61 | Can we enter the Kingdom now? | Matt 6:33 | Tamara Brewington | 204123
Trying to retrace your steps here... Jesus was preaching all over the place that the kingdom of God is at hand. What He meant by that is that He was the ruler of the kingdom of God and that the kingdom was present with them in their here and now. A little history is in order here. Point one, people were getting saved while Jesus was walking around by repenting of their sins to God and believing that Jesus was God(Jews understood that Son of Man meant the Messiah and that the Son of God meant equality with God the Father as Jesus being also God)and they were entering directly into the kingdom of God. Point two, Jesus told Pilate that His kingdom was not on earth, that means it was a spiritual kingdom. Point three, therefore whoever gets saved is entering a spiritual kindgom. Point four, where Jesus says seek first His kingdom and all these things will be added unto you He was referring back to Mathew 6:24 where He talks about serving not serving two masters and wants believers to be devoted to God and unbelievers to come to God. Point five, seek first to be saved and to enter into Jesus spiritual kingdom is the point of Mathew 6:33 and if you do that all your needs that would have come from serving wealth will be added to you because you forsook wealth and chose God. Point five, this is one way to walk in faith, there are so many ways in which we are to walk in faith it would be too long to go into here. Point six, obeying God can't get you into the kingdom because that would be following the law. But if you meant seeking salvation (the kingdom), then yes that could be called one of several types of how to walk in faith. God bless, Tamara
62 | Can you say no to God too many times? | Matt 7:21 | Tamara Brewington | 205747
Dear MickysMom, Good question, and welcome to the Forum! Let's start with Lord, Lord; Mathew 7:21 Jesus says many will come to Him saying Lord Lord having done the works of God and performing miracles and Jesus will tell them He never knew them. So some will appear to be Christians due to good works right? Let's look at Romans 3:27 - Paul says where is boasting about keeping the law, essentialy, and then is boasting of works? Then he says no but by a law of faith... You ever heard of once saved always saved? You ever heard of by faith alone by grace alone? These concepts come from reading Romans, the whole book. And these things are true, our salvation is not conditional on whether or not we are able to keep from sinning but on the grace of God who saved us. You raise a most interesting and troublesome point however because there are several schools of thought on how what you are talking about works, the processes that is, and it most of it comes from scripture. So far I have talked about Paul and what he taught on the concept of what is called that one's salvation cannot be canceled out by a next sin, or a series of sin. You have to factor in though that Paul does talk about the process of sanctification whereby you willl visibly get better at not sinning and get closer and closer to being like Christ in your actions. According to Jesus it is possible to do good things like miracles and not make it in, but according to Paul there is not a possiblity of making it in if you are not saved by faith alone, by grace alone, and your works, as he agrees with Jesus is not the measure of your savedness for lack of a better term. Now, let's turn to John's writtings - he sets forth a different concept about being saved and what that consists of than Paul, he does not contradict Paul ever, but sets forth a kind of standard of what a confessing Christians should look like and act like. Let's go to I, II, and III John. There are a number of things to see here. First let's start with I John 2; 1)Do not love the world if any loves the world the Father is not in him. I John 3; 2)Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness and no one who abides in Him sins and no one born of God practices sins. 3)Whoever does not help his brother who is in need does not love God. 4)Do not believe every spirit only those who confess Jesus are of God. II John; 5)Whoever does not acknowledge Jesus as coming in the flesh is not of God. III John; 6)The one who does evil has not seen God. Partial Quote, John MacArthur Study Bible; Fruit Proofs of Authentic Faith Love for God Repentance From sin Genuine Humility Devotion to God's Glory Continual Prayer Selfless Love Separation from the World Obedient Living Hunger for God's Word Transformation of Life The good tree brings forth good fruit and the bad tree brings forth bad fruit, by their fruits you shall know them. There is the possiblity that a person can be saved and be fallen for a protracted period of time, or go back and forth, but at some point before they die if they are really saved, God will convict them and they will turn around, repent and walk holy in Christ Jesus and not live that way anymore. 63 | Who are they ? | Matt 7:23 | Tamara Brewington | 205954
Dear lookin, I have heard two theories on this; I will paraphrase John MacAruthur first - he says that these people have a false profession of faith and that they merely claim to have done works in Jesus name and that the good tree bears good fruit and the bad tree bears bad fruit so what ever they were claiming they did in Jesus name was a false claim to greatness, and that they were making claims to salvation based on these false works, and so Jesus says, depart I never knew you. Now here is the other theory I have heard - Did not Jesus send out the seventy in Luke and to heal the sick, and to cast out deomns, and to proclaim the kingdom of God is at hand in His name. Then in John 6 we find that a large number of disciples desert Jesus because they could not recieve the teaching of eating Jesus flesh and drinking His blood, but some of these same disciples were also of the seventy. And then there is Judas who was sent out to heal, to cast out demons and to prolaim the kingdom along with the twelve in Jesus name, but who was a traitor to Jesus and the faith. Between these two we get those who may have very well gone and done great miraculous wonders in the name of Jesus, but who left off the faith having never believed in Jesus but having used His holy name to perform works which made them believe they were saved, but Jesus says to them, depart from Me, I never knew you. Now, doing the will of the Father would include but not be limited to doing miraculous wonders, and it is possible for an evil doer to perform miracles by the power of the devil according to Revelation and Daniel. And it may, I say may, be possible to make a false profession of Christ and run around spouting His name while actually doing miracles by the power of the devil. Just a last thought there, that was a real head cruncher there that one... you got there Lookin, your brain cognates sometimes there... God's Day To You, Tamara |

64 | WHAT WAS THE SUBJECT OF JESUS PARABLE | Matt 13:1 | Tamara Brewington | 205915
Dear d, Jesus says in Mathew 13:11,13 To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while the seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. There are two parts to the audience, those who were His disciples and the those in the crowds who were not believers. It was appropriate to the disciples to reveal to them how the mystery of the kingdom works - Jesus used this parable about seeds not to illustrate seeds and farming, but to illustrate that when the word of God fell in the way of life something came and destroyed it. The subject of this parable is about what happens to the word of God in accomplishing salvation. Jesus reveals this in verse 15 where it says that if they would hear and see He would heal them, He means save them. The explanation of the parable is in verse 18-23; When one hears the word of God and does not understand it Satan comes and takes it away, the man who hears the word and receives it with joy but without a firm root falls away when persecution comes, the man who hears the word and worries about the world and wealth and has the word choked in him and is unfruitful, but the man who hears the word and understands it brings forth other believers some a hundred fold, some sixty, some thirty. Then Jesus says who has ears, let them hear because only to the disciples was it granted to understand the parables, but to others it has not been granted. It was appropriate to the unbelievers in the crowd because in verse 15 it says that the heart of the people has become dull and they scarcely hear and have closed their eyes and that He is speaking in parables, veiled mysteries lest they understand and be saved "heal them". With the parables sometimes Jesus explains it sometimes He doesn't, you always have to read further to find out if He did. Parables are all about the mysteries of the what the kingdom of heaven is like according to Jesus. They are stories about Biblical truths about Jesus and us, the word of God and us, and our relationship to Him and to God and His relationship to God, and the nature of the kingdom itself - what characterizes it the preciousness of it. Hope this helps, Tamara |

65 | Researching a questionable verse | Matt 17:21 | Tamara Brewington | 203753
The translators were working with older manuscripts and later manuscripts. When the King James Bible was written they only had the later manuscripts, when the other translations got written in the past century they used the older manuscripts that got discovered after the King James was written in 1611 or so. There are altogether 5,300 Greek manuscripts, mostly fragments which are in bits and peices of the scriputres and what they did was to reconstruct accounts by trying to find the oldest ones with as many copies as possible saying the exact same thing. The originals don't exist any more, the manuscripts are all copies and copies of copies, but there are so many of them saying the same things that they are sure they are correct. What you should notice is whether or not the versions of the Bible that include the addtion have it in brackets, if it is in brackets that means that it was found in some manuscripts but not in others, but the translator used the best evidence to determine that it belongs.

Dear Lookinforacity, The Content of the Gospel as a title over the verse and verses that go with it below, inadvertantly got left out when I posted you last where it says; Romans 1:3 etc. as a second set of verses ending with Acts 17:3, as a paragraph under the mandate to preach the gosel. Tamara |

67 | What is the Gospel? | Mark | Tamara Brewington | 204459
Dear Brother Tim, I found something within the concept of what I was referrig Lookinforacity to about what the Gospel consists of. Mathew 4:23 Jesus was going throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness among the people. This concept of what the Gospel is comes from Isaiah 61:1, 2 where Isaiah says the good news is bringing the good news to the afflicted, sending to bind up the broken hearted, proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to prisoners, proclaiming the favorable year of the Lord and this description of what the good news is gets repeated by Jesus as a fulfillment of prophechy in Luke 4:18-19. Jesus says again that the time has come as a fulfillment of prophecy that the kingdom has come and to repent and in believe in the good news, referring to the fulfillment of prophecy that the kingdom has come. Mark 1:15 and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel. I found something interesting in the OT; Isaiah 52:7 How lovely on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news of happiness, who announces salvation, and says to Zion, your God reigns! According to this verse Isaiah is saying that the good news of happiness is the announcement of salvation and saying that God reigns. What is the most interesting part of what Isaiah says though is that the good news is the news of happiness because of the announcement of salvation. This is clearly the Bible saying that salvation is the Gospel message. Now, let's turn to the matter of what the disciples were preaching as the content of the gospel message and how that contrasts with the content of what Jesus preached. We will be able to conclude that both messages were preaching salvation through Jesus Christ, just in different ways. Acts 13:32 Now, Paul says a couple of things here; 1) Jesus was raised up by God to be His Son, meaning Jesus is God (the kingdom is at hand)as a fulfillment of prophecy, 2)God raised Jesus from the dead, part of the new message the apostles began preaching after Jesus rose, 3)unlike David who died Jesus inherited His eternal throne,4)the forgiveness of sins through Jesus continued to be a part of the Gospel message. Acts 2:22-36 Peter's first preaching echoes the elements of Paul's preaching in Acts 13. In verse 23 Peter mentions the predetermined plan and foreknowledgd of God which indicates that God raised Jesus up according to a plan to be curcified. Verse 24 speaks about God raising Jesus from the dead death being impossible to hold Him in its power. Verse 29-35 speaks of David dying and Jesus having conquered death being the heir to the throne next to God in heaven and implies co-rulership of God's kingdom. The elements are the same 4 elements Paul used. Acts 10:34-48 Peter takes elements from Jesus ministry that the sick were healed and the captives freed which was an old element, the crucifixion of Jesus and His raising from the dead which was a new element, and the forgiveness of sins through Jesus which was an old element. Acts 4:2 Peter and John preached the resurrection of Jesus. I Corinthians 1:23 Paul preached Christ crucufied as the salvation message a new element. II Corinthians 4:5 Paul preached Jesus as Lord an old element. Romans 1:26 Paul says that the Gospel is the power of God for salvation an old element. Ephesians 1:16 Paul says that the Gosel is the message of truth of salvation. Ephesians 6:15 Paul says the Gospel is peace meaning peace between God and man. The over all understanding we can take away from all this is that the Bible says specifically that the Gospel is the message of salvation. It was first preached in the OT at various times by various men in several ways (too long to get into here and now). Then it was preached a second way by Jesus as the kingdom of God is at hand meaning Jesus is God with all the attendant signs, the repentance of sins through Jesus, and believing that Jesus is God. Then it was preached a third way through the apostles as mainly although with varying elements; Jesus is the Son of God, Jesus was raised from the dead by God, Jesus did not undergo decay like David but was raised from the dead and rules on His throne eternally, men must repent of their sins through Jesus. I hope I answered the question right, please correct me if I didn't. God bless Tamara |

68 | "their" faith | Mark | Tamara Brewington | 205501
Dear rgarden1, We can't read into the text what is not there, it does not say if it ws just his friends or him too. But I would tend to think that the man did have faith too because how else could Jesus forgive the man's sins unless he believed in Jesus and repented? Hope this helped, God Bless, Tamara |

69 | Spices and the Sabbath | Luke 1:2 | Tamara Brewington | 205112
Dear Jim, We have a clue about why these accounts are different in Luke 1:2,3; just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word, it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consectutive order, most excellent Theophilus. Luke interveiwed the apostles and the disciples to get a consectutive order for his account. Mark however may have had sources as well, as he was not one of the twelve. What we can conclude from this is that the women came with spices. We can also conclude that when people tell stories they tell them from a different point of view from one another and the different sources told their stories from these viewpoints that may not coincide from account to account in the minutia of the details, but agree on the substance. I myself have posted similar questions about the end of the four gospels and am laughing to myself that I missed this nugget about the spice! Bravo! The accounts cannot be reconciled in their particulars but can in their substance and that is how you reconcile an account like this one. The Bible is indeed the innerrant word of God and contains some discrepancies at points, but not at any major points and not doctrinally ever. Exegesis can only take you as far as the constraints of the text will allow, the rest is a true mystery of God. I would not say that such forays are fruitless, or meaningless, all of scripture is profitable and God breathed. Here is for you; II Timothy 2:15 Be ready to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handing the word of truth. By His Grace, Tamara |

72 | What is significant about the Word? | John 1:1 | Tamara Brewington | 203732
Word is Greek it means Logos which means all knowledge, someting said, reasoning, the Divine Expression, cause, utterance and Jesus is called the Word because He is the Divine Expression of all that can be known and all things were made through Him, by Him and for Him. In Bible times everyone knew that it meant the Divine Expression. 73 | Is Jesus the same God as God, or a God? | John 1:1 | Tamara Brewington | 204613
Dear heart, Go to John chapter 1, verse 1-5 and read them with the understanding that the word Word in Greek is Logos. They add the word a, making the verse read the word was a god. This is a referrence to Jesus Christ as being called the Word. This word means a number of things but the most important meaning is the Divine Expression, as in the Divine Expression of God. More important than that note what John is saying in verse 1; In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God. This literaly means that Jesus who is the Word is God. Start with that as the begnining of your argument. Move along to one of their favorite scriptures Colossians 1:15. The words creation and firstborn are two of their favorite words. They take this verse to mean that Jesus was a created being, the angel Michael, who came to earth and became an ordinary man as the first born of those who have risen from the dead. They miss a couple things here. One is that it says Jesus is the image of God, not made in His likeness as we are. The word in Greek doesn't just mean image, it also means, more correctly, representation. Jesus is the representation of God as God's exact image, not as made in God's likeness. That means Jesus has the same spiritual nature as God not one derived from God as made to be like God, Jesus is God. They love the word firstborn because they believe in something called the Sonship of Jesus, that Jesus is physically begotten by the Holy Spirit as a created son of God and that Jesus is first in the order of created beings as an expample of how to be a son of God. They love the word creation becuase to them this usage of the word here means that Jesus was created. They ignore that down in verse 18 that it is saying that Jesus is head as ruler of everything based on verse 16. They further ignore that verse 18 says that Jesus is the first born of the rising of the dead, but it means to be the first to rise from the dead to eternal life, which is what verse 15 is talking about. Take verse 16 which they like to ignore. This verse clearly states that Jesus created everything and that includes the universe, the earth, and all of the spiritual powers and seats of authority. Only God Himself has that power, therefore Jesus is God. They add the word other five times in verses in this passage and the most important place is in verse 16. This makes it say Jesus as a created being created all other created things, rather than that Jesus created all things. The first means Jesus is a creation who created other creations things, the original means Jesus as the sovereign creator created all created things which means He could not possibly be a creature. The Old Testament says the Lord our God is one God. Deuteronomy 6:4 says the Lord our God is one. Exodus 20:3 says you shall have no other god before me. Therefore God doesn't need or approve of their being another God which is what they say Jesus is. Genesis 1:26 has God talking to other parts of His own personality. They try to get around this by saying God was talking to some angels or talking in the third person for royal effect. The word for God in Genesis is Elohim in Hebrew and means gods plural. There twisting of scripture goes on and on. Try this; Go to http:, two slashes, bible.ca, add one slash, Jw-NWT.htm This is a site that will have a chart for you of every twisted scripture they use in their false Bible which serves to remove the deity of Jesus. Whereever it says in your Bible, the Son of Man, this was an expression of the Hebrews from OT times that meant the Messiah. Wherever it says in your Bible, the Son of God, the Jews in Jesus time knew that it meant that the son of God was made of the same nature, character, authority and power as God and therefore was God, which is why they put Jesus to death. Try this; Go to www.blueletterbible.com and type in the search engine those two phrases and read the entire passages where these two phrases come up to see where the Bible is saying Jesus is God. Nathaniel said it; John 1:49 and see Mathew 16:16 and see Hebrews 1:6 - who else is allowed by God to accept worship except God. Make sure you look at that chart, I bet they twist this scripture too. Try www.scriptureanalyzer4alland the free parts of the www.esword.net to see what the Greek words really are that make up the English text and compare that with your Bible and then their Bible and you will see they add and remove words to make their case. Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Jesus is the Son of God as the incarnation of the angel Michael. Nowhere does it say this is the truth in the Bilble. The Jehovah's Witnesses change the Bible at certain key points to make it say what they want it to say and take out key Greek word translations and replace them with whatever they want. Hope this helped. God Bless, Tamara |

74 | water to wine? | John 2:1 | Tamara Brewington | 205508
Dear stoneslinger, Well to start it was His first miracle, right? And we have Mary encouraging Him on there as a sort of catalyst with Jesus saying, woman, what does that have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come. But somehow Mary goes on ahead with a plan and tells the servants to be prepared to do whatever He would ask as if she had not heard Him. This is what they like to term as the beginning of Jesus minsitry and it is characterized by a miracle, which in itself is an interesting fact... Why start with this kind of miracle? Why not start with demon possesion instead? Or raising from the dead? Any of those would have made a bigger public entrance to His ministry. We can difintely say that turning the water into wine was a great sign signifying His deity. Interesting as well is that He called some disciples before performing this first miracle, or sign as John terms it. Although the first actual sign of Jesus diety is in the calling of Nathaneal where Jesus knows Nathaneal's business before being told and Nathaneal repplies, indeed you are the Son of God! So that makes it interesting that the commentators consider the water into wine as the first sign. Head scratcher... One thing that is significant here is that this is the first time for His disciples to really get a taste of the type of work He was going to go about doing. This is His first public miracle and it was on a large scale with plenty of witnesses. The fact that the headwaiter said of the wine that it was better wine; there were huge pots for purification of water, which had to do with mixing water with wine so the wine would not ferment, but this was not watered down water, it was pure wine, proving that it was not of the other batches sitting around. Jesus calls His mother woman distancing Himself from her being His mother in begninning this minstry of His... There is an allussion here to an OT prophecy that the Messianic age would be characterized by the free flowing of wine in, Jeremiah 31:12, Hosea 14:7, and Amos 9:13 so this event could be said to be in keeping with these prophecies... Hope this helped, God's Day To You, Tamara |

75 | study questions for john chapter5 | John 5:1 | Tamara Brewington | 205453
Dear swampgator3, Welcome to the forum! Here are some techniques for you that are tried and true and are used by lay people, pastors, theologians, and are taught in numerous books. 1)Read the passage thoughtfully, read it repeatedly, read it at one sitting, read it over again. 2)Read the passage in another translation, read it out loud to hear it. 3)Read the passage patiently, read the whole thing, go back and read if for its parts for the fourth time. 4)Read the Bible selectively, who, what, where, when, why, what difference does it make. 5)Read the passage the fifth time and pray it through in its parts add libing a prayer as you go. 6)Read the passage a sixth time looking for words that connect the parts, assess the passage as being part of the book it is in and what the whole book is saying (a commentary will help with this), look at the historical setting this took place in. 7)Take the passage you have now read six times and in a notebook make observations starting from the beginning in a numbered list, make them into questions after you do this, go back and start asking questions you don't know the answer to yourself and study the passage to find the answeres and write the questions and answers down. I don't mind walking you through this it is okay, you are having trouble and asked for help. Let's start from the beginning, number ; 4)Who; Jesus, a lame man, the Pharisees, , what; healing a man, claim to deity, where; the Bethseda Pool, when; on the Sabbath, why; to incite the Pharisees by healing a man on the Sabbath and by making Himself equal to God, what difference does it make; Jesus has the power to heal us, Jesus is God and has 4 witnesses. 7)Make observations; a)The crowd followed Jesus because He was doing miracles on the sick. b)A man was there for 38 years who could not get into the water to get healed. c)The Jews were angry because Jesus healed on the Sabbath. c)The man did not know Jesus healed him. e)The Jews were out to kill Jesus because He claimed to be equal to God. f)Jesus spoke of the two resurrections. g)There are 4 witnesses about who Jesus is. Now it is your turn, take these observations I made for you and turn those into questions. Now, go back on your own and come up with questions that you don't know the answers to and try to answer the questions using the information in the passage. Now, go back and make some more observations that are obvious that I did not make, try to come up with ten of them, make these into questions. Excersize for you, what events are pivotal to the story part of this passage which move the story from one part to the next. Excersize for you, what words appear over and over in this passage, these words will show you something about the meaning of the text, make questions from these. Now you have a whole lot of questions about this passage don't you? A professor once had a smelly fish and laid it on a table in the lecture hall. He told his students to stand over the smelly fish and make observations and write them down. He did this for three days straight and his students came up with 600 observations altogether from one smelly fish. I guaruntee you, if you take this same passage and do this excersize over and over and over, you will keep on coming up with more observations and more questions. Bible study is an art, practice your strokes and you will get good at it! Keep asking questions that you have dear. God Bless You. |

76 | what is a sheep in john 10:1-16 | John 10:1 | Tamara Brewington | 205229
Dear Carrina, Welcome to the forum! Jesus was calling believers in Jesus sheep dear heart... The verses you are asking about are all about Jesus being the only way into belief in God in verse 1. And the warning is about a thief and robber who is seeking to steal the believers from God. Verse 2 is about Jesus being able to enter by the will of God to where the believers are and being their leader. Verse 3 is about God who is the door keeper opening the way for Jesus to come and call the believers each by name and lead them out of sin. Verse 4 is about Jesus showing the way out from sin and going ahead of the sheep in order to lead them to God. Verse 5 is about that those who believe not being able to follow a stranger to God because they will not recgonize his voice. Verse 6 is about Jesus talking in parables because the Pharisees who had rejected Jesus would be unable to understand what He said and be saved. Verse 7 is about Jesus saying He is the way to God for those who would believe. Verse 8 is about the ones who came before Jesus came to steal the believers, but the believers did not listen to them. Verse 9 is about Jesus being the only way to God and if any believe in Him they will be saved. Verse 10 is about the thief of the believer coming to kill and destroy the believer, and Jesus coming to give eternal life. Verse 11 is about Jesus being the good leader and dying for His followers. Verse 12 is about those who are leading believers for money not being the owner of the believers who sees Satan coming and leaves the believers and runs and then Satan steals the believers and scatters them away from Jesus. Verse 13 is about the one who was in it for the money running away because he never cared about the believers. Verse 14 is about Jesus being the good leader and that He knows His believers and His believers know Him. Verse 15 is about that just as God knows Jesus and Jesus knows God, Jesus dies for the believers. Verse 16 is about Jesus having other believers besides the Jews and that He must bring them to God as well as the Jews, and they will listen to Jesus and become one body of believers with one leader. Hope this helps, keep asking questions, God Bless, Tamara |

78 | God | John 14:27 | Tamara Brewington | 203711
Psalm 1:3,4, Psalm 90:17, Proverbs 6:2-11, Psalm 102:16-18, Psalm 61:2, Psalm 69:1-3, Proverbs 25:20, Mathew 5:3-9. Try praising the Lord with out loud singing, sounds weird, but try it. Even if you end up crying with tears running down the back of your throat and snot flying, try it. I was mentally ill for a long time and I had to praise the Lord until I was vommitting on an empty stomache to get through it all. They diagnosed me as Bipolar Schizophrenic and I went through hell. I finally gave up and said Lord, I can't function anymore and threw the pills out and dedicated it to Him, three months later I was completely healed forever. Don't try this if you have not heard in your heart to do it, chemical imbalances are hard to beat. But God lives in our praises coming out of our mouths, you will find that it will be hard for the devil to operate while you are being inhabited by the Spirit of God in your praises. But the devil will fight and you will get physically ill, don't give in to your flesh trying to stop your praises, keep going until you get delivered. It may take years of praise, but God can do this, if He did for me, He can for you.
79 | any difference between Jesus and Christ? | John 20:31 | Tamara Brewington | 203705
Your question was unclear, somehow I think that the obvious answer is not quite what you are looking for. Christ is the Greek word for the Jewish word that means Messiah, although the Hebrew word for Messiah is not used in the Old Testament. The concept is there in Isaiah and other prophetic writings which speak of the one who will come and set up his kingdom on earth as the deliverer, which is the Jewish Messiah. There are two prophecies in Isaiah giving this Messiah a name, "Immanuel" meaning,God with us which is what Jesus became, God with us. The name Jesus is Greek for Iesous in Hebrew and is just a common name. Is this what you needed to know? Or were you asking if Jesus was actually the Christ, the Messiah who was promised to come? If that was your question, yes, and here is why, there are 350 prophecies from the Old Testament that came true in the New Testatment concerning the birth place, exact birth year, circumstances of birth, circumstances of life ministry (miracles), circumstances of manner and method of trial and death and resurrection from the dead of Jesus proving that He was the Christ Messiah. So yes in that sense there is a correlation between Jesus and the Christ and there is no difference between them they are one person.
80 | Why can't I speak in tongues yet ? | Acts | Tamara Brewington | 204270
The first group of people the Holy Spirit fell on at Pentecost in Acts 2 on the Jews gathered at Jerusalem who were disciples of Jesus and they were speaking in other languages to other Jews the great deeds of God. In the end of the chapter a great many of these Jew from other countries believed after Peter the apostle preached to them and they were baptized and they also recieved the Holy Spirit. That is the fist group to be included in the church. Then the second group of people the Holy Spirit fell on was in Acts 10:34-48 Peter goes to Cornelius a Gentile and he and all of his household heard the gospel and even before they got baptized in the Holy Spirit fell on them, they spoke in tongues and then they got baptized. The third group of people who got brought in were the Samaritans in Acts 8:4-18 who received the Holy Spirit after believing in the gospel and being baptized. The fourth group of people that got brought in whom the Holy Spirit fell on where those who had the baptism of John and once Paul had them baptized the Holy Spirit fell on them and they spoke in tonuges. So there was a reason people were having the Holy Spirit fall on them in this way and in some instances speaking in tongues. God was brining the four major groups into the church. After these groups; the Jews to whom the promises belonged, the Samaritans who worshipped the right God the wrong way, all the pagans the Gentiles, and those who had received the repentance and baptism of John were brought into the church, you don't find the Holy Spirit falling on people in the Bible making them speak in tongues quite like you do in Acts. In Acts people had tongues of fire fall on them and they spoke in real languages as evidence that the Holy Spirit had included a group. In I Corinthians it says in 12:4-7 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. Speaking in tongues is not the only evidence, nor does it have to be the first evidence that the Holy Spirit is working. What if God did not give you the gift of tongues? What if He gave you a different gift? You can tary till the cows come home, but you can't decide for God which gift He will give to you. Your words may be limited for a reason, you may have been a different gift! Read Romans 12:1-8 and you will see that once you present your body as a living sacrifice it becomes possible through the renewing of your mind to prove what the will of God is... You can know with certainty what your gift realy is over time by doing this. Read on through verses 3-8 about the gifts being exersised. It takes time to discover what your gift is don't rush God and decide what it should be. God Bless, Tamara |
