144 | Baptismal Regeneration | John 6:37 | srbaegon | 222923
Hello Inquisitor, Baptismal regeneration is the doctrine that the act of water baptism has in and of itself a salvific effect. And there are some variations of that. I cannot point you to Scripture that supports it because they do not exist. The best I could do is give Scripture that is incorrectly used to support it. Steve |

145 | believeth and is baptized | Mark 16:16 | srbaegon | 222921
Hi lightedsteps, If I had considered the Mk 16:16 baptism as mere ritual, then I would indeed be trivializing Scripture. My intent is to demonstrate that in the historical accounts, baptism and belief happened together. The decision to believe was immediately borne out with the witness of baptism. There was no anxious bench or 30-minute altar call or Sinner's prayer or inviting Jesus into your heart or other such things evangelicals say today. Steve |

146 | Becoming a christian | John 6:37 | srbaegon | 222911
Hello Inquisitor, What you find is that the NT references to baptism have an absolute and unbreakable link to salvation. But understand that baptism in the NT was a confession of faith like the so-called "Sinner's prayer" used today. Instead of talk, there was action. The correct understanding of what happened was misunderstood in later years of the church, eventually giving rise to the doctrine of baptismal regeneration. Steve |

147 | believeth and is baptized | Mark 16:16 | srbaegon | 222907
Hello lightedsteps, I touched on this in a blog entry earlier this year (http://srbricker.blogspot.com/2010/01/water-water-everywhere.html). What you find is that the NT references to baptism have an absolute and unbreakable link to salvation. But understand that baptism in the NT was the confession of faith like the so-called "Sinner's prayer" used today. Instead of talk, there was action. The correct understanding of what happened was misunderstood in later years of the church, eventually giving rise to the doctrine of baptismal regeneration. Steve |

Hello sugarbear, You are correct that our spirits will have a recognizable form. Besides what you mentioned, there are two other accounts: 1. King Saul recognized Samuel (1 Kings 28) 2. Martyrs in heaven (Revelation 6:9-11) Steve |

149 | what is the glorious gospel of the bless | 1 Corinthians | srbaegon | 222519
Hello BIGREID, and welcome. Your answer is found in 1 Cor 15:3-4: Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures Steve |

152 | Following up... | 1 Cor 12:10 | srbaegon | 222014
Hello printicehill, That is correct. There are indicators of the Holy Spirit's presence in one's life--tongues-speaking being only one (teaching, acts of mercy, giving, etc. depending on how the Spirit enables). A certain indicator of His presence, related to all believers, is the fruit of Spirit (Gal 5:22-23). Steve |

156 | Is God required to love his neighbor ? | Bible general Archive 4 | srbaegon | 220891
Hello ees, Your questions are built on the premise of God having neighbors. Luke 10:25-37 should make clear that a neighbor is someone who is on the same level (for lack of a better term) as another. One human-being showing kindness to another is being a neighbor. God has nobody on the same level. He is above all and infinite--without equal, therefore it is impossible for God to be a neighbor. 157 | Mary and Joseph | Luke 2:5 | srbaegon | 220539
Hi Aileen, Scripture tends not to dwell on the ordinary course of lives. That is why so much attention is given to the miraculous circumstances of Jesus' birth bu not the mundane things concerning their marriage or early family life. Had they not been married, this would have been scandalous and greatly inhibited the Lord's later ministry. As it was the ruling Jews tried to make an issue of the virgin birth in John 8:41 with a partially veiled insult. [Jesus said,] "You are doing the works your father did." They said to him, "We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father—even God." Then in verse 48 that add to it: The Jews answered him, "Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?" They were insinuating that his mother had an affair with a Samaritan or Gentile, and Joseph married her possibly out of pity. Had any of this been true, the whole ministry would have been in question because Jesus was claiming God as his father. Steve |

158 | Luke 5:41 - Demons - Follow-Up ? | Mark 8:27 | srbaegon | 220472
Look at it this way, would you accept the testimony of demons of who someone is? Of course not. Demons destroy and mislead. While their testimony in this case is true, the listeners would be wary. Steve |

159 | Children | Luke 1:25 | srbaegon | 220471
Look at Psalm 127:3-- Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Because children were a blessing, lack of children was disgraceful--like being under a curse or God's judgment. Steve |

160 | John The Baptist | Luke 1:15 | srbaegon | 220469
What is described are elements of the Nazirite vow found in Numbers 6. One who took that vow was specially dedicated to the Lord for the duration of the pledge. In this case, John was to live his entire life under this special pledge. Steve |
