1 | When study what to read first | Bible general | azurelaw | 242104
Dear EdB, Just my 2 cents of another perspective on new Christians reading John. I agree that with the western background mind, the book of John could be difficult to understand. However, as a Chinese, I find that John 1:1 might not be that difficult to understand for knowing God. When it speaks about the "Word", the concept is so much in line with the original "Tao" (in ancient China). I am not saying the religion "Tao (meaning in Chinese : way, word)" is identical to Christian faith. While one of the posts stating that Mark was for Roman, Luke was for Greek; the Christian faith is from eastern world; now John contains element that is so harmonious with one of the major Chinese beliefs and helping Chinese to be familiar with the God mentioned in the Bible. What can I say, but hallelujah! Shalom Azure |

4 | is it okay to have sex before preaching | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 194928
Dear pberardi, First of all, welcome to the forum. In your previous post, you said : However it is a personal belief that a pastor should be single... Could you please show me the scripture that requires a pastor single as I cannot find such relevant verse. What I have found is 1 Cor 7:1-7 where Paul addressed his personal preference to be single. Be a person married or single, it is God's GIFT (verse 7). Another verse found in 1 Cor 7:25 Now concerning virgins I have no command of the Lord, but I give an opinion as one who by the mercy of the Lord is trustworthy. Paul stated that that (from v25-40) was not a command of the Lord. But he shared his opinion with the believers. Back to my understanding concerning Adam and Eve, I agree with you that God does not want Adam to be alone (Gen 2:18), but we should not forget the following verses especially v21-24. v24 ...be joined to his wife; and they shall BECOME ONE FLESH. (my emphasis in caps) I believe a married believer can still devote himself/herself to God if he/she follows what Paul has taught in Eph 5:22-33 and of course His Word. Should I have misunderstood anything, I am open to correction. Shalom Azure |

7 | Ecclesiastes, Matthew, NOW WHAT? | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 195819
Dear Sister Val, I join with Brother John for a belate welcome. In fact, I have been reading your posts since you join and I am so grateful to see your love to our Lord expressed in your written words. I really love what you stated : My good friends might tell me what the letter says, but I have to see it firsthand for myself. Keep breaking bread and share with us. We love you, dear sister. Shalom Azure Psalm 133 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brothers to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, Coming down upon the beard, Even Aaron's beard, It is like the dew of Hermon Coming down upon the mountains of Zion; For there the LORD commanded the blessing--life forever. |

Dear One River, Welcome to the forum. Great answer! I am a bit confused. Are you in association with user Shikaratane (i.e. husband or wife?). If so, it is good to see you register under separate accounts to avoid confusion. By the way, it would be also appreciated that if you could fill in more information about yourself on your user profile. God's blessings to you. Shalom Azure |

14 | Seeking God | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 198726
Dear Nicko, I agree with you that "everything else is dependent upon loving God and ONE of the ways we show this is by loving others (Matt 25:35-40)" But you cannot demean other ways such as devotions, prayer, baptism, tithing...(examples as you cited) being less important. Without devotions, prayer, etc. (I am glad that you did not skip studying the Bible) how can we abide in the True Vine? Not abiding in the True Vine, how can we do anything - needless to say loving others. (John 15:1-8) Jesus gives the commandments in sequence as you know: FIRST - to love our God with all our HEARTS, MINDS, STRENGTHS. Shalom Azure |

Dear Dr Steeno, I have been following the discussions along the thread. I see that some posters have requested you to provide scriptural support to your posts. However, it seems that you are not willing to do so. Even though what you said is biblical, relevant scripture quotation is necessary as per the terms of use of the forum. By the way, please also understand that this is a public forum, you are not only responding to the questioner but also exposing your words to the silent readers. In view of such, do you think providing scriptural quotes necessary for better edification for the readers? Since you address yourself with "Dr.", I assume you are holding a doctorate. When you write up an academic piece of work, do you support your argument with relevant quotation? We also see Jesus often quotes from the Old Testament. (Mat 4:4-11, 4:21, 4:27, 4:33, 4:38...) So, I don't see the reason why you ignore the request and I hope you are not disrespectful to others with such behaviour. Shalom Azure |

Thank you, Doc, for your generosity. It is indeed a good quote and Sam Storm really answers the prideful question "if God loves Himself pre-eminently, how can He love me at all?" asked by fallible human (though it is understable). We always FORGET that we never have anything that make us loveable, but sin. And yet, "...God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Rom 5:8) Shalom Azure |

20 | searching for a specific verse | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 200280
Dear Cheri, Do you know that this verse has been composed with a beautiful melody for a choir chorus? I love it so much...just right now my memory does not serve me good enough to remember who the composer is. I need to check the score for the name later when I get to church. I wonder under the wave of those contemporary pop style worship music serving the pulpits today, how many young christians are aware of those beautiful classical mixed voice chorus lingering in the hall of the chapel that brings your soul so admirably and hautily to focus on our Almighty God. Shalom Azure |
