Hi Doc, Wow, I am amazed! You are speaking in tongues of my language (Cantonese)! I wonder if you are a Hong Kong citizen or your wife is. Did you live in Hong Kong before? OK, back to the subject: no, there is absolutely no restriction from the HK government on importing books or literature. The only limitation is the market demand here. Few weeks ago, I was trying to find the book "90 minutes in heaven" (also by John Piper? if I remember correctly) in a local book store - The Page One (so call sizable here, funny that they don't have a website as per my previous enquiry) which mainly sells English books. However, there wasn't a single copy exist. Therefore, I had to ask my friend in Canada to get me one when she comes back to HK next month. Nice talking to you, brother. God bless you and your family. Dear Carol, Welcome to the forum and thanks for your input. After reading your post and the verses quoted, they have supported my belief (pretty much in line with Doc) that there is no retirement for pastors. Love in Christ Azure |

124 | Can pastors retire? | Bible general Archive 3 | azurelaw | 177703
Dear CDBJ, Thanks for your response. I think we are in accord with the view that true believers won't retire from serving God in all aspects of life, be he a layman or a pastor. Changing fields? I hardly say agree or not. I believe that God assigns different herds of sheep to different shepherds, examples I can think of are : the Israelite in Egypt to Moses, gentiles to Paul. Perhaps the retirment system employed in most churches today confuse us. The last thing I would say, we should give great honour and respect (as Paul has taught) to all submissive pastors (whether retired or not). God bless. Azure |

127 | Abiding in Christ | Bible general Archive 3 | azurelaw | 183492
Dear Brother Jeff, A man's abiding is "a consistently improving situation that is ever drawing closer to the state" 2 weeks ago, our elder (in his sermon) used an interesting example to demonstrate a Christian must not stay still but to continue to grow - he said you cannot be an egg forever, either you hatch to become a chick and grow, or you turn out to be a bad egg. Do you know the smell of a bad egg? Horrible. Shalom Azure |

129 | Can the devil tune in to our thoughts? | Bible general Archive 3 | azurelaw | 188615
Dear InGodITrust, May I borrow the below poem written by brother CDBJ. You are in my prayers, brother. Shalom Azure A Voice From Beyond (By CDBJ) I've passed into a better place of which there is no pain. So loved one keep your grieving short, your loss has been my gain. My state is far much better than the one that you behold. It's the hope that I've been looking for in the days when I’d grow old Though grief may oft consume you with thoughts about our past, Life must go, so please be strong, this grieving will not last. This place is awe inspiring, with much array to view. I've been so overwhelmed with it, I've hardly thought of you. My first day on location I was anything but bored, My first known recollection, I was looking at the Lord. The colors are fantastic, beyond your wildest dreams. Ensuing from His throne on high, an emerald rainbow streams. Enough about my bliss for now, the problem's you're forlorn, And how to rectify the day, from which our love was torn. The secret to life’s happiness is not all that absurd. It’s found with-in the Mighty Script of God’s Eternal Word. So keep yourself in hope I ask, make the Bible your main quest, And the Lord will surely comfort you, and put your heart at rest. Make sure my love of which you trust, in abundance of profession. It must be Jesus, not the church, to support your strong confession. Finally love with much ado, use not your loss for scorning. Weeping may endure the night, but joy cometh in the morning. |

Dear John, I agree with you. I've just got the time to read the latest posts on the forum and found out the identity of InGodITrust. I am pretty shocked as well. However, I am happy to see that you have forgiven him. He has been experiencing all these trials and it needs a lot of courage to ask for forgiveness. You are a tough and loving brother. Paul was very tough as well, wasn't he? Shalom Azure |

Dear Searcher, Sorry, the citation should be 1 Cor 9:24 not Chapter 10. Sometimes, the layout of chapters in my Chinese bible confused my sight :-) Thanks for your reply and the suggested source. Shalom Azure |

Dear Jess, Our brother Jeff has given you a fine answer. When I read your question, the first thing pops onto my mind is the book of Ecclesiastes. Maybe you would like to spend some time on it. I am particularly fond of the last 2 verses Eccl 12:13 The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. v. 14 For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil. Ps 119:125 I am Your servant; give me understanding, That I may know Your testimonies. Ps 119:129 Your testimonies are wonderful; Therefore my soul observes them. Ps 119:130 The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple. |

139 | On Prayer | Bible general Archive 3 | azurelaw | 190629
Dear Jeff, Thanks for sharing. The sweetest moment I found on earth is when God reveals himself through His Words to me and I am so much moved by the Holy Spirit that I cannot continue my reading of the bible without first falling on my knees to pray. Quite often that I cannot find any words for my prayer at that moment but just : thank you Lord, have mercy on me and be gracious to me. I realized that when we are alone with God, we are speechless. ------- Yes, it is possible to do that. On the "Questions/Notes on verse" box, you just need to type the verse (eg. Gen 1:1), then click "go". You can write a note with the space provided. Shalom Azure |
