201 | BEING PREJUDICE | Prov 14:21 | prayon | 125073
Greetings Texasbelle, The bible says that prejudice is a sin. Webster's dictionary defines neighbor as: 1) A fellow being (Acts 7). 2) One of the human race; any one that needs our help, or to whom we have an opportunity of doing good. Here is a few verses that deal with your neighbor. Psa 101:5 I will destroy anyone who secretly slanders his neighbor. I will not tolerate anyone with a conceited look or arrogant heart. Pro 11:12 A person who despises a neighbor has no sense, but a person who has understanding keeps quiet. Mar 12:31 The second most important commandment is this: 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself.' No other commandment is greater than these." Hope this helps. prayon |

202 | Tithes | Mal 3:8 | prayon | 125036
Greetings Nakia, YES!!! YES!! and YES again! Malachi 3:8-12 talks about how we rob God by not bringing in our tithes and offerings into His storehouse. Many people unfortunetly believe that tithing was an OT practice and does not apply to Christians today. This couldn't be further from the truth. They believe that tithing was initiated by the law of Moses and therefore when we entered into the New Covenant tithing was done away with. Not so. Gen 14:18-21 tells us that Abram tithed during his time. 1Co 9:13 says: "Don't you realize that those who work at the temple get their food from the temple? Don't those who help at the altar get a share of what is on the altar?" What the priests were to live on was the tithes of the people (see Num 18:8-24). Tithing did not go out with the New Covenant, if it did then we wouldn't have Paul telling us in his letter to the Corinthians that we are to tithe. prayon |

206 | do i have to worship loudly? | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 124890
Greetings and welcome to the forum! First let me say that you will not go to hell. You go to hell on the condition of your heart - not on how you praise. I somewhat agree with what Norm said but I want to add to it. Most of the time instead of the singing part of the service being called worship it is called "praise and worship". Services should be a mixture of both praise and worship. Worship is quieter and more reverant. Praise is the opposite. Praise is as Norm said - making a joyful noise to the Lord. Darlene Zschech ( a well known praise and worship leader) said it this way in her book"Extravagant Worship": "Praise is not a happy-clappy song. Praise is not the fast songs before the nice, slow worship songs. Praise is a declaration, a victory cry, proclaiming faith to stand firm in the place God has given you. does tell us to shout and dance in praise to the Lord. SHOUT! Darlene Zschech defines shout this way: A shout commmands attention. A shout demonstates enthusiasm, confidence and determination. Psa 47:1b Clap your hands, all you people. Shout to God with a loud, joyful song. Psa 98:6 with trumpets and the playing of a ram's horn. Shout happily in the presence of the king, the LORD God also does tell us to dance: 1Sa 18:6b They sang and danced, accompanied by tambourines, joyful music, and triangles. 2Sa 6:14 David danced in the LORD'S presence with all his might. Exo 15:20 Then the prophet Miriam, Aaron's sister, took a tambourine in her hand. All the women, dancing with tambourines, followed her. . . So many people were brought up as you were where shouting, dancing and singing makes you uncomfortable. I was brought up that way. The first time I went to a pentecostal church I was very uncomfortable but there was a spirit there that kept drawing me back. Once I finally shook off the "uncomfortableness" I experienced a freedom that I never imagined. The bible does tell us to make a joyful noise (see list of scriptures from Norm). The God's Word translation uses the word "shout" instead of joyful noise. I will leave you with something that someone left me with years ago that helped me alot. Do you like to go to a sports event - like a football game or a basketball game. Imagine yourself in a situation of great excitement, such as your favotite team just scored a touchdown. Now I ask you these question. You jump and scream at the top of your lungs at the touchdown, but just what did that football touchdown ever do for you? On the other hand we have Jesus who died an extremely agonizing death for you so that you could have life, who comforts you, provides for you protects you and you don't feel comfortable shouting praises to Him? When I thought about that I got the point. I forced myself over my uncomfort. I hope you will do the same. Go to a place where you are totally alone and just yell Haleluja and Thank you Jesus repeatedly as loud as you can. I promise you that you will start feeling more comfortable about it. Psa 98:1 A psalm. Sing a new song to the LORD because he has done miraculous things. As for your son- At 17 he is old enough to make the decision for himself. Let him experience the different types of praise and worship. Your son is not spiritually dead but there may just be a part of the Holy Spirit that is "locked away" that his friend will help him to let out. As for his friend - tellhim that I understand where he is coming from due to my past experience. He knows the power that praise and worship can let loose in a life and he wants to share it. Tell him for me that his enthusiasm is commendable - especially for teens today but that he should share the joy he found without being judgemental of peoples lives. Tell him also what I told you in the first sentence. Thanks. Have a blessed day. I hope I have helped in some way. prayon |

207 | In Zechariah 4:7 What is the top stone? | Zech 4:7 | prayon | 124861
Greetings Ter Bear, Two images appear to be used in Holy Scripture, both of which meet in Christ: the one, in which the stone spoken of is the foundation-stone; the other, in which it is the head cornerstone binding the two walls together, which it connects. Both were cornerstones; the one at the base, the other at the summit. Christ is the principal one in the spiritual building the church; He is the foundation stone, on which the whole is laid; and He is the cornerstone, that joins, knits, and keeps all together. Greetings TKBjork, Whe you don't understand a passage it sometimes helps to look at other translations. Many times when you do the passage becomes much clearer. Consider these translations: God's word: Those who brag cannot stand in your sight. You hate all troublemakers Message Bible: Hot-Air-Boaster collapses in front of you; you shake your head over Mischief-Maker Literal Translation: The boasters shall not set themselves before Your eyes. You hate all workers of iniquity. New King James: The foolish shall not stand in Your sight. You hate all doers of iniquity. Hope this along with what Kalos said helps. prayon |

Greetings ador53 and welcome to the forum, Ub Chapter 7 Paul realizes that his readers will have many questions about how the law relates to them and their faith, He gives a detailed explanation of what it means to not be under the law but under grace. He teaches that the law: 1 - can not any longer condemn a believer (7:1-6) 2 - it convicts both believers and unbelievers of sin (7:7-13) 3 - it can not deliever a believer from sin (7:14-25) 4 - believers who walk in the Spirit can fulfill the law (8:1-4) (McArthur Study Bible) Hope this helps. prayon |

213 | Should we submit to a wicked leader | Rom 13:1 | prayon | 124703
Greetings totoy, There are 5 options you have when you are in that situation. They are: Options when Disagree with God-ordained authority 1) Obey - God has told us to submit to the authority that is placed over us. We should hav a heart to obey. If those above us are not living for God then we should still serve in every way that we can righteously serve. 2- Obey with contention - There is never a reason to do this – remember the priinciple of seed time and harvest 3- Disobey – We should disobery ONLY when there is a Clear and Direct violation of scripture 4- Abstain – ok to disobey if it is a direct violation of my conscious then you request to be dismissed. 5- Leave – Only when God says and you are directed by the Holy Spirit to do so. Hope this helps. prayon |

214 | A believer who smokes? | Mark 7:18 | prayon | 124700
Greetings, I sincerely believe that believers should not smoke. Here are some of my views. 1 - Smoking has a negative effect on the body. we are told to care for our bodies. 1Co 6:19- "Don't you know that your body is a temple that belongs to the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit, whom you received from God, lives in you. You don't belong to yourselves. You were bought for a price. So bring glory to God in the way you use your body." How do you bring glory to God by doing something that is detrimental to your health? 2- Studies have shown that 2nd hand smoke causes cancer. I understand that pollution has a negative effect on the body too but not to the degree that 2nd hand smoke does. Mar 12:33 To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as you love yourself is more important than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices." How do you love someone to this degree and still endanger their health? 3 - Smoking is a thing of the world Rom 12:1b-2: "I encourage you to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, dedicated to God and pleasing to him. This kind of worship is appropriate for you. Rom 12:2 Don't become like the people of this world. Instead, change the way you think. Then you will always be able to determine what God really wants-what is good, pleasing, and perfect. 4 - I am going to assume that one reason you smoke is because your body craves the nicoteen - Rom 13:14 " Instead, live like the Lord Jesus Christ did, and forget about satisfying the desires of your sinful nature." 5.You should have control over your body - you should not have to submit to any addictions - Prov 25:28 - Like a city broken into and left without a wall, so is a person who lacks self-control. Hope these give you a few more ways to think about it. prayon |

216 | How to resist "back to slavery" tempts? | Hos 8:3 | prayon | 124276
Greetings Imforgiven, Eph 6:12 This is not a wrestling match against a human opponent. We are wrestling with rulers, authorities, the powers who govern this world of darkness, and spiritual forces that control evil in the heavenly world. Eph 6:13 For this reason, take up all the armor that God supplies. Then you will be able to take a stand during these evil days. Once you have overcome all obstacles, you will be able to stand your ground. To stand against the temptation that tries to bring us down put on your armor! Notice that all the armor the bible tells us to take up protects the front of us, not one peice covers the back. This tells us that no matter what the battle face it head on - never turn around and leave your back open for the enemies knife. Stand stong! To fight the devil use the weapons God gave you for that purpose. Pray, have faith, use wisdom and discernment in battle. Remember if you place yourselves under God's authority. Resist the devil, and he will run away from you. (James 4:7) If you keep your mind on Christ you will win every attack. prayon |

217 | who is the pharisees | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 124179
Greetings LSmith, Their were two groups of religous leaders in Jesus' time - The Pharisee's and the Saducee's. The Pharisee's were noted most for their exact observance of the Jewish religion, their acurate exposition of the law, and the handing down of the extrabiblical customs and traditions. The Pharisee's believed in strict adherence to the law. They held a moderate position with regard to the interplay of fate and free will. They believed in the coming resurrection and in angels. The beliefs of the Pharisee's prevailed among the common people. They also believed in immortality. The Saducee's on the other hand were the ones who held the political power. They were usually wealthy arisacats. They accepted only the written "Torah" and rejected the oral interpretation of the Torah accepted by the Pharisee's. The obeyed only the literal interpretation of the written law. They rejected the doctrine of the future resurrection, did not believe in angels and spirits and denied immotality. They also did not believe in fate but believed that everything happened because of man's free will. Hope this helps to clarify. prayon |

219 | what was the foolish thing Samuel did | 1 Sam 13:13 | prayon | 124036
Greetings worknprogress, In 1Sam 10:8 Samuel gave Saul instructions to go to Gilgal and to wait on Samuel for 7 days and Samuel would come down and offer burnt sacrifices for the battle but Samuel took his time in coming on the 7th day and Saul went ahead and offered the sacrifices himself. This is what Samuel was referring to when he said that Saul had done foolishly. Saul's sin was not that he offered the sacrifice but that he was disobedient to the prophet and didn't wait for his priestly assistance. Saul wanted to have absolute power in both civil and sacred matters. Samuel was testing Saul's obedience and character to God but he failed by invading the priestly office himself in offereing the sacrifice himself. prayon
