201 | SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH | Hebrews | Wild Olive Shoot | 174580
Dear FytRobert, You state: “but his suffering was effected before he realised his wrong doings and asked for forgiveness.” Do you believe that David thought adultery and murder were acceptable? I’m quite sure he knew it was wrong as he tried to hide and cover what he had done from the eyes of men. Look at Psalm 51, written after or during the events that took place in 2Samuel 12. The chronology (lacking of a more identifying term) of these events as put forth by God in His Word is that David sinned (2Sa 11:4, 2Sa 11:15), was convicted and acknowledged and confessed his sin (2Sa 12:7, 2Sa 12:13), was forgiven (2Sa 12:13) but still suffered the consequences immediately and for years to come (2Sa 12:10, 2Sa 12:11, 2Sa 12:14). That’s how it is recorded as I read. Note that 2Sa 12:10 and 2Sa 12:11 were announced prior to David’s confession and 2Sa 12:14 was after. Nathan announced the death of the child after David’s confession. Concerning your two “systems” as stated, the need to ask for forgiveness is not appropriate. Forgiveness is granted through Christ. If I would insert confession in place of forgiveness, I see both “systems” as being applicable. My friend, just look around you and it won’t be but a minute before you see the consequences of sin in both the saved an unsaved. For the saved however, these consequences are temporal. For the lost, I would surmise that they could be both temporal and spiritual. Not to go too far off track, we still suffer the consequences of Adam’s sin do we not? Just my thoughts. WOS |

202 | What day is the Sabbath? | Heb 4:9 | Wild Olive Shoot | 173006
Ray Stedman discussed some very good points concerning the Saturday Sabbath, the Old Testament Sabbath in “The Seventh Day” by Ray C. Stedman. You can see in its entirety at the following link: http://www.pbc.org/library/files/html/0310.html He speaks of the Sabbath as being a “shadow” of the rest we have in Christ. This as well as the other Old Testament shadows looked forward to Christ as He fulfilled and ended them. “When the work of Jesus Christ was finished the shadows were no longer needed.” – Ray C. Stedman Colossians 2:16,17: 16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. Hebrews 4:8-10: 8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 203 | Mediator | Heb 4:16 | Wild Olive Shoot | 188986
Dear Christian 2003, Hank's response to you was on the mark. No need for any others. But just as encouragement for some of the other answers you may receive will be off the mark, please read the following. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. “Never has a prayer ascended to God save through Jesus Christ. Never has a blessing come down to man save through the same Divine Mediator. There is now a highway, a way of holiness wherein the redeemed can walk to God, and God can come to us. The king's highway” – C. H. Spurgeon “no man cometh unto the Father but by me; Christ is the only way of access unto the Father; there is no coming to God as an absolute God, not upon the foot of the covenant of works, nor without a Mediator; and the only Mediator between God and man is Christ: he introduces and presents the persons and services of his people to his Father, and gives them acceptance with him.” – John Gill 1Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; …”according to Paul, Christ's giving himself a ransom was a necessary part of the Mediator's office; and indeed this lays the foundation for his intercession.” – Matthew Henry Ephesians 2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; “in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; for all the mercies of God's people, both temporal and spiritual, come through him, and for his sake; and thanksgivings for them are only acceptable to God as they are offered up by him; nor is there any other way of bringing them to God, but through him:” – John Gill “In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ - That is, through his mediation, or trusting in him;” – Albert Barnes Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. 204 | Scripture alone? | James 1:5 | Wild Olive Shoot | 191883
Dear Parable, Probably not a good “game” to participate in. Most of us realize that Scripture not taken in context can be very dangerous and I’ll refer to Christ’s temptation in the wilderness where satan used Scripture out of context to tempt our Lord. So although you should maybe be commended for your efforts to keep study interesting with ways anew and enlightening, this effort may fall short of achieving that purpose and actually be harmful for some. Matthew 4:1-11: 1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, 6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him. 205 | how do we overcome the lust of the world | James 4:10 | Wild Olive Shoot | 174554
Dear Steveec, Welcome to the forum. The following comes to mind in answer to your question. In overcoming the lusts of this world, we must acknowledge that it is something that cannot be done of ourselves alone. James 4:7-10: 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. “Jam 4:10 - Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord,.... Which is done, when men, before the Lord, and from their hearts, and in the sincerity of their souls, acknowledge their meanness and unworthiness, their vileness, sinfulness, and wretchedness, and implore the grace and mercy of God in Christ, as did Abraham, Jacob, Job, Isaiah, Paul, and the publican; and when they walk humbly with God, acknowledging they can do nothing without him; owning their dependence on his grace, and ascribing all they have, and are, unto it:” – John Gill’s Exposition of the Entire Bible 1John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. “God, who dwells in your hearts, and by whose strength and grace alone you have been enabled to achieve this victory, is more mighty than Satan, who rules in the hearts of the people of this world, and whose seductive arts are seen in the efforts of these false teachers. The apostle meant to say that it was by no power of their own that they achieved this victory, but it was to be traced solely to the fact that God dwelt among them, and had preserved them by his grace. What was true then is true now. He who dwells in the hearts of Christians by his Spirit, is infinitely more mighty than Satan, “the ruler of the darkness of this world;” and victory, therefore, over all his arts and temptations may be sure. In his conflicts with sin, temptation, and error, the Christian should never despair, for his God will insure him the victory.” – Albert Barnes’ Notes on the Bible Romans 8:35-39: 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. …” strength to perform duty and to bear sufferings is in Christ, and which he communicates to his people; he strengthens them with strength in their souls, internally, as the word here used signifies; by virtue of which they can do whatever he enjoins them or calls them to, though without him they can do nothing.” John Gill WOS John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. |

206 | Does God answer the prayers on a sinner? | James 5:16 | Wild Olive Shoot | 150705
If God loves us enough to send Christ for us: Romans 5:8 (NIV) 8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. I would say that He would listen to us as well. If he does not listen to sinners, there are a whole bunch of people being ignored because we all sin: 1 John 1:7-9 (NIV) 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 2:1-3 (NIV) 1My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. 3We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. I would add though: 1 John 3:4-10 (NIV) 4Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. 7Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work. 9No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. 10This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother. 207 | Can we pray for others sins to be forgiv | James 5:16 | Wild Olive Shoot | 201667
Dear megbiehn, You have been given some sound advice from others, let me add if I may, some scripture and words of encouragement from C.H. Spurgeon. 1Timothy 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; “Continue to pray, brethren, for even if you should not want prayer yourself there are others who do—there are the dying, the sick, the poor, the ignorant, the backsliding, the blaspheming, the heathen at home, and the heathen abroad. "Pray without ceasing," for the enemy works incessantly, and as yet the kingdom has not come unto Zion. You shall never be able to say, "I left off praying, for I had nothing to pray for." This side heaven objects for prayer are as multitudinous as the stars of the sky.” – C.H. Spurgeon Ephesian 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. “I put in a practical word here. If you rejoice that you are pardoned, show your gratitude by your imitation of Christ. There was never before such a plea as this, "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do." Plead like that for others. Has anybody been injuring you? Are there persons who slander you? Pray to-night, "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do." Let us always render good for evil, blessing for cursing; and when we are called to suffer through the wrong-doing of others, let us believe that they would not act as they do if it were not because of their ignorance. Let us pray for them; and make their very ignorance the plea for their forgiveness: "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."… “Send up this petition, ye people of God! Heap your prayers together with cumulative power, send up this fiery shaft of prayer, straight to the heart of God, while Jesus from his throne shall add his prevalent intercession, "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do." – C.H. Spurgeon Prayer is to be made for everything lawful, for those living and who will live in the hereafter. But never for the dead or for those who have sinned the sin unto death. Prayer is for life. 1Jn 5:16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. Stand in His grace, WOS |

209 | Why does theology matter? | 1 Pet 3:15 | Wild Olive Shoot | 204172
Dear Tamara, Hear are a couple of quotes that I think answer your question pretty well. “First of all, theology simply means the study of God. This is something that every Christian needs to realize. I think the way that the word has been used in the past has frightened many Christians away from it, even though they never stopped to consider what the word actually meant. People got the idea somewhere that theology is the business of the seminary professors and the clergy, but has very little to do with the day to day living of the Christian life. It's something people seem to think you can get along without, provided that you read your Bible daily and think one or two guiding thoughts from your passage to keep you on the rails. I do not believe it is at all like that. But theology means the study of God, and if we are to love God, as we are commanded, with all our 'minds' them we need to be in the business of theology. So when I speak of theology, I am referring to the truth that God has given us all in Scripture which we all need to learn and digest. It is truth for life!” – J.I. Packer http://www.founders.org/journal/fj16/interview.html “Knowing about God is crucially important for the living of our lives. . . . We are cruel to ourselves if we try to live in this world without knowing about the God whose world it is and who runs it. The world becomes a strange, mad, painful place, and life in it a disappointing and unpleasant business, for those who do not know about God. Disregard the study of God, and you sentence yourself to stumble and blunder through life, blindfold, as it were, with no sense of direction and no understanding of what surrounds you. This way, you can waste your life and lose your soul.” – J.I. Packer http://www.gotquestions.org/what-is-theology.html Stand in His grace, WOS |

210 | How do we get saved, by baptism? | 1 Pet 3:21 | Wild Olive Shoot | 203805
Dear Tamara, A belated welcome to the forum sister. In response to reconciling the scripture you have referenced with baptismal requirements for salvation, may I present these thoughts to you? Circumcision was and is no longer the covenant requirement. The covenant is now of grace as implied by Galatians 5:6, faith working thorough love. God will always have his chosen by grace that will not fall away eternally as implied in Romans 11:5. The verses in 1 Peter support that God’s chosen, though chosen, will still endure various trials for reasons specified but again, will not fall away permanently being guarded through faith by God’s power. Romans 8:38 also supports the fact that there is nothing that can separate us from the love of God though that same faith. As I see it, they all stand together to show the grace of God toward His chosen. In salvation, nothing other than God’s grace is a factor. Our obedience to baptism is a response or a reaction for lack of better terms to that grace. We love because He first loved us. And as an added thought, to the question of; “do you believe that salvation is granted as soon as you believe”, may I quote the following? Romans 8:28-33: And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. It’s very difficult to reconcile single verses with one another when in context with others they support the one and the same thing therefore not needing to be reconciled, salvation by grace alone through faith alone through Christ alone. Just some thoughts... Stand in His grace, WOS |

212 | What would change End-Times? | 2 Pet 3:12 | Wild Olive Shoot | 156246
God’s plan is eternal and unchanging. Nothing we do can altar that. We can’t force God’s hand and usher in the return of Christ. The return of Christ has already been established. We however, are not to know when that will be. God already knows and we can be sure, it will happen on His time, not ours. Matthew 24:30-37(KJV) 30And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. 32Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. 35Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. 36But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Psalm 75:2(AMP) 2When the proper time has come [for executing My judgments], I will judge uprightly [says the Lord]. John 11:4-7(AMP) 4When Jesus received the message, He said, This sickness is not to end in death; but [on the contrary] it is to honor God and to promote His glory, that the Son of God may be glorified through (by) it. 5Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. [They were His dear friends, and He held them in loving esteem.] 6Therefore [even] when He heard that Lazarus was sick, He still stayed two days longer in the same place where He was. 7Then after that interval He said to His disciples, Let us go back again to Judea. Isaiah 14:26-27(NIV) 26 This is the plan determined for the whole world; this is the hand stretched out over all nations. 27 For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back? Job 42:2(NASB) 2"I know that You can do all things, And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted. WOS |

213 | John and 1 John by the same John? | 1 John 1:3 | Wild Olive Shoot | 184629
Hi Phylbee, Both are by the same John, the son of Zebedee, the disciple whom Jesus loved. Written around AD 85-90, a generation or so would have passed since John was an eyewitness to Jesus' ministry. Those to whom this was written were more than likely as we are, not having a first-hand witness of Christ. As we rely on the New Testament witness, they relied on the disciples / Apostles. 1John 1:1-5: 1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; 2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) 3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. 5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. Tashu1900, some scripture for you to consider in answer to your question, it concerns both Peter and Paul. Stand in His grace, WOS 1John 1:5-9: 5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. John 13:37,38: 37 Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake. 38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice. John 18:17: Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man's disciples? He saith, I am not. John 18:25 – 27: 25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not. 26 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him? 27 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew. John 21:15-17: 15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. 16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. 17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. Acts 8:1 – 3: 1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. 2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. 3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison. Acts 9:1-6: 1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, 2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. 3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. 1Timothy 1:12 – 15: 12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; 13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. 14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. |

216 | Jesus comitted a suicide ? | 1 John 3:16 | Wild Olive Shoot | 165512
You misunderstand what it was that Christ did for you. He did not take His own life, He gave it up for you. He gave, He didn’t take. He gave all and took nothing. 1 John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. Concerning Job, yes, he desired death but never considered taking his own life, he begged God to do it, and was wrong in requesting it. “How uneasy soever the soul's confinement in the body may be, it must by no means break prison, but wait for a fair discharge.” – Matthew Henry “The vanity of human life; so uncertain a good is it that it often proves men's greatest burden and nothing is so desirable as to get clear of it. Let grace make us willing to part with it whenever God calls; for it may so happen that even sense may make us desirous to part with it before he calls.” – Matthew Henry We must hate our lives in this world in comparison to the “other world”. We must love it more in order to obtain it. John 12:24-26: 24Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. 25He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. You can only be saved by the grace of God, through faith in Christ. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Smoking is a sin as you purposely harm the Temple of God. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 19What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. Yes you are lying. WOS |

217 | Are silent protests scriptural? | 1 John 3:17 | Wild Olive Shoot | 155902
I think if you are looking for Scripture to validate a specific individual action, in which there is much controversy because it doesn’t speak directly to the act, in this case, a silent protest involving tape over one’s mouth, then you have to look at the end result of the act and determine whether or not it brings glory to God. If it doesn’t, maybe it is not the appropriate act to engage in. Personally, I don’t see how taping ones mouth with the word life printed on it is glorifying God. We see many protests today engaging an array of topics in which Christians deem as godless and immoral acts. Many are pushed to the limits and end up perpetrating evil for evil such is the case when things go awry and lead to violence. That’s not bringing glory to our Lord. We have a right to peacefully assemble in protest without fear of persecution. We remain civilly obedient as long as we protest within the parameters of the laws put forth by our governing body. But what are the products, the results, of these protests? Usually they are without results or at least without positive results. But in any case, I think they serve somewhat of a purpose. They show the general public and the lawmakers that there are those willing to make a stand. But where we need to make that stand is in the election booth. Until that happens, I think we can protest all we want to the same results. We have one of the greatest freedoms in the world today. We actually have a voice in choosing our leaders. Until we speak up and make use of that voice, all the protesting in the world isn’t going to change a thing. Putting tape over your mouth and silently protesting, in my opinion, isn’t using our collective voice to accomplish anything. But again, in anything being done, I would look to the end result. Ultimately, does the act itself bring glory to God? Just my thoughts. WOS |

218 | Why is Jesus Not called the Messiah? | 1 John 5:1 | Wild Olive Shoot | 174233
The following is taken from Easton's Bible Dictionary: "Christ Anointed, the Greek translation of the Hebrew word rendered “Messiah” (q.v.), the official title of our Lord, occurring five hundred and fourteen times in the New Testament. It denotes that he was anointed or consecrated to his great redemptive work as Prophet, Priest, and King of his people. He is Jesus the Christ (Act_17:3; Act_18:5; Mat_22:42), the Anointed One. He is thus spoken of by Isaiah (Isa_61:1), and by Daniel (Dan_9:24-26), who styles him “Messiah the Prince.” The Messiah is the same person as “the seed of the woman” (Gen_3:15), “the seed of Abraham” (Gen_22:18), the “Prophet like unto Moses” (Deu_18:15), “the priest after the order of Melchizedek” (Psa_110:4), “the rod out of the stem of Jesse” (Isa_11:1, Isa_11:10), the “Immanuel,” the virgin's son (Isa_7:14), “the branch of Jehovah” (Isa_4:2), and “the messenger of the covenant” (Mal_3:1). This is he “of whom Moses in the law and the prophets did write.” The Old Testament Scripture is full of prophetic declarations regarding the Great Deliverer and the work he was to accomplish. Jesus the Christ is Jesus the Great Deliverer, the Anointed One, the Saviour of men. This name denotes that Jesus was divinely appointed, commissioned, and accredited as the Saviour of men (Heb_5:4; Isa_11:2-4; Isa_49:6; Joh_5:37; Act_2:22). To believe that “Jesus is the Christ” is to believe that he is the Anointed, the Messiah of the prophets, the Saviour sent of God, that he was, in a word, what he claimed to be. This is to believe the gospel, by the faith of which alone men can be brought unto God. That Jesus is the Christ is the testimony of God, and the faith of this constitutes a Christian (1Co_12:3; 1Jo_5:1)." Welcome to the forum. WOS |

219 | the first love | Rev 2:4 | Wild Olive Shoot | 201157
Psalms 37:24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand. Dear blue.eyes, I imagine there are many who feel, at one time or another, that they have pulled away from that first love. I know I have. However, I have found comfort in the grace of God and knowing that being His, although at times I have seemed let go of Him, He has never and will never let go of me. And when I have turned from Him, He graciously returns me to Him because of the faith He has freely given me, Christ’s intercession as well as the abiding of the Spirit. Jeremiah 31:3 The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. 1John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. God has done so much for us and continues to do so even though we deserve none of it. In knowing that, it should place upon your heart the drive and determination and longing to be as close to Him as you can and to stay there. Micah 7:7 But as for me, I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me. “When I fall, and am in danger of being dashed in pieces by the fall, yet I shall arise, and recover myself again. I fall, but am not utterly cast down,” Psa_37:24. (3.) “When I sit in darkness, desolate and disconsolate, melancholy and perplexed, and not knowing what to do, nor which way to look for relief, yet then the Lord shall be a light to me, to comfort and revive me, to instruct and teach me, to direct and guide me, as a light to my eyes, a light to my feet, a light in a dark place.” – Matthew Henry 1John 4:19 We love because he first loved us. 2Thessalonoians 3:5 May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ. “Confess that a kind reception of you by God must be of grace alone. Nothing but grace can open a door for our returning. Sinners cannot be received of the Lord on any other terms but those of mercy. We would not ask to be dealt with according to our merits; but we thank the Lord that he hath not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. As to our sins, we cannot answer him one of a thousand. The Lord must receive us graciously or reject us righteously. Are we not glad that sinners can be received in the name of grace, and find a welcome in the tender mercy of our God? Offer, then, this petition, "Receive us graciously." I am not content merely to talk to you about these gracious words; I want every soul here to use them in personal prayer. Oh, that the Lord would touch all lips by his grace, and lead them to say from the heart—"Lord, receive me, I return to thee. Take away all iniquity, and take me to thyself! Receive me as a subject of thy kingdom. Receive me of thy grace into thy home of love. Receive me into the family of thy redeemed on earth, and then receive me into thy mansion in heaven. 'Receive us graciously.” - C.H. Spurgeon http://www.biblebb.com/files/spurgeon/2192.htm Simply return to Him blue.eyes. Know His grace, react to His grace and live in His grace through faith in Christ. And referring to love, always keep this fact in mind, love is active: 1John 2:2 -5: 2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. Dear messiah6986745434, I didn’t do an exhaustive search, but think the below may be what you are referring to. There was one who was able to open it. Revelation 5:2-5: 2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? 3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. 4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. 5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
