261 | Ephesians 2:9-10 Good works ? | Rom 1:15 | Mommapbs | 109388
Greeetings Ken John! This is one of my favorite verses as my son illuminated its application during a very special time in his life (He was undergoing chemotherapy at the time.)He told me that this verse revealed to him that God had a plan for his life; he knew this because "he was still here." He said, if our work is done, we should be happy to go home to Heaven!" Anyway, we are GOD's WORKMANSHIP, created in Christ, (we are a new creature 2 Cor 5:17) for the purpose of "good works" - that God has prepared for us to do. (I like to remember that only God is good. see Luke 18:19) The conversion (new creation) comes first (Eph 2:8-9) and then the Lord does HIS work through us! Everything depends upon God! Anything we do apart from Him is like wood, hay and straw - read 1 Cor 3:9-15. Remember that Jesus told us, "Apart from me you can DO nothing." John 15:5 (emphasis mine) I hope this helps! 262 | Dead Man's Bones bring life? | 2 Kin 13:21 | Mommapbs | 109374
From this Scripture we assume that the man was dead. Is faith necessary for God to act as He wills? The bones of Elisha had no restorative power, but God does. As another example, read John 9:1-7 Did mud make the blind man see or did God? Verse 3 perhaps contain an answer to the account of the dead man and Elisha's bones: "it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him." I just offer this as something to consider; perhaps other have some different insight into the account of this event. Blessings, mommapbs |

263 | What is WWJD ? | Rom 1:15 | Mommapbs | 109373
WWJD is an anacronym (sp?) For "what would Jesus do?" I heard a message that challenged us to ask instead, "What is Jesus doing?" Blessings, mommapbs |

264 | Why believe in the physical Ressurection | Matthew | Mommapbs | 109227
Greetings! See 1 Cor 15:17. You wrote: "I can't argue certain points when I know the bible does not agree with itself in some pretty critical places. Namely, the resurrection account of the four authors of the Bible." The account is NOT the issue, the fact that Jesus was raised is. If you asked four different people to describe the same event, do you think that they would all see it the same way? Does their description of the event change the fact that this event took place? In the same way, the Gospel accounts record that the resurrection of Jesus took place. mommapbs |

266 | Being friends w/a married man; adultery? | Lev 20:10 | Mommapbs | 109164
God's Word prohbits adultery, not friendship. However, I suggest that it is easier (a danger than can be avoided!) to cross that line when the friendship is not with the married couple as a unit. mommapbs |

267 | Set me free of Israel and God, please! | Matt 22:37 | Mommapbs | 109162
Greetings Eduarda! God is not obligated to us; He does not HAVE to answer any of our prayers. God gives us a choice to receive or reject Him. To seek the His hand or what is in it. When we seek His hand we are extended grace. When we seek what is in it we will recieve the penalty for our sin, His wrath. As long as you continue to seek out of your selfishness, God will withhold, for He desires that you seek HIM first. God knows what you need - Him. He offers Himself to you. By your words, you show that you are angry and disappointed that God has not met YOUR expectations of Him. The Hebrew Shema affirms the position of mankind to God. Ascribing sovereingty to God it causes one to ask, what do You have for me? And what is it that God has for each of us? His love, as demonstrated by the sacrificial death of His only Son Jesus (Romans 5:8). I urge you to stop measuring God's love for you with human standards. When you seek Him with your whole heart, you will find Him. All day long He holds out His hand to you - look for His hand, not for what you want to find. Blessings, mommapbs |

268 | Is THE SABBATH ON A SATURDAY | John 20:19 | Mommapbs | 109099
Greetings! "For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and made it holy. Ex 20:11 Yes, the Sabbath Day in Scripture is what we call Saturday. Jesus fulfilled the Law for us. He is the fulfillment of God's promise to man (and to Israel!) When Jesus stood before His disciples on "the evening of the first day of the week," I believe He was affirming our assembly as well as the Sabbath. The evening of the first day of the week would be sundown of the Sabbath Day. This would be a time of celebration. And isn't it appropriate that The reason to celebrate, appeared before them at this time! This is why I believe that we observe Sunday as a day of corporate worship. I do not have any information about any church declaring one day or another as THE appropriate day - we should worship EVERY DAY. But since Jesus appeared to them as a group on this day, I believe that we should consider Sunday as our day of gathering together to worship Him. These are just my thoughts. mommapbs |

269 | how long did God allow Job to suffer? | Rom 8:18 | Mommapbs | 109027
Greetings angelgirl! God allowed Job to suffer to accomplish His plan and purpose - that Job might know God through it. "I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear; But now my eye sees You;" Job 42:5 (See Job 42:1-10.) To me, the length of time is insignificant but the outcome is what is important. When God removes a suffering, it demonstrates His sumpremacy. When God allows a suffering to remain, it demonstrates His sufficiency. There have been periods of suffering in my life that I thought would never end. Sometimes it was physical, other times it was emotional and more recently, it has been spritual. But through each of these experiences, I have grown closer to God and would not trade any of them! The secret to suffering is praise. I know it is a hard thing, but you can rejoice in the midst of suffering - we can ALWAYS praise and give thanks for Jesus! I hope this helps! mommapbs |

270 | Does the text in 1Tim 3:12 mean what it | Matt 5:32 | Mommapbs | 108997
Greetings and welcome to the Forum. I have copied a post by Tim Moran, who's counsel I truly appreciate and look for on this Forum. You can also read through the discussion associated with this verse in Matthew by clicking on the link to the verse and then click on the "green n" beside the reference. Question: As a believer in Jesus Christ and still single, am I free (have the "liberty") to marry a divorced woman who also professes to be Saved by God's grace? Answer: Greetings Bigjim! You really need to address this issue with a local pastor. It is not really advisable to either counsel or receive counsel on an internet forum. There are too many personal factors which must be taken into consideration. Generally speaking, I know that I take the following approach as a pastor. 1) Was the divorce for legitimate reasons? Scripture allows divorce for adultry. If this were the case, I would say that you could marry her. 2) Was the divorce prior to her becoming a Christian? I don't 'count' things done before someone became a Christian. 3) Did she initiate the divorce? It is very easy to get a divorce these days. I don't hold divorce against someone who had no choice in the matter. Other than these three exceptions, I would say that marrying a divorced person is adultry. But, you really need to speak with a local pastor about such an important issue! If you don't have a local pastor, e-mail me (Morant62@hotmail.com) and I'll see if I can get you in touch with a good pastor. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran Mommpabs writes: see number 2 in Tim's advice. I suspect that this qualifies you for the position. Don't let the "legal beagles" rob you of what God has placed before you! Blessings, mommapbs |

271 | was there a judgment or the gap theory" | Gen 1:1 | Mommapbs | 108995
Greetings! This is a Bible Study Forum not a place to discuss "theories." Frankly, the most important Truth for you to understand is found in the first four words. Whether or not there was a "gap" is immaterial to that! Do a web search if you want to see what men have to say. Stick with the Bible if you want to know what God says. Blessings, mommapbs |

272 | Restoration of a fallen Pastor | Gen 1:1 | Mommapbs | 108992
1 Tim 3:2 states that the "overseer" or Pastor is to be above reproach. In the The Amplified version : "Now a bishop (superintendent, overseer) must give no grounds for accusation but must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, circumspect and temperate and self-controlled; [he must be] sensible and well behaved and dignified and lead an orderly (disciplined) life; [he must be] hospitable [showing love for and being a friend to the believers, especially strangers or foreigners, and be] a capable and qualified teacher," See also Titus 1:7. Does this Pastor fit this description? God knows what is best for him and for your church. God desires restoration - but I agree with what you have been told, not to the position of "overseer." You also have had some excellent counsel to love as Jesus did, ministering with the deisre to restore the fallen to a right relationship with the Lord - this is the most important thing to consider right now. I understand your hurt - praying with you and for you! Blessings! mommapbs PS: Nothing can hurt your witness more than to act in an un-Christlike manner to one another. They (unbelievers) will know that we are Christians because we love one another. Jesus said, "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." John 13:35 |

277 | family salvation | Acts 16:31 | Mommapbs | 108799
Greetings! Romans 14:12 reminds us the EACH of us must give an account before God. We can not rely upon the faith of others for our personal salvation. "And they answered, Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ [give yourself up to Him, take yourself out of your own keeping and entrust yourself into His keeping] and you will be saved, [and this applies both to] you and your household as well." Acts 16:13 Amplified version - the action is "to believe" and it applies to everyone - ALL those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ will be saved. It is a promise and also a choice that is available to everyone. Blessings, mommapbs |

278 | Deuteronomy 22:28-29 what does it mean? | Deut 22:28 | Mommapbs | 108798
Greetings pollerana9 and welcome to the Forum. Read the discussion on this passage at post 19699 - input this number in the Quick Search field. As far as I can see, love has nothing to do with this - rape is a violent, self-centered expression of sin and both become victims - thankfully, Jesus died to save us from the penalty of this sin, but the earthly consequences of the action remain intact. God's laws are for OUR benefit - the law makes us aware of sin!(Romans 3:20) Perhaps if a man understood the penalty,50 shekels of silver (where can those be found?), and marriage to his victim with no chance of "parole," ( which may be a fate worse than death . . .) he might be deterred from acting upon his lust. Please remember that following the law can never justify us before God. (Eph 2:8-9 et al) Blessings, mommapbs |

279 | reject God ad free will? | Luke 4:8 | Mommapbs | 108796
Greetings! Yes, God is affected by our choices! God loves us (John 3:16) and His desire is for none of us to live apart from Him (2 Peter 3:9) - He grieves that we reject His love.(Gen 6:6) He is a jealous God;(Ex 20:5;34:14) He longs for us to return His love - a love that is focused upon Him alone.(Mt 22:37) The human relationship of marriage is a picture of the type of relationship that God desires from us - a union that is characterized by mutual love and faithfulness. We were made made by and for God - for our mutual love and enjoyment. When man rejected God in the Garden, sin entered and spoiled our relationship with Him. God has sought to restore this relationship with man since that day! Because of sin, man could never meet God's standard of holiness that was required for our restoration. So until Christ, man has lived an alienated existence with his Creator. Those who God accepts into His eternal rest are those who have believed Him. They can DO nothing to earn this grace; it is a free gift. (Eph 2:8-9) Nothing has changed, we are still saved by grace on the basis of our faith - faith in God and what HE has and done and promised. Read Hebrews 11. Abraham believed God and it was creditied to him as righteousness - this means that God gave him "right standing" (even though he weas a sinner)on the basis of his faith. Abraham had a choice: he could believe or reject God. He had free will just like we do. God's greatest gift to us was not free will - it is Jesus Christ and His gift of grace, God's unmerited favor toward us. (See Romans 5; 2 Cor 9:15) We can either accept Christ's substitutionary death on the cross for our sins or we can try to please God in our own way. Please read 1 John. (the whole book!) Indeed we have the freedom of choice! I agree, when we know the terms or the consequences of our choices,it sure seems to be a no-brainer, so why do so many people reject God's awesome offer of salvation? Romans 1 gives some insight into this. The problem for man is pride - this ugly choice remains the same to day as it was in the Garden. We have a choice: God's Way (John 14:6) or our way . . . there is a way that SEEMS RIGHT (emphasis mine) to man, but the end thereof is death!(Prov 14:12) I can appreciate the questions that you have, but I also want to remind you to not let the volume of your thinking drown out what God is saying to you through His Word. Please read the references that have been provided and ask God to reveal Himself to you. "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS." Heb 4:7 "Seek the LORD while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near." Is 55:6 Blessings, mommapbs |

Greetings Wanda - God has created each person with an awareness of Himself.(v 19) As a result, these verses teach us that NO one is without an excuse before God. I encourage you to trust God and His Word, beware of those who do not recognize the authority of Scripture! I know that this is a difficult concept to deal with, but as your learn more about the heart and nature of the Lord, you will understand this passage more clearly. Pray and be patient. God will revel what HE wants you to know in due time. Been there . . . Blessings, mommapbe |
