NASB | 1 John 2:2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 2:2 And He [that same Jesus] is the propitiation for our sins [the atoning sacrifice that holds back the wrath of God that would otherwise be directed at us because of our sinful nature--our worldliness, our lifestyle]; and not for ours alone, but also for [the sins of all believers throughout] the whole world. |
Bible Question: I would like an interpretation to the verse (and I'm not sure where in the Gospels it is???) that if you have wronged another person, then you must go to that person and confess your sins. |
Bible Answer: I found something close; James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray to one another so that you may be healed. I don't find anyting like the verse you are trying to find. I looked up every place the word confess appears and it is not in there. I don't believe the Bible teaches what you are asking though. The Bible teaches us to love one another, and to love our enemies. It teaches us to ask Jesus for forgiveness of sins, not other people we have wronged. Although that might be the right thing to do out of love it is not required. Here consider this; I John 2:1c if anyone sins we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. There is a verse in the Gospels that says; Mathew 5:23,24 therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering. This verse says to go be reconciled to your brother. But it doesn't say specifically to go confess your sins to your brother, maybe to acknowledge them. Hope this helped. God Bless, Tamara |
