161 | God has the right, but why do it? | Deut 29:29 | glory777 | 13876
I may be a little simple, I hope as a child, but there are some things in the Word and in creation I don't understand and I won't be able to understand until I am able to ask the Lord myself. I think Isaiah 55:8-9 pretty well sums it up. Also, God made the universe and all that is in it. He has the right to do anything with it He chooses. We have the right to either choose Him and trust, or not. Other than that, we have no rights. And those who choose to trust have all the rights we need. In His grace Debbie |

162 | Why this mass execution ? | Josh 7:24 | glory777 | 63933
It does seem harsh, but the Lrod can not look on sin and in order to go before the people of Israel, the had to follow Him. The rules were stated and Achan knew them. The people of Israel knew them and had to show the Lord that they wanted to obey Him. Anything left over of Achan's property would have been booty for the rest of Israel, anything of the property that was taken was cursed. Should someone else benefit from someone's sin? Achan's disobedience and subsequent punishment, stopped sin against the Lord from being passed down through his family, and because it was punished by all of the people of Israel, it was affirmation by those who did the execution that they would follow the Lord. Also, by comveting the things of Jericho, he was in essence, identifying himself with the things of Jericho. He doomed himself and all that he had to the same fate as the inhabitants of that city. These are my own thoughts on the matter. Any others? Debbie |

163 | Can we learn anything from Naaman? | 1 Sam 15:22 | glory777 | 127316
Definitly obedience, even if it seems picky. Doing the little things for God, even if they seem unpleasant and very humbling, bring great rewards. It is easy to do great things that get noticed and in the process you are elevated. The Lord can not mend something that is not broken. Naaman needed to be broken to see the work of the Healer. 164 | In what city was David born? | 1 Sam 16:1 | glory777 | 63036
1 Samuel 16 says David was the son of Jesse who lived in Bethlehem. Luke reports that the angels told the shepherds Jesus was born in the city of David - Bethlehem. Debbie |

165 | Evil Spirit from the Lord? | 1 Sam 19:9 | glory777 | 65064
justducky- The Lord had removed His protection from Saul by this point. David had been chosen to replace him. With the absence of God's protection, we are open to all sorts of things. In this case, a demonic spirit was able to influence Saul. Kind of like if I left my grandson by a mud puddle and he decided to ignore what I had said and got full of mud. I took my protecion from him, he reaped the results (although to him, it might have been worth it!) but it could be said that I allowed him to get full of mud. Don't know if this would help in a study of the origin of evil, but ever since Satan turned his back and rebeled against God, evil was in the world and has had a powerful sway. It is only with the Lord's protecion that we have any protection, by His grace, and when it does touch us, it is only by His strength that we have the strength to stand and weather the situation. God bless- debbie |

166 | Does this mean God is the author of sin? | 2 Sam 12:11 | glory777 | 15360
RWC- God is not the author of sin, but He is righteous, and will allow personal freedom. Those who had evil done to them, God allowed, just as God allowed Eve to sin and punishment had to follow. Whenever people sinned, they were given fair warning. Whether they chose to follow, was their own choice. God could have withheld the evil that would take place, and we know who is in charge of evil, but because of their disobedience, what He had foretold would happen if they didn't, happened. At least this is my answer to those who say God is judgemental and just a God of wrath. He will also do anything and allow things to happen to bring His people to Him. God's peace. Debbie |

167 | I'd like know about Jabes | 1 Chronicles | glory777 | 13323
angel-girl- I, too, have the book. The only thing I have against it is that it could just become a ritualized prayer. It is not a good luck saying, or something to say "Hey God, I said it for 30 days, now bless me". I think some people might go off on this tangent. I do agree with Hank, it is an example of how people can rise above what they were born into through prayer and God's blessings. The one thing that stood out to me, and could be compared to today, is that if he was the only one mentioned in that way, what were all the others doing? Christ's peace to you Debbie |

168 | God's people's land? | 2 Chr 7:14 | glory777 | 17537
I've got to stir the pot a little. I see the part that says "called by my Name". I think God knew that we were going to take the name of "Christian". I think that means WE are called by His name. If we, as His people through Christ, do what He says, we will receive the promises He gives us. Debbie |

169 | Why was Nehemiah afraid? | Nehemiah | glory777 | 10843
Nolan- According to my bible's commentary "Nehemiah is afraid to appear sad at an inappropriate time before the king because cupbearers were to hide their emotions for the king's sake. To violate this was punishable by death." So in Chapter 1 he was afraid, but in chapter two I think he was afraid the king would refuse. As a cupbearer, he was privy to a lot of the king's confidential conversation and was very trusted, not someone easily replaced. Debbie |

170 | Are Christians To Be Activists? | Esth 4:14 | glory777 | 15230
First, if there ever was an activist, Jesus was one. If there was wrong, He addressed the issue. He did not just tell others what to do, He did it. He mingled with and healed social outcasts. He taught compassion. But if there was hypocrisy, He confronted it. But everything He did, He did with prayer and in accordance with His Father's will. He was a one-man protester often and the only time He acted out His anger was with the money-changers in the temple, and then He took time before hand to plait the cords to chase them out (I wonder what went through His mind as he was doing the weaving?). We need to be the examples, the salt and light, first. As Nolan stated, we need Godly men in office to have prominence in working to change laws in accordance with God's Word, but we need to do our part and be active in worldly affairs by prayer and fasting. If action needs to be taken, it needs to be done in a Godly way, violence begets violence and does not show the love of Jesus. Love in Christ- Debbie |

171 | Why exactly was God mad at Job friends | Job | glory777 | 39921
RLeaMac- When you read Job, in chapter 1, you see who Job was and how God saw him - upright, fearing God, avoiding evil. And yet, when his so-called friends come around, all they can say is "Job, what did you do wrong? You must have done something. God wouldn't just do this unless you sinned!". With friends like this who needs enemies? Instead of comfort and support, they almost seem to me like they are just trying to get Job to confess that he sinned (maybe out of jealousy or to make themselves look better?). Remember, God looks at the heart and the motives. Not only did He tell them that He is God and needs to give no explaination (isn't the fact that we have Job's story to learn from, reason enough for God to do this) but out of all the bad, everything was restored to Job double, because he loved and feared the Lord. We just need to wade through the rough waters, knowing He is beside us and knew this was going to happen, prepared a way through and, if we allow, will strengthen us in our relationship with Him and use it for His glory. Peace. Debbie |

172 | why was it three days? | Job | glory777 | 43145
Not a very sound answer, biblically, but why did God choose to make the world in 6 days and not in one? He could have, you know. God is God and we are not and there are some things we will never know - until we can ask Him face to face! Blessings debbie |

173 | Question re: Job | Job | glory777 | 72517
boowig- In the Old Testament, as now, everything that happened was ordained or allowed by God. They knew who was in charge. We know that Satan is the source of evil, but God gives choice. God also knows what is happening and what the future is and every second that will happen in our lives. So, in a sense they were correct in stating that trouble came from God, and although Job went through the test, with God's knowledge, God also knew how the test would come out - which is something that Satan still does not realize! Peace- Debbie |

174 | how did God use davids sins of adultery | Psalm | glory777 | 22468
gloria177- This may not be the answer you are looking for, but I think, if nothing else, when he realized his sins, he wrote out his heart that we can identify with a loving God who can forgive anything. Here David is, the apple of God's eye, sinning against one of the 10 commandments, the one who trusted in God since a youth to deliver him, now wavering in his trust in the Lord only. Yet He shows us how God is always faithful and how we should remain faithful and always love and praise Him. Sometimes we cannot see how God works through circumstances immediately, but His work can be seen and circumstances can be used even thousands of years later. Blessings to you- Debbie |

175 | dose it say we can fly other planets | Ps 8:3 | glory777 | 20477
Hi Jessie- I don't know of any place where it says, literally , we can fly to other planets. David was meditating on God through the means of looking at His creation. All of these things were made through the awesome power of God and we know the creation is so much less than the Creator. Adam originally was given dominion over it all until he gave it away through sin. The verses 5 through 8 are referring to Jesus (Heb. 2:6). So by considering (meditating) an all creation, seeing God's power and His goodness to us, we will come to greater love and awe of Him. Blessings- Debbie |

176 | Is the KJV "Supreme"? | Ps 12:6 | glory777 | 11865
I agree, Hank. The first time I read the NIV (the first translation I read after reading King James) it was like opening my eyes to the Bible all over again. But I still like to go back to the King James once in a while. The language is beautiful, especially the Psalms. But for someone who is just beginning to read the Bible - no way. Debbie |

177 | When do we become sinners? | Ps 51:5 | glory777 | 12289
I'm just throwing this in. I too believe that Christ's blood covers the sins of the small children. I do know that when David's son died, he mourned and made the comment about expecting to see him in Heaven. And I do know that, although Jesus rebuked and made a point about other people's sins, He never rebuked the children, but loved to have them by Him. They did not need to be forgiven, baptized, or even to understand who He was. He just wanted them near Him. I don't think He is any different now. Debbie |

178 | Verse Proving Devils Cant Hear Thoughts? | Ps 94:11 | glory777 | 62774
Mommapbs- Good reasoning. Because he has been around since before the creation of man, he is an expert at reading body language. He (Satan) can't be everywhere at once, but he can have those under him assigned to watch over and become expert in reading what we are doing. Could seem like he is reading our thoughts. He sure knows where to turn the screws! God bless- Debbie |

179 | What is this verse meant to be? | Ps 139:7 | glory777 | 16954
Delaro- This is just a fact of God's omnipresence. He is everywhere. You can't go anywhere where He isn't beside you. You can't run away from Him and you can't hide from Him and He is always there when you need Him and want His closeness. What a comfort. Blessings- Debbie |

180 | Are We to Hate His (Our) Enemies? | Ps 139:22 | glory777 | 11002
Steve- I think it has something to do with the time frame. Prior to Jesus, there were laws to live by, and I think that keeping the law was what was important. Now, the emphasis is on the heart. Not only do you not murder, but you do not hate or think about it. The Mosaic law was impossible to keep, the New Law is even more impossible, except for the grace of God and the help of the Holy Spirit. Deb |
