NASB | 1 John 1:3 what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 1:3 what we have seen and heard we also proclaim to you, so that you too may have fellowship [as partners] with us. And indeed our fellowship [which is a distinguishing mark of born-again believers] is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. |
Bible Question:
Is the writings of John and 1 John by the same John? My Bible says that 1 John was written AD90 and that 2 generations had passed. Thank you. |
Bible Answer: Hi Phylbee, Both are by the same John, the son of Zebedee, the disciple whom Jesus loved. Written around AD 85-90, a generation or so would have passed since John was an eyewitness to Jesus' ministry. Those to whom this was written were more than likely as we are, not having a first-hand witness of Christ. As we rely on the New Testament witness, they relied on the disciples / Apostles. 1John 1:1-5: 1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; 2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) 3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. 5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. Stand in His grace, WOS |
