2101 | the book of Job | Job 42:7 | azurelaw | 182383
1/ Where was that spirit from? God? or Satan? I suppose it was not from God for God rebuked Eliphaz (42:7) for what he said about Him. 2/ Was it natural that people at that time regard disasters, illness, etc. as symbols of God's punishment on one's sinful acts? In that case, we could understand why Job's 3 friends had those comments against Job. 3/ Job's 3 friends were indeed very sincere (it seems to me) as we can see how they reacted when they saw Job (2:11 to 13). I hardly see people (include me) nowadays treat their friends in such manner. Strange is that Job did not get any comfort from them but more hurt instead. What lesson can I learn in the book of Job regarding friendship? Shalom Azure |

2102 | If we have any knowledge | 1 Cor 12:7 | azurelaw | 181927
Dear Steve, First of all, greetings to you and wish you a wonderfully blessed New Year. I love your note. I will save it in my file. It reminds me of how I stumbled and failed in the past due to my own arrogant and ignorant. However, my loving God did not forsake me but dealt me. It was really painful but totally out of His grace and love. 11 Heb 12:5-6 "My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by him; for those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom he receives." 2103 | Church for believers only? | Acts 2:39 | azurelaw | 181361
Thanks Hank for the detailed answer. I think I should have known it but just the concept is not clear enough though. We have 2 different words in Chinese for church. One renders the meaning of the organization or building, the other refers to the body of Christ. So, when I read the English "church", sometimes I have been confused. Now, I will not be confused anymore. Shalom Azure |

2105 | Church for believers only? | Acts 2:39 | azurelaw | 181327
Dear Doc, Your quote : "... by taking in persons who have never been born again ... it is a loss rather than a gain... " Is the church solely (both physical and functional) for believers? What I have experienced in my church, we have couples with unbelieving spouses joining us. Some finally repent, some not yet. We also have a sister in our cell group who admitted that she converted to Christ but still cannot restrain from her adultery behaviour (we have talked to or even scolded her about her sinful behaviour already, but she said she cannot stop it and perfer the man over going to church). However, she is so much attracted by our fellowship that she keeps on joining us (our cell group gathering). We would like to keep her in hoping that she would not be lost forever. We really don't know what to do but prayers. Shalom Azure |

2107 | Comforting scriptures and poems | Not Specified | azurelaw | 180829
Our dear and loving retired old pastor has become widowed a month ago. He lives alone for his only daughter lives in America. Yesterday, when he shared with us in the prayer group, he said he was still making his way to adapt to the loneliness. Everything at home reminds him of his beloved wife. I want to email him some comforting scriptures and poems which can make him feel the sweetness of our Lord Jesus, but nothing comes to my mind. Any recommendation? Thanks. Shalom Azure |

2109 | Desire for GOOD? | Hebrews | azurelaw | 180546
Brother CDBJ, Your words are touching indeed. Yes, Jesus - the silent Lamb, could be silent no more at the moment when he was forsaken by God his father for our sin. How could we understand! How could we understand! I always have a kind of mixed feeling during Christmas and Easter. Partly joyful (for we are saved and reconciled with God through Jesus) and partly grieved for how Jesus has suffered for us - sinners. We - Chinese, have a saying like "Your pleasure and happiness should not be in the expense of other's misfortune and grief" How ironically is that our hope and salvation is totally depended on Jesus' suffering, death and resurrection. Jesu, joy of men's desiring... Shalom Azure |

2114 | The risk of emptying oneself? | NT general Archive 1 | azurelaw | 180455
Dear Tim, Glad to have you on this forum. Yes, it is sky-blue, my favourite colour. I am happy to see that while most of the teens now are pursuing their lives in the worldly joy and lusts, you are devoting yourself to studying the word of God. What a blessing! I would like to encourage you persevere it. Don't give up. It would be a long and hard road but surely blessed with God's grace abundantly. Matt 19:27 Then Peter said to Him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed You; what then will there be for us?" 28: And Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29: "And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or farms for My name's sake, will receive many times as much, and will inherit eternal life. 30 "But many who are first will be last; and the last, first. I always remind myself with verse 30. Shalom Azure |

2115 | Genesis 3:16-17 | NT general Archive 1 | azurelaw | 180453
Dear Jeff, Thank you for your kind words. I also admire your ability to explain or elaborate the context of scriptures in an easy and readable manner. I feel ashamed of myself that I might have spoilt this master's (Mr. Lewis) work due to my poor translation. (Hope he will forgive me in heaven) That's why I have mentioned that someone on this forum will be able to provide the original as I read in the past posts, there are fans of Lewis here. I think I should not content myself with the Chinese edition and I certainly need to buy an English copy. Shalom Azure |

2116 | Genesis 3:16-17 | NT general Archive 1 | azurelaw | 180424
Ephesian 5:22-30, Paul had given us the idea of how men and women relate in Christian marriage. C.S. Lewis, in his book "The Four Loves" Chapter 4 - eros, did comment that only when the husband sacrifice himself to and love his wife as what Christ did to the church, the husband should claim himself the head of the wife. (Sorry, I have only got a Chinese version this book. Therefore, I cannot quote exactly the wordings of Mr. Lewis'. I trust someone on the forum is able to provide the oringal quote.) God bless Shalom Azure |

2119 | Whats a womens place in the Church? | 1 Tim 2:12 | azurelaw | 180348
Dear Steve, Then, did Seth bear the image of God since Adam was made according to the image of God? Do you mean that before Adam's eating of the forbidden fruit, God's image was still reflected on him. However, after that, Adam beared no more of God's image but just a sinful image. Thus, Seth (since he was born after the fall) beared only the image of Adam? Thanks in advance for your elaboration Shalom Azure |
