1381 | Was Lucille Ball a christian? | Revelation | Mommapbs | 39095
I posted this to Ssprin too! http://entertainment.crosswalk.com has an interview with Kathleen Brady, the author of Lucille: The Life Lucille Ball. In the interview she was questioned about the faith of Lucy. Kathleen replied:"She was not raised in a church-going family and she agreed to have the kids brought up in Desi's Catholic faith. DeDe, Lucy's mom who was not Catholic, took the kids to church. After the divorce, when Lucy was in Wildcat in New York City, she attended Norman Vincent Peale's church. He told me she would try to disguise herself in a big hat and veil. One day after church he told her to take the hat off because everyone knew who she was. She liked a practical religion -- if an approach like positive thinking worked, she followed it." One's Christianity is not dependent upon any denomination or religious practice. Unless you can find someone who knew the state of Lucy's heart, you cannot presume anything about her faith in Jesus or lack of it. Hope this helps. Mommapbs |

1382 | Is our dress a reflection of our heart? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 39089
Greetings CDBJ! I agree in principle with your observations, and we have always taught our boys to remove their hats when they go indoors ANYWHERE - yet here are some other thoughts! I recall the days when it was unacceptable for a woman to go into church with her head uncovered! I wonder how many women will be sporting "easter bonnets" this year?!! Jewish men wear skullcaps (out of respect?)in their houses of worship. And lastly, I recall 8 years ago when our teenage son was in treatment for cancer, he lost his hair and always wore a cap. He did not take it off in church. We moved to the balcony where he would be less conspicuous. (Not wanting to offend anyone from the "old school" of course!) For you it's hats, for me it's women who wear pants to church! I guess old patterns are hard to break, and it is tempting to connect the head to the heart! Guess we all have to cut one another some slack(s)! Blessings to you! Mommapbs |

1385 | sunday the day of sun worship | Mark 2:28 | Mommapbs | 39020
Greetings! You asked: How can we rejoice and worship on a day when the Lord of the Sabbath was in the tomb? If Jesus wasn't in the grave, we would have no evidence of His defeat of it. I'm glad to celebrate this! His triumph gives me hope! It seems to me that you are entering into a sea of legalism and performance based Christianity with your determination of the "proper day of worship." Please remember that the sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath.(Mark 2:27) The sabbath is a God-given opportunity for us to worship Him! A time for us to be set apart from earthly cares and just focus upon God, praising and thanking Him, which brings both rest and peace to our souls and our lives. Why argue over WHEN to worship - every day is the right day! Think of how your life might be different if you allowed everyday to have a little of the "sabbath rest" in it! We worship when we remember His death and we worship when we rejoice in His triumph over the grave! "But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless elemental things, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again? You observe days and months and seasons and years." Gal. 4:9-10 Hoping these thoughts will encourage your worship today! Blessing, Mommapbs |

1386 | Who is "Lilith" in Isaiah 34:13-15? | Is 34:13 | Mommapbs | 38552
Greetings Hank! I thought "Lilith" was a female rock concert! Re Cains' Wife: Conjecture only. . . could Cain's wife be a "daughter of God" who snagged Cain, a son of man, just like the "son's of God" did in Genesis 6:4? We know from the archeological record that human-like creatures inhabited the earth. Why wouldn't Cain be a likely candidate to accept an "inferior wife" when he was willing to bring an inferior sacrifice? Just wondering about these things. . . .Mommapbs |

1387 | John MacArthur an antinomian?!? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 38455
Greeting again EdB! You wrote: "I question some of the things you imply." in reference to my observation: How easy it is to see the speck in another's eye while ignoring the plank in our own! Please do not misunderstand me - the ointment I apply to myself is a salve to be recognized and shared. You are free to use it as needed. I cannnot assess YOUR need however, nor was that my intent of the observation. I think the Holy Spirit is perfectly capable of performing HIS work without MY interference! Hope this clears the air! Far be it for me to judge, lest I be judged! In Him who is our bond of Peace and Love! Mommopbs |

1388 | John MacArthur an antinomian?!? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 38443
Greetings EdB! I was glad to read your post this AM as well as the one from Reformer Joe. I did read the posts and while I agree that we should never misrepresent another individual, in the middle of the night I wondered why no one rose to Charles Stanley's defense? Should we judge his theology from snippets of quotes too? Since I really don't know either theologian, I am not in a position to speculate on what prompted any of these remarks. I prefer to go to God and ask Him to reveal to me what I need to know. This is what makes His Word so precious - it is personal. How easy it is to see the speck in another's eye while ignoring the plank in our own! Thank you for your apology as well as your declared intent to bear witness to the truth. I look forward to reading your posts on the forum as well as those of others. We are ALL needed here! Blessings, Mommapbs |

1389 | John MacArthur an antinomian?!? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 38441
Greetings Joe! I was glad to see your post as well as EdB's this AM. Problem with cyberspace is that it's not as instantaneous as we would like. Its interesting that you would presume that mercy is one of my spiritual gifts. It is not. I am perhaps the most unmerciful person I know! Yet last night when I hopped on line to see what was going on in the Forum, I was so distressed by what I had read that I felt compelled to bring a reminder of God's mercy to everyone's attention. I completly concur that we need to attend to correction and "church discipline." We also need to esteem one another and the treasure that God has placed within each believer. When one falls, we must be on guard to restore and not retailiate. I am not suggesting that this took place, but some damage was done and it needed to be repaired. I thank you for your efforts to encourage our brother in CHrist not to leave the forum and I look forward to reading more of what God has to say to you! Blesssings, Mommapbs
1390 | John MacArthur an antinomian?!? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 38400
Greetings EdB! I think EVERYONE is "of use" as we are all members of the same body. It might be wise to remember that when one member suffers, we all do! I have sent the following to Reformer Joe and I would like to share these thoughts with you too. I am writing this in love and with the hope for the Peace of Jesus to prevail. How jealously the reputation of John MacArthur has been guarded! I wonder what he would think of this thread. But more importantly, how do you think OUR Lord feels when His children cross words with one another? We are participating on the Forum to share God's WORDS - it is a privilege, yet I don't think anyone should ever be made to feel that they have to withdraw! "Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you." Ephesians 4:31-32 I believe it is important for us to recognize and respect our differences and yet love at all times, even when it becomes very difficult. Not only did Jesus tell us to love one another - but the world will know that we are His because we do! You have had have an apology, I hope that you will extend the same grace that has been extended to you. With love in Jesus for YOU! Mommapbs |

1392 | John MacArthur an antinomian?!? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 38396
Greetings and the PEACE of OUR Lord be unto you zach†! It has saddened me to read the recent exchanges on this Forum. Leaving the Forum would be much easier, and at times when I feel a bit "beaten up," I consider that option too. But I don't think it is the God honoring choice. Not only did Jesus tell us to love one another - but the world will know that we are His because we do! You have apologized, please put this behind you and remain with the Forum. With love in Jesus for YOU! Mommapbs |

1394 | Easter questions | Ex 12:2 | Mommapbs | 37430
Greetings Cyclist! After reading the posts on the thread, I hope you will read the following just for informational purposes. We have a Christmas tree and we color easter eggs with our kids too but I believe that traditions commonly associated with our "religious observances" must be exposed for what they really are. I believe that children (at an appropriate age) should be taught to keep them separate from the true meaning of our celebrations! Sadly, the world has succumbed to Santa and the East Bunny . . . The easter egg is a traditional pagan symbol of fertility. 1.Some ancients believed that the earth was hatched from a universal egg. 2.Pagan societies used brightly colored or decorated eggs as charms to insure fertility and sexual favor each spring. 3.Roman women carried eggs to fortell the sex of their unborns children. 4.French brides stepped upon eggs prior to crossing the threshold of their new homes to insure fertility. 5. The early Polish Christian church taught that the Virgin Mary gave eggs to the soldiers at the cross to beg them to be merciful to her son Jesus. According to this tradition, as her tears dropped onto the eggs, they became mottled with many colors. 6.The rolling of the easter egg is to symbolize the rolling away of the stone from the entrance of Christ's tomb. (Sidebar:Why do men always seek human involvement- or glory? - in a Divine activity? 7.Hard boiled eggs are a result of a 4th century ban on consuming eggs during lent. Consequently, people boiled the eggs to preserve them until after the lenten season. The easter bunny is another tradition that has its origins in pagan worship. The ancient Egyptians and Persians believed there was once a great bird that desired to be a rabbit. The goddess Oester (I believe the german word for easter may be rooted here too)turned the bird into a rabbit. The bird-rabbit was still able to lay eggs; they were many colors - and each spring the bird-rabbit would present them to the benevolent goddess. Easter baskets have their roots in the tradition of bringing baskets of food to the church prior to easter diner. Easter lilies were believed to have sprung up in the Garden of Gethsemane where drops of the sweat-blood of Jesus fell to the ground during His final hours before He was betrayed. Hot cross buns are a decendant of the practice of pagan peoples many years before the crucifixion of Christ. Small cakes were inscribed with a cross and left in the sun for baking. This cross was a pagan fertility symbol and the day ended with a time of debauchery and human sacrifices. God's Word reminds us to follow Jesus, not the traditions of men! "See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ." Col 2:8 Symbols are nice reminders, but they can never replace a daily persoanl relationship with the Lord. Let's keep our eyes fixed upon Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith! Happy Resurrection Day! Mommapbs PS "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and KNOWLEDGE of the Holy on is understanding!" Proverbs 9:10 See also Job 36:7-12 |

1395 | Easter questions | Ex 12:2 | Mommapbs | 37367
Thanks Emmaus! Too bad we "englishmen" won't address the problems in our language - spin always spin, using words to make them say what we want them to say, not focusing upon what they really mean. Even the word easter rooted in spring is still not what Christians recognize the day to mean. "Resurrection Sunday" is much more significant and leaves no wiggle room for bunnies, baskets and eggs does it?! Bottom line is this, did Christ rise? People have no trouble believing Jesus died, but His resurrection? The Lord makes it very clear that salvation is contingent upon what we believe. In Romans 10:9 we must BELIEVE that God raised Him from the dead! What a fabulous truth! How sad that we English speaking people continue to conceal it with the poor word choice of easter. Instead of saying "Happy Easter," how about this: "Happy Resurrection Sunday!" Now that IS something to celebrate and be happy about! Blessings, Mommapbs |

1396 | what is the state of the dead in Christ? | 1 Cor 5:8 | Mommapbs | 36636
Greetings Love Fountain! I'm sorry for the confusion, I didn't mean to suggest that we were "arguing!" I enjoy the dialog on the forum and the opportunity to consider the wonderful things of God. I have indeed been thinking about what really happened in the Garden at the time of the original sin. In Gen 2:17 "for when you eat of it (the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil) you will surely die." What kind of death was this? Although I believe that spiritual death, separation from God, took place immediately, I also believe that there was a physical implication. Adam and Eve were created as immortal beings and we know they ate from the Tree of Life. Yet after they ate from the Tree of the knowledge God said, "he must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the Tree of Life and eat, and live forever." (Gen 3:22) So I'm just wondering if the fruit from the Tree of life provided the component necessary for immortality to created man. Scientists know that certain enzymes are necessary for cellular reproduction, but there is nothing to stop the process of aging cells - yet could an unknown substance eliminate cell death? Please note: the following is CONJECTURE and personal SPECULATION! When man ate from the Tree of Knowledge, the result was to bring about an end to eternal cellular growth as the components of this "fruit" destroyed the created order of perfection in man's physical body, causing a mutation at the genetic level that would be passed to all offspring. We know that some individuals are born without specific enzymes that are necessary to sustain life. Armed with this knowledge, we can provide for these missing molecular agents in a supplemental fashion. So, it is also conceivable that eating from the Tree of Life would somehow restore this process of eternal cellular replication. However, this verse also suggests that eating from this Tree would not remove the mutation (which we call sin)that had already occurred. As scientific discovery advances and we unlock the secrets of the gene and DNA, I believe man will uncover more Truth of God than he ever imagined! God's Word gives us a hint in Lev. 17:11 "the life is in the blood." The blood is the mechanism of delivery of essential nutrients to all cells. Since the blood of Christ is the means by which we are cleansed from sin and made righteous in God's sight, it seems to me that God will indeed "make it known" in His way and in His timing perhaps even more Truths contained in this verse! So back to your question. I believe physical death occurs when life sustaining (regenerative ability) cellular activity ceases. Based on the same definition, we are all born spiritually dead for we have no ability to re-generate something that died in the Garden. PLEASE, let's not get into the arena of "brain death" OK? In each individual circumstance, I believe that GOd will give His wisdom to those who ask for His direction and guidance. Truly, I cannot postulate how I would respond . . . I really try to avoid the sea of "what if!" Blessings! Mommapbs |

1397 | what is the state of the dead in Christ? | 1 Cor 5:8 | Mommapbs | 36313
Greetings Steve: "The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection, they entered the holy city and appeared to many." Mt 27:52-53. The sequence is AFTER the resurrection so Christ indeed would be the first to have eternal life. But how can we account for these individuals? What do you think happened to them? There is a reference in Ephesians 4:8 which says the when Jesus "ascended on high, He led captives in His train and gave gifts to men." Could these individuals be those "captives?" In a post earlier in February on Mt 27:52 by Robert Nicholson he makes this observation as well. I guess some things we won't know until we get to Heaven! That's OK with me! Mommapbs
1398 | what is the state of the dead in Christ? | 1 Cor 5:8 | Mommapbs | 36301
Thanks Tim! I don't think in any of my previous posts I suggested that either Enoch or Elijah were "resurrected" or possessed eternal life prior to Jesus. I just made the observation that they MAY be the two witnesses of Rev 11 because they had not experienced physical death as we know it. Therefore, they would not contradict Hebrews 9:27 which states "it is appointed unto men to die once . . ." This is all just interesting speculation not an assumption of fact - sorry for any confusion. Mommapbs
1399 | what is the state of the dead in Christ? | 1 Cor 5:8 | Mommapbs | 36294
Thanks - interesting commentary, but it still does not address the fact that Enoch and Elijah did not experience a physical death as Moses did. I wonder what the devil and Michael were arguing about over the body of Moses, maybe this is an indication to us that we should not either! Just a thought! Won't Heaven be great? Just think, all these questions will be answered, but frankly, I don't think they will even matter then! - keep looking up! Mommapbs
1400 | what is the state of the dead in Christ? | 1 Cor 5:8 | Mommapbs | 36287
Greetings Lovefountain. Yes, I know what many believe, I was just suggesting that Enoch may be the other witness because of what Jesus said in John 3:13, that no one has ascended into Heaven except the Son of Man. This would lead me to believe that perhaps the two individuals that did not taste physical death are the two witnesses described in Rev 11. We are told in Hebrews 9:27 - "It is appointed unto man to die once!" In Rev 11, we read that these two will be killed. Since Moses already died according to Scripture - Dt 34:5 - how can he die a second time? Do you follow my reasoning here? These were just some thoughts, nothing to agree or disagree about!Blessings, Mommapbs |
