2161 | 'virgin' after oral sex? | 1 Cor 6:18 | azurelaw | 178580
Dear Jandac, I believe you know quite well whether or not you are a virgin. By physical (worldly) definition - I would say yes. However, do you think God's standard is same as the world's? If so, why ask? If not, why ask for definition? What the Lord asks of us is very clear in the Bible as Steve and Joanna have posted. Didn't Jesus say : Then give Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's (Luke 20:25). Are you the world's? or Are you God's? If you are seeking biblical advice: repent, and do not do it again (Jesus has taught us how to pray - ... lead us not into TEMPTATION, but deliver us from evil...) Speaking the truth in love Azure |

2162 | Where did our conscience come from? | Rom 2:15 | azurelaw | 178424
Dear Doc, I am glad that you spare your time on the issue. In fact, I have been studying it as well for these two weeks in my leisure time, but I just don't have the time to write a post (I think it is rather lengthy) of what I have had in mind at the moment. I hope I can make my response within this week. Your such additional quote is very interesting. Let me end here for the time being. :-) Shalom in Christ. Azure |

2163 | Where did our conscience come from? | Rom 2:15 | azurelaw | 178102
Dear Jeff, Thanks for responding. My previous post is to respond to Rebar's comment "...it seems to me ...Romans 1:18-20...where Paul is saying our conscience is something created in us by God..., and the knowledge of the right way of things is built into us" (I omit some words in order to focus on the point I refer). So you can see from my questions and the quote of verses from Gen, my point is: 1/ If conscience is created in us, this should have been built in by God when He created Adam and we inherit it from Adam. However, comparing the 2 verses I quoted, I hardly see that consicence is created in us in the creation. 2/ The second question is that assume my above understanding is incorrect, I would consider our conscience did not work before Adam and Eve's fall (they ate the fruit of the knowledge tree), but was triggered to function after then. Despite my questions above, I don't think Romans 1:18-20 contradicts the verses of Gen discussed. There must be something I missed in understanding the whole picture which I need to clarify. However, in brother Doc's post responding to my above questions, he mentioned about Jesus Christ salvation in restoring Adam's sin. This could be an added insight for me to think and digest the issue for futher digging. Hope my point is clear now. So, what's your thoughts? Love in Christ. Azure |

2164 | Where did our conscience come from? | Rom 2:15 | azurelaw | 178085
Dear Rebar, Gen 2:9 And out of the ground the Lord God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight or to be desired--good (suitable, pleasant) for food; the tree of life also in the center of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of [the difference between] good and evil and blessing and calamity Gen 3:5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing the difference between good and evil and blessing and calamity. This is what Satan said when tempting Adam and Eve. One of consequences was that the couple's eyes were opened and they knew right and wrong. 1/ Do we get our conscience after the fall of Adam and Eve? or 2/ Was our conscience triggered after they after ate the forbbiden fruit from the knowledge tree? God bless. Azure |

2165 | 1 King 15:14 Asa had gone astray? | 1 Kin 15:14 | azurelaw | 178013
Thanks Doc, Hope I can make myself clear with my limitation of English. When studying King 1 and 2 and the Chronicles, shall I view that in King, there are God's comments on the leaders or specific persons mentioned pertaining to His final judgement on their lives before Him? Whereas the Chronicles record in detail the works (be they right or wrong) of the leaders or specific persons. Hope you understand what I have written. In Christ. Azure N.B. I remember when I was a teenager, I saw a horrible God in the OT. He punishes, kills, easily gets angry with His people. However, after I grew up and read the OT again, I was so much wrong. What I have seen is a God full of great mercy and love. He cannot wait to be gracious to us. There are times I was so much moved when reading the scriptures and I cried. God is so good we don't deserve anything from Him. Hallelujah, Praise the Lord! |

2166 | Understanding being saved. | 2 Tim 2:15 | azurelaw | 177998
Dear Liliesofthefield, Your example is interesting, but can you provide biblical examples to elaborate the understanding of sins attributing to Blaspheming against the Holy Spirit? I guess the example you put here is a made-up one not a factual one, thus I have reservation in agreeing to such explanation. I would be glad to see your scriptural based examples to clear the same doubt of mine. God bless. :-) Azure |

2167 | 1 King 15:14 Asa had gone astray? | Not Specified | azurelaw | 177920
1 King 15:14 second part Asa's heart was fully committed to the Lord all his life (NIV) or all his days (both NASB and Amplified). 2 Chronicles 16, it mentioned that: Asa had done a foolish thing that he relied on the king of Aram (verse 7 to 9) Asa showed his resentment toward the seer's charge. He also relied not on God but the physicians concerning his feet illness. So, how should we interpret the description on 1 King 15:14 second part? Did Asa finally repent before his death? Thanks and in Christ. Azure |

2169 | Lead worship with Jesus sitting there??? | Ps 111:1 | azurelaw | 177904
Dear brother Edward, I apologize for my mistake. I have confused your subject with another posting (by Margeret) which talks about the worship and praise of sinful(?) leaders in church. However, my guess is that you could be responding to the similar context of the subject. Kindly correct me if I misunderstood you. And yet, are you posting a question? :-) God bless. Azure |

2170 | Lead worship with Jesus sitting there??? | Ps 111:1 | azurelaw | 177903
Dear brother Edward, Welcome to the forum. From what you have posted here, it seems that it is not a question but just a follow-up note of comment on the primary question you asked few days ago. May I suggest that you click the suitable classification of post when you do posting so that the website won't left with too many questions??? (in fact it is not) unswered. By doing so, other readers will find it easier to follow the subject as well. God bless you. Azure |

2171 | Can angels sing? | Job 38:7 | azurelaw | 177751
Thanks for your encouragement, Doc. I will keep on praying God for his mercy and grace to keep me in His way and know Him more. Love in Christ. Azure |

2172 | Can angels sing? | Job 38:7 | azurelaw | 177739
Dear Hank, Thanks for your answer - a lengthy one indeed. So thank you for your time as well. I agree to your argument that the issue of angel singing does not hinder/help us on our salvation and understanding of God, the translation of God's word does. I really need to get one or two more bibles for my study as my interaction with you - brothers and sisters on this forum - reveals that I am not serious or hardworking enough on bible study. :-( God bless you Azure |

2173 | Can pastors retire? | Bible general Archive 3 | azurelaw | 177703
Dear CDBJ, Thanks for your response. I think we are in accord with the view that true believers won't retire from serving God in all aspects of life, be he a layman or a pastor. Changing fields? I hardly say agree or not. I believe that God assigns different herds of sheep to different shepherds, examples I can think of are : the Israelite in Egypt to Moses, gentiles to Paul. Perhaps the retirment system employed in most churches today confuse us. The last thing I would say, we should give great honour and respect (as Paul has taught) to all submissive pastors (whether retired or not). God bless. Azure |

2174 | Can angels sing? | Job 38:7 | azurelaw | 177702
Dear Hank, Yes, in searching the NASB or the Amplified version, there is no mention about angels sing. However, I have just found out in my NIV bible the following verse: Revelation 5:11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they SANG: "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, ...." Translation problem? God bless Azure |

2175 | Can pastors retire? | Bible general Archive 3 | azurelaw | 177668
Dear Carol, Welcome to the forum and thanks for your input. After reading your post and the verses quoted, they have supported my belief (pretty much in line with Doc) that there is no retirement for pastors. Love in Christ Azure |

2176 | Can pastors retire? | Bible general Archive 3 | azurelaw | 177652
Hi Doc, Wow, I am amazed! You are speaking in tongues of my language (Cantonese)! I wonder if you are a Hong Kong citizen or your wife is. Did you live in Hong Kong before? OK, back to the subject: no, there is absolutely no restriction from the HK government on importing books or literature. The only limitation is the market demand here. Few weeks ago, I was trying to find the book "90 minutes in heaven" (also by John Piper? if I remember correctly) in a local book store - The Page One (so call sizable here, funny that they don't have a website as per my previous enquiry) which mainly sells English books. However, there wasn't a single copy exist. Therefore, I had to ask my friend in Canada to get me one when she comes back to HK next month. Nice talking to you, brother. God bless you and your family. 2178 | 1 Corinthians 7:17 to 28 | 1 Cor 7:19 | azurelaw | 177647
Dear Lionheart, Thanks for your help. What you have said is similar to what I have in mind. Thanks for strengthening my thought. However, concerning my questions on 1 Corinthian 7:25 to 28, I am still not clear. Can you help me out? In Christ. Azure |

2179 | Can pastors retire? | Not Specified | azurelaw | 177635
First of all, I would like to declare that I mean no offence to any retired pastors here (if any). My question is generated from my curiosity and my understanding or perseption as to the life-long commitment of a pastor. If I am wrong, kindly correct me with scritpural support. My question is: Can a pastor retire? or Can a pastor not retire? My understanding is that once a person is called to commit himself fully to serve Christ (here, of course I should not limit it to the pastor, instead, every Christian should commit his/her life fully and life-long to Christ) as a pastor, can he retire someday just like those people having their retirement in the society? We see so many examples in the Bible - Moses, Paul, Peter - who demonstrated a life-long pastoring a certain group of people until death, why do we have retired pastors nowadays? Thanks for any scriptural guidiances. God bless you all. Azure |
