202 | Samuel | 1 Samuel | srbaegon | 216990
Hello Chris, Samuel was from the tribe of either Levi or Judah. That is a guess based on his home area (Ephrath or Bethlehem) and his work (dedicated to the Lord). His brothers are not mentioned at all. The 12 tribes (not 7) are Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Zebulun, Issachar, Dan, Gad, Asher, Naphtali, Joseph, and Benjamin. Steve |

204 | Does God hate people? Psalm 5:5 | Ps 5:5 | srbaegon | 216822
Hello hopalong, We have a problem then. If we state that the evildoers or sinners in Psalm 5 are the same as believers who sin, sometimes grievously on occasion (see Psalm 51), then Scripture must be contradicting itself. More correctly, this needs to be understood in reference to the sin and trespass offerings in Leviticus. There the only sins that could be atoned were those done unintentionally. Psalm 5:5 refers to the one who sins with a "high hand" or arrogantly for whom there is no atoning sacrifice, frankly because he doesn't want one. Steve |

205 | What's the role of an "help meet?" | Gen 2:18 | srbaegon | 216821
Hello humility, Let's start with an answer to the question which can be found in the preceding chapter. Gen 1:26-27 (ESV): Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Notice that when God made man in his image and likeness, he referred to the couple, not Adam alone. It is the couple united together as one flesh that fully demonstrates God's image and likeness. That being so, woman is the only suitable helper (modern translation of "help meet") to complete that picture. God did this by making woman different so that her femininity complements Adams masculinity. This is the general rule for mankind. In your case, you have found what the apostle Paul mentioned in 1 Cor 7, that some can be happy and fulfilled in service for the Lord as unmarried. So be it. Steve |

207 | so what was it | 2 Tim 2:15 | srbaegon | 216474
The controversy was that the newly-believing Gentiles were not required to obey the Law of Moses with circumcision, etc. This was settled at the council of Jerusalem in Acts 15. Steve |

208 | Paul’s missionary work created a controv | 2 Tim 2:15 | srbaegon | 216469
Hello grafted in, I question your assertion that there were no Christians at the time of Cornelius. This makes no sense. Whether called "The Way" in Judea (Acts 9:2) or "Christians" later in Antioch (Acts 11:26), the assigned moniker relates to the same group of people. Steve |

211 | What were the main changes and developme | Acts | srbaegon | 216307
Hello robynanderle, Welcome to SBF. This looks like a study guide question, which we would prefer not to answer unless we know you have done your own homework, but we are not heartless either. Here are things to look for: Structure/Strategy -- Compare Acts 1-2 with Acts 12. What was the location? Why were they there? What individuals were involved? What people groups were represented? Forces/Factors: What does Acts 1:8 say? What was the attitude of the Jews in chapters 4 and 9? Where did the Lord direct in chapter 8? These are clues for your own study. Steve |

219 | As to getting to heaven? | Heb 10:25 | srbaegon | 215966
Hi MeMe 3, Thank you for your patience. I just wanted to understand properly. Our eternal destiny does not depend on which denomination we are affiliated with. It depends on whether we obey the gospel. The only concern is where you stand concerning the crucified and risen Christ. Steve |

220 | As to getting to heaven? | Heb 10:25 | srbaegon | 215960
That depends on your real question. Is it: a. Do we need to go to a specific church building to go to heaven? b. Do we need to be part of a specific denomination to go to heaven? c. Do we need to avoid a certain denomination to go to heaven? Can you elaborate? Steve |
