301 | Why most translations are different? | Matt 18:18 | Mommapbs | 107358
Greetings and welcome to the Forum. God would not be sovereign if He was controlled by the whims of man (For this we should be most thankful!) God does not follow the decisions of man . . . but He does allow the decisions of man to have their consequences. As I read this verse in the Amplified Version, I believe that God is the ultimate Authority and yet He allows us to enjoy its exercize by our faith and willingness to honor Him as THE Authority of what is right and what is wrong. This verse illuminates how Jesus criticized the pharisees when they tried to justify their "rules" apart from God. See Mt 15:3-9 (TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE PRECEPTS OF MEN.'" v9)In this instance, what is honorable in Heaven is not what is being done my men on earth! Click on the verse and then click on the green "N" - you can read an extensive discussion on this verse there. If you still have further questions, re-post or submit a note. I hope this helps! Greetings Edie - your request for more information has resulted in Tara1 disclosing his/her "theology". For this I thank you. As far as Searcher's response to your further quest for more resources, I can understand how you might "assume" that he was a bit abrupt or curt. However, since it appeared that Tara1 had given you an answer to your original post, anyone would be a bit confused as to why you asked for more resources. Please cut Searcher some slack, he has been a long time Forum member with many fine posts to his credit. I hope you will come to appreciate him as others do. Blessings, mommapbs |

304 | Christ and war | Is 9:6 | Mommapbs | 107163
Greetings! I think you have received some excellent insight - just what you said you were after here . . . if you want to hear what Hank has to say, copy your post and attach it to something Hank has posted. This way, he will be sure to see it as we recieve via e-mail a notice that someone has responded to something we have written. At least that's how I handle this. At other times, it is valuable to get a broader perspective on issues as Hank would agree that he is but one voice and not the Authority! My 2 cents: I agree that the stage is being set to fulfill the prophetic Word. Jesus plainly told us that the Peace He gives us is not what the world has to offer or expects (He IS THE PEACE!) John 14:27. He also told us "Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword." Mt 10:34. Worth pondering isn't it? Merry Christmas! mommapbs |

306 | Should women preach over the pulpit | 1 Cor 14:34 | Mommapbs | 106614
Greetings and welcome to the Forum. This topic has been discussed MANY times. You can read the notes on this verse (click on the green N) or input words such as women preach in the "Quick Search" field at the top right column of this page. I hope that you receive some clarification from reading previous postings on this topic. As for me, I believe that women have a place in the church, but not in the position of shepherd or overseer. Greetings FytRobert! It is good to hear from you again. EdB gave you some solid advice. I would like to add my two cents worth though. Prior to any decision, prayer (and much prayer, I think) is in order! "The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much." James 5:16b May God bless you and your church as you consider the Lord's will . . . mommapbs |

308 | Two beginnings? | John 1:1 | Mommapbs | 106543
Greetings and welcome to the Forum! My initial (reasoning) response is that since God is eternal, He has no beginning or end. If something has a beginning (or genesis), it is a created thing; it therefore is not God. Even when Jesus appeared in the flesh He announced "before Abraham was born, I AM." (John 8:58) He always existed; He had no beginning. Eternity past had no beginning either, therefore the beginning in both Genesis and and John could be the same event in time. "In the beginning GOD," and "In the beginning was the Word,"further expands our information about the nature of the Godhead "in the beginning!" Just some thoughts for you to consider! Blessings mommapbs PS: As a scientist, how does first law of theromdynamics or the conservation of matter align with God's Word? Once created, what happens to it? Can it be destroyed? ie. once created is it infinite in existence? I think about these things sometimes . . . |

309 | what is antichrist? | 1 John 2:18 | Mommapbs | 106385
Hi again wps! Yes, there will be a literal person. The "spirit" of antichrist is also very evident in the world. I am interested in your definition of a "Christian." What we believe about antichrist does not determine our standing before God; what we believe about His Son, Jesus does. See also: 1 John 2:22; 4:3; 1 John 1:7 mommapbs |

Greetings and welcome to the Forum! Do look for some answers in the Forum's archives. What you read there may help or prompt new questions for the Forum to consider. Input 45785 into the "Quick Search" field at the top of the right column on this page. Also, in the "Book Chapter:verse" field you can type Rev 17. When you look at the verses, any letter N that appears in gree has a question or a note associated with it. Take a look at what others have written. Lastly, I have gleaned much from www.revelationcommentary.org by the Solagroup.org - I hope these suggestions help. Blessings, mommapbs |

311 | Isaiah61:3says oaks of righteousnessWhy? | Matt 15:13 | Mommapbs | 106229
Greetings! I'm not sure if there is any signifigance to the "oak" tree - there are many trees mentioned in the Bible. The phrase that stands out to me is "the planting of the Lord." It is especially meaningful in light of the contrast found in Mt 15:13 which declares that those things not "planted" by God will be pulled up by the roots - think about this as a word picture. If the roots are what the Lord goes after, then nothing will remain to grow again. Think about the kind of things that God doesn't plant. Some might be seeds of doubt, fear, confusion, pride . . . the things that God doesn't plant also may be the "good deeds" that we do apart from Christ (self effort). This could possibly be a reference to the final removal of the presence of sin. Thanks for bringing forth this verse, it sure is something to think about . . . Blessings, mommapbs |

313 | I pray Thee and then He will hear? :)) | 2 Chr 6:40 | Mommapbs | 105573
Greetings Ray - I don't know if I understand your question here . . . but this is that track I am following . . . We pray for God to see and hear and He responds. Now, contrast these verses with Eph 1:18 where Paul says, "I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints," To me, this verse reminds us to choose to see things from God's perspective - that WE are HIS treasure, His inheritance and that gives us great value and immeasurable worth, for we were bought with the precious blood of Christ! He sees and listens to us, His dear children! Blessings, mommapbs |

315 | mommapbs .. you proved my point well | 1 Thess 5:15 | Mommapbs | 105186
Greetings again Joel - for whatever reason, you have taken offense with the posts of others, yet when you are offensive, it bothers you not. Can you offer an explanation? I am surprised and saddened by your response - what I offered you was not a stick or a stone but the very words of God's Word. Who do you think is insulted? We all are, for we are all members of one body. I trust that you will take something other than a bitter spirit away from this Forum. None of us are perfect, none of us have the answers and none of us are above being taught. I'm sorry you took offense by my post, I suspect that you are fighting other battles that we know nothing about. God does though and HE is MORE than able to sustain and provide for you IN CHRIST. Praying for you, mommapbs |

316 | don't be a LOSER | 1 Thess 5:15 | Mommapbs | 105154
Dear Joel K - I read your post and the references you cited. My response is to answer with Scripture as well. I recall writing to you a while back that it is not WHAT you know but WHO you know. "but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things," declares the LORD." Jer 9:24 You wrote that Jesus is your only teacher. Do you know HIM? Do you really know WHAT He taught? You wrote: "What a loser" Did He teach you to judge or malign your brothers and sisters? "Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned." Lk 6:37 "bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you." Lk 6:28 "But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, 'You good-for-nothing,' shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, 'You fool,' shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell." Mt 5:22 James admonishes us: "But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger;" He reminds us that "no one can tame the tongue; (or the typing fingers) it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God;from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be this way." James 1:19;3:8-10. This is a sign I saw today that we all would do well to take to heart: "Wisdom is knowing when to speak your mind and when to mind your speech." I suggest that if a Forum member has specifically offended you, it would be wise (as well as obedient)to follow the instruction of Jesus in Mt 18. My prayer for you is that you will desire to be teachable. God may even be trying to teach you through this Forum, He has taught me much here! mommapbs |

317 | Do we understand agapao/ agape (love)? | Luke 11:43 | Mommapbs | 105112
Searcher - just wondering if anyone (apart from God) can experience this type of love? Would it be prideful (or even border on blasphemy) to claim that we are able to love like this? momma |

318 | How does this vs fit your view of love? | Luke 11:43 | Mommapbs | 105111
Greetings Searcher! It would seem to me that if agapao love is to be reserved to/for and of God alone, Jesus is making a stronger statement here than we might at first perceive. What do you think - is this consistent with what Jesus has taught in Mt 6:24? mommapbs |

319 | What was John's purpose in writing the b | John 20:31 | Mommapbs | 105110
Greetings! "Many other signs therefore Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name." John 20:30,31 John had two purposes for writing the Gospel of John. 1) Revelation of Christ's true nature. "that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God" Jesus IS God. 2) Regularly experience a changed life. "that believing you may have life in His name" See also 1 John 1:1-4. mommapbs |
