162 | When did the catholic church go wrong? | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 25678
I read where the RCC didn't actually come into being till Constantine converted around 300AD. I posted an article on The Bones of Peter earlier that was showing how Peter never even made it to Rome anyway. Saw a handout today that said infant baptist was decreed in 431, 500 was when mass was instituted and 1000 was when it became mortal sin not to attend. 1231 was inquisition. I don't have handout in front of me so dates may be a few yrs off but close. :) I know-DUCK!!! I'm fixin to get clobbered!!! |

163 | what is baptism | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 25422
A Bible teacher said today that baptism to the new covenant is the same as what circumcision was in the old covenant, a sign. Baptism is a sign that you are a believer of Jesus. I guess I can really get people started if I mention he said Sat. was the sabbath for old covenant and Sun sabbath for new covenant. :) |

I just got a handout the other day. Here's what it said: TRADITIONS AND THE YEAR THEY WERE DECREED AD431 Proclamation that infant baptism regenerates the soul. (Baptismal regeneration) AD500 The Mass instituted as a reenactment of the sacrifice of Jesus. (Jesus dies at every mass) AD1000 Attendance at Mass made mandatory under the penalty of mortal sin. AD1215 Transubstantiation, proclaimed by Pope Innocence III and confession of sins to priests, instituted by Pope Innocence III. The bread and wine actually become the body and blood of Christ. Both Elements are worshipped. AD1229 Bible reading forbidden by RCC AD1231 Inquisition begins. ********* I remember then holding that monstance thing up that had the host in it, it looked like a giant sunburst, in high masses the incenmse would be going, it was a really big deal. Anyway, my opinion, how can children be baptized and it take since they haven't consciously made decision to follow Christ? I know when I was 2 wks old, I doubt I made a conscious decision to follow my mama! So if people were bacically being born Christian, what did they have to accept? I know that the whole time I was in RCC, I never once heard the plan of salvation as it truly is. I was going to hell and didn't know it, just thought I was right w/the church. Remember that Chick tract Somebody goofed-that would have been me. |

We had a guy that could really do O Holy Night too, just a kid. We were in the kid choir, I did love that part, we always sang the midnight mass at Cmas. I loved the Holy Saturday mass when they finally got to it after all the saints litany, etc, when the mass actually started, they'd start ringing the bells and we'd sing the Gloria and I loved that part. I always wanted to be an altar boy so I could ring the bells. :) Course Mama had hopes I'd be a nun and my brother a priest. :) We were the first to defect. :)

A little ritual never hurt anybody. :) Shoot, back then, singing all the high masses in Latin was kinda neat, it just didn't sound the same when they changed to English. Of course after that I started HS and that's when the priest said that about Bible competeing w/mythology, he and I went at in out in the hall. :) I never got into the church any more after that, just went because Mama made me go. I was 19 before I told her I'm not going any more and you can't make me. Poor Mama, she had to give up her dream of me being a nun. :)

168 | Why will we face judgment in heaven? | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 27055
We will be judged on our works for our rewards. Hagee says that's where he burns off the wood and stubble, that there will be people in heaven smelling like smoke. :)

I always wondered about if John took her in, what was Jesus' other brothers doing? Why didn't they take care of their Mama? After all, kids really were social security back then. Then how old was Mary when she died? Let's see, you wrote a note but posted a question, I'm doing the opposite. :) |

Interesting observations, make sense. Of course later James and Jude believed and wrote the gospels too tho, wonder what that family relationship was? Oh well, guess we'll find out when we get to Heaven! I agree anything can become idols including job, football, money, etc. I guess so can food and computer. :) Those are my main problems lately. :) I'll be good for a few days, then go on a sweet binge to make up for it-why can't I be delivered from sweets...:) |

We were discussing this in Bible study past 2 weeks and it was brought out that the bread and wine should be kept separate. He also said not to get into arguments w/those that don't do it correctly. :)
174 | How important is your Church? | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 29030
I have a wonderful church, they offer so much and this is the first church I've ever enjoyed going to, we have a wonderful pastopr who preaches from the Word and there is great opportunities for fellowship, but it's not that important w/my relationship to Jesus. It certainly helps but if it were suddenly taken away, my relationship w/Jesus would still survive. :) A church is important as it allows you to be fed spiritually and gives you fellowship w/like Christians, but a church is not something that must be bowed down and worshipped, it's just a means of getting to the Real Thing, which is Jesus and Jesus can be got to w/o a church period. There are controlling and domineering churches people would be smart to get out of. |

2-I borrowed on Rom's answer, his made good sense. Some of the Christians I know the best that seem to have a wonderful relationship w/Jesus, study the Word and know a lot more than I do don't even have a church so obviously they are making it w/o one. :) I'm glad I have a good one and I enjoy it but I would survive w/o it too. I survived as a Christian over 10 yrs w/o a church to begin with too so...
177 | How important is your Church? | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 29049
I think Brian meant YOUR church, not church in general. I agree church in general is very important and the way you said, even more important, but I think he's asking about the particular church each one of us goes to. Like you mentioned, some churches you'd be better off w/o. :)

Good point! Maybe a person can say I'm a Christian but I'm not a member of any particular church." as in demonination??? Or they can say I'm a member of Christ's church but I'm not affiliated w/any particular church or demonination?

Sometimes it's hard to find a place you are comfortable at. I know when I go out of town and have to look for a church, I can't find one. Maybe now I look at what I have and want the same thing in another. But sometimes it's hard to find a church you feel comfortable. I know when I was visiting my aunt in MD, we found one where the people came to church in their picnic clothes, had a band for praise and worship, one girl had green hair, did mostly "feel good" msg, had no desire to go back. :) Sometimes you wonder if it's supposed to be house of the Lord or a bunch of people playing church and making their own rules as they go along.

This was a Martian Methodist church. :) Funny thing is too, we couldn't hardly find a church w/a bldg and most were meeting in school auditoriums. I thought that was a tad strange. Of course one time I tried to find my aunt a church by writing Kenneth Hagin and asking for a recommendation in that area and he sent some, then she couldn't find them-I guess that turned out OK. :) Then they found another church but there were problems w/them too, something about not becoming a member unless you submit to strict titheing, I don't know. For a bunch of supposed Christians there, it sure is hard to find a church! Maybe that is why there are so many people who don't have a home church. I thank God I got mine but it took awhile finding it. Sometimes when we've moved to new town, some Baptists would invite us to church, but they were always the strict Baptists where smiling was a sin and it seemed no matter what part of country you went to, it was the same sermon, different preacher, on how to be saved. Well, I was already saved, I wanted to know what to do afterwards. That why I like my church. It's So. Bapt but they preach the gospel about everything, not just salvation.
