 6 - the offensive weapon we have is the "sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God." Who wields this sword? The Spirit. As we read God's Word, the believer receives its benefits - intstruction, correction, reproof and training in righteousness(2 Tim 3:16). It is my opinion that Hebrews 4:12 can also be understood as a means by which God may convict the world of sin. (John 16:7-11)The thoughts and intentions of the heart can only be judged by God. (1 Sam 16:7) Blessings, mommapbs |

184 | people in OT who don't hear about Jesus | Romans | Mommapbs | 119329
Greetings! Read Romans 1. What may be known about God has been revealed to all men, so they are without excuse. Jesus died to pay the penalty for ALL sin. How God saves is up to Him and I trust HIS justice and mercy toward mankind. The problem with atheists is that they are really not, they have become their own god, for man was created to worship - and man will either worship the creator or the creation. Atheists pride keeps them from admitting that they are in need of redemption. They recognize that there is something missing, and suffering certainly makes this clear, but rather than turning to God, they believe that they have the power to "create" change and bring about a utopian society. Because they have chosen to reject God, their foolish minds have been darkened . . . keep shining. It is not YOU that they are rejecting but God (1 Sam 8:7) Blessings, mommapbs PS: You have to confront their worldview using science to your advantage. Ask, where did you come from and why are you here? REAL science has the answers - not evolution! See sites on creation science to help you forumlate your thinking. |

185 | Why are our nude bodys shamefull? | 1 John 5:3 | Mommapbs | 119327
Greetings! Nakedness is not wrong in the physical sense that one is nude, but because of God's revelation (Take a moment and READ Romans 1:16-32)even in cultures that live like this, there is still an awareness of "nakedness." In a previous post, heisthe1 wrote: "Before the fall, Adam and Eve, Gen 2:25, were both naked, "and not ashamed". The idea of nakedness is far more than mere nudity, it has the sense of being totally open and exposed as a person before God and man. To be naked and "not ashamed" means that you have no sin. Nothing to be rightly ashamed of - you really can be an open book to another person. Genesis 3:7, satans temptation was all the more powerful because there was truth in it. It was true that "your eyes will be opened, and this was fulfilled in this verse, but their eyes were instantly opened to their own sin and rebellion." Jesus counsels us in this age to recognize that we are blind, wretched and naked. (Rev 3:17) We have rebelled against Him - we have rejected His created order and dominion. Would you jump from an airplane without a parachute? No, becuse the law of gravity is in operation and you KNOW that you would fall to your death. What is the source of this law? Can you see this law? Is this law for our benefit? (Without it, we would al fly off the face of the earth!) Isn't it strange how we readily choose to obey God's physical laws and ignore His moral ones? God is the Creator, we are the created. He has established ALL laws for OUR BENEFIT! When we violate any laws, there are conseqences. God established a social and moral order from the beginning. He didn't create Adam and Steve, but Adam and Eve and gave this command - God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth." Gen 1:28 God's creation was entrusted to man to build upon - the family was the social foundation for the creation of culture. The created order of God has been understood by every society. For the Greeks it was called "logos," (Jesus is called the Word or logos - John 1:1) for the Eastern peoples it was called "tao." This established order has been percieved by pagan and western cultures alike - up until now as moral relativism has replaced moral law. So, consensual or not, anything that violates God's established laws for man will reap the consequences of that choice - which we are seeing today as the foundation of the family is being seriously eroded. Just because you don't recognize the "law" does not mean that you will not experience the results of its violation! Sadly, our culture has rejected God's Lordship over His creation. The consequences of this rejection are multiplying today, oh that people would open their eyes to their "nakedness!" Today Jesus warns the world, "'Because you say, 'I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,' and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked,I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see." Rev 3:17-18 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His ommandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. I pray that the Spirit of God will "work this out" for you! Blessings, mommapbs |

192 | "Your bread"?Or "loaves of Bread"? | NT general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 119012
Greetings Ray - re: your question, "whether this Man is capable of changing the stones into bread?" Does this not challenge the Divinity of Jesus and hence the sovereignty of God - which is, what I think, exactly what Satan was attempting? (pun intended) And the tempter came and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread." Mt 4:3 Your question reminds me of the father's request in Mark 9:22 " . . . But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!" I can just hear Jesus incredulous response, "If I can" ?!!! (v 23) Might He say also to your question: "If I CAN turn these stones into bread?" And the devil said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become (Your) bread." Luke 4:3 On another note, Greek or not, is the issue of possession in question in this passage? For God, as Creator, owns everything; He is sovereign over all and is not subject to the demand of ANY created being. (I think we forget this at times!) Thanks for giving me the opportunity to dig deeper into this passage! Blessings, mommapbs Psalm 34:8 |

193 | i need a little more information | Eph 6:14 | Mommapbs | 118934
Greetings, I'm not quite sure what you are after in this verse but the message is to the BELIEVER - the one who has already received the Truth and wears the righteousness of Christ - to STAND FIRM. You KNOW the Truth, now ACT on it; live your live on THIS foundation. I refer you to Luke 6:46-49. Notice that the one who comes to Christ, hears what He says and obeys His Word is able to withstand any assault the world hurls against it. People will not die for something they are not convinced is absolutely true. Are you willing to die for what you believe? Has this helped? Blessings, mommapbs |

194 | Favoritism? | Acts 10:34 | Mommapbs | 118932
Greetings! God chooses individuals or groups to fulfill His plans and purposes. This is not a display of favoritism, but rather a demonstaration of God's absolute sovereignty over His Creation (I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy Rom 9:15; Read also Jer 18:1-10, the account of God as the Potter and Israel the lump of clay) As a result of society's moral failure to seek God and find his hope in Him, God chose to raise up a special people group to whom He would commission His promises - that entity was the nation of Israel. "Israel was commissioned, in the midst of a sinful world, to show that still, if you follow God, commit your life to Him, if you obey what (God says), you can be delivered from the terrible consequences of sin. Israel was commissioned to touch a world and tell it about the love of God and about the prosperity and blessing that its people would know if they would follow the Lord." (Destiny Bulletin 4/04) Jesus was sent to the nation of Israel as the fiulfillment of God's promise.(see Mk 7:26-8) Because Israel rejected Christ, they have been set aside and have ceased to be God's instrument. And as a result of their rejection, we have been given the Torch; the Light of the Truth and promise of God has been passed to a new people group that knows no ethnic or racial boundaries - the Church of Christ. Spread the Light! Blessings, mommapbs |

195 | Another possible view? | Heb 9:23 | Mommapbs | 116217
Greetings Huron - here is what I promised to send for your consideration! As I study God's Word I begin to see a pattern emerge - things on earth are copies of things in Heaven. In teaching us to pray, Jesus said, "Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven." The Tree of Life was in the Garden (Gen 3:22) - it is also in Heaven (22:2). The earthly tabernacle was a pattern of the Heavenly one (Gen 25:9) The Ark of the Covenant is a copy of the Ark the John saw in Heaven. (Rev 11:19) Mt. Zion, the Holy mountain of God in Heaven (Heb 12:22) has an earthly counterpart on Earth (many references but esp. Joel 2:32 "And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.") And just perhaps, the 144,000 redeemed from the earth are IN HEAVEN (Rev 14:1) and their counterparts are the 144,000 sealed Jews of Rev 7 God copies - but don't forget that Satan counterfeits! Blessings, mommapbs |

196 | Holy Spirit or wind, breath, spirit? | Ps 51:3 | Mommapbs | 116151
Greetings Ray, After reading John 14:16,17 and 26 it makes sense to me to keep both Ez 36:27; 37:14 with Spirit. IMO this reference alludes to the passage in John. As far as Psalm 51:11 goes, if David is connecting God's presence with recognition of His Spirit, why lower s? Blessing, mommapbs |

197 | The Center of Truth | Mark 10:27 | Mommapbs | 115996
Greetings! "Odd" you ask? With God all things are possible! There was a drought in a farming community and the pastor of the small church called upon the people to go up on a mountain to pray. Dutifully they all assemnled to beseech the Lord, but only one woman brought an umbrella. This story represents how some "Christians" regard God's Word. We read what it says - take refuge in God and then what do we do? Trust man (self) - now THAT'S ODD! Blessings, mommapbs |

Greetings Huron - the believer is already purified 1 Cor 6:11 and the church has not yet been removed from the world. (you're reading this right?!) Why not post the question about the purification again and ask for some commentary on this? As far as copies of heavenly things goes, I did do a study on this but the file is on a different computer. If I don't get back to you in a few days - jog me again! (I'm babysitting for a couple of weeks and right now, the baby is asleep in the room with the PC) Blessings, mommapbs |

PFrance - God's Word records and reveals human nature through individuals that enable us to recognize our need for Him. Another observation is that God can use anyone, sinner or saint to accomplish His purposes. The following are some obscure women listed in the Old Testament: Huldah, Noadiah, Rizpah, Zeresh, Abishag, Taphath, Mehetabel, Azubah, Abijah, Abihail, Maacah, Mahalath mommapbs PS: What has prompted this question?
