221 | What age do we not have to obey parents? | Mark 10:19 | prayon | 114216
Greetings sandstorm, the bible does not give a time limit on honoring your parents, therefore you are to honor them as long as they are your parents. The NT tells us in 6 different places to "honor your father and mother"and twice in the OT. The only thing that should keep you from obeying them is if it is a clear and direct violation of scripture, but even then you are to show them respect. You should live by their rules as long as you are living in their house. prayon
222 | Is praying for someone to die wrong? | Matt 22:39 | prayon | 114214
Greetings and welcome to the forum. Yes it is wrong. Matt 22:36-39 says that when asked what the greatest commandment Jesus said it is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind. He also said that the 2nd greatest commmandment is to love your neighbor as yourself. This means that Jesus is telling you to love this individual. Continue to love her and pray for her. Pro 25:21-22 says that "If your enemy is hungry, give him some food to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him some water to drink. In this way you will make him feel guilty and ashamed, and the LORD will reward you". Remember that there is nothing that prayer can't change no matter how bad and hopeless it looks in the natural. The other thing to remember is that with God all things are possible, including getting through high school in one piece. prayon |

223 | is this detramental to salvation | 2 Cor 13:14 | prayon | 112978
Greetings! God gave us His son as a sacrifice for our sins. He made Him human so that He could die for us. We are to pray to God the Father in Jesus name. No where in the bible does it tell us to pray to Jesus. There are two areas of prayer. The first one is the Formal side of prayer or the business side. This is conducting spiritual transactions or business with God through prayer (1Cor 3:9). The other side is the informal side of prayer or the nonbusiness side. This is fellowshipping with God, Jesus or the Holy Spirit. Joh 16:23 When that day comes, you won't ask me any more questions. I can guarantee this truth: If you ask the Father for anything in my name, he will give it to you. Eph 5:20 Always thank God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Phi 4:6 Never worry about anything. But in every situation let God know what you need in prayers and requests while giving thanks. Col 1:3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, in our prayers for you. Hope this clears it up for you. prayon |

Greetings and welcome to the forum! In order to understand verse 4 you have to understand verse 3. David is comptemplating the awesomeness of God. In all His glory and majesty who are we that He should care about man. He made the heavens and the earth, and is in control of all but yet He sent His one and only Son to die for us that we might live. Just who are we that He should care so much? prayon

Below these 3 are some possibles. 1Co 16:19 The churches in the province of Asia greet you. Aquila and Prisca and the church that meets in their house send their warmest Christian greetings. . Col 4:15 Greet our brothers and sisters in Laodicea, especially Nympha and the church that meets in her house. 229 | help | 2 Cor 5:17 | prayon | 111973
Greetings Dave, I agree with what terrib said but I want to add a little more. Know that you will make mistakes, we all do. There is not one tht doesn't. The thing to remember is that God is a forgiving God and He knows where your heart is. So don't get down on yourself when you do. You are the child of a King! I agree that the most important thing is to find a bible believing church. Keep trying different churches until you get to the one that feels like home and then stay there. To keep your focus stay in the word. You need the word as much as your body needs food. You can not survive without it. When you run into a question then just ask it at the forum, we will be glad to help you understand what you read. I also agree that you need to find a bible that you can understand. For simplicity I love the God's Word translation. prayon prayon |

232 | Were the 120 orphans before Penecost? | 1 Cor 12:11 | prayon | 111880
Then who is the Spirit to come in John 16:13? ("When the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into the full truth. He won't speak on his own. He will speak what he hears and will tell you about things to come.") Why when Jesus was talking to the apostles did He say in a few days that you will be baptized if they were already baptized as you claim? (Act 1:5 John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." Act 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes to you.) If they already had the Holy Spirit then Jesus did not know what He was talking about when He told them they would be baptized in a few days. prayon |

233 | Prayon, Do you claim the other 4, too? | 1 Cor 12:11 | prayon | 111824
Searcher, I do believe that when God makes a promise to believers it is for everyone who is a believer. Do you cast out demons in His name? Yes I have. Do I lay hands on the sick and the recover? Yes I have Do I pick up serpents? If by serpents you mean snakes? Yes I have - Ever heard of the Rattlesnakes at Silver Springs in Orlando, FL? I have also walked up and took bones out of guard dogs mouths that the owners say should of killed me. Do I drink deadly poisons? To my knowledge I have not. But I know that I have eaten things that should of made me very sick, it did other people, but it did not bother me. prayon |

234 | prayon, Infilling happen at salvation? | 1 Cor 12:11 | prayon | 111823
Searcher: John 20:22: Albert Barnes Notes on the Bible ". In this case the act of breathing was used to represent the nature of the influence that would come upon them, and the source of that influence" John Gills Expo on the Bible: "but this breathing on them, and the words that attended it, were a symbol, pledge, and confirmation, of what they were to receive on the day of Pentecost". 4:8: Peter had been present in the upper room and received the Holy Spirit there on the day of Pentecost. 4:31 - Gills: and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost; with the gifts of the Holy Ghost, even with extraordinary ones, such as speaking with divers tongues, as before on the day of Pentecost; see Act_2:4 and this was the case not only of the apostles, but of the other ministers of the word, and it may be of the whole church: John Wesley's explanatory notes: Act 4:31 - They were all filled - Afresh; and spake the word with boldness - So their petition was granted. 9:17 - Paul received the Holy Spirit when Ananias laid hands on him. 13:9 - Principle of first context - look at the scriptures before and after. This just states that he was filled not that he had just gotten filled. 13:52 - ? The Holy Spirit was still with them. your question? Eph 5:18 - True communion with God is not induced by drunkeness, but by the Holy Spirit. Paul is teaching that we should always be under the influence of the Holy Spirit by letting the Word control our lives rather than alochol. CONTINUALLY, adv. 1. Without pause or cessation; unceasingly; as, the ocean is continually rolling its waves on the shore. (Webster's Dictionary) The verses you are referring to in Luke were still OT. Receiving the Holy Ghost under the Old Covenant differs from receiving the Holy Ghost under the New Covenant. Acts 2:4 - refer to previous answer prayon |

235 | prayon Did some not rec the Holy Spirit | 1 Cor 12:11 | prayon | 111822
Searcher, Act 2:2-4: "Suddenly, a sound like a violently blowing wind came from the sky and filled the whole house where they were staying. Tongues that looked like fire appeared to them. The tongues arranged themselves so that one came to rest on each believer"(not apostle). "And they were all filled of the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them utterance." Here is a visible sign of the gift they were to receive. They saw cloven tongues, like as of fire (Acts 2:3), and it sat - ekathise, not they sat, those cloven tongues, but he, that is the Spirit (signified thereby), rested upon each of them, as he is said to rest upon the prophets of old (MHCC) If tongues was not the initial sign I am curious what was? What do you think Simon saw that convinced him that the Holy Spirit was given? Acts 9: NO it does not say that he spoke immediately in tongues, however, the majority of the places in the bible state that "the Holy Spirit came to them, and they began to talk in other languages" (Act 19:6) " Act 10:45-47 All the believers who were circumcised and who had come with Peter were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured on people who were not Jewish. They heard these non-Jewish people speaking in other languages and praising God. Then Peter said, "No one can refuse to baptize these people with water. They have received the Holy Spirit in the same way that we did." Act 19:6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came to them, and they began to talk in other languages and to speak what God had revealed. In all these instances (Acts 2,10, 19) all state that they were baptized with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in tongues. Therefore it is probable that Paul spoke in tongues when he was baptized with the Holy Spirit or it would be a violation of the Principle of Context in bible interpretation (Knowing Scriptue by R. E. Sproul). Upon baptism the Holy Spirit enters you but you receive a measure of the Holy Spirit in the new birth but you receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit in the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Acts 8 shows us that the 2 baptisms do not happen at the same time in most cases. They are 2 seperate entities. prayon |

237 | Should we ask God for the gift of tongue | 1 Cor 12:11 | prayon | 111618
Yes. Mark 16:17 says that "these signs will follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast our devils, and they shall speak with new tongues...." In other words if you believe you can have the gift of tongues. Acts 2 tells us that as soon as the people were filled with the Holy Spirit they began speaking in tongues, not some of the believers but all the believers (v.4). Tongues is for all believers and is a sign of being filled with the Holy Ghost. In all 5 cases of the baptism of the Holy Ghost in Acts ( Acts 2,8,9,10, and 19) every time the initial evidence of being filled with the Spirit was speaking in tongues. Kalos was right when he said that some gifts are given to different people. Tongues to be used in public is not for everyone. That gift is only for a few. prayon |

239 | wine and acohol | 1 Tim 5:23 | prayon | 111523
Greetings, Here are some scriptures that concern alcohol: Eph 5:18 -Don't get drunk on wine, which leads to wild living. Instead, be filled with the Spirit Pro 20:1 Wine makes people mock, liquor makes them noisy, and everyone under their influence is unwise. Pro 21:17 Whoever loves pleasure will become poor. Whoever loves wine and expensive food will not become rich. Pro 23:29-30 - Who has trouble? Who has misery? Who has quarrels? Who has a complaint? Who has wounds for no reason? Who has bloodshot eyes? Those who drink glass after glass of wine and mix it with everything. Gal 5:19-21 - Now, the effects of the corrupt nature are obvious: ...... drunkenness, wild partying, and similar things. I've told you in the past and I'm telling you again that people who do these kinds of things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Rom 13:13 We should live decently, as people who live in the light of day. Wild parties, drunkenness, sexual immorality, promiscuity, rivalry, and jealousy cannot be part of our lives. Hope these are helpful. prayon |
