181 | The dress code of the day? | Matt 22:11 | Wild Olive Shoot | 156249
I’ve read that it was customary for the wedding guests to be given “wedding clothes†to be worn at the banquet. To refuse to wear them would insult the host. The guest was seen as arrogant as though he didn’t need the clothes, or that he didn’t want to participate in the celebration. In the parable, the wedding clothes are the righteousness needed to enter God’s Kingdom. Christ has provided the clothes of righteousness. We much chose to put them on. “Observe, This hypocrite was never discovered to be without a wedding garment, till the king himself came in to see the guests. Note, It is God's prerogative to know who are sound at heart in their profession, and who are not. We may be deceived in men, either one way or other; but He cannot. The day of judgment will be the great discovering day, when all the guests will be presented to the King:… As soon as he came in, he presently espied the hypocrite; He saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment; though but one, he soon had his eye upon him; there is no hope of being hid in a crowd from the arrests of divine justice; he had not on a wedding garment; he was not dressed as became a nuptial solemnity; he had not his best clothes on. Note, Many come to the wedding feast without a wedding garment. If the gospel be the wedding feast, then the wedding garment is a frame of heart, and a course of life agreeable to the gospel and our profession of it, worthy of the vocation wherewith we are called (Eph_4:1), as becomes the gospel of Christ, Phi_1:27. The righteousness of saints, their real holiness and sanctification, and Christ, made Righteousness to them, is the clean linen, Rev_19:8. This man was not naked, or in rags; some raiment he had, but not a wedding garment. Those, and those only, who put on the Lord Jesus, that have a Christian temper of mind, and are adorned with Christian graces, who live by faith in Christ, and to whom he is all in all, have the wedding garment.†– Matthew Henry WOS |

182 | What would change End-Times? | 2 Pet 3:12 | Wild Olive Shoot | 156246
God’s plan is eternal and unchanging. Nothing we do can altar that. We can’t force God’s hand and usher in the return of Christ. The return of Christ has already been established. We however, are not to know when that will be. God already knows and we can be sure, it will happen on His time, not ours. Matthew 24:30-37(KJV) 30And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. 32Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. 35Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. 36But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Psalm 75:2(AMP) 2When the proper time has come [for executing My judgments], I will judge uprightly [says the Lord]. John 11:4-7(AMP) 4When Jesus received the message, He said, This sickness is not to end in death; but [on the contrary] it is to honor God and to promote His glory, that the Son of God may be glorified through (by) it. 5Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. [They were His dear friends, and He held them in loving esteem.] 6Therefore [even] when He heard that Lazarus was sick, He still stayed two days longer in the same place where He was. 7Then after that interval He said to His disciples, Let us go back again to Judea. Isaiah 14:26-27(NIV) 26 This is the plan determined for the whole world; this is the hand stretched out over all nations. 27 For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back? Job 42:2(NASB) 2"I know that You can do all things, And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted. WOS |

183 | Authority to Ask God for One's Needs | Phil 4:19 | Wild Olive Shoot | 156179
Based on the following, I would disagree. Luke 11: 1And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. 2And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. God’s will be done. Matthew 6: 31Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Seek the Kingdom of God and God knowing what we need will provide. 1 John 5: 14And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. God hears us because we ask according to His will. Acts 20: 34Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. 35I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. Philippians 4: 17Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account. 18But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God. 19But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. But then I came across Mark 11:24. Mark 11: 24Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. But realized their was a qualification for that in Mark 11:22. Mark 11: 22And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. Having faith in God will have us desiring Godly things. Our desire will be for God’s will to be done. WOS |

184 | Are silent protests scriptural? | 1 John 3:17 | Wild Olive Shoot | 155902
I think if you are looking for Scripture to validate a specific individual action, in which there is much controversy because it doesn’t speak directly to the act, in this case, a silent protest involving tape over one’s mouth, then you have to look at the end result of the act and determine whether or not it brings glory to God. If it doesn’t, maybe it is not the appropriate act to engage in. Personally, I don’t see how taping ones mouth with the word life printed on it is glorifying God. We see many protests today engaging an array of topics in which Christians deem as godless and immoral acts. Many are pushed to the limits and end up perpetrating evil for evil such is the case when things go awry and lead to violence. That’s not bringing glory to our Lord. We have a right to peacefully assemble in protest without fear of persecution. We remain civilly obedient as long as we protest within the parameters of the laws put forth by our governing body. But what are the products, the results, of these protests? Usually they are without results or at least without positive results. But in any case, I think they serve somewhat of a purpose. They show the general public and the lawmakers that there are those willing to make a stand. But where we need to make that stand is in the election booth. Until that happens, I think we can protest all we want to the same results. We have one of the greatest freedoms in the world today. We actually have a voice in choosing our leaders. Until we speak up and make use of that voice, all the protesting in the world isn’t going to change a thing. Putting tape over your mouth and silently protesting, in my opinion, isn’t using our collective voice to accomplish anything. But again, in anything being done, I would look to the end result. Ultimately, does the act itself bring glory to God? Just my thoughts. WOS |

185 | people too blind to see good, (where)? | 2 Cor 4:4 | Wild Olive Shoot | 155888
L1952F, Maybe this will help. 2 Corinthians 4:3-5 3And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5For we do not preach ourselves but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants for Jesus' sake. The Gospel has been rejected by many because of their blindness. WOS |

186 | matt. 16:15-18 should they believe us? | Mark 16:18 | Wild Olive Shoot | 155885
blackbox, I think you are referencing Mark 16:15-18, not Matthew. You state: â€i have never seen a demon-possessed person to my knowledge, and have never seen a demon cast out.†Me neither. But our New Testament depicts eyewitness accounts of just such a thing. Mark 1:34-39, 5:12-15 of many. You state: “i have only heard someone speak in tounges once, and i think he was faking it.†I have yet to hear someone speak in tongues but I have heard testimony to it from some I know. But honestly, I think they may have testified falsely or were deceived and only thought they were speaking tongues as a spiritual gift. But I don’t discount tongues altogether and therefore cannot totally discredit their experience. But again, we have eyewitness accounts of just such a thing happening in Scripture. (Acts 2:4) You state: “i have heard of snake-handling ministers, but anyone can learn to handle a snake.†I agree, my brother handles snakes all the time (He’s not afraid to) but not in a religious ceremony. Paul handled a snake safely as well. (Acts 28:5) You state: “if you drink a deadly dose of poison, you will die. prove otherwise. i have never heard of someone drinking lots of poisin and not dying because they believed in God.†Can’t prove otherwise. I believe if someone drinks a deadly dose of poison, they will more than likely die (or else it would not be a deadly dose) and I don’t think it is wise to put God to the test. You state: “i have never seen a healing, and the stories of healings that i have heard could have been faked.†I have witnessed many healings on TV and I agree that they are probably faked. But we see healings in Scripture, God heals people. Matthew 8:5-13, 9:27-31, Mark 2:1-12, Luke 13:10-17, John 9:1-41, just to name a few. You ask: “where are the signs?†God says a wicked and adulteress generation asks for a sign. You ask: “does anyone believe?†Yes, I do believe. Why? Because I have Faith! Hebrews 11:1(NASB) 1Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Faith from where? From God! Romans 10:16-18 (NIV) 16But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our message?" 17Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. 18But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did: "Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world." Dive into the Word. Know just what God has revealed to us. WOS |

187 | LAND FLOWING WITH MILK AND HONEY | Gen 18:8 | Wild Olive Shoot | 155477
I believe our Lord doesn’t have a problem with us consuming milk from animals. If He did, He sure failed to let Abraham know while He had some with him. I’m sure the milk mentioned wasn’t from Sarah. Genesis 18 1And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; 2And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground, 3And said, My LORD, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant: 4Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree: 5And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said. 6And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth. 7And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it. 8And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat. I get the sense that the forum may believe that obi is a member of LDS??? I would have debate that because I'm sure he hasn't read or is unaware of what his beloved Mr. Smith wrote on respect of others in his "Gospel Doctrine". Surely if he is promoting that his church is the true church and that obedience is a requirement for salvation, he would at least abide in it's doctrine and show respect to others which evidence very clears shows, is lacking. Not a very good example obi, in any case. Definitely not a Christian example seeing that you all have argued that you are really Christians so long and so hard. I pray you’ll recognize your error and repent. WOS |

189 | what is wisdom- what is knowledge | 1 Cor 12:8 | Wild Olive Shoot | 155064
Annet, You would think that wisdom and knowledge would be one of the same. I did as well. But they are singled out by Paul as being separate, therefore, different. The definition that may best fit wisdom in this sense is insight or the ability to discern inner qualities and relationships. It could also be good sense or a wise attitude or course of action. Knowledge may best be described fitting in here as simply the fact or condition of apprehending truth or fact. Cognition. That's just my take on it though. The Amplified Bible distinguishes these as well. To one is given in and through the [Holy] Spirit [the power to speak] a message of wisdom, and to another [the power to express] a word of knowledge and understanding according to the same [Holy] Spirit; WOS |

190 | Why Esau not got his blessing back? | Gen 27:35 | Wild Olive Shoot | 154914
iktoose, The simple answer: It was God's will for Jacob to have the blessing. "But this was an extraordinary blessing; and Providence so ordered it that Isaac should bestow it upon Jacob ignorantly and by mistake, that it might appear he was beholden to God for it, and not to Isaac... Isaac, when first made sensible of the imposition that had been practised on him, trembled exceedingly, Gen_27:33. Those that follow the choice of their own affections, rather than the dictates of the divine will, involve themselves in such perplexities as these. But he soon recovers himself, and ratifies the blessing he had given to Jacob: I have blessed him, and he shall be blessed; he might, upon very plausible grounds, have recalled it, but now, at last, he is sensible that he was in an error when he designed it for Esau. Either himself recollecting the divine oracle, or rather having found himself more than ordinarily filled with the Holy Ghost when he gave the blessing to Jacob, he perceived that God did, as it were, say Amen to it." -- Matthew Henry The divine oracle referenced: Genesis 25 22But the children struggled together within her; and she said, "If it is so, why then am I this way?" So she went to inquire of the LORD. 23The LORD said to her, "Two nations are in your womb; And two peoples will be separated from your body; And one people shall be stronger than the other; And the older shall serve the younger." 24When her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. 25Now the first came forth red, all over like a hairy garment; and they named him Esau. 26Afterward his brother came forth with his hand holding on to Esau's heel, so his name was called Jacob; and Isaac was sixty years old when she gave birth to them. 191 | CHOOSING TO REJECT JESUS | Bible general Archive 2 | Wild Olive Shoot | 154749
Who is there among us who does not desire to come to God in heaven? Lives there a man with soul so dead that he has no pantings for another and a better world? Is there a heart so seared that it never longs to be at rest—an eye so blind that it never looks into the hereafter, and a soul so stolid that it never leaps with exulting spirit, in the prospect of a world of joy and happiness? The wild untutored savage of the woods looks to another world, and when some beloved one is buried, he lights a fire upon the grave, to light the spirit through the dreary shades of death, that it may find its way to paradise; and then he sits upon the grave, when the fire is quenched, and days of the spirit that is gone, and hopes for it that it has gone to the kingdom of the blessed, to the land of the hereafter. Never is he content, unless he hopes that the spirit of his beloved one is gone to a better land. And shall it be imagined that any of us who are living in a Christian country are shutting our eyes to the future, and never think of looking beyond the grave there are many here—nay, all of us are longing for another and a better world. O world of woe, what wert thou, if thou wert not a stepping-stone to a world of bliss? O land of graves and shrouds, of pick-axe and of spade, what wert thou if we did not dive through thee into the land of light? O vale of tears, what wert thou, if it were not that thou art the pathway to the mountain of transfiguration? O valley of Baca, filled with tears of sorrow, till the pools thereof are overflowing! what wert thou, if thou didst not lead to the tabernacles of our God, the peaceful sanctuary in which we hope to dwell? But there is no way to heaven, whatever our hopes may be, but through Christ. O spirit of man, there is no way to the gates of pearl but through the bleeding side of Jesus. These are the gates of paradise—these bleeding wounds. If thou wouldst find thy way to God's bright throne, find first thy way to Jesus' shameful cross; if thou wouldst know the way to happiness, tread in that path of misery which Jesus trod. What! attempt another way? Man, art thou mad enough to think that thou canst rend the posts, and bars, and gates of heaven from their perpetual places, and force thy way by thy created strength? The arm of God shall dash thee down to the nethermost pit. – C. H. Spurgeon Christ will be the Finisher of that of which he is the Author or Beginner; if he have prepared the place for us, he will prepare us for it. Christ is the sinner's Way to the Father and to heaven, in his person as God manifest in the flesh, in his atoning sacrifice, and as our Advocate. He is the Truth, as fulfilling all the prophecies of a Saviour; believing which, sinners come by him the Way. He is the Life, by whose life-giving Spirit the dead in sin are quickened. Nor can any man draw nigh God as a Father, who is not quickened by Him as the Life, and taught by Him as the Truth, to come by Him as the Way. – Matthew Henry Romans 1:18-20 (NIV) 18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. Matthew 7:13,14(NASB) 13"Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14"For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it. 193 | The deference | Gal 3:9 | Wild Olive Shoot | 154614
J. Vernon McGee has the following notes referencing Acts 2:1-4. This may help you. v. 1 — Pentecost took place 50 days after the Feast of Firstfruits (see author’s book, Learning Through Leviticus, Vol. 2, on Leviticus 23:15-22). “Fully come” means that this was the fulfillment of the meaning and purpose for which it was given. As the Feast of Passover depicts the death of Christ and the Feast of Firstfruits depicts the resurrection of Christ, the Feast of Pentecost depicts the beginning and origin of the church. (Five minutes before the Day of Pentecost there was no church; five minutes after the Day of Pentecost there was the church.) What Bethlehem was to the birth of Christ, Pentecost and Jerusalem were to the coming of the Holy Spirit. He began to baptize believers, which means He placed them in the body of Christ — identifying them with Christ as His body on earth (see 1 Corinthians 12:12, 13). v. 2 — It was not a wind but there was a sound “like a” wind. “Rushing mighty wind” means that it had the sound of a tornado so that all of Jerusalem evidently heard it. The sound of a tornado has been likened to that of a thousand freight trains. It was an appeal to the ear gate. v. 3 — “As of fire” means that it was not fire but looked like fire, appealing to the eye gate. This was not the baptism of fire, which is judgment yet to come, but the baptism of the Holy Spirit. v. 4 — “All filled with the Holy Spirit” indicates that all the other ministries of the Holy Spirit to believers in this age had already been performed, as they occur in this order: 1. Regenerating (John 3:5); 2. Indwelling (Romans 8:9); 3. Sealing (Ephesians 4:30); 4. Baptizing (Acts 1:5; 1 Corinthians 12:12, 13). The experience of Pentecost came from the filling of the Spirit — not the baptizing of the Spirit. The baptizing ministry of the Holy Spirit placed them in the church, the new body that came into existence here for the first time. See the rest at: http://www.thruthebible.org WOS |

194 | why did God put the devil on earth ? | Eph 1:11 | Wild Olive Shoot | 154459
If God did not allow for evil, would we serve God out of obligation only, since there would be no choice? If it were that evil and suffering were not permitted by God, could we truly understand what is good and how good it is? Even with the evil and suffering that God allows His children to undergo, it is evident that ultimately, God is glorified or is my perspective bent on this? Example: John 9 1As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. 2And His disciples asked Him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?" 3Jesus answered, "It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him. God does permit us to suffer in this manner? Responding to buckman but would appreciate input from BradK and Doc as well. WOS |

195 | I was cheated on - can you help? | Matt 6:14 | Wild Olive Shoot | 154346
Melodie, First and foremost, I do hope the relationship of yours that you mention is one that would be approved by God. Secondly, "Turn all your worries over to Him. He cares about you" (1 Peter 5:7). You’ll see this quote and others at the following site, please check it out and the online resource it recommends: http://www.gotquestions.org/affair-response.html Thirdly, I myself have an inkling of the feelings and the emotions that you must be fumbling through, as I was a victim of an extra-marital affair. Prior to coming to faith in Christ, my wife ventured outside of our marriage and engaged in an adulterous relationship. Some point after I had accepted Christ as my Savior is when she confessed it to me, some seven years after the act. For a long time, I struggled with how I should handle the situation. I knew that unfaithfulness from your spouse was surely an acceptable reason for ending a marriage, but as also I learned, it doesn’t have to. I turned my worries, my fears, my unforgiving heart, my distrust and all I could over to the Lord and asked that He direct me through His word and whatever other means He deemed appropriate. He did. I am proof that “cheating” does not have to end a marriage. My wife and I celebrated our fifteenth wedding anniversary last year and our marriage is stronger than ever and continually growing. We worked hard to mend what was broken between us and believe me; we had help. There are still some areas under repair, but nothing that would seem out of the ordinary as compared to any other relationship I suppose. All that said, please realize, my situation is not the same as yours, yours not the same as mine, so the approaches taken and results rendered may not be the same and may not be appropriate from one to the other. However please know that you are not alone in your feelings. There are many who have and many who will, go through the same experience that you are. I suppose there are many factors that will come into play in determining how one should approach such a hurtful thing and no one person will be able to supply you with all of the right answers. But God can. I would advise you seek guidance from your Pastor or another person from within the church in whom you can trust. Whomever you reach out to, ensure they are godly persons and will do their best to help point you in the right direction in finding a resolution and finding peace. Be careful of whom you open your heart to, especially when dealing with strangers in the essence of those who do not know you or your situation firsthand. There are many loving and caring Christian brothers and sisters that participate in this forum so I’m sure you will see some kind responses and the references to Scripture that you asked for. Also know that in most cases, all kindness aside, you’ll receive another Christian’s true perspective of God’s word and how it may apply to you and your circumstances. May God may bless you and help you find the answers that you seek. WOS |

Paul, the apostle, who before was called Saul, after his great travail and unspeakable labors in promoting the Gospel of Christ, suffered also in this first persecution under Nero. Abdias, declareth that under his execution Nero sent two of his esquires, Ferega and Parthemius, to bring him word of his death. They, coming to Paul instructing the people, desired him to pray for them, that they might believe; who told them that shortly after they should believe and be baptised at His sepulcher. This done, the soldiers came and led him out of the city to the place of execution, where he, after his prayers made, gave his neck to the sword. 198 | King Solomon | 1 Kin 4:29 | Wild Olive Shoot | 152048
Probably the most “well known” depiction of Solomon’s wisdom is shown in 1 Kings 3:16-28. Matthew Henry wrote: “An instance of Solomon's wisdom is given. Notice the difficulty of the case. To find out the true mother, he could not try which the child loved best, and therefore tried which loved the child best: the mother's sincerity will be tried, when the child is in danger. Let parents show their love to their children, especially by taking care of their souls, and snatching them as brands out of the burning. By this and other instances of the wisdom with which God endued him, Solomon had great reputation among his people. This was better to him than weapons of war; for this he was both feared and loved.” However, arguably, it may be that even greater wisdom was shown just prior to this when Solomon prayed and received his answer from God. 1 Kings 3(NIV) 5 At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, "Ask for whatever you want me to give you." 6 Solomon answered, "You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day. 7 "Now, O LORD my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. 8 Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. 9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?" 10 The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. 11 So God said to him, "Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, 12 I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. 13 Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both riches and honor—so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings. 14 And if you walk in my ways and obey my statutes and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life." 1 Kings 4(NIV) 29 God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. 30 Solomon's wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the men of the East, and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt. 31 He was wiser than any other man, including Ethan the Ezrahite—wiser than Heman, Calcol and Darda, the sons of Mahol. And his fame spread to all the surrounding nations. 32 He spoke three thousand proverbs and his songs numbered a thousand and five. 33 He described plant life, from the cedar of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows out of walls. He also taught about animals and birds, reptiles and fish. 34 Men of all nations came to listen to Solomon's wisdom, sent by all the kings of the world, who had heard of his wisdom. “Solomon's wisdom was more his glory than his wealth. He had what is here called largeness of heart, for the heart is often put for the powers of the mind. He had the gift of utterance, as well as wisdom. It is very desirable, that those who have large gifts of any kind, should have large hearts to use them for the good of others. What treasures of wisdom and knowledge are lost! But every sort of knowledge that is needful for salvation is to be found in the holy Scriptures. There came persons from all parts, who were more eager after knowledge than their neighbours, to hear the wisdom of Solomon. Solomon was herein a type of Christ, in whom are hid all treasures of wisdom and knowledge; and hid for us, for he is made of God to us, wisdom. Christ's fame shall spread through all the earth, and men of all nations shall come to him, learn of him, and take upon them his easy yoke, and find rest for their souls.” – Matthew Henry Keep in mind however: Luke 11:31(NIV) “…and now one greater than Solomon is here.” WOS |

Did Judas have the capability or the chance to escape the act or was he predestined to fulfill prophecy? John 17:12 (NASB) 12"While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me; and I guarded them and not one of them perished but the son of perdition, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled. Psalm 41:9 (NASB) 9Even my close friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me. WOS |

Greg Laurie writes: The Key to Answered Prayer "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you." – John 15:7 How often have you felt that your prayers were hitting a glass ceiling—as though the Lord were saying no? Maybe it is because you are praying outside of His will. Maybe it is because you were praying for something that God didn't want you to have. We need to remember the promise Jesus spoke of in John 15, which says, "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you." Another translation puts it this way: "If you maintain a living communion with Me and My words are at home with you, you can ask at once for yourself whatever your heart desires, and it is yours." I really like that translation—especially the part that tells us to ask at once whatever our hearts desire. But let's remember the condition: "If you maintain a living communion with Me and My words are at home with you. . . . " If you are maintaining a living communion with God, and His words are at home with you, then your desires going to change. Your prayers will not necessarily be the same as they were before. As you get in sync with the will of God, you'll see that prayer is not getting God to do what you want Him to do, but that prayer is getting you to do what God wants you to do. You will discover the important truth that prayer is not bending God our way—it is bending us His way. And then, you just may see your prayers being answered in the affirmative.
