121 | which apostle in the bible payed rent | 2 Timothy | Tamara Brewington | 203793
Paul supposedly rented a room at Rome during an imprisonment there. But you wil not find that in your Bible because it is not there. Theologians have deduced that this was so perhaps based on Eusubius who wrote about Paul and commentators are pretty much in agreement that this is a fact. You won't find this in Josephus either, both Eusubius and Josephus were historians at the time. Which is how we know how the aposltes died.
122 | Embrace the truth and rejoice! | 2 Tim 2:15 | Tamara Brewington | 204470
I am not finding this verse you are looking for. I am sure you are paraphrasing it and some of the words might not be the same as in the Bible. I want you to try something new. I want you to try using the same tool I was just tyring to find your verse in. You have to be willing to do some foot work here yourself. None of us mind answering your questions, just keep asking them. Go to www.blueletterbible.com on the web and type in a phrase, or just one word and search diligently through all the verses in the Bible until you find what you are looking for. This takes time, but you will find it I can tell you you will. It is the same thing as trying to find it in the Concordance, it is the same amount of foot work, only quicker. God Bless, Tamara |

123 | clarify ground rules, q incl midway | 2 Tim 2:15 | Tamara Brewington | 205176
Dear chessshores, You may use up to 5,000 characters per post, not 5,000 words, that is letters and punctuation, not words. Many users on the forum prefer brevity for the questions in order to leave visible page space for other unanswered and answered questions to appear to the naked eye on each of those pages. The guidelines for the forum say a number of things, and on of them is to avoid brevity as it leads to confusion. If you will notice, when you go to write a question, there is a message there telling you to include all the details of your question before posting it. There are going to be instances where the question will warrant an answer that include exegesis of the passage, or passages in question and my require that, in order for you to give an exegetical reply, that you cut and paste part of your answer into a next second reply, regardless of how carefully you write it or how clear it may be. Charismatic teachings largely have their basis in a theology that is not properly supported by a thorough exegesis of all of the passages on pneumatic infusion of believers in Acts. The subject of the gifts of tongues and prophecy have been discussed several times on the forum. Each time evidence was submitted by various members showing that the way in which these gifts are now being used and taught about is not necessarily supported by a thorough exegesis of Acts. The guidelines here require that we all sign up agreeing to adhere to a literal intrepretation of the Bible. When some scriptures are taken out of context and used to support a supposed Christian practice like the practices of some Charismatic churches, it will be addressed exegetically, theologically, doctrinally, and if it is found to be without support a continued pursuance of defending it will result in action on the part of the Lockman Foundation to make it come to screaching halt as a breaking of the guidelines has repeatedly occured. Simply typing in the words I am a Charismatic would not result in being ousted from the forum, but repeated refutation of sound doctrine based on sound exegesis would. Perhaps the words I am a Charismatic, was the revealing cap on a long chain of notes going back and forth on a subject and sound exhortation was not heeded over and over again. The Charismatics have some sound practices like extended and active praise and worship. They may have some other practices like falling out by falling backward; being slain in the spirit, which have absolutely no scriptual basis. They may have some other practices like the speaking of tongues being the only and first evidence that a person has received the holy spirit that, with a thorough exegesis of Acts, it will be seen that that practice happened to usher in 4 groups of folks into the kingdom of God and as well, that not all time in Acts did they speak in tongues as evidence that they had received the Holy Spirit, knocking that theory down. As well there are other passages which speak about receiving the Holy Spirit that say each does not have the same gift, also knocking that theory down. There is the Charismatic concept that one needs to be baptized by the Holy Spirt after accepting Christ, where scripture teaches that we receive the Holy Spirt at the moment of belief. Again there were 4 groups of folks who were being ushered into the body of Christ; the Jews, the Samaritans, the Gentiles and those who had the repentance and baptism of John. These groups all without exception received the Holy Spirit only when the Apostles and only the Apostles either laid hands on them, or preached to them. After these 4 groups were ushered into the kingdom of God every one that believed got the Holy Spirit right away, as it states in Ephesians 1:13. There is the practice of prophesying for which there is some scriptural support for still being around, but which has been grossly abused and is largely seen as either a dead gift, or a misused gift. Following Christ's golden rules will not ensure particaption here although it is proper. Following the many guide lines in here will. If you are really a more mature Christian than your friends who got banned from the forum, just follow the guide lines, practice grace and you should be just fine. Welcome to the forum! God's day to you, Tamara |

124 | churches here predominantly Charismatic | 2 Tim 2:15 | Tamara Brewington | 205194
Dear chessshores, I understand your explanation of what kind os churches are prevelant in your country... Joyce Meyers is closely aligned with the Word of Faith teachers. She teaches that you take the word of God and release the promises of God into your life by the level of your faith in God and that you receive rhemas from God to direct you what God wants you to do. She does teach that you must line up your life to reflect the word of God or you will not be able to release the promises of God into your life. However, God makes promises based off His own Holy and sovereign will and it is not necessary for men to take the action of having strong enough faith before God will choose to act, which is what Joyce Meyer teaches. One of the worst teachings in Word of Faith movements is that God will not act until you do, that is not scripturally supportable at all. You have to twist the scriptures to get that. Joyce Meyer teaches folks to get control over their circumstances by lining their lives up to the word of God, no problem, but then she says God will not act on your behalf until you do, her exact words. Benny Hin has been debunked by many who left his minstry as a complete and utter fraud. I have seen Benny Him literally push people down to the ground because they did not get slain in the spirit when he went to touch their foreheads. There are true reports that those who thought they were healed by Benny Him have gone to the doctor and been told they are not at all healed. Benny Hin has a whole lot of money and many holdings and possessions gotten from the middle class and poor from all over the world who think that this false prophet is a sainted man offering healing and freedom from demons and he rarely offers salvation to the lost. The Amplified Bible is not a literal translation of the Bible and adds many words to the Greek and Hebrew that are not there changing the fundamental meaning of the texts. The Charismatic movement has indeed made and spread a great deal of money through out the world, their traditions and attempts to use charismatic gifts do not make them Bible based, the proper intrepretation of the Bible does and a proper application of it does. Just because a church is very large and practices being slain in the spirit with great care does not make that practice Biblical at all, it just makes it tradition. If the good Bishop meant that all Christians have gifts from the Holy Spirit and are therefore Charismatic he was correct, if he meant that all Christians are Charismatic because they all could speak in tongues if they but would he was wrong. The Charismatic movement has gone world wide, that does not mean it lines up with what the Bible teaches about gifts and the use of gifts. My web browser is on the fritz, so I am unable to give you a proper web site, sorry for that I pray someone else will attend to this. Charismatics traditionally through out the world have honored others in both helping the poor and in working in concert with those of other views and denominations to partner with them in reaching people. Evangelicals do not always partner to evangelize or help the poor or church plant with those whose views and beliefs they do not agree with because that is being unequally yoked in minsitry which the Bible teaches against. God's day to you, Tamara |

127 | A fanatic, a zealot or a prophet? | Titus 1:1 | Tamara Brewington | 204819
Dear Shel Dee, Val is absolutely right. Is what she is saying lining up with the Bible? Did what she say before that seemed fanatical line up with the Bible? Another question, was what she said before a prophecy to edify the church, or an individual, or was it about herself? These are important questions to be answering, based on the answer she may or may not have pure motives. Another question, did whatever she said before come true in some way? Was what she said about something from the Bible to be followed or was it about something that was supposed to be hapening soon? The reaon I am asking all these questions is because one of the ministers on our pulpit does hear correctly form God. But what she receieves in always about the body of Christ in general or about the church specifically, or rarely about a person. What is important about that is that what she says always comes true and does not fail, and this has been going on with her, for her to edify for 30 years of being a believe. In other words she has been tested and not been found to be wanting. Deuteronomy gives the tests; 13:1-15, 18:20-22, and I Corinthians gives the qualifications for order; I Corinthians 14:3,24-26,29-33 Be careful there are many who believe they are hearing from God who have not proven to be true. She should be warned that if she prophesies falsely and it does not come to pass, then she has made herself a false prophet and spoken by the power of Satan. Such a sin is forgivable by Jesus as it is not a sin leading to death, not the unforgiveable sin, but causes her to lose her rewards in heaven and for her works burnt up. Warn her with this; I Corinthians 3:12 Now if any man builds upon a foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw. Each man's work will be evident; for the day will show it, because it is to be revealed with fire, itself will test the quality of each man's work. And warn her with Deuteronomy 18:20-22. 128 | Panteles in Heb.7:25 means???? | Heb 7:25 | Tamara Brewington | 203921
I assume that NASV is the New American Standard Version and that by that you meant the New American Standard Bible. The word in the Greek is indeed uttermost, the translators simply chose to use the words forever or complete to make it be in the standard English usage of today. However, the word forever conotes to the uttermost because forever is as far as the reality of salvation can reach. Complete is used because the reality of salvation to the uttermost is complete in scope. What more uttermost could there be than that salvation is forever or complete? However, the first meanings of the words in Greek are full ended and entire. So then salvation is full ended and entire as it is to the uttermost. Imagine if salvation were limited by space, time or human work? Then it would not be full ended, entire and to the uttermost. How far does salvation reach, till tomorrow, till we sin too much or of a nature to gross? No the nature of salvation is that it is complete and forever, to the uttermost. The meaning is not appreciably changed by the use of any of the three words in question. God Bless, Tamara

130 | Abraham inheriting the whole world? | Heb 11:8 | Tamara Brewington | 205545
Dear Woldem, Welcome to the forum! Check out Hebrews 11:8-10 - we have here that Abraham is said to have been sent out to receive an inheritance of land, a place, not the whole world... He went out and he was an alien looking for a city which has foundations in God, talking about faith here as well as the promised land. But he never found it see - verse 13 says these all died in faith without having received the promises. See Genesis 12:1-3, here God promises that He will make Abram a great nation and in you all the earth will be blessed. But this is not about Abraham inheriting the earth at all, it is about his seed being blessed in the future and being a great nation. Here is who will inherit the earth. The righteous - Psalm 25:13. The meek or the gentle - Mathew 5:5. The blessed by God - Psalm 37:22. The humble - Psalm 37:11. The picture we get is that the saved inherit the earth - check this out you have to be made righteous by Jesus in order for God to say you are righteous, you are not truly humble till you bow down answer to God, you don't become truly gentle or meek until you get sanctified which takes getting saved first. So the saved inherit the earth. God's Day, Tamara |

131 | Rabbis not paid? | James 3:1 | Tamara Brewington | 205558
Dear Thomas, I have been taught that it is factual, but I don't know which books to point you to to prove that. Apparently Rabbis as a matter of course did not take any pay for being Rabbis, it was seen as being dishonorable to do so, one was working for God not for pay. According to what I have been taught, which is by a pastor whose profession is as an historian, all Rabbis had a trade on the side that they learned from their fathers. In fact all men learned the trade of their fathers anyhow. Paul was studying under Gamiliel in order to enter the Rabbinical in the sect of the Pharisees. Paul was a tent maker by trade a leather worker, which we know from Acts 18, and we know that for the entire time Paul was in ministry he worked for a living, unlike the other apostles; see I Corinthians 9. At that time in history a philosopher would be supported by a trade or a patron, or begging or by charging a fee for services, which Sophists did, but this was considered offensive for a philosopher or a teacher of religion to charge a fee. This was true of Greek culture and Jewish culture and of Roman culture. Paul supported himself always in all places regardless of donations by tent making, a carry over from his Rabbinic training days. See I Thessalonians where Paul sets the tone about how he views doing the work of God. See I Corinthians 11:7-12 for Paul's refusal to take money for his services for Christ. Paul is the only apostle who worked for a living and he was the only apostle who had been a former Rabbi too, where before he did not take any pay because he loved God and would not bring dishonor to His name, how much more now was he determined not to be a philosopher or teacher of Christ for pay in order to bring glory to God and not besmirch the name of Christ. 135 | Are we judged when we come to Jesus now? | 1 John 1:9 | Tamara Brewington | 203755
I John 2:1,2 says if we sin we have an advocate. The only sin that cannot be forgiven is to say that the works of Jesus done by the Holy Spirit were done by the spirit of the devil in Mark 3. God forgives the Prodigal son, don't worry, just believe and come on back, everyone will be glad in heaven and on earth in church that you came on back.
136 | Confess to the person you have wronged? | 1 John 2:2 | Tamara Brewington | 204501
I found something close; James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray to one another so that you may be healed. I don't find anyting like the verse you are trying to find. I looked up every place the word confess appears and it is not in there. I don't believe the Bible teaches what you are asking though. The Bible teaches us to love one another, and to love our enemies. It teaches us to ask Jesus for forgiveness of sins, not other people we have wronged. Although that might be the right thing to do out of love it is not required. Here consider this; I John 2:1c if anyone sins we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. There is a verse in the Gospels that says; Mathew 5:23,24 therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering. This verse says to go be reconciled to your brother. But it doesn't say specifically to go confess your sins to your brother, maybe to acknowledge them. Hope this helped. God Bless, Tamara |

Verse 2: the Anti-Christ was full of the power of the nations and Satan gave him his power and his seat of authority in the world. Verse 3: The Anti-Christ or one of the heads of a part of his kingdom (theologians are in disagreement as to which)is literaly slain and then literaly is raised from the dead in a mockery of the rising of Jesus from the dead. And because of this evil miracle by the power of Satan, rising from the dead of Anti-Christ or his head of state will cause the whole earth to be amazed and they will follow him (verse 4 then says they will worship him, which is why most theologians say it will be the Anti-Christ who will rise from the dead and not a memeber of his courts).

139 | how do you understand rev | Revelation | Tamara Brewington | 203771
The word Revelation is Apocalypse in Greek, which means to unveil. John received this unveiling from an angel who received it from Jesus Christ. Revelation is broken into 7 parts; The Vision chapter 1, The Message To The Churchs chapters 2,3, A Revelation of Heavenly Vision chapters 4,5, God's Judgment on the Earth chapters 6-19, The Second Coming of Christ chapter 19, The 1,000 Year Millenial Kingdom chapter 29, The New Heaven and New Earth chapters 21-22. The characteristics of apolaypitic literature is that it includes synbolic discriptive language. Verse 1:19 gives us a picture of how the book is to be viewed, past; chapter 1-John writes about having been spoken to about the announcement of the revelation, present chapters 2,3 John writes to literal churchs a message for each in his present time, future chapters 4-21 John writes about events to happen in future. Next comes a book, actually a scroll, that no one can open except Jesus and in it are contained 7 seals of God's judgment on unbelievers sybolized as 7 trumpets that will be blown for real by angels at the beginning of each judgment to come; war, famine, death, martyrs, terror, the bottomless pit, army from the east, and the angels gathered to begin blowing the 7 trumpets of judgment, this is chapters 5-11. There is the woman who represents the bride of God the church and the baby is Jesus, there is the red dragon who is Satan, and there is the war in heaven between Arch-angel Michael and Satan the dragon and Satan is thrown down to earth for the second time forever(the first was in Daniel where he is described as the highest Cherubim)in chapter 12. There is the dragon, Satan on the sand of the sea (the multitudes of people on the earth) and the beast, the Anti-Christ comes up out of the sea (all the nations) and the Anti-Christ has all the characteristics of the nations (he was like a leopard and so on), and Satan gives the Anti-Christ his throne of power on earth and authority to rule the earth, then the Anti-Christ is killed and actully rises from the dead as a miracle to mock the power of Christ and the whole world is amazed and begins to worship the Ant-Christ, then the next beast arises on earth and this is the False Prophet who will testify of the Anti-Christ as God and he has all the authority and power of the first beast, this is chapter 13. There are the 144,000 real sealed human servants of God who are going to proclaim the gospel to the unbelivers. Then there are the 7 bowls of wrath; the giving of the mark to those who worship the Anti-Christ, the destruction of the sea by blood, the destruction of the rivers and springs by blood, the scorching of men on the erath by the sun, darkness over everything in the earthly kingdom of the Anti-Christ, the drying up of the river Euphrates to make way for the nations to come through for war against God, the greatest earhquake to ever come upon the earth, in chapter 16. Then comes the destruction of a real place on earth symbolically named Babylon where the Anti-Christ rules the earth from in chapters 18,19. Then comes the angels worshiping in heaven about the victory Jesus and God against the Anti-Christ and the whole world and there is the war that Christ will wage by Himself with all the raputured glorified saints from heaven looking on against the Anti-Christ, the False Prophet and the unbeleivers and the Anti-Christ and the False Prophet get thrown in the eternal lake of fire, in chapter 19. Satan gets bound for real and thrown in a pit for a thousand years for real and Christ sets up His 1,000 year Millenial Kingdom until He lets Satan out after 1,000 years, then Satan deceives the unsaved children of those who got saved during the Great Tribulation and wages war against Jesus and the saints (this includes regular people who got saved during the 1,000 years and the glorified raptured saint who come back to earth to rule with Jesus), Satan loses the battle and is thrown along with his followers into the eternal lake of fire and whoever's name is not found in the one book of life, but whose name is found in the many books of the damned will be thrown into the lake of fire at the Great White Throne Judgment, in chapter 21. Then God destroys the old earth and universe and remakes everything using what is left of what He destroys and there is a new heaven and a new earth, then a real city, New Jerusalem comes down to earth to replace the one that He destroyed and Jesus glory is so bright that it is the light of that city, consider the USA is 3,500 miles across, this new city is 1,500 miles across both width and breadth inside the city is the tree of life from the garden of Eden and the river of eternal life, then there is a parting message from John.
140 | Satan in prison for 1,000 years? | Revelation | Tamara Brewington | 203772
This is a future event that has not happened yet, it happens after Christ comes back to rule the earth for a 1,000 years Millenial Kingdom after defeating the Anti-Christ and the False Prophet in Revelation 19-21. Nothing in Revelation has happened yet except chapters 2,3, contrary to popular belief, all we know is that we are seeing wars and rumors of wars, like Jesus said we would. However, the apostles thought they were near the end too for the same reason people do now. You can't even believe that Satan has been locked up yet, just look around... He is still on the job...
