201 | dictatorship superior to democracy? | Dan 2:37 | Pastor Glenn | 82514
Piper, You asked: " Is repentence the 3rd or 4th thing you have to do to be saved. Does it come before or after baptism? " Repentance is the first thing you have to do to be saved and so comes before baptism: Mark 1:4 John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. Luke 3:3 And he went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins, Luke 24:47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 202 | dictatorship superior to democracy? | Dan 2:37 | Pastor Glenn | 82523
Piper, You asked: "Am I missing anything?" It is not easy to put God's plan of Salvation into a lengthy step by step list. Here are more key scriptures. Godly Sorrow: 2 Corinthians 7 8For even if I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it. For I perceive that the same epistle made you sorry, though only for a while. 9Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. 10For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. 11For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter. Faith comes by hearing: Romans 10 8But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart"[5] (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame."[6] 12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved."[7] 14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,[8] Who bring glad tidings of good things!"[9] 16But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "LORD, who has believed our report?"[10] 17So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Pastor Glenn |

203 | How is Adam "Ancient of Days"? | Dan 7:9 | Pastor Glenn | 93803
BMasterT, Perform a bible search for the words "Ancient" and "Days". You get the following 3 verses: Daniel 7:9 "I watched till thrones were put in place, And the Ancient of Days was seated; His garment was white as snow, And the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was a fiery flame, Its wheels a burning fire; Daniel 7:13 "I was watching in the night visions, And behold, One like the Son of Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, And they brought Him near before Him. Daniel 7:22 until the Ancient of Days came, and a judgment was made in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came for the saints to possess the kingdom. Now read the context of Daniel 7 to find any indication of "Adam". Pastor Glenn |

204 | How is Adam "Ancient of Days"? | Dan 7:9 | Pastor Glenn | 93824
gbennett76, You should post your source of information. My source is the bible: Psalm 24 1 The earth is the LORD's, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. God does not need a fallen man to hand over anything to Him. It is already His. "God's plan demanded that Adam eat that fruit. That is why He prepared a Saviour "before the foundation of the world" (1 Peter 1:20). Adam did what God intended, and will be blessed for it." If I could see the future and see that my son will fall out of my boat, I would be sure to prepare a life line to pull him in. But just because I prepared for the worst, boes not at all imply that I planned the worst. "Ever since the Arian controversy died down, the major creeds have said that God the Father and Jesus Christ are the same person. So if the Ancient of Days is the Father, then the major creeds are wrong. Thus they have only a shallow understanding of the nature of the Father and the Son, and thus their interpretation of unusual passages like this is so flawed as to be worthless. " This is a straw man argument. The creeds say that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Sirit are not the same person. The are one God, but are eternally distinct. "Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;..." (Gen 1:26a) indicates more than one person, while also only one God. Rev 4 9Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 10the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: 11"You are worthy, O Lord,[7] To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist[8] and were created." Rev 20 11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. |

205 | Why did Jesus call himself son of man? | Dan 7:13 | Pastor Glenn | 87794
Emmaus and Truthfinder, Continuing on Emmaus' point, I wanted to point out that Mark 14 also is an excellent reference to Christ's deity as the "Son of Man" as they saw grounds for the death penalty: Mark 14 61But He kept silent and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him, "Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?" 62Jesus said, "I am. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven." 63Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, "What further need do we have of witnesses? 64You have heard the blasphemy! What do you think?" And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death. The high priest clearly saw the connection and implication of what Jesus referenced to Daniel 7. Being simply "a god", as Truthfinder suggests, would not have qualified as blaspheme and for death. Pastor Glenn |

206 | Who wrote Daniel? | Dan 12:4 | Pastor Glenn | 107400
JRM, You said, "The book claims to be written around 536 BC, but seems to have been out of circulation for 400 years. Many scholars see this as evidence of a late date of authorship." The book of Daniel, as well as, the rest of scripture has often been put into doubt by some of today's "scholars". Archeology has proven time and time again that details of events, people, and places in the scriptures are far more acurate than any "late date of authorship" could have been. You should seek out the results of honest former skeptics' research. Many have written books after spending years trying to invalidate the historical facts of the bible. I don't know about you JRM, but any honest skeptics should do their homework by reading the works of others before deciding whether to beleive the bible. The problem is that most are dishonest. They make up their mind that the bible is wrong and start from scratch to prove it by ignoring proven history, archeology, and research of others. JRM, do you want help in good books to start with? As you know, the authority of the bible cannot be questioned on this forum for good reasons. You can find good resources on other sites though, like www.equip.org or www.johnankerberg.org Hope this helps, Pastor glenn |

208 | what does the bible say about divorce | Mal 2:16 | Pastor Glenn | 140856
Hello ahtibat, Mal 2 14Yet you say, "For what reason?" Because the LORD has been witness Between you and the wife of your youth, With whom you have dealt treacherously; Yet she is your companion And your wife by covenant. 15But did He not make them one, Having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one? He seeks godly offspring. Therefore take heed to your spirit, And let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth. 16"For the LORD God of Israel says That He hates divorce, For it covers one's garment with violence," Says the LORD of hosts. "Therefore take heed to your spirit, That you do not deal treacherously." 17You have wearied the LORD with your words; Yet you say, "In what way have we wearied Him?" In that you say, "Everyone who does evil Is good in the sight of the LORD, And He delights in them," Or, "Where is the God of justice?" Matthew 19 Marriage and Divorce Christ's Teaching on Divorce (A) 1 Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these sayings, that He departed from Galilee and came to the region of Judea beyond the Jordan. 2And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them there. 3The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?" 4And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read that He who made[a] them at the beginning "made them male and female,'[b] 5and said, "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?[c] 6So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate." 7They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?" 8He said to them, "Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 9And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality,[d] and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery." The Church ritual and vows are assembled from general bible doctrines and scripture. |

209 | What was Jesus doing in the earth 3 days | Matthew | Pastor Glenn | 93618
Truthfinder, You referenced: “it is natural that death should sometimes be represented as the disappearance of this nephesh (Gen. 35:18; I Kings 17:21; Jer. 15:9; Jonah 4:3). The ‘departure’ of the nephesh must be viewed as a figure of speech, for it does not continue to exist independently of the body, but dies with it (Num. 31:19; Judg. 16:30; Ezek. 13:19). No biblical text authorizes the statement that the ‘soul’ is separated from the body at the moment of death.”—The Interpreter’s Dictionary of the Bible, edited by G. Buttrick, 1962, Vol. 1, p. 802. But, your reference should have started with these scriptures: Matthew 22:32 "I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'?[22:32 Exodus 3:6, 15] God is not the God of the dead, but of the living." Mark 12 26But concerning the dead, that they rise, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the burning bush passage, how God spoke to him, saying, "I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'?[Exodus 3:6, 15] 27He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living. You are therefore greatly mistaken." Heb 11 4 By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks. Luke 8:55 Then her spirit returned, and she arose immediately. And He commanded that she be given something to eat. Psalm 146:4 His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; In that very day his plans perish. Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it. As for Jesus Christ: John 8:58 "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!" John 10 17The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life--only to take it up again. 18No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father." Truthfinder, I am sure that you do not deny that Jesus existed before His incarnation. So, why would His spirit cease to exist after His physical death? |

211 | What was Jesus doing in the earth 3 days | Matthew | Pastor Glenn | 93697
Truthfinder, Sorry, but I got that impression from the body of your post as it speaks of "...the nephesh ... for it does not continue to exist independently of the body, but dies with it...". Since these kinds of references were used to support your conclusion that Jesus did nothing for three days, I figured that you were implying that Jesus ceased to exist for three days. Pastor Glenn |

212 | Double fulfilment of prophecy? | Matt 2:18 | Pastor Glenn | 66935
Is Matthew holding to the same rules of biblical interpretation in this scripture that we often use today when determining prophecy fulfilment? Are there rules and methods that we can learn from and apply to other prophecy scriptures today? Or is this simply an example of inspiration from God to show this fulfilment? Jeremiah 31:15 Thus says the LORD: "A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted for her children, Because they are no more." Matthew 2:18 "A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted, Because they are no more."[2:18 Jeremiah 31:15] Pastor Glenn |

213 | Explain eye for eye/turn cheek? | Matt 5:1 | Pastor Glenn | 60578
Here is a quote from a previous post: "Searcher: "Matthew 5:21,22 *You have heard.... But I say to you.* See vv. 27, 31, 33, 38:, 43. The quotes are from Ex. 20:13; Deut. 5:17. Jesus was not altering the terms of the law in any of these passages. Rather, he was correcting what they had 'heard' -- the rabbinical understanding of the law." "Matthew 5:38 *An eye for an eye.* The law did establish this standard as a principle for limiting retribution to that which was just (Ex. 21:24; Lev. 24:20; Deut. 19:21). Its design was to insure that the punishment in civil cases fit the crime. It was never meant to sanction acts of personal retaliation. So again Jesus made no alteration to the true meaning of the law. He was mere explaining and affirming the law's true meaning" (MacArthur Study Bible, Word Publishing, 1997). Grace to you, John" The key is "...Its design was to insure that the punishment in civil cases fit the crime. It was never meant to sanction acts of personal retaliation. So again Jesus made no alteration to the true meaning of the law. He was mere explaining and affirming the law's true meaning" (MacArthur Study Bible, Word Publishing, 1997). ..." The old testament law concerning this was a guide for the Israeli government (after the cops are called). But people were using this as a bases for taking PERSONAL revenge (vigilante or mob justice). 214 | GiveMe A PassageToReadToGiveMeStregnth | Matt 5:12 | Pastor Glenn | 67678
Matthew 5 The Beatitudes (1) 1 And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. 2Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying: 3"Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. 5Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. 6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. 7Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. 8Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. 9Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. 10Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11"Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Psalm 37 The Heritage of the Righteous and the Calamity of the Wicked A Psalm of David. 1 Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. 2For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. 3Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. 4Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. 5Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. 6He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday. 7Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. 8Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret--it only causes harm. 9For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the LORD, They shall inherit the earth. 10For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; Indeed, you will look carefully for his place, But it shall be no more. 11But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. 12The wicked plots against the just, And gnashes at him with his teeth. 13The Lord laughs at him, For He sees that his day is coming. 14The wicked have drawn the sword And have bent their bow, To cast down the poor and needy, To slay those who are of upright conduct. 15Their sword shall enter their own heart, And their bows shall be broken. |

215 | a human answer to my previous question | Matt 5:12 | Pastor Glenn | 67684
scrkuker, You wrote: "..help me..give me a passage to read to give me strength..I need encouragement..." I am not sure what kind of "human" answer you want. If you are a woman, then you can provide some of the emotional support that she may need. Other than that, she should consult with her school officials and/or the local police. If she asked only for "...a passage to read ..." then give her the word of God: John 4 14but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life." 15The woman said to Him, "Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw." 216 | Christian Activism? | Matt 5:13 | Pastor Glenn | 109725
Bravo Brother Hank! Yes, it is very much a Christian's responsibility to be activists against sin and evil. This is our way of being "salt" and "light": Mat 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Mat 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Mat 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. May God bless you Hank, Pastor Glenn |

217 | Was Martin Luther King Jr. wrong? | Matt 5:13 | Pastor Glenn | 109759
CDBJ, Today is Martin Luther King Jr Day. Are you saying that his peaceful activism was wrong? I am not trying to start trouble and of course you are free to disagree. I just wonder if you have really considered this scripture in Mat 5:13? I want to point out that he often debated this issue with racist Christians. Yes, as in anything, prayer for God's direction is very important. You said, "I’m sorry to say but most of these, so called Christian activist, are only whitewashing the devils world! " Well, if that is true then Jesus' words here seem meaningless: Mat 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. MLK challenged Christians to be real, not hypocrites. The bible says that if we say that we love God and hate our brother, we are a liar. Maybe I am wrong, but it seems that you are lumping the peaceful activists together with the evil unpeaceful ones. Another problem is with organizations like the ACLU that pretend to be defending American constitution. The ACLU has many Christians divided over many issues that the bible makes clear. here is some of what they say: "ACLU of Louisiana Opposes Renewed White House Push for Taxpayer Funded Religious Discrimination (01/15/2004)" "NYCLU Calls on State Officials to Audit Salvation Army Employment Practices (01/14/2004) " www.aclu.org They often mix a little lie together with the truth to confuse people. 1percent lie plus 99 percent truth equals a lie still. If MLK was wrong, then please explain why. Pastor Glenn |

218 | Was Martin Luther King Jr. wrong? | Matt 5:13 | Pastor Glenn | 109803
Jesus whipped the money changers out of the temple twice. He called the religious leaders hypocrites. Was that similar to a peaceful demonstation march? A few year ago Rosa Parks and many others by law could not sit in the front of the bus. Blacks were cheated out of their lawful right to vote. Blacks were lynched and intimidated by the KKK and Nazis. I would not be surprised to find out that some of those under KKK hoods were regular church members. MLK came out asking "why white ministers were silent?" He pointed out to the conscience of America that closing their eyes to the problem of racism was not the answer. I felt glad when I learned that he had published many books even until his last year in 1967. But, I felt very frustrated when I found out that those books are out of print. Our schools have failed to create history studies from his books. Satan has long since moved on from racism to drug addiction, broken marriages, adultery, child molestation, and homosexuality in the churches. MLK was first and foremost a Gospel preacher. His message was based on Satan’s evil ways of his day. He would have spoken out against the prevailing evil of the day. So should we. The Gospel without the repentance message is useless. And no souls will be pointed to Christ until people hear a reason to repent. Pastor Glenn |
