201 | from adam to apeman doesn,t make sence | Gen 1:26 | EdB | 241076
The words translated image and likeness more closely describe man being created in the essence of God. Meaning we have a similar thought capability, emotions, feelings and responses. Not that we look like God. Surely you have seen people that look far different than you in physical structure and stance. Also science is quick to point out it's capabilities of dating, but slow to admit they have no way of proving those dates. |

202 | 450 or 850? | 1 Kin 18:19 | EdB | 241074
The answer is there were 850 false prophets as stated in Verse 19. But verse 22 is only talking of the 450 false prophets of Baal.
203 | bartender in the bible? | Joel 2:28 | EdB | 241021
Sadly this is the term used to refer to Joel. It is done mainly because of a convoluted understanding of what Joel is really saying. Somehow men confuse the presence of the Holy Spirit with drunkenness and ignore the warning to remain sober and vigilant. |

206 | ? verse we're not to take up another | Luke 12:13 | EdB | 240954
I'm not sure that is what Luke 12:13,14 is saying. “Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them.” Ephesians 5:11 “The sins of some men are quite evident going before them to judgment; for others, their sins follow after.” 1 Timothy 5:24–25 |

209 | where will those of us who are saved go | 2 Cor 5:8 | EdB | 240907
Paul tells us when we die we go home to be with the Lord. Scripture tells us that during the Millennium Jesus will rule and reign on earth. How it all occurs scripture does not detail and that only leaves speculation which serves no real purpose and is dangerous way to handle God's word. |

210 | what bible version is accurate | Bible general | EdB | 240800
Bible translation is an art as much as it is a skill. No translation can be an exact word for word translation because many times the there isn't an equivalent word in the modern language. So translators must make decisions on which word or phrase best conveys the meaning of the original. NASB, KJV, NKJV, ESV are as close to the original as possible and basically read the same using slightly different Pronouns or sentence structure. All are reliable and can be trusted to convey the original language idea, meanings and precepts. |

211 | How long did God let Satan test Job | Job | EdB | 240765
The Book of Job does no give a time frame so there is not way to say for certain. However a few things should be considered, news traveled much slower in that time so for Job to learn about his children's disasters it is conceivable that it took longer than a day. Also for his friends to hear of Job's distress and come to him makes it appear it could have been longer than a day. As I read the story I read each event where Satan is involved as being a different day and then the narrative of Job and his friends taking place over weeks, months and possibly years. |

212 | what was Job fear? | Job 3:25 | EdB | 240688

The topic of wine or alcohol usage has been discussed at length. Using the search box to the right search on alcohol or wine. Dancing is another question. Ask yourself if way and purpose of you dance is upright and righteous or is it seductive and suggestive. Basically if you were in the presence of a Holy God would you dance like that or not? |

214 | Is cussing and premarital sex wrong or o | Bible general | EdB | 240650
corbinator01 hi and welcome to the forum. May I suggest you sit down and discuss these very real concerns with your pastor. Too many want to treat Christianity as a set of laws of things you can and can not do and truthfully that makes Christianity just another religion. Jesus gave us a model a pattern by which to live and as Paul says imitate me as I imitate Jesus. We are called to holiness and the desire to live righteous before the Lord is part of the salvation process. It is more than adhering to a set of rules it must be a life style. We are to avoid things that weaken our spiritual walk and we are to dwell on things that encourage and lift us up. We are to treat others as we want to be treated. Please sit down with your pastor ( and if you don't have one find one). I don't want to give you a list of do's and don'ts. The easiest way to answer your question is to say you can do this and you can't do that. I'm sure you can find people that will give you that list. But sin is more than just breaking the rule it is rebellion against God. We know what is right but we still want to do what is wrong and many people justify themselves or find someone that agrees with them that is okay. I think this is where you are at. You have questions and are seeking answers from people that will say yeah that is okay. Or build a complex legal justification, you can do this because you are not doing that and you aren't hurting this so it must be okay. Sit down talk to your pastor and let him teach you to seek your answers from God Himself. Read the Bible, don't read it to see what you can and can not do but read it to understand that God gave us the Bible to make our lives so much better when we live His way. |

In the NASB Jesus used repent or a form of the word repent (repentance, repenting) 17 times in the Gospels. Jesus used the actual word Repent 7 times in the gospels. Jesus also used the word repent 7 times in the book of revelation where it is used 12 times. So between the gospels and Revelation the word repent is used 14 times by Jesus. And a form of the word is used 17 by Jesus |

217 | Looking for college bible reading prog. | Josh 8:35 | EdB | 240602
Hi College Student A plan I used the whole time I was in school and I continued it later in life is to read 2 chapters of the Old Testament, Two Chapters of the New, a Proverb and Psalm. In a year I had read through the Old Testament once, the New Testament twice. Through proverbs once a month and Psalms twice. That supplied me the right balance of all the facets the Bible supplies. Each year I make it a point to switch to a new translation. You will be amazed how much will jump out at you when read in a different translation. The biggest task in doing this is to fight to keep it from becoming the goal rather than making what I read as the goal. What I mean is you can get so involved with sticking to a schedule you end up physically reading but not retaining what you are reading. I would also suggest you get into a GOOD Bible study one or two days a week. Knowing that you will be discussing a topic makes us more accountable and prone to stay on track. |

218 | The real price of a Bible? | Bible general | EdB | 240582
I will answer this knowing full well I will be accused of many things. There is another side to the issue and that side has many reasons for doing what they did. One most people that could read through formal training were trained to read in Latin. So having a Latin Bible meant it was going to a greater audience than one written in native tongue. Most Bibles written outside of the Catholic church were written by people that had issue with the Catholic church and their bias often showed up in their Bibles. Manufacturing costs of the Bible were extremely high, therefore the Bible was very precious. However the peasant of the day saw only the paper which they needed for whatever they used paper for. Therefore the Bible had to be protected or it would be stolen for its paper. When the Gutenberg printing press was invented Bibles in various languages were produced and most were different from the Latin Translation. This caused confusion that never existed before and continues even today. People are constantly asking why does this Bible translation say this and that Bible translation doesn't. One last thing to consider. If you give the same translation of the Bible to 100 people and have them read various passages you will probably come up with a 100 different interpretations of the scripture. As evidenced by the number of Protestant denominations we have today based on different interpretations of scripture. Things like baptism with all it questions, infant or adult, in the name of Jesus only or in the name of God, the Son and Holy Spirit. Whether it requires immersion or simple sprinkling and etc. Even Luther later admitted that teaching that each man could decide for himself what the Bible said was a bad idea. He said something to effect that any man that thinks he can saddle a donkey now thinks himself a Biblical scholar and has his own theology. |

219 | Why was Israel was called Jeshurun ? | Bible general | EdB | 240565
Jeshurun , in the Hebrew Bible, is a poetic name for Israel. Derived from root word meaning upright, just, straight. Jeshurun appears four times in the Hebrew Bible three times in Deuteronomy and once in Isaiah. It can mean the people of Israel (Deut. 32:15; 33:26), the Land of Israel (Deut. 33:5;), or the Patriarch Jacob (whom an Angel renamed Israel in Genesis 32:29) (Isa. 44:2). In the Midrash, Rabbi Berekiah in the name of Rabbi Simon interpreted Jeshurun to mean the Patriarch Israel. (Genesis Rabbah 77:1.) The word Jeshurun may have a relationship to the same root as the Hebrew word “upright,” “yesharim.” Numbers appears to use the word “upright,” “yesharim,” as a play on the word “Jeshurun” to refer to the people of Israel. (Num. 23:10.) Similarly, Rabbi Berekiah in the name of Rabbi Judah b. Rabbi Simon interpreted Jeshurun to mean “the noblest and best among you.” (Genesis Rabbah 77:1.)
