21 | "He shall be called a Nazarene."? | Matt 2:23 | newoldstock | 145471
I can't believe that this string is resurected after all this time! I'm baaaaaack. Yes, there is a big difference between Nazarite and Nazarene and this verse still perplexes me, but I know that my Lord Jesus is in control and not old Jim so some day He will clear it up for me. Amen.
22 | How about the other sheep | John 14:6 | newoldstock | 107971
How about the other sheep that I mentioned in the question? If you were born in a Muslim or Jewish or Budist country, it is likely you will be one! In some cases you would be killed, etc. if you didn't follow Mom and Dad's religion. How about them? Hell for eternity?
23 | Are there other ways to salvation ? | Not Specified | newoldstock | 107940
Are there any ways to salvation other than a personal relationship with Jesus Christ? This question keeps coming up in every church that I have attended. What about babies who die young, aborted babies, aborigines, remote pygmies in Africa, Godly Jewish folks, good Muslims, and so on and so on add infinitum? Help me with this. How do I answer grieving parents and Christ seekers? |

25 | Can one who commits suicide be saved? | Ex 20:13 | newoldstock | 106163
This has been a very interesting sub-thread. The UMC that I left after 20 years of membership had 2 pastors that believed that all people would have a chance after death to accept Christ. They believed that all would be saved. It is called Christian Universalism and is the main reason that I left that church.
26 | Is | Rom 10:9 | newoldstock | 104769
This is your answer. This is what is required to be saved. However Jesus was fully man and fully God. Gnostics believed He was Sprit and not fully man. God Bless. Jim Rom 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; Rom 10:10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. Rom 10:11 For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED." Rom 10:12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; Rom 10:13 for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED." |

27 | God chose what man to escape his enemies | Gen 1:1 | newoldstock | 103878
I am sorry that I did not give you verse backup earlier. I posted the answers quickly before dinner and did not have time to look them up for you. They are: Ex 2:3 But when she could hide him no longer, she got him a wicker basket and covered it over with tar and pitch. Then she put the child into it and set it among the reeds by the bank of the Nile.(AND) 2 Cor 11:33 and I was let down in a basket through a window in the wall, and so escaped his hands. God Bless, Jim |

34 | Baptized in whose name before Matt 28? | Rom 10:9 | newoldstock | 102759
If they met the criterion of Rom 10:9-10, they are now with Jesus even if they weren't baptized. Rom 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; Rom 10:10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
35 | How did alter calls or invitations start | Bible general Archive 2 | newoldstock | 102695
Thank you all for your well thought biblical answers. I really appreciate it. My church does not do alter calls and only does communion on Wednesday evening services ONLY about once every 3 months. I believe in the value of alter calls occasionally not every Sunday. And I believe that communion should be done occasionally in the Sunday main service. I have been praying and researching prior to discussing these issues with the pastor. Thanks again for all your help! Jim

37 | How did alter calls or invitations start | Bible general Archive 2 | newoldstock | 102629
Shalor, thanks for that copy of publication from Word of Life Baptist Church, Pottsville, PA. That was a big help in my quest for an answer. I have searched with due diligence and can find no biblical sanction for the modern alter call. BTW, what is your take on the 're-commitment' or renewal alter calls to restore the joy of your salvation? Ps 51:12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation And sustain me with a willing spirit. |

40 | Pologomy Allowed? | Ex 21:10 | newoldstock | 102448
Please also note that the guy who brought it up-headdoc, also dropped it right after he proposed it! Strings live on even after the originator drops them. Monogamy is God's best for us, but selfish humans had to "muddy the water".
