I just don't see where golly or gee is abusing God. But maybe we could say Beee or Aaaaaa for Budda or Allah but I doubt anyone would get the connection. :)

While I don't like hearing 'Jesus' or 'God' used in a vulgar way, I find it strange to think you're so quick to say that uttering the word 'gee' or 'golly' breaks one of the 10 commandments. The third commandment is not about interjections, it's about keeping one's word/oaths... and therefore not breaking or invalidating an oath that was made in God's name (i.e. using the Lord's name in vain). The Jewish elders taught it wrongly, and that's why Jesus explained in Matthew 5:33-37 the correct teaching in regards to the 3rd commandment. And ultimately, that it's better not to swear (make oaths) by anything, but to simply make your 'yes, yes and your no, no'. I find it somewhat offensive when anyone 'adds' new sins (means of offense) to those God has already listed. There are other def. listed for them words too, maybe that's the ones people are using... |

744 | I need help on concentrating. | Rev 22:18 | Norrie | 13854
Funny you should ask, I just about asked the same question not too long ago. I have no problems listening to tapes and can easily follow a sermon in my Bible but to actually read it is hard for me to do. I would suggest finding a easy translation to read to get into it, stick to the gospels and acts, the best book I like to look at in OT is proverbs, psalms still mostly goes over my head. When I hear a sermon preached on one, I think that makes sense but to read it on my own, I get nada. I've been recommended to read The Good News Bible or TEV (Today's English Version), I wonder if the CBN book The Book is good-probably. I have an older version and I can read that pretty easily. After you conquer the easier ones to read, then maybe you can get a harder version, like KJV, but I wouldn't recommend that for starters. :)
