21 | What is meant in Luke 4:10 | Luke 4:11 | quvmoh | 206658
This passage is the temptation of Jesus by Satan. Satan is quoting Psalms 91:11-12 here, incorrectly I might add. Psalms 91 is a Psalm of God's divine protection and deliverance. Loosely meaning that God will send his angels to protect against even stubbing your toe on a rock. quvmoh |

22 | What is significant about the Word? | John 1:1 | quvmoh | 203481
The greek word for "Word" is logos. It basically means not just a word, but an intelligently thought out word. Greek has 2 different terms that mean "word". "Lalia" means "utterance". Basically, noise .. babble .. even a foreign language all fall under the category of "lalia". While it might be a thought out word, to the hearer, it is little more than non-sense. John uses "logos". We get out term "logic" from it. By using this term to describe Jesus, john is essentially saying that behind the spoken words, before pen was put to paper, even before the spoken words of creation, that Jesus was the thought behind them all. Before God said "Let there be light", He was thinking about Jesus coming into the world. Quvmoh |

23 | Is jesus god incarnate? | John 1:14 | quvmoh | 206698

He was born of God through the vessel of Mary. John 1:14-18 John 17:1-26. Third, Jesus is God the Son of the Triune Godhead. John 14:7-17 Quvmoh |

24 | Jesus weeping over Lazarus | John 11:35 | quvmoh | 206656
I would say neither. It is speculation on anyone's part as to why Jesus cried. The context really doesn't clarify. Those who watched it said it was because Jesus loved Lazarus, as noted in verse 36. It could also be due to their lack of faith as hinted at in verse 32-33. However, to raise Lazarus, Jesus would have had to bring him back from Paradise. I think that is why Jesus was crying. He had to deny Lazarus paradise in order to perform a miracle that helped to further prove his claims as Messiah. There are many other possible explanations as to why Jesus cried. Maybe he had allergies that day. No one knows. The important thing is that these tears show us that Jesus wasn't some way off, unfeeling person, but someone with great compassion. quvmoh |

25 | Paul's circumstances writing Rom 8:31-39 | Romans | quvmoh | 206615
Greetings, The writing of Romans took place possibly in Corinth during the last leg of Paul's third missionary journey, while enroute to Rome. Romans was written to prepare the Church there for his arrival. One contributing factor to these words would have been the growing abuse that the Christians were receiving from the Roman Empire. The words he wrote in verse 31 would have rung clear and loudly to the Christians in Rome. "If God is for us, Who can be against us?" Combine that with the message of previous 7 chapters, It would have been a very moving and powerful statement. Quvmoh |

26 | Does God make Himself known to all men | Rom 1:19 | quvmoh | 203232
Greetings, Bradk is correct. Paul clearly tells us in the first chapter of Romans that God is clearly seen to every person. The difference is the perception of the person. There are those who perceive and follow the will of God. There are those who refuse to perceive and as such, become subject to God's wrath. Romans 1:18-32 is all about those who refuse to perceive God's power and authority. As their refusal continues, God begins to punish them. Over time, these punishments grow more and more severe until finally, the only option is death. Paul makes his argument very clear. It's never been about whether or not God shows himself to us. It's all about whether or not we want to pay attention. Quvmoh |

27 | homosexual brain wired that way at birth | 1 Cor 6:9 | quvmoh | 205754
Greetings, I read a great deal of this thread and am curious why no one brought up Romans chapter one. Romans chapter one does more than simply say that Homosexuality is wrong. Paul also deals as to why it's wrong as well as why people engage in homosexuality. He begins in verse 18 by saying that God's anger and wrath about sin is clearly known to all people. On the day of judgment, no one can use "I didn't know" as an excuse. Ignorance may be bliss in many things, but not when it comes to what makes God mad, which is sin. So .. what does God do? He punishes the sinful. He lets them continue in their ways, which leads to the false religions we have now. However, it doesn't stop there. This leads to sexual immorality and perverted sexual acts. This continues on to homosexuality, which leads to hatred, malice, lies, even murder, jealousy, and arrogance. Finally, it leads to death in sin. It begins with God clouding the minds of the fools that other men thought of as brilliant. You ask why is Homosexuality is still wrong even though science seems to say different. Paul answers it in Romans. These scientists are the ones people of today see as wise and brilliant, but are nothing more than what Paul describes as Fools with darkened hearts. Quvmoh |

28 | How to Understand andApply this Passage? | 2 Cor 10:12 | quvmoh | 205982
Greetings, A common message through out Paul's writings is Pride. Paul wrote a lot about the dangers of pride and this is one of them. He cam from a society based upon class and elitism. The higher up you were, the better you were. Paul is trying to prevent that here. He believed you shouldn't have any form of christian social classes. He also believed you shouldn't be bragging about what you have or what you can do or what you've been blessed with that others haven't been. He believed that if you want to boast and brag about anything, Brag about the power of God and Jesus Christ. For Paul, it is far better to Brag about God in order to build up the church than to brag about yourself. Paul states elsewhere that we as individuals are parts of a whole. We on our own are not as powerful or influencial than as we are when together. Quvmoh |

29 | wrong and right to marry the person | Ephesians | quvmoh | 206861
Well .. given that Hosea was commanded by God to marry an adulteress, I don't think there is any right or wrong person to marry as long as it is God's will. However, Paul's message to the Ephesians is to love your spouses and be true to your spouses. In fact, Paul tells the husbands to love their wives as Christ loves the church. So, I'd recommend starting with Ephesians chapter 5. Quvmoh |

30 | don't mary a non believer | Ephesians | quvmoh | 206876
2 Corinthians 6: 14 is the verse they are referring to, however the context really doesn't specify that it's referring to marriage. In fact, the context is referring to Believers and Unbelievers being in partnerships together, not just marriages. Yes, the meaning of Believers shouldn't be marrying unbelievers can be understood from this passage, but it can also be understood from Ephesians chapter 5. Ephesians 5 is dedicated to marriage, relationships, and family. Paul tells us that we, as christians, should conduct our relationships in a manner that reflects Christ with the Church. How can an unbeliever understand that concept? The unbeliever can not. It's written elsewhere that things of the Spirit and of God are foolishness to the Unbeliever. I referred to Ephesians 5 because that chapter specifically refers to the topic at hand. Quvmoh |

31 | Speculation? | 2 Tim 2:23 | quvmoh | 206846
Greetings, The scientific process of developing a hypothesis, testing said hypothesis, then readjusting the hypothesis based upon the findings can apply to studying the Bible. It is one thing to speculate on the Bible's meaning, but just don't leave it at speculation. Study the Bible from all it's aspects to test your speculation. Then alter your speculation to fit your findings in scripture. Then you repeat the process until your initial speculation now fits with the words of scripture. You never change scripture. You change your beliefs to fit within the context of scripture. You do this by careful study. quvmoh |

32 | what is the meaning of Hebrews ? | Hebrews | quvmoh | 203673
I assume you're referring to the Book of Hebrews. This book sets up and clarifies Jesus Christ as out High Priest. The author uses terms that a jew of his day would understand. Instead of a human priest or mediator as the Mosaic Law describes, Jesus fills that role. Hebrews has a tendancy to confuse the young christian mainly due to its advanced level of doctrine. In fact, the author comes right out and says in chapter 6 "let's leave the elementary teachings behind .. ". To put it in today's understanding, if the Gospels are the freshmen classes in college, then Paul's epistles are the sophmore level classes, and Hebrews is the Junior or senior level class. Quvmoh |

34 | Verse For Testing Leaders? | 1 John 4:1 | quvmoh | 206398
Greetings, 1 John 4:1 is one of the verses that tell us to test and examine. 1 Thess 5:21 tells us to examine everything. Acts 17:11 tells us that Paul and Silas both went to a church in Berea and the People of the Church were examining the scriptures of everything they were told was true. 2 Timothy 2:15 tells us in the KJV to "Study". In the Nasb is says Be diligent. However, the message is the same. Paul tells Timothy to handle the word of God accurately, which comes through proper study and examination as well as prayer and guidance from the Holy Spirit. quvmoh |
