101 | How do we discipline church members? | Matt 18:15 | newoldstock | 93408
This question is concerning a true event that was recently related to me and is not hypothetical. A woman told her husband, a church deacon, that she could not longer stand being married to him. She moved out and within two weeks moved in with another man. She continued to attend the church with the new boy friend. The pastor spoke to her about the unappropriateness of her continuing to attend church under the circumstances. She replied that she loved the church and the congregants and had no intention of leaving their fellowship. The minister next visited her with several other deacons to discuss the situation, but she still continued to attend services with her new man. Finally, the minister brought the situation up in a church service attended by the woman and the man, and she ran out the door in tears and never returned. These are the only details that I know. Was this the correct way to handle this? How would your congregation have handled it?

104 | What is the meaning of Matthew 11:12? | Matt 11:12 | newoldstock | 93394
What is the meaning of Matthew 11:12? I have heard several theories, but it is a confusing verse for most. I'm am not so sure about the Amplified's brackets on this one. I am studying Mat. tonight and decided to ask you kind folks your interpretation. Many thanks. Jim.
105 | Should a divorced person remarry? | Matt 5:31 | newoldstock | 93195
BTW, I do know that to God sin is sin. We humans rank sin values.
106 | Should a divorced person remarry? | Matt 5:31 | newoldstock | 93155
Thanks for all of your help. I didn't realize that this thread was still alive and growing. My wife and I were not born again Christians when we were married. I have only been married to her. She was the one previously married. I have taught bible classes and studied the bible for years and this verse has definitely confused me as Justme thought. Also as George thought though I have been convicted by the verse. I have repented and asked for God's forgiveness concerning this sin and a know that He has forgiven me. I do not think that we are continuing to sin by remaining married. Divorce would be a greater sin at this point. Thanks, again.
107 | Is the bible literal? | 2 Tim 3:16 | newoldstock | 92853
J.M., do you mean should the bible be understood and followed literally today? If that is what you mean, the answer is yes! The bible is not allegory! There is good manuscript evidence and knowledge that we have God's word in our modern bibles. The original manuscripts are INSPIRED, INNERRENT, AND INFALLABLE. Even the words. God does not change.
108 | Should a divorced person remarry? | Matt 5:31 | newoldstock | 92582
Justme, excellent thought process. You covered almost every base. Your answer is pretty much how I feel about divorce and remarriage. Pray, think, and envolve God in your marriage. You and your spouse become one and God makes 2. Thanks, for your answer. God Bless you.
109 | Should a divorced person remarry? | Matt 5:31 | newoldstock | 92537
Justme, thanks for the kind welcome. I guess, that I have a problem with this scripture. I still question should people get divorced? If they do, should they remarry? Divorce occurs often amoung Christians, especially high ratio amoung pastors that I have been aquainted with. It is hard to stop a divorce when the other person wants it badly enough. You can try counseling, begging, changing habits, and standing on your head, but divorce may be inevitable. I was being facicious and debating Mat.5:32, when I said "would it be a greater sin to divorce now?". I have no intention of divorcing my wife of 33 years. Is it better not remarry and "burn in passion" than to remarry and commit adultery? Since this follows scripture on cutting off your hand and gouging out your eye, could these verses also be hyperbole? God Bless.
110 | Should a divorced person remarry? | Matt 5:31 | newoldstock | 92518
Should a divorced man or woman remarry? Mat.5:31-32 has perplexed me. I am married to a woman for 33 years now who was previously married and divorced for reasons other than unfaithfullness. We are Christians so I know that God has forgiven this "sin" (was it?), but do we continue to sin by remaining married? Would it be a greater sin to now divorce due to continuing to make each other Adulterers and Adulteresses?
111 | More Questions | Luke 16:22 | newoldstock | 92237
There is no mention of an "age of accountability" in Scripture. My own personal feeling is that the sins of a child are not on the same level and motivation of those of an adult. God is Love! I'll leave the children question up to Him. Lengthy discussion would be human conjecture. To find out more about Sheol and Hades and Hell enter Sheol into the "quick search" box at the upper right of the screen. It has been well covered on this fine site. I would assume that those before Abraham were in Sheol until Jesus released them during his body's 3 days in the tomb. Perhaps someone else could answer this for both of us. God Bless, Jim. |

112 | Children in Hell | Luke 16:22 | newoldstock | 92219
The Canaanites were a wicked people. God sometimes used one nation to punish another nation. God also did not want cross-marriage and religious contamination of his chosen people. The dead prior to Jesus's ascension all went to Sheol. Part of it was Abraham's bosom and the other part was Hades.
113 | Effect of Christian Universalism ? | John 14:6 | newoldstock | 92105
Thanks Hank. It is good to know that others have experienced this. This is a church of about 1700 average attendence,BTW. I have run into at least 5 or 6 pastors in my area that feel the same way about universal salvation. They believe that God is all Love and not judgemental. They believe that we have a "second chance" as a soul after death and that everyone is in the Lamb's Book of Life. They tell me that they learned and came to this point of view in Seminary. They do believe that we all come to God through Christ, but all of us come. I have personally run into this mainly in the Methodist and Presbyterian Church. They tell me that I look at salvation from man's point of view and they look from God's point of view.
114 | Effect of Christian Universalism ? | Not Specified | newoldstock | 92064
How do you feel about what I would call Christian Universalism creeping into the Mainline denominations? One year ago I left the UMC that I had been a member of for 20 years. The main reason was because both senior and associate pastors believed that everyone will go to heaven. What do you think. 1st. post.
