NASB | 2 Corinthians 10:12 ¶ For we are not bold to class or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves; but when they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are without understanding. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 10:12 ¶ We do not have the audacity to put ourselves in the same class or compare ourselves with some who [supply testimonials to] commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they lack wisdom and behave like fools. |
Bible Question:
Dear forum members, How do you think this passage should be understood and applied? God's Day To You, Tamara |
Bible Answer: Greetings, A common message through out Paul's writings is Pride. Paul wrote a lot about the dangers of pride and this is one of them. He cam from a society based upon class and elitism. The higher up you were, the better you were. Paul is trying to prevent that here. He believed you shouldn't have any form of christian social classes. He also believed you shouldn't be bragging about what you have or what you can do or what you've been blessed with that others haven't been. He believed that if you want to boast and brag about anything, Brag about the power of God and Jesus Christ. For Paul, it is far better to Brag about God in order to build up the church than to brag about yourself. Paul states elsewhere that we as individuals are parts of a whole. We on our own are not as powerful or influencial than as we are when together. Quvmoh |
