201 | forgiveness | Matt 5:24 | Wild Olive Shoot | 151863
The question may better be; Aren’t we unfit to commune with God until we forgive. Mark 11:25 (NASB) 25"Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions. Is the offering acceptable to God if offered with an unrepentant heart? Or in the present case, seeking God’s forgiveness at the altar is a religious exercise, is it a proper exercise if you hold malice, envy, discontent or any form of wrath in our heart when we approach God? 1 Timothy 2:8 (NASB) 8Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension. Isaiah 1:15 (NASB) 15"So when you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide My eyes from you; Yes, even though you multiply prayers, I will not listen Your hands are covered with blood. Love is better than any sacrifice or gift you can offer. So much better that God will wait for the gift (or whatever the act may be) until reconciliation is made with the brother rather than receiving it while we are still under the guilt of our quarrel or disagreement. 202 | what is the diff btwn conse and sanctifc | Ex 28:3 | Wild Olive Shoot | 151541
It's not you. There is no difference as far as I can tell. The words are used interchangeably both meaning to set apart as holy. If I’m not mistaken, the same Hebrew word is used in the original text in both verses. I’ve read however, that sanctify in the NT also took on the meaning to free from guilt and sin, to cleanse externally or purify as well as setting apart as holy. WOS |

203 | can you lose your salvation or not? | 2 Cor 1:22 | Wild Olive Shoot | 151512
Don't know if this will answer your question or not, but it will give you the words to ponder. 2 Corinthians 1:18-22. If God sets His seal of ownership on us, who are we to take it way. Will not God be able to watch over His own? Will God lose those that belong to Him? Many will disagree on the issue of whether or not one can lose salvation. If you search on salvation in the search provided, you'll see many different views. WOS |

204 | Jn3:16 ;1Jn2:15 Do/don't love the world | John 3:16 | Wild Olive Shoot | 150895
Starfire, I’m not the expert, there are others within the Forum who can surely enlighten you better that than I. But a quick search at the link listed below would lead me to believe that there is a difference in the use of the word “world” in both of the verses you cited when taken in context. Kosmos is the original word and it is used in the following manner within scripture. Kosmos: 1) an apt and harmonious arrangement or constitution, order, government 2) ornament, decoration, adornment, i.e. the arrangement of the stars, 'the heavenly hosts', as the ornament of the heavens. 1 Pet. 3:3 3) the world, the universe 4) the circle of the earth, the earth 5) the inhabitants of the earth, men, the human family 6) the ungodly multitude; the whole mass of men alienated from God, and therefore hostile to the cause of Christ 7) world affairs, the aggregate of things earthly a) the whole circle of earthly goods, endowments riches, advantages, pleasures, etc, which although hollow and frail and fleeting, stir desire, seduce from God and are obstacles to the cause of Christ 8) any aggregate or general collection of particulars of any sort a) the Gentiles as contrasted to the Jews (Rom. 11:12 etc) b) of believers only, John 1:29; 3:16; 3:17; 6:33; 12:47 1 Cor. 4:9; 2 Cor. 5:19 In John 3:16 it may refer to the inhabitants of the earth, men, the human family. In 1 John 2:15 in context it could be meaning to convey; the ungodly multitude; the whole mass of men alienated from God, and therefore hostile to the cause of Christ or world affairs, the aggregate of things earthly. 206 | Does God answer the prayers on a sinner? | James 5:16 | Wild Olive Shoot | 150705
If God loves us enough to send Christ for us: Romans 5:8 (NIV) 8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. I would say that He would listen to us as well. If he does not listen to sinners, there are a whole bunch of people being ignored because we all sin: 1 John 1:7-9 (NIV) 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 2:1-3 (NIV) 1My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. 3We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. I would add though: 1 John 3:4-10 (NIV) 4Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. 7Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work. 9No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. 10This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother. 208 | The land of Nod? | Gen 4:17 | Wild Olive Shoot | 150614
http://www.gotquestions.org/Cains-wife.html Question: “Who was Cain's wife?" Answer: The Bible does not specifically say who Cain’s wife was. The only possible answer was that she was his sister or niece or great-niece, etc. The Bible does not say how old Cain was when he killed Abel (Genesis 4:8). Since they were both farmers, they were likely both full-grown adults, possibly with families of their own. Adam and Eve had surely had more children than just Cain and Abel at the time Abel was killed - they definitely had many more children later (Genesis 5:4). The fact that Cain was scared for his own life after he killed Abel (Genesis 4:14) indicates that there were likely many other children and perhaps even grandchildren or great-grandchildren of Adam and Eve at that time. Cain's wife (Genesis 4:17) was a daughter or granddaughter of Adam and Eve. Since Adam and Eve were the first (and only) human beings, their children would have no other choice than to intermarry. God did not forbid inter-family marriage until much later when there was enough people that intermarriage was not necessary (Leviticus 18:6-18). The reason that incest often results in genetic abnormalities in children is that when two people of similar genetics (i.e. a brother and sister) have children – genetic defects are far more likely to result because both parents had the same defects themselves. When people from different families have children – it is highly unlikely that both parents will have the same genetic defects. The human genetic code has become increasingly “polluted” over the centuries as genetic defects are multiplied, amplified, and passed down from generation to generation. Adam and Eve did not have any genetic defects, so that enabled them and the first few generations of their descendants to have a far greater quality of health than we do now. Adam and Eve’s children had few, if any, genetic defects. As a result, it was safe for them to intermarry. © Copyright 2002-2005 Got Questions Ministries. Is this what you were searching for? 1 Kings 18:16-46 Elijah on Mount Carmel 16 So Obadiah went to meet Ahab and told him, and Ahab went to meet Elijah. 17 When he saw Elijah, he said to him, "Is that you, you troubler of Israel?" 18 "I have not made trouble for Israel," Elijah replied. "But you and your father's family have. You have abandoned the LORD's commands and have followed the Baals. 19 Now summon the people from all over Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel. And bring the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel's table." 20 So Ahab sent word throughout all Israel and assembled the prophets on Mount Carmel. 21 Elijah went before the people and said, "How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him." But the people said nothing. 22 Then Elijah said to them, "I am the only one of the LORD's prophets left, but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets. 23 Get two bulls for us. Let them choose one for themselves, and let them cut it into pieces and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. 24 Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD. The god who answers by fire—he is God." Then all the people said, "What you say is good." 25 Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, "Choose one of the bulls and prepare it first, since there are so many of you. Call on the name of your god, but do not light the fire." 26 So they took the bull given them and prepared it. Then they called on the name of Baal from morning till noon. "O Baal, answer us!" they shouted. But there was no response; no one answered. And they danced around the altar they had made. 27 At noon Elijah began to taunt them. "Shout louder!" he said. "Surely he is a god! Perhaps he is deep in thought, or busy, or traveling. Maybe he is sleeping and must be awakened." 28 So they shouted louder and slashed themselves with swords and spears, as was their custom, until their blood flowed. 29 Midday passed, and they continued their frantic prophesying until the time for the evening sacrifice. But there was no response, no one answered, no one paid attention. 30 Then Elijah said to all the people, "Come here to me." They came to him, and he repaired the altar of the LORD, which was in ruins. 31 Elijah took twelve stones, one for each of the tribes descended from Jacob, to whom the word of the LORD had come, saying, "Your name shall be Israel." 32 With the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD, and he dug a trench around it large enough to hold two seahs [a] of seed. 33 He arranged the wood, cut the bull into pieces and laid it on the wood. Then he said to them, "Fill four large jars with water and pour it on the offering and on the wood." 34 "Do it again," he said, and they did it again. "Do it a third time," he ordered, and they did it the third time. 35 The water ran down around the altar and even filled the trench. 36 At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: "O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. 37 Answer me, O LORD, answer me, so these people will know that you, O LORD, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again." 38 Then the fire of the LORD fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench. 39 When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, "The LORD -he is God! The LORD -he is God!" 40 Then Elijah commanded them, "Seize the prophets of Baal. Don't let anyone get away!" They seized them, and Elijah had them brought down to the Kishon Valley and slaughtered there. 41 And Elijah said to Ahab, "Go, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a heavy rain." 42 So Ahab went off to eat and drink, but Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees. 43 "Go and look toward the sea," he told his servant. And he went up and looked. "There is nothing there," he said. Seven times Elijah said, "Go back." 44 The seventh time the servant reported, "A cloud as small as a man's hand is rising from the sea." So Elijah said, "Go and tell Ahab, 'Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.' " 45 Meanwhile, the sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose, a heavy rain came on and Ahab rode off to Jezreel. 46 The power of the LORD came upon Elijah and, tucking his cloak into his belt, he ran ahead of Ahab all the way to Jezreel. 210 | Can anyone tell how he understand that? | John 6:54 | Wild Olive Shoot | 150231
If one concludes that our Lord Jesus broke no laws established by God under the Old Covenant, then one would also have to conclude that Jesus was not making a literal reference to His flesh and His blood. Otherwise, Jesus disobeyed the Law established in Leviticus 17:10-11. But in all, I'm just not real certain. However, rather than focusing on individual beliefs and pushing personal opinions that further confuse and ultimately harm someone in search of a beneficial answer, as some have done, I believe you should view the referenced Scripture as such: Some believe the bread and wine actually become Christ's flesh and blood. Some believe the bread and wine do not physically change but Christ is spiritually present. Yet others believe the bread and wine are merely symbolic. Though many will differ in their opinions of what it actually is or what it becomes, the common sentiment among Christians is that the Lord's Supper is an important element and that however we view the bread and wine, when we partake, it strengthens us spiritually. 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 (NIV)23For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." 25In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me." 26For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. Pertaining to what has been presented in this forum on this issue, and many others, all sides present very strong arguments for their position. But keep in mind, they are human arguments, and they are fallible. What is not fallible however, is the Word of God. Seek it and ask for your answer. Don’t be surprised if you get it. WOS |

211 | Christian friends dont want stop sinning | 1 Cor 5:11 | Wild Olive Shoot | 150177
And Paul later followed up 1 Corinthians 5:11 in the second letter to the Corinthians in our Bible. 2 Corinthians 2:5-11 (NIV) 5If anyone has caused grief, he has not so much grieved me as he has grieved all of you, to some extent—not to put it too severely. 6The punishment inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient for him. 7Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. 8I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him. 9The reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. 10If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And what I have forgiven—if there was anything to forgive—I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, 11in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes. 1 Thessalonians 5:11(NIV) Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:14-15(NIV) 14And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else. Hebrews 3:13 (NIV) But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. Hebrews 10:25 (NIV) Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. If you are strong enough, you should attempt to encourage and build your friend up. Rebuke and correct. However, if you are in danger of falling into the same practices by associating with him, remove yourself. WOS |

The following link may help you. http://www.gotquestions.org/fasting.html If he feels secure in his relationship with the Lord, he may not feel that he is in need of fasting. That's okay. Fasting is a way to focus on God and to bring you closer to Him. Our relationship with God is a personal one. Only He and I know truly what state our relationship with one another is in. If the Pastor feels he is that close to God and is comfortable in that relationship then it seems appropriate that he would see fasting as unnecessary. I feel there is always room for us to draw more near to God, but that is just me. WOS |

213 | Why was God unhappy with Cains offering? | Gen 4:5 | Wild Olive Shoot | 149883
The Bible does not actually say why the Lord did not accept Cain’s offering. One can only speculate the Cain had an improper attitude or the offering was not up to God’s standards. Proverbs 21:27 tells us that God does not like the sacrifices of evil people or sacrifices made with clandestine reasons in mind. God does evaluate both our hearts and the quality of what we offer him. God should get the best of us, whatever the offering is. After all, what we give to God reflects our true attitude toward Him. We should be joyful givers in the same. Malachi 1:6-14 is good for understanding unworthy sacrifices and God’s attitude of them. WOS |

215 | 1 Thess. 5:17 | Jer 29:12 | Wild Olive Shoot | 149843
Does prayer really help? Yes. Prayer helps in many ways. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 shows us that prayer can help us to lead peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness and that it pleases God. It also helps us to overcome temptation, to keep us from sinning. We pray for strength to overcome because our bodies are weak but our spirits are willing. (Matthew 26:41) Prayer also helps us to focus on God, which is where are focus should be anyhow. Psalm 77 shows us how God can shift our focus to where it should be when we pray. As Asaph prayed, he began with a whole bunch of “I”, v1-12. But as he continued in prayer, God re-focused Asaph to worshipping Him, v13-20. Prayer can put us under God’s control. Who better to lead us? Many people see prayer as a chance to ask God to perform some sort of cosmic trick. The attempt to use prayer for good fortune or spectacular events instead of using it to desire God’s pardon or love. Luke 6:19 shows how many react to God and the sense of His magic. But rather than using prayer to control God, which is futile to begin with, we should use prayer to submit ourselves to God, to come under His control. This is only a sampling of what prayer can do. What kind of prayers does God answer? I believe He answers those that are aligned with His will, although, we see times when He answered a prayer in the affirmative to ungrateful or lustful requests as with the quail and following plague in Numbers 11. So be careful what you pray for. For requests made that are aligned with God’s will, He answers them in His own way, in His own time. We must be open to what God can do and allow Him to answer His way, even if we seem the situation as impossible. 1 John 5:14-15(NIV) 14This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him. Galatians 4:4 (NIV) But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, God’s timing is perfect. At the right time He will respond. Trust His judgment and timing. God does hear and answer the prayers of those who are His. Now the answer may not always be in the affirmative. It may be no, or even wait. But He will hear and He will answer. Psalm 4:3 (NIV) Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD will hear when I call to him. How can one develop an attitude of prayer? True prayer is an outpouring of the soul or a crying out to God. In true prayer we see our guilt but also our joy of knowing we are forgiving. We not only bow to God in search of His mercy, but we offer thanksgiving for the grace He offers. Develop a prayerful attitude by thinking about it and doing it. Sow a thought; reap an action. Sow an action; reap a habit. Sow a habit; reap a character. Sow a character; reap a destiny. Martin Luther said prayer should be “the first business of the morning and the last at night.” He said to “cultivate the habit of falling asleep with the Lord’s Prayer on your lips every evening when you go to bed and again every morning when you get up.” Just do it. Don’t worry about not knowing what to pray; Romans 8:26(NIV) In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. It seems that the prayer I have been hearing are no more than begging God for things? Is that the object of prayer? In 1 Kings 8:56-60 we see Solomon praying. It is a good pattern for us to follow. It contained 5 basic requests. Prayed for God’s presence; The desire to do God’s will; The desire and ability to obey God; Help with each day; Spread the Kingdom of God throughout the world. Jesus then showed us in Matthew 6:5-15 the example of how our prayers should be structured. Praise God; Pray for His work; Pray for daily needs; Pray for help in daily struggles. The object of prayer, I think, is to first honor God as God with praise and thanksgiving. Then humble yourself and ask for His help in your life. Submit yourself to Him. Then ask how you may serve, not so much what can you get out of it. Prayer should, could and can and will bring you closer to the Almighty God. God will answer those prayers that are aligned with His will. Matthew 21:22 (NIV) If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." WOS |

I think more along the lines that the Kingdom will start with small beginnings and grow and produce great results. I think you could also view this as Christianity starting out small and growing into a worldwide community of believers. God is building a worldwide Kingdom. The turn on yeast is interesting to me. Elsewhere it is used to depict evil of uncleanness. But Jesus used it here as a symbol of growth. The little minor ingredient of yeast permeates the whole loaf. So although the Kingdom started small and barely visible, it would grow and have a humungous impact on the world. WOS |

218 | What does Galatians 1:1-2 mean | Galatians | Wild Olive Shoot | 149135
Galatians 1:1Paul,an apostle (not sent from men nor through the agency of man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead), 2and all the brethren who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: Paul, in writing this letter to the churches of Galatia, was addressing the letter in Greek fashion. Beginning with a formal salutation, the writer’s name, the recipient’s name and a greeting. In this he addresses himself with the title of Apostle. Those who had the unique authority from Christ to be His representative and the founders of the church used this title. Judaizing teachers were corrupting the Galatians by insisting Paul was teaching the “new” religion improperly. They claimed his commission as an Apostle was deputed or subordinate to the others, and that although Paul spoke to them against the doctrine of circumcision, he had indeed, given into it at other times in other places. Their claim was that he was subordinate to the other Apostles who were commissioned by Christ directly, when Christ walked with them. Paul was pointing out that his authority as an Apostle was indeed from Christ and not from any human agency. He points out that the risen Lord had directly commissioned Paul. Although Paul had not seen Christ in His humility, he had seen Christ and been commissioned in His resurrection power. Therefore Paul was an Apostle equal to the others and those who challenged his words were in reality challenging the words of our Lord. When speaking of all the brethren that were with him, he was revealing that he was not alone in his doctrine and those who were with him and traveling with him shared the same. People such as, Gaius and Aristarchus from Acts 19:29 and Sopater, Secundus, Timothy and Tychicus from Acts 20:4. Although those with him were not joint authors with him while writing, they did send their greetings and sentiments. Paul began the Epistle in this manner because he was soon to be defending his teaching due to the Galatians quick fall from the Gospel Paul had taught them when the Judaizers were infiltrating and denouncing Paul’s teachings. What Paul had taught the Galatians was not something that man made up. He received it by revelation from Jesus Christ. The Judaizers were preaching a perverted gospel and Paul would be attempting to bring them back to the truth. The first two versus of Galatians Chapter 1 really shows Paul’s authority and where it actually comes from as well as those he knows to be men of the true Gospel who were with him. WOS |

219 | What is a prisoner of the Lord? | Eph 4:1 | Wild Olive Shoot | 149126
Paul was in prison in Rome when writing this Epistle. He was imprisoned for the Lord's cause, something that he was not ashamed of. What we see as being shameful and disgraceful, to be imprisoned, Paul considered the highest honor since he was imprisoned for God Himself, or for speaking the truths of God. Paul previously mentioned in Ephesians 3:1 that he was a prisoner of Christ. He was a prisoner because he was suffering for Christ’s sake and Christ’s cause. In that he placed the greatest honor, as should we. Keep in mind, while Paul considered his self a prisoner of Christ the Lord, remaining His faithful servant, Christ still cared for and protected him. Paul lived for Christ and Christ owned him. Therefore, Paul was a prisoner in Christ. But nonetheless, a prisoner for us, because it was his bringing God’s word to us for which he was imprisoned. WOS |
