confusing: Welcome to the Forum, first time with us I see. How do we arrive in a lot of different circumstancesin our lives? In reading your note, I think you sound like you are under some kind of distress, or suffering. I have often wondered how it is some are born into the most harsh living conditions, and others have no idea what to want a single thing is. From a purely physical answer it does seem God is not fair, and having existance in this world is a living hell on earth. Anyone who has ever suffered, or been abused knows full well what I am saying. In the Bible in the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon the author who had more Wisdom than anyone, has the accurate picture of life. In chapter 7 verse 1 he says,"......And the day of one's death is better than the day of one's birth." Upon reading many who are in deep pain or being physically deprived, or abused relate this in a special way. To the suffering they see death as an end to their grief. Many in the world look forward to ending their miserable life, death is seen as a way of escape. God has a purpose for every life that is brought into this world. Psalm 139 the whole chapter confirms that God knows us "intimately". That God "formed" us in our mothers womb. Reguardless of our biological circumstances of being concieved, God says in Psalm 139:16 "Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me. When as yet there was not one of them." God has given us a "gift of life". How can one see life as a gift when we are in such miserable circumstances? How can a loving God allow such tragic things happen to babies, children, and wonderfull good people? Life does seem confusing. does it not? I cold list a thousand why's about God. You are right none of asked to be born! I God see this is not fair? Where is God's protection? I could go on and on. In all honesty I have pleaded with God and I was allowed to suffer even more! Why God, I have asked? I would like to share what I found. We are in a physical world with a physical body. We are allowed to think and choose for our selves what we will believe, and make choices. We all have this internal freedom. No one can take away what I learn, believe, or what ever I control my mentality. Slaves did not have physical freedom. But, nobody could stop their thoughts or beliefs. May I suggest we are spiritual in nature, and physically conected to the world in which we temporarly lodged in this earthly body. We do feel pain, and have bad things happen to our bodies. The body is only a dwelling place for a period of a certian amount of years, the Lord has forth knowledge of. I am a spiritual being, created by God in His Spiritual image! God does not force anyone to believe in Him or His only Son Jesus Christ. I am litterally a spirit with freedom of choice. No matter where I am or how much suffering I am in, no matter what circumstances that come upon me, God is there. That is, if I choose to ask His Son to be my Lord. Because God gave us freedom of choice, when God's way is good, and I choose not to go God's way, that is sin. I choose sin rather than go God's way. God sent His son Jesus Christ to redeem us, and take away our sin if we genuinely believe in Jesus Chrust and allow Jesus to be our Lord. For those who reject Jesus Christ, God allows them that freedom also. God will not force anyone to love Him ,or believe in Jesus Christ. We have freedom as free Spiritual beings. Some day we will leave these physical bodys and be changed into our true spiritual bodies. Those who rejected Christ will be allowed to follow through with their choice and be eternaly distanced from God, in hell. This was their freedom to choose, God will not force heaven on anyone. Although He desires no one th go to hell. I am able to endure all suffering and Hardship, and all things that come to me as I live in an evil world. Mankind has choosen to create a wicked world, because we choose to live sinfull lives. May I encourage you to read Romans Chapter 5. This chapter is telling how we are justified in Jesus Christ. I would even say the whole book of Romans would be well worth your time for such an important understanding as you are seeking. Yes "confusing" I have found that no matter what, who, or when, I can know the why's and where's of my life. Romans 8:38-39 "For I am convienced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." NASB. There are so many places is Scripture assuring us that God's love will allow us to endure anything and He is with us no matter what we go through! But, only if we choose to allow Jesus Christ to be our Lord. I hope and pray that what I have shared will be of some help for you. Blessings and peace. justme |

208 | Entering Heaven | NT general Archive 1 | justme | 71108
lushgush: What your son talked about is called baptismal regeneration. This belief is held by some and they do have scripture that taken by it's self out of context, in my opinion, proves their point. I personally believe that a person who is genuinely born again, and has repented, and truly has made Jesus Christ would want to be baptized ASAP. The problem I see is, anyone claiming to have become a follower of Christ is EXPECTED by Christ to FOLLOW our Lord Jesus Christ in His example. I say, anyone who has had ample time to be baptized and has not, there is every reason to doubt their salvation. Is there any reason not to be baptized? Perhaps for the severely physically challenged person, or a hospitalized death bed acceptance of Christ, could I see a reasonable exception. Even with these people I have as a symbol of baptism sprinkled a woman who was dying of cancer in a hospital. If she could have she would have gladly been put in a baptistry and baptized. I use to say after baptizing some one "here is water what hinders you from being baptized?" I would say show me a person who says they are a Christian and they have REFUSED to be baptized, and I would doubt that they were a Christian. Hope this helps. justme |

209 | Apostles, Prophets? An Office for Today? | NT general Archive 1 | justme | 74107
iverson: Welcome to the Forum! Good question, and many question the same things. This is a debatable subject. For those who are of a charasmatic background they might, or would say yes. I am not of that understanding of Scripture, and say this; Apostles were limited to those who had a literal first hand eye witness to the life of Jesus Christ. For me that ends that part, that there are no present day Aposrles. Prophets again is mainly identified with charismatic or pentacostal bacgrounds. This is used largely among Word of Faith movement believers. I find this gift miss-used today. Hank Hanegraaff in his book COUNTERFET REVIVAL calls this "fabrications, fantasies, and frauds. I openly admit this book of Hanegraaff's is my position as well. Perhaps the greatest of these false prophets seem to come out of the Toronto Airport Vineyard. Many are those who become discouraged, and weak Christians, who have been duped, and nearly destroyed by the Word of Faith movement. TBN television being a permoter of such false prophets, and false Christianity. Such false prophets and teachers as Benny Hinn, Marilyn Hickey, Joyce Meyer, Bill McCartney, Oral Roberts, John and Carol Arnott, Jack Coe, Paul Crouch, Jack Deere, Jesse Duplantis, Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland, Rick Joyner, Jimmy Swaggart, John White, Smith Wigglesworth, John and Carol Wimble, are just a few of the past and present who are part of this apostasty. These names come from Hanegraaff's COUNTERFEIT REVIAL. I STRONGLY suggest that every Christain read Hanegraaff's COUNTERFEIT REVIVAL and Chrisit IN CHRISTIANITY. Those who are in this false movement will attack the Scriptual truth and defend these false teachers to the enth degree. I openly admit this is a rapidly growing movement that I believe is the most dangerious threat to inmature Christians, who are not well grounded in Scripture. I hope this helps you. I am sure this may be more than you expected, but it is as complet as I could do. Blessings. justme |

210 | Is water baptism must for Holy communion | NT general Archive 1 | justme | 74115
Bunty: John3:16-36. Baptism has been topic that we have really gone over in copious notes in the past and recently. However, I do not recall this question being brought up before. So I would say you gave a good question, and it is thought provoking. In scripture the examples we have is believers were baptized very soon after confessing Jesus Christ was their Lord. In Scripture there are examples, and instructions of how Communion was done, and the warning not to take communion unworthley. There notworthy concerns about how one could answer your question. One example, my brother in Christ, Emmaus, whom I love in Christ, and respect quite highly, do differ on this issue. I am a conserative, evangelical, protestant. Brother Emmaus is Roman Catholic. So our views on communion and Baptism are quite different. For me, this is no reason not to show respect, kindness, and demonstrate Christian brotherly love. I am going to state my view and understanding of Scripture, on this question of yours. Baptism means to submerge, and cover up with water. One could say burried in the likeness of Christ's death, raised in the likeness resurrection. Quite symbolic of Christ is the Ordinance of being Baptized, after accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. To be a genuine believer, follower of Christ we are told to outwardly confess Jesus Christ. Baptism is open confession to the body of believers of your salvation. Baptism is perhaps the first outward sign of being "born again". Baptism, Communion, and Marriage are ORDINANCES of Christian belief. These Ordinances are NOT AN OPTION! Baptism is not required for salvation. Anyone who refuses to be baptized has ample reason doubt their faith is genuine. I can find no specfic scripture that says a new believer who has not been able to be baptized should be denied communion. However, I would rather error on the side of when in doubt, don't. Most churches have a baptismal service at least quarterly, I would hope! I would say if you are in a church that is not a soul winning church then go to one that is and get baptized ASAP. My back ground is Baptist. This is what I believe is supported in Scriptures teachings. I say to you, and any other believer, I respect the understanding of others in the Forum, and I am reminded in Galations 5:6 "....The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love." NIV. I have sincerely offered my understanding of Scripture, to your question. I extend my respect to those who have different opinions. Peace and God's Love is offered to you. justme |

212 | How should we as christians greet ? | NT general Archive 1 | justme | 88748
dch: Glad to have you back to the forum! How did you resolve the situation of changing churches? In answering your question, I would say it all depends. What is the norman custome of your church. Some formal churches it may be a polite "how are you" with a nod. Other churches are real huggers, and enjoy the vocal expressions of "good to see ya" so all the church can hear. There is really no set way to greet one another. I like a hardy hand shake with a soft kind pat on the back. The choice is up to you. I've heard in Arkansas they really know how to make people feel welcome. However the state above Arkansas is the real winner of making fokes feel greeted! Blessings, and welcome again. justme |

213 | Spreading the gospel | NT general Archive 1 | justme | 89530
4given: Good question. I use several ways, and this is I believe important, that not one way of opening the door to use scripture, I am not responsible for the results of if they pray to make Jesus Lord or reject Christ. That sets me free of guilt, I am perhaps a seed sower, maybe just a person th water the seed, or ever to pick the harvest. No one person can claim they did it all. I often start with "do you know Jesus?" That works for well. I use the Romans Road to show the plan of salvation, I trust God uses what I share. Simple but it works. Hope this helps. Blessings. justme |

214 | E Pluribus Unum: Strength in Numbers? | NT general Archive 1 | justme | 91850
Hank:-) In all this translating that seems never ending into the English, the method and agenda a person or team translates is a very important fact to know. The NIV uses a functional equalivenant method. In fact all translators who are attempting to put Scripture into languages of people with unknown languages, use this method. There is an effort at least in English to use as close word for word as humanly possible. The NASB is one that comes to mind rather readly. That version is my favorite, especially the updated revision. I would add that it is important to know what the translators agenda is in making a new or improved translation. You and several others of us on the Forum had the sad experince of reviewing the TNIV. There is a clear and twisted agenda, by the translators in this case. The TNIV has a team effort, but they were all of the same twisted mind set. The NRSV is an example of the very same twisting of Scripture to achive an agenda. Any thoughts? Blesings Hank. justme |

215 | Women Preachers? Yes or No? | NT general Archive 1 | justme | 93509
journey me: Some would say that Paul was speaking to what was culture at that time. Just as now we no longer require a time of being unclean after child birth, why would a woman who is now educated, be told to be quiet? Could be some believe that all culture at the time of Jesus should be the same today. In such a case women are the mans possesion, and has no rights to vote or much of what we have today. Perhaps some who think in primative cultural terms might consider moving to Turkey, Iraq, where woman are required to cover their face. That is how illogical some would suggest women should be treated. I do not believe this is the teachings of Jesus. I do not consider women in any way whatsoever in the same catogory as sodomites, and to make any such assumption is an insult to any man or woman who calls themselves a Christlike person. Any thoughts you might have? Blessings. justme |

216 | times Mary appeared | NT general Archive 1 | justme | 97645
havequestions: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. I am a protestant, and will answer from that view point, ok. Mary was a special Humman woman that God so Chose her to Bare His Son in Humman form. Jesus was concieved by the Will of the Holy God. There was no one who had the requirements God needed for His Son in all of time past, then present, and now furture. Mary is worth of praise and our deepest respect, but not our worship or prayers. Mary did have other children with Joseph. When Mary died (Hebrews 9:27) she died as we will. From that time forth she has been with Jesus and appeared to no one. I have been to Bolivia, Pureu, Mexico, Columbia, and several places they have special spots where Mary appeared. These are not to gloriofy Jesus but Mary, which goes against Scripture. What or who these pppppeople claimed to see is open to question. There is no doubt in my mind it was not Mary. If you want to dialogue this more form my perspective I will. Blessings. justme |

217 | Just a thought. What's yours? | NT general Archive 1 | justme | 102505
GeorgeJoy: Greetings George. I am surer some of feel more free to express ourselves here than in our Church. For instance, very few knew of my cancer in Church, only the Elders and ppPastor and a few close to me. I did so so I would not detract any attention as our Church is in a transistion and that was far more important to me. I believe that the prayers of me alone can touch the very heart of God. More people does not mean God will be any more moved to do His will, but it does comfort the mind. George a Church does not hid behind assumed names, so as I see it you are more forth right than I, and I applaud you for that. I have rarely signed my name as it is, mainly only to Hank. Your idea of the Bible Study Forum being like a church is interesting though. I think there are similarities, but this is still a gathering place for fellowship and entertainment, which there is nothing wrong with. However this Forum can be addictive to the point we neglect our own personal Bible Study and prayers, and even other responsiblities and family. I have done this myself, and my wife has reminded me to keep it in perspective. Any thoughts George? Blessings. justme |

219 | IS THE GIFTS OF TONGUES AND HEALINGS FOR | NT general Archive 1 | justme | 109328
foreverfaithful: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! Your name is a worthy calling, for everyone. There are really only two possibilities to answer your question. Yes or no. There are many who would say no without a doubt, and defend their position with great vigor. I fall into the catagory that says, yes but with cauition. I have seem tongues rarely spoken according to Scripture only once in my life. I am 58, and that's a good length of time. Healing by someone on a stage attempting to "heal" I consider a lie from hell itself! I have been very ill many times, and near to death several times. I can testify to the Lords healing in my life. I have been anointed with oil, and confessed sin, and Elders prayed over me with hands on me. Only this summer I have undergone treatment for cancer. Do I believe in healing according to Scripture, yes because I have experienced it first hand. However May i remind you, any healing is only tempoary, as we all will die and if we have made Jesus Lord we will be with Him forever. The latter being much more to be desired. Blessings. justme |

220 | differences in bible translations? | NT general Archive 1 | justme | 109331
bcollier:I noticed you are fairly new to the Study Bible Forum, and we welcome you. You asked a good question. I see you have had a few answers already. May I add something? (you really have no choice) The NIV is quite reliable and well translated. The NIV is a dynamic equalivenant translation. The idea is to translate the thought into English as accurately as possible. So the NIV does not attempt to makea word for word translation, but rather to get the most accurate thought as it was and able to be put into English wich is not an easy task. Literal translations like the NASB, KJV, and several others, attempt to translate word for word what is in the orignal languages. This is not always possible and it can be done but even at best sometimes equalivenant words must be used. So there is no 100 percent perfectly translated word for word translation. One would have to know Greek and Hebrew to get it exact. However the NASB the KJV and others do an excllent job. I prefer the NASB updated Translation myself. I use the NIV sis by side when studing. The word differences are not critical, as they are convaying the same meaning. An interesting point is the KJV of 1611 took almost a century before it was accepted by clergy and reading people. There are many who use the KJV today. I find the English rather hard to understand as many word meanings have changed over the nearly last 400 years. Gay is altogether different today as back in 1611 just to name one instance. This subject has been one I have enjoyed studying about for more than 40 years, and I learn something new quite often. What are your thoughts about what's been said so far? justme |
