Hello nadine, Deuteronomy 18:9-14 lists abominable practices among which is fortune-telling. It was practiced by Canaanites and to be avoided. So yes, it was practiced by pagans in one form or another. Steve |

102 | was the sabbath still observed | Acts 13:13 | srbaegon | 227299
Hello Holmes, As Beja pointed out, the passages you give through Acts 18 only point out that Paul went to where the Jews congregated in order to preach Christ and not for Christian worship. Your passages purporting that Christians celebrated the Passover do not have merit. The former is merely a familiar time indicator, while the latter only clarifies that Christ fulfills the type of the Passover lamb. Lastly, "breaking bread" is not a specific indicator for either meals or communion. Paul makes a direct connection between in 1 Cor 11. They regularly happened at the same time. This is partially why commentators see "breaking bread" as a euphemism for the Lord's Supper. Basically, your arguments have no basis beyond conjecture. Steve |

103 | Can man be forgiven on death bed | Bible general Archive 4 | srbaegon | 227209
Hello, The answer is yes to both questions. Just as the thief on the cross gain salvation by believing on the savior, so one near death on a bed may turn to him without fear of rejection. Matthew 20:1-16 is a parable that Jesus taught demonstrating that no matter when someone enter into the service of the Master, he has as full a reward as the one who has been saved since youth. 108 | three days and three nights | Matt 12:40 | srbaegon | 227166
Hello Eden's Fury, I tend to agree that the crucifixion was on Thursday because of the typology link to the Passover Lamb rather than this passage. But since your question pertained to this, I think the Lord was not speaking literally in his reference here to Jonah. Rather it appears the intent was to make a link to Jonah's "resurrection in picture" to his own actual resurrection to come later. Christ used the number of days as a rhetorical device to link the events. And I'm open to correction here. Steve |

110 | does jesus stop asking a harden heart | Rom 1:28 | srbaegon | 227057

111 | member of a Church Gods work | Heb 10:25 | srbaegon | 227043
Hello brabhamcharlene, Lionheart gave a good answer, so I will add just a bit more. God's people have always been in community when serving him. That is by design. The Holy Spirit enables each person with a gift for use within the body of believers for mutual edification and encouragement. That is impossible when doing those things alone. Even NT mission work was accomplished in groups of two or more. Steve |

114 | do u tithe on unemployment checks | 1 Tim 1:8 | srbaegon | 226620
Hello SOS, Two things here: 1) This is a Study Bible Forum, so answers are to be biblically-based. While your response is reasonable in that regard, you should back it up with the scriptural basis. 2) I listened to the podcast. While your intent to teach that we should give from how God has blessed is correct, but I must disagree with you teaching the Law to those who should be living under grace. The tithe was an income tax for Israel to maintain the tabernacle/temple and Levitical priesthood. Paul's teaching to set aside what you are able is quite clear. Steve |

119 | What is the existence of God? | Bible general Archive 4 | srbaegon | 226226
Hello PrinceNatty, We cannot trace an origin for someone who has no beginning. The eternality of God is well-documented in scripture. For instance in Exod 3:13 Moses asks God for the name He uses in order to tell the people of Israel. God replied, "I am who I am" and "I am has sent me to you" demonstrating God's ever-present nature. Also, Psalm 90:2 says that "from everlasting to everlasting, you are God" signifying there are no bounds to God's person or being. This is not an easy concept, but it's what the Bible plainly says. 120 | why did God harden Pharaoh's heart? | Exodus | srbaegon | 225929
Sorry for being slow in response. You were directed to Romans 9; I would also direct you to Romans 1. God makes himself known through both general and special revelation. Whichever way someone responds to that revelation will be in accordance with God's knowledge and plan. God responds to the person according to His nature and in line with His ultimate ends. So for Romans 1, God gives over (i.e. hardens) the one who stubbornly refuses the revelation to follow after his sin to its ultimate end. God did the same with Pharaoh. Steve |
