Greetings Fran: I did not overlook your post! I count it as much wisdom. Thank you! I hope that you accept my posting it in it's full entirety, because reading it has moved me in a powerful way. 2 Peter 1:3-11 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. Searcher, Again I can only apologize for the confusion and chaos that the particular post served up. My point would have been better made, using the 2nd Chapter of Acts "all of it." But I did not write the article (which is no excuse since I posted an excerpt from it), my true objective was to simply highlight within it why I worshipped on sunday and not saturday. (Although we do have a intercessory prayer service on Saturdays). Our congregation does have what we call weekend services though, since many have to work on sundays or have other obligations. Thank you so Much Noble! I had no idea that the Muslims had a particular day set aside, to worship. I have friends in an area of Los Angeles called Leimert Park. (I love visiting this place) It is a small Black community rich in Black culture and history. The majority of the residents are Muslims of one group or another. Some Call themselves Black Moslims and others Muslims I have been in the midst of say a game of chess or a conversation and one will get up and say, "I have to go to prayer at the temple see you later." Yet they go at differing times. SO I never thought they had a particular time. I always ignorantly believed they had their daily prayers and worship, without any set aside special day. Although some probably do go on Fridays religiously I was not aware since they go to their temple at various times. You learn something new everyday :) Thanks again, -Kathy |

Kim, I praise God for YOU! His grace is so amazing! My Pastor once broke down translation of the verse of your testimony: He put it this way to bolster our confidence that Jesus is was Always there for us. He said, "No, Never, NOT EVER, I will Never leave you, nor will I ever forsake you! Keeping to my theme (smile) this is the song your testimony brings to my heart: Amazing Grace will always be my song of praise, For it was Grace that brought my liberty. Dear Ed, I added it here because it was last response bearing my name. I gave my reasons, and if you check the notes, people are still posting to this thread. Yet since your post to this note... someone else has added a note to it. I am sure God will let the right purpose go forth. I asked in the most sincere way possible and explained in the best of my ability... I have no idea what more you require from me in response to your post. As I said it seems so derisive, when a my name is appearing in all manner of post as the topic. I did humbly admited that it was probably more of a self serving request, and therefore my Brother, the choice is yours if you choose to continue to post to the thread that bears my name. Hi Ed, Whatever indeed:) Each post that you mention, bears my name. I apologize if my intent is confusing... but if you just scroll through the notes, there are more than just a few post under the topic: "Kathy, Is Lifting His name Biblical?" As you are aware, recent post have moved away from that subject and yet they all have the same topic, bearing my name. As I said, it was a vain attempt to remove my name from post regarding subjects that are far from what I believe and yet they are indirectly connected to me. It's just me... and you know what, I did not write it to start yet another "thang". It seems that even if I crawl across broken glass, and approach in all humility, I am rarely understood here, in word or deed. You once said that I was too humble, but I just refuse to believe there is such a thing for a human to be. If anything mankind lacks to much humility, and I should seek to be even more humble. There is no such thing as being too humble:) Not in view of the humility of God. and I am not that humble. Alas, once again I apologize for my apparent offensiveness. I meant no insult to you or anyone. Aniset, Indy, and Searcher, I hope you take no offense. And if you do, let me once again apologize. Hiatus time!!! Time to get on my knees and let God knock the dents out of my armor. It is time to go to God's Feast and eat the Bread of life to feed my tired spirit with the Word that gives Life. Here is the Coffman Commentary, I use it quite often because he oftentimes than not substantiate my own beliefs: 1 Corinthians 11:16 But if any man seemeth to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God. If any man seemeth to be contentious ... This was Paul's way of saying, "Look, we do not intend to argue this question endlessly; the whole matter is already solved by the type of behavior which marks God's churches everywhere." This is grounds for holding that in this whole passage it is decorous conduct with which Paul is concerned, since it touched on the all-important question of the proper submission of women to their husbands, and was also related to the prevailing opinion of the people in that community. This whole passage affirms the necessity for Christians to have a decent respect for the opinions of mankind, and not to flaunt social customs of any kind merely for the sake of being different. As McGarvey said, "One who follows Christ will find himself conspicuously different from the world, without practicing any tricks of singularity." QUESTIONS ON THE VERSES ABOVE If Paul meant "hair," why did he use the word "covered"? The answer is that in the vocabulary of the Old Testament "to uncover the head" was to shave off the hair. When Nadab and Abihu sinned (Leviticus 10:1), God commanded Aaron not to "uncover his head" in mourning at their death; and this meant not to cut off his hair (the customary sign of mourning). Job shaved his head when he learned his children were dead (Job 1:20). Many examples of this usage could be cited; but as Echols noted: "Wherever the expression "uncover the head" occurs in the Hebrew Old Testament, it means "remove the hair.'" The culture of that era as well as the environment at Corinth suggests that some of the Corinthian women (in the church) were violating decent rules of conduct, not by discarding the mantle (peribolaion) which there is no evidence that any of them were wearing, but by adopting the cropped hair of Aphrodite's priestesses. It is even likely that some of them had been converted and had neglected to change their hair styles. Furthermore, it must be evident to all who think about it that when Paul said in 1 Cor. 11:4 that a man praying or prophesying with his head "covered" dishonored his head, he simply COULD NOT have referred to any man's wrapping himself up in the type of mantle that was called a veil in those days. That type of veil (or mantle), as far as history reveals, was never worn by men in any circumstance. Therefore the fault Paul sought to correct in 1 Cor. 11:4 was not that of men veiling themselves like women, but that of sporting indecently long hair. Is there any word in this whole passage that unmistakably means the type of veil under consideration? Yes, the word (peribolaion) in 1 Cor. 11:15 refers to that type of covering; and this is the only word in the whole passage that does so; but this is also the verse where Paul said the Lord had given woman her hair "instead of" any such garment! What is Paul's subject in these verses? Whatever it was, it could not have been the type of veil or mantle that obscures the person of women, that having been mentioned only once. On the other hand HAIR is mentioned three times, "shaved" or "shorn" is mentioned four times; and, in this light, it appears certain that Paul's subject here was HAIR. One could not speak of a mantle's being shorn or shaved. How could this passage have been so long misunderstood? Echols' explanation is as good as any. He said: A clear understanding has been obscured by ambiguous English translations, as well as by established custom. There can be little doubt that the custom itself derived largely from Roman Catholic practice during the Middle ages. |

I don't know what words to choose to express to you the encouragement that, I tried to articulate in the previous responses, in this thread. I am not insulted or offended, I am not angry. Never that! Though my previous post was rather lengthy I would sum it up with the following suggestion for how people can deal with hurt from other Christians. Insults can be very hurtful when they come from within the ranks the Body of believers. Yet it is likely that most of us would not abandon of familys or jobs due to such an insult. When my immediate family members insult me, I don't think to myself, "I am packing my bags, my husband and children are mean." I may be hurting but because my heart and mind are on the bigger picture, I choose to stay and work on the circumstance. (no matter who is wrong) If a patron comes into my salon and they hate their hairstyle, and insult our efforts, I do not close the business. My heart and mind are on the bigger picture. (LIVELIHOOD -LOL) Not only my livelihood but also that of the employees. I work to resolve the complaint to the patron's satisfaction. (no matter who is wrong) Therefore I guess my initial point was that nothing is resolved when we as Christians have hurt one another. Waiting for an apology, bolting from the Church or expelling another true Believer from the assembly will not resolve the conflict. (There is a bigger picture) If Jesus had waited around for an apology from those who hurled verbal insults at Him, or those who criticized His doctrine... we would still be waiting for Him to go to calvary and there would be no ransom paid for our transgressions. But God saw fit to take all that which Jesus endured and He brought it together for the good of mankind, even the whole world. I suggest keeping our eye on Him to the best of our ability in Him. We are more than conquerors, In Christ. Romans 8 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. It's me again Noble, The best way to deal with insults and wrongs committed against us is through God's perfect Love working in us. (The key to these verses is that they are describing God, Who is in fact Love.) "Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy; it is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily. It is not conceited--arrogant and inflated with pride; it is not rude (unmannerly), and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God's love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking ; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it--pays no attention to a suffered wrong. It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness , but rejoices when right and truth prevail. Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best about every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances and it endures everything (without weakening). One of the first things that I said in my response was that I was very skeptical of the latest stigmata phemoenon. And my post tend to explain why. And I will give you the same answer that I gave CDBJ. I was responding to the original poster who asked about Stigmata. I gave him a brief history on it and I explained why I was skeptical of it. (I ANSWERED HIS QUESTION) Then he responded back to me and told me his experiences and I asked him the same questions that you are asking me... (I asked him what is the spiritual value of his experience to himself and or others.) Why you both are asking me the same question is over my head... since in my posts to him I clearly made clear that I feel that the value of the phenomenon is only for those who want to "APPEAR" pious etc.... If we are not supposed to answer these questions (except that we agree with the poster let me know here and now, because I am tiring of this) Come out and say what you mean to me. If you do not like my answer then you answer the poster. If there is any part of my answer that is incorrect you point it out. CDBJ asked me, "So what dose all of this have to do with anything? Is it supposed to be more effective then the Word of God or what? What, biblically speaking, have these thing done for the individuals who experienced them?" I asked the poster I can not dispute or confirm what has happened in your life. Although in all earnest I will admit to you that I am skeptical of stigmata. There are many who trust these incidents and others who are detractors of them. May I ask you please for the sake of my sincere curiosity, 1. What do you equate this phenomena to in your life? 2. Why do you think that God is relating to you in this way? 3. Do you know of any Spiritual benefit of this phenomena to yourself or others? And I will never shame the Body by fighting before new converts who are young in the faith or before non-believers, who may lurk about. I will leave the fighting for the wise people.
